They were on the Shiprocked cruise last week and played it. The next morning it was Mayday, Mayday as a storm crashed the ship into a dock causing damage. They were delayed 8 hours. They did a 2nd show on the cruise a few days later and they led off with this song. To end the cruise they do an all star jam featuring members of the 30 or so bands on the cruise. The Warning got the honor of doing the shows encore with Michael Starr of Steel Panther.

Nena - you nailed it in your interpretation of the "fake funerals for all my friends" section. This is exactly what they explained - except that it was written by Paulina. This is about a friend who told her that she should just hang out with them because the band was a waste of time and they would never amount to anything. Or something along those lines. And, in typical Pau fashion, she wasn't having any of that and took her "pau-er" back with scathing lyrics. Terrific video, as always! Truly hope you can get to their newest single, S!ck - that deserves an analysis by you!

My granddaughter tells me that “ship” is also short for “relationship”, so I think that Pau’s mastery of poetic figurative language and metaphors is at use here, and she’s saying both a figurative Ship, and an actual relationship that are both sinking, therefore the need to utter “mayday, mayday”. Love your analyses.

The story I remember hearing is. A friend of Pau’s had a birthday party/sleepover. Pau went to the birthday party. But The Warning had a concert so she had to leave and not do the sleepover. Monday when Pau got to school she found out that the birthday girl had bad mouth Pau and said Pau was wasting her time since the band was never going anywhere. Don’t piss Pau off she will write a song about you.
I bet that woman that little girl grew up to be regrets that now since she would have a Rock Star as a friend if she had just kept her mouth shut. But we as fans she think her for causing this great song to be written.

Careful if you harm these ladies, they'll write songs about you (Narcisista, Animosity)... 😉 I'm already curious about an analysis of the new single SICK... you will notice a lot of contradictions from the video to the lyrics (the colour pink, Pau doing Asian girlish moves whilst singing "Give me violence", screaming the word Silence", the smashed fly...). Maybe Sick would be interesting for you. Thanks a lot, greetings from Germany! This is Pau’s song & to the best of my knowledge is “based” on that friend who told her to quit music cuz it wasn’t going anywhere. It’s a recurring theme all the way back to their EP of people telling her/them they won’t make it so why try (or her famous “drums are for boys” story from TEDx).

Songs *"Disciple"* & *"Z"* were later uploaded separately on the full concert video. Anyway, during the first time Dany sang *"Mayday Mayday This ship is going down".* The guy behind the camera said & you can clearly hear it *"I hope not".* 😆 That was hilarious. Spoiler backstory: Written by 15yo Dany as a solo homework assignment when the band attended Berklee School of Music in Boston (2015). In addition to being homesick after being away from home for 5 weeks, she was surrounded by older, English-only speakers during most of her classes, so when she was tasked to write a song during her last week she ended up writing lyrics that described her loneliness and how out of place she felt. She was initialy stumped, but ended up pouring out her soul in an overnight writing session so the song could be presented the next day. Known as "Dany's Song" by the fanbase.

Pau so eloquently details what most of us have felt at some point in our lives which further reinforces the relatability that TW has lyrically to the masses despite their relatively young ages.
Dany has spoken about the responsibility she feels about portraying Pau’s intent while singing this song and as you mentioned, she nails it in typical Dany fashion.

That's interesting it was your least favorite at first. I am a runner and I stumbled across The Warning after the Mayday EP was released. Every day I would listen to it when running on this particular trail and when the "mayday, mayday" part came on, it was always when the trail opened up to this big meadow, and the song seemed even more majestic. :) As for "ship", I had never considered this was a slang for relationship until reading these comments, but it makes the mayday lines even more clever (although changes the tone of the bridge.) The song is a work of art!

This is also my favourite - and as an early-for-me "random" song I stumbled upon, it convinced me these girls could do no wrong. It's musically very well-written, specially Dany's guitar parts and the shifting dynamics. But what really stands out is the lyrics with their raw, honest, and ugly vulnerability.

somehow, i think we're on the same channel re: Animosity 😹 here's the comment i normal post for it...
Dany (guitar) works hard to get the emotion correct that Pau (drums) was experiencing when she wrote this song... *Animosity* was spawned from a childhood friendship breaking up...
basically the story is that someone said something like, "come hang out with us. that band thing won't go anywhere. why are you wasting your time?" well, you can imagine how that went over... TWA like to joke that the moral of the story is "Don't upset Pau or you may be memorialized in a song" 😹
*Fade Away* from the _"Escape the Mind"_ EP is similar to *Animosity* in that both talk about moving on after others have attempted to sully your drive and determination... i can easily see both of them being initially developed around the same time frame...
_some lyrics from _*_Fade Away_*_ :_
They told me I couldn't do it
That I would stumble and fall
I would get cuts and bruises
That I just should give up
    [...]
    And I'll walk, walk
    Walk until the very top
    And I'll run, run
Even though I stumble and fall
    And I'll jump, jump
Jump until I reach the sun
    And I'll shine, shine
Shine until my light fades away
    TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

I truly enjoyed this analysis. Animosity is certainly one of my favorites, but I don't think that I could ever have the favorite. Their lyrics are so powerful that at any one time a particular song could become a favorite depending how I feel emotionally, mentally, and physically, I will put that song on repeat. I will listen to your playlist this evening. Is it in any particular order for you?

I read in the other comments that Pau has written this song. I'd have been pretty wrong here because I'd have guessed it was Dany as the lyrics seem pretty Fe-like to me.
Picking a favorite song is really hard as they're all so amazing but I'd say Animosity is amongst my top ones too, especially as it was the one that got me hooked on The Warning.

Nice interpretation, but as usual TW lyrics can have other interpretations! I’m fairly sure that it was her disdain for her “friends” who slagged her off because they said that the band was a waste of time and would never go anywhere, basically because they wanted her to hang with them and she wanted to practice! Initially your interpretation was more or less the same as mine, great minds eh 😂

If you watch the video from their "Live Sessions", done in a recording studio in Monterrey, you will see Pau's demeanor is very different from any other performances, very much closed off and angry.
