20-MILE HIKE IN MUD + BAILED Wild Camp 2.0 | Coast to Coast Training

- The Big Blean Walk is a 29-mile circular walk in Kent. It passes through beautiful woodland and fields. Ordinarily, it would be quite straightforward but mud and flooding continues to be an issue in this part of England. Many thanks to friend and subscriber Mike who joined me for this one. It was a good 20-mile training session for our long-distance hiking projects this year. Mike is getting ready for tackling the West Highland Way and I've now officially started my training for Wainright's Coast to Coast. Despite the bail, all walking and hiking is good training so definitely not a fail! Many thanks for watching.

Then Imagine doing a thru hike like me doing 6 days of Rob Roy Way in the middle of Scotland with crazy weather!
You just need to find something no matter what! One night was at abbandoned camper van and somebodys field, was 50mph wind and proper rain. Saved my ass that night even tho it was a bit creepy and covered in sheep poo etc lol. Wet feet everyday.
Saturated here in south Wales, as well. The area around my tent the other night was like a mudbath!
Another tough ol’ slog, Ben.
At least you know where to go for meat if you fancy a BBQ 😁👍🏼
Shame you had to Jack in again. No big deal, it’ll be there again for both.
My parents took me to Kent on holiday when i was a young one...very nice part of the world
Good effort getting that mileage in anyway chaps!
Thinking back - we never even got a proper Summer last year as I remember.. as all it did was rain even back then, we basically had 3 two week blocks of fine weather with no rain and that was it!
And it’s now not (for very long) stopped raining since back in October 2023…
I live in the Midlands (just 70 mins drive from the Peak District) and the ground is totally sodden over here too! I can’t imagine it being any different anywhere in the UK right now.
Let’s just hope we get a long, largely dry summer this year!?..🤷🏻♂️
Sodden Britain! Thanks for watching. 👍👍
Well done Ben, shame you had to abandon your trip👍👍
Thanks Ian
Nice work Ben well done for getting the miles in. Get ya self over to Norfolk coastal footpath - sand dunes are nice and dry
Noted! I do fancy a bit of that coastal path. Thanks for watching 👍
I've not been out on the moor for a while now, everything is saturated in the south west too. Good mileage achieved though so not all bad.
Praying for dry weather!
Well done for hiking 20 miles through the mud! Hope the ground begins to dry out soon and you're able to camp again.
Many thanks! 🥾👍🥾
Same in the Northeast. I come back from a walk covered to the knee in mud. 🤣
Grim..
Well done guys for giving it a go and sticking to your training. Fingers crossed it dries up over the next couple of months🤞
Thanks Kimberly!
England is a wet place
Agreed.
Im going Scotland thursday to walk the Great Glenn Way hoping the trail isnt this bad lol good videos tho mate unlucky about the muddy trail hopefully the next one is better for you🤞
Thanks for watching. ATB with the GGW! 🥾🥾
Good luck mate
I imagine it’s the same everywhere. We’ve had rain upon rain.
That was definitely a tough 20 miles. Well done mate. 👍👏👌
It's certainly just as bad up here in the North West Midlands Ben. Walking for any distance off road in general is just unpleasant. As for wild camping, I think hammocking in a pine forest where the ground doesn't retain water is my only chance for a good while yet!
Luck has got to change soon mate. Hang in there. And good luck with the C2C training 👍
I found those seal skinz to be awful, really uncomfortable, like wearing a carrier bag under your socks...I wore them for a day and then sent them back, the shape of them too wasn't nice.
Just think how much fun you'll have when you get back to soggy-less camping Ben.
Plus, this is a training exercise...so, it's character building 😉👌
Fair play to ya. I honestly don't even bother from December to March.
Makes sense.
I wouldn't feel bad ben, I went for a short circular day walk about a month ago aftter we had loads of rain, it was super boggy, mud and clay. i ended up breaking 2 bones in my leg just trying to get around a deep muddle puddle!
North yorkshire is very much the same pal called off a camp last weekend due to ground conditions hoping to get out over easter now instead
I get quite a lot of use out of my hammock. It opens up more options as boggy ground and slopes aren't issues.
Like that here in Norfolk mate, some of the footage from the peaks looks the same too. Hope you get some luck.
That was a great watch Ben, and well done for putting that mileage in mate.👍
I think you did well to do as far as you did . The conditions looked pretty wet which is definitely not what you want on a long hike.👍
Gum boots next time
Well done for giving it a go 😢
You guys nearly hiked a full marathon -- through mud and water. Great job.
Fantastic work man, masterfully edited!!!
All the sides Mike 😂 9:02
Absolutely nothing wrong with that Ben, well done for both of you for getting a 20 mile hike in through some pretty challenging conditions 👌. Showed great mental and physical resilience, and sets you both up well for your upcoming long distance trails👣. As for the failed wild Camp, think you tried just about everything to make it happen, sometimes these things just aren't meant to be. Fingers crossed the weather improves soon and the paths dry up. Thanks for taking us along for the muddy ride!
Have a great week,
Shell and Pete 😊👊👍
East Anglia has been the same. Only just started to dry in some areas. Managed my first camp last weekend. You did good mileage. Not a total fail.😀
I love using my hammock in those kind of conditions!
Ooh premiere
🍿
Cornwall is the same Ben , my wild camping spots are all flooded, I’ve tried going out but could not find anywhere to set up , the SWCP is the same , great video as always bud
Thanks Fog. Sorry to hear it’s not just the south east then!
@@benhikescamps definitely not bud !
Looks like a tough hike. Cheers for the video though, always enjoy watching.😊
Thanks Graham 👍
Its been terrible this winter. Camping locally is still fine though. I was at the campsite last night (the one you camped with me) muddy walk in but nice, dry and firm at camp.
Glad to hear some places still inhabitable! It’s driving me up the wall. Longing for drier weather.
Don't be sorry - that's not fun- far too much mud and wet ground - me I would have bailed out at the first puddle
Thanks Louise!
Winter has been horrible where I am for the rain, trails are still boggy as hell BUT the last two weeks the rain has eased a little hoping for better trail conditions from now on
fingers crossed!
Watching this from the west highland way day 2. It’s boggy here too. Well done though. 20’miles is a long way
Cracking video editing Ben! It was a real tough day
Thanks for that. Yep, not an easy 20-miler.
