There is one in my Waterdeep campaign who is starting to get mixed up with the main adventure story. So much wacky personality. It's a lot of fun, especially since there is also a white dragon involved, and there is about to be a showdown.

@@NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself the white will lose. ....least I hope so. Steel vs White? My money is one the Steel. And agreed! Steel dragons are absolutely fascinating!

Edit: Skarmory has much in common with the Andean Condor and also shares characteristics of pteranodons, and cranes, birds which are held in high esteem in Japan. It is also similar to many mythological, metallic birds such as the Stymphalian Birds, the Gagana, and the Alicanto. Skarmory is also believed to be based on an armored knight. - Quote from Bulbapedia

Cobalt and kobold is not a false etymology, it's pretty much the same word. From Wikipedia: "Miners had long used the name kobold ore (German for goblin ore) for some of the blue-pigment producing minerals; they were so named because they were poor in known metals, and gave poisonous arsenic-containing fumes when smelted. In 1735, such ores were found to be reducible to a new metal (the first discovered since ancient times), and this was ultimately named for the kobold."

Are you implying that Bahamut should give up his power to five handpicked dragons from each of the major metallics, forming them into a super dragon that will spark a final war between the metallic and chromatic dragons that will culminate in a battle between this new draconic God and Tiamat in an epic level 1-20 campaign? Mithril Dragons from 4e seem much more powerful than the 5e version.
They exist in the Tome of Beasts by Kobold Press. But the Ancient Mithril is only a CR 18 creature, so it's weaker than even a Black Dragon. And they attempted to end the Dragon War at one point. They are nowhere near as powerful as you make them out to be, but still are very cool.
Hope you check out the Tome of Beasts for some of your esoteric Dragons episode. Void, Cave, Sea, and Flame Dragons are all super cool.
