    I love it when European guys scream that muscle cars can't go around corners. News flash it's a street car where most of its races will be done in a straight line. And it corners on a track. And as for weight when it's a race car it's stripped and prepped to do corners. it will literally destroy and demoralize an m3.

    • @pizza5647
      @pizza5647 10 років тому

      lol with nearly half the power, an M3 would wreck this on the track.

      Harrison Freon a track spec m3 vs. A track spec hellcat ? There is no comparison. More horsepower out of the corner.

      When you learn how to drive it you can steer it with the back wheels by pressing on the "go" pedal.....

      Harrison Freon M3 would rip this POS apart on the track..And in the street.You strip it and prep it up for corners, and will prep a m3 for straight line...Good bye hellkitten! In every way! Love it when american guys talk all this and they know they can NEVER afford a Audi,Mercedes or Bmw. Soooo funny!

      Jay Man Love it when some Euro-trash d-bag comes on here and talks like an idiot showing their underwhelming stupidity while trying to insult people in the country of every type of existing culture. Sooo funny! The M3 costs about the same as what the Hellcat is priced at around $60K. It's not at all a matter of affordability but returned value. BMW's tend to be problematic high-maintenance cars and aren't any more reliable than non-luxury brands, and most Americans realize they don't need to pay an extra $5k (about 4kEUR) to have overpriced unseen, unfelt exotic materials with no function tucked in corners. And your M3, though 3,600lbs vs 4,400lbs, is not exactly a lightweight and is slower than the Challenger to begin with. What's with BMW pathetic 4yr/50K mile warranty anyhow? They obviously don't want to lose money fixing their beamers issues while new-millennium (most auto-makers were pumping out garbage in the 1980's & 90's- most people have selective short-term memory, so I'm reminding them) Dodge can confidently provide a 5yr/100K mile warranty.

    Pretty funny to read yet another long set of comments from mostly jealous and uneducated car fans. So here's a heads-up and there can be no argument: The Hellcat Charger and Challenger are FULL SIZE cars with room for 4-5 adults and big trunks with comfortable interiors. This makes them suitable for family use and travel more than ANY other car in their class. I'm 6'3 and can't even be comfortable in a BMW like a M3. GT500 and Mercedes AMG...equally uncomfortable. Big cars don't handle as good as small ones. Small ones don't ride as well as large ones. The Hellcats provide insane performance for their SIZE. On a highway you can have a ton of fun and handling is not a factor. On a twisty road a Miata is more fun to drive than the Hellcat OR a BMW. Pick your poison. If you want ROOM and a practical car that can fly, these Hellcats are the only game in town short of an M5, which is a pretty uninvolving car to drive and look at, more expensive (NOT as comfortable) and slower than the Hellcat! Wake up, people, and learn that cars like this will be a perfect fit for some, while an M4, GT500 or GT-R is better for others.

      ". . . a practical car . . .?" Paying a big premium for a powertrain that's unusable on public roads, and the attendant costs of a daily life with a mega-hp engine (gas, insurance, tires, gas, drivetrain wear, brakes, gas) - all add up to a steep price to pay for bragging rights and not a practical car in the conventional sense of the word.
      This video was a total puff piece by C&D. They have lost their last vestige of credibility in my book, and I've been a reader for 30+ years.

      What is your definition of an "Unusable" powertrain? 707hp is definitely usable, and the gas mileage is still in the 20s. All in all, it's a badass car.

    707 horsepower in a 4400+ lb car. Well, I'd imagine it feels just about the same as 662hp in a 3850lb car. We saw that 2 years ago.

    What's funny is, you hear all these kids saying shit like, "the car is too heavy, it can't turn a corner, it can't hook up, or my Corvette would destroy this thing." Well guess what. This car was not made to do any of those things. It's not a race car. It's big, heavy, has plenty of hp and torque, and loves to light the tires up at any given moment. Last time I checked, that's exactly what a muscle car is. So you can take your fucking Corvette that costs twice as much, and shove it up your ass. I'll be in a Hellcat having twice as much fun, because THAT is what this car was made for.

      So we don't need a vibrant auto industry in the US? You wouldn't say that if your job depended on GM or Chrysler (or if you were a parts supplier). Can you imagine another 1-2 million unemployed auto workers circa 2008? Think about it.

    If you read Car and Driver's September 2014 issue, you'll see that they estimated that the Hellcat does the quarter-mile in 11.1-11.4 seconds, and comes with a six-speed manual STANDARD. 0-60 in about 3.4-3.8 seconds, also. Those numbers are just estimates, but they seem pretty damn realistic to me. I believe they made this car just to tear up the drag strip, though. Still a very badass car.

    • @HPRam1
      @HPRam1 10 років тому +3

      ah yes, because muscle cars can't corner, how original. Well, you might be surprised to learn this but since the 90's American Manufacturers have actually figured out how to produce sports cars that corner exceptionally well. Specially Dodge, look at the fastest laps around Laguna Seca, top 5 are American Sports cars, 3 of which are held by the Dodge Viper (1st, 3rd, and 4th respectively) and the fastest American Sports Car around the Nurburgring is the Dodge Viper which is the 6th fastest vehicle followed by the Corvette back in 12th. So I'd say if anyone has a chance at figuring out how to take a corner properly, the good folks at SRT have you covered. Cheers.

      Ahhh and there you go presuming my comments implies a flaw that subconciously nags you in the back of your mind. I asked a simple question. You don't know if I'm interested in buying this car or not. I'm not obliviouls to what current US car makers are producing these days Camaro ZL1, Camaro 1LE are some of the best handling muscle cars coming from the motorcity in the US. Also the 2015 Mustang now comes with IRS, hell the 2014 Camaro Z28 just spanked the GT-R in MotorTrend's comparison a few months ago. So please don't be daft and assume the implications of my comments. All I wanted to know is what are the other perfomance metrics of this car for comparison shopping. Cheers.

      I gotta agree with him. If you look at the spec sheet, size, interior space and comfort, performance, and personality of the car the Challenger has more in common with an M6 than it does with a GT500. It's just styling and exhaust sound that make it a muscle car.

    at 3:05 the engineers talk about how easy it will be to tune these cars, but currently very few shops out there have been able to crack the code on the '11-'14 VVT hemi. most have to go with a plug-in Trinity tuner, which limits your mapping options. sure hope Chrysler made the Hellcat more tuner friendly. if not, expect the aftermarket to once again lag on performance goodies for this motor.

      Yeah though the companies keep separated teams to increase the intern competition and innovation, so the muscle car team is always pushing the sports car team further like Camaro x Vette, when the z28 was launched the intern pressure was on the Vette team because the sports car team have to make a better car since the sports car will always be more expensive and be attached with a higher market, the spirit car can't lose consumers to the muscle car. Idk if I made it clear enough, but basically that's what happen.

      What im saying is they say itll put down 10.8 1/4 mile on a drag strip with drag radials but thats sticky tires on a sticky track so it works. However SRT engineers never thought to put wider tires on the hellcat only 9.5in for 707hp so 19 total inches to put to the ground compared to say a GT500 662 hp 11in tires so 22in total to the ground SVT put more thought into it than SRT

      Well they guys admit to not planning to put a full 700hp in it until the project was half done. Either way, I like the styling of the Challenger, and even though it is only a small candle of a light, it is still nice to have a minor claim to coolness in the car world.

    • @OmarsTechWorld

    @3:18"the-the big difference though is we have to pass all the durability requirements, obviously, and the difference between a tuner car and a fully developed, fully durable OEM car is huge..." indeed, but i do often wonder what parts are engineered not to be fully durable for a given vehicle or type of vehicle, per manufacturer. also replacing most parts, like, say, bearings, etc. on modern chryslers requires a lot of packages that only INCLUDE parts like bearings WITH various other otherwise fully functional parts. needing bread n butter repairs means a crap definition of "fully durable". they just don't make em like they used to. my gripe with chrysler in the last how many years... i've had too much bad with their electrical/computer stuff. you can keep an old muscle car goin forever, but is that gonna work out with these latest things?

    as far as it being 4400lbs well ,with all of the added creature comforts i can see that happening ,but its not that big of a deal, so for all of the haters ,i refer you to the new bmw m5 over 560hp but weighs in at over 4300lbs, the same with the mercedes amg63 or 65 sedans, their weight is over 4500lbs yet, both of those sedan are uber quick and are considered to top class in accelleration and handling, so its extremely possible to weight alot and handle, and of course the ultimate example ,the buggati veyrons weight is over 5300lbs and as you all know it can handle and is super fast ,so 4400lbs when compared to everything else isnt that big of a deal by 2014 standards

    I just built a 2014 hemi challenger with everything it's 53,000 so the Hell Cat will be at least 65,000 plus and around 75,000 with all options. For a car that will only go in a straight line.

    I have a 1969 Riviera, which is a huge car, but when a challenger rolls up to me at a red light, it seems its twice my size 😂. It's too bad dodge couldnt try to cut down on the length or width of the hellcat. All 4500+ pounds of it gives that 707 horsepower a real holdback.

    By the way, I think that Fiat/ chrysler did a great job the charger and challengers.
    Ford did a great job on the mustang variants. Although I'm a chevy guy,(with a Shelby) I think chevy failed in the re-issue of the Z/28. Doesn't make me want one like in 1969. No similar look. Ok a red "Z". and a black "28" maybe. A nice car, but didn't grab me and suck me into one.

    I'm tired of people being like "it doesn't corner". I will agree its not a Porsche 991 or a z/28. Its got other intentions. I'm sorry i didn't know that when i bought a muscle car with a shit ton of power i should expect it to compete with a 991 or gtr on a track. No, its a muscle car, not a track car or a sports car.

  • @BobDingle25
    @BobDingle25 10 років тому

    Still trying to figure out why they say this is "the fastest muscle car ever". It's claimed top speed isn't faster than the GT500. I have doubts it can go around a track faster than a Z28 (which is quicker than a GTR). I'm also just having trouble seeing it completely demolish at the drag strip, if the standard Hemi challenger is any indication, it won't be able to throw it's weight around, especially with those horrible aerodynamics. Also, real muscle cars come with a manual.

    I think the trans would be annoying. I'm not sure if it was just his driving style, but it seemed like when he was cruising around, it couldn't find a gear and stay in it. Constantly shifting and hearing the engine constantly varying RPM would get on my nerves.

  • @CrzyMav

    Now I love the car and respect the fact that it has 707 HP. The only question I have is how is it the best muscle car. The shelby has over 745 HP including a 1000 Hp Super Snake. Is it that it has 707 from factory? And Mustang has due to after market Shelby parts and not Ford SVT. Anyways I love the ar and as Ford fan I would definitely buy one. For 59,990 it's an awesome price. Great job Mopar!!!

      install the same modifications on a Hellcat (Shelby 1000 is not factory) and then see what happens.

    • @derekbutler1121
      @derekbutler1121 10 років тому +1

      I guess i'm just confused with the definition of "factory built" because SRT is a division outside of Dodge that takes their cars and turns them into performers. Shelby is the same way. They took the GT500 and made it into a 1000hp monster just like SRT took the Challenger and turned it into a 707hp monster. I guess I just fail to see the difference there. I'm not trying to be a troll or be arrogant, that's just how I'm seeing this.

    • @Han-Yolo
      @Han-Yolo 10 років тому +7

      Derek Butler No the SRT brand is still part of Fiat Chrysler. It's like how BMW has its M performance division or Mercedes has AMG; and even Ford's SVT. While Shelby does work with Ford on an OEM vehicle (GT500) they are not part of Ford. Many people complain saying this isn't the most powerful muscle car because of the Super Snake, but that's an aftermarket performance package from Shelby American Inc.

    Any product ever made was created to achieve certain goals, thats the case with cars too. There is no point commenting on a car thats built to be ridiculously fast and say stuff like "yeah right but it has very high fuel consumption", or "its to heavy". IT WAS NOT BUILT TO BE AN ECONOMY CAR. if you want economy you cant have speed. End of story, go buy a toyota yaris. And yes heavy is better when you want better grip, a car like the hellcat is NOT made for people who want 1-2 seconds faster cars that they never gonna feel anyway. And being a European/Greek i can say that i would prefer an american muscle car anytime of any day instead of a german or jappanese perfomance vehicle. That said after owning 3 big bmw's and having driven one muscle car

    Funny how they never talk about it with the black key which gives it 500 hp..Chevrolet corvette stingray can't compare to this in engine performance, they made the hemi legendary and alive again. I doubt some of its numbers for as top end the aerodynamics is not in favor nor is braking, and cornering. Take it to Numbering track and see what it does..2015 Z06 will destroy this car.. Overall great muscle car love to have one...
