- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Ever since Dodge decided to put a 707hp Supercharged Hellcat in their Challenger, it's been the talk of both the horsepower wars and muscle car fans. So the guys grabbed one and put it with the other king of its lineup, the Camaro Z28. Having not reviewed either car in years, we set out to see how far they've come.

i just love the retro look of the challenger
only not 62000 $.too pricey no
armourdaddy805 62k is not pricey at all for a 707HP car. 5th powerfull car in prodction the next car near in hp cost 300k. this car is very very affordable.
Xenios9
if so then it messes up the head
armourdaddy805 what?
Xenios9
so much power , so much car and just two door
"Driving barely harnessed destruction"
That's really all I needed to hear. Thank god these guys got this car, and with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION!!!
This channel, and these hosts, just make me smile.
Dan Hall - Thanks Dan! We know you've been watching our work for a while, and we've very glad to have you in the audience and enjoying what we do!
Indeed
OMG, a 6th gear start! I thought Clarkson doing a 5th gear start in the Z06 was incredible. Great work guys!
Gavin Pouquette better do it in 6 gear zo6 has 505 or hp vs 707 or so ...
I love how so many European cars with this much power have small V10's or V12's, sometimes with a small turbo, and then Chrysler in America was like "nope, screw you, we'll beat you with a big, obnoxious supercharged V8 for 33-50% of the cost"
agreed
Dodge dude Doge not Chysler lol.
+Kin Taro Chrysler owns dodge, dude
First: This is THE muscle car.
Second: stop complaining 'bout the so called "unability to corner" and the high weight. This is a muscle car, and that means a big and powerful as hell V8 that can throw it through the 1/4 in the quickesr way possible. The rest are things of secondary importance. If you buy a muscle car you don't buy it for twisty mountain roads. You buy it for crusung and for having great straightline performance. If you want to corner buy a Camaro, which is a great handling pony car. Oh, and MOPAR FTW!!!!
The integrated headlight air intakes are really cool, Good Guy Dodge.
Just checking in to remind you guys that you're still the best automotive channel on UA-cam. Thanks for being awesome!
That's a big compliment. Thank you!
Not sure. That one dude is kind of a tool and needs a haircut.
you're kind of a tool who needs a haircut.
That reminds me I need a haircut too 🙄
Thank God for SRT period!
Hellzz yeah!
I love my Challenger SRT HELLCAT
Good, so does the dealership 👍
Some cars you buy and know that you'll never sell or trade, well, this is one of those. 6 speed, gotta love it.
''there's no good reason to get it; you just want it'' yep, so true
I can't ever get tired of all the positive stuff that is said about this awesome American Muscle. I'm a huge and have been a Ford Mustang fanatic, but I have to say this MOPAR is bad ass!! Unfortunately If Ford made a Mustang with this much horsepower than what would be the purpose of owning a Shelby...just the name brand cause I know SVT is more than capable of making more then 700+ horsepower. But I truly tip my hat off for Dodge. Great work guys! This is an amazing piece of American muscle.
The first minute is why I like these guys. More knowing about a car than popular social hype..
Love the Challenger from the SXT up to the Demon and Red-eye. My favorite is the Scat Pack (which I own), it's like the Goldilocks of the Challenger, right in the middle of the line up.
Probably the last of the great American V8s.....this car will be still remembered 50 years from now especially if all cars are electric or hybrid in next 5-10yrs.
You know, people were talking about their cars being the "last of the great American V8s" 50 years ago.
A muscle car for the 21st century. No more, but no less. I love it. Great review also.
Amazing review and simply stunning shots guys. No other reviewers can create footage half as beautiful as what you've done here.
This is definitely not an apples to apples comparo. Obviously the z28 is a pure track car with oil coolers on just about everything to perform amazingly repeatedly. The hellcat is more a GT car with actual room for 4 and the kind of power that makes u giggle like a school girl on the rare occasions u call all the ponies out. Both amazing cars. Id personally take the hellcat though.
I love that you guys used the manual transmission that's the way that sports cars should be driven.
The most amazing thing I got from this video was Todd was able to get the car going from a standstill in 6th gear! He mentioned that you can go from 0-200 mph in just one gear. Crazy amounts of torque there.
askquestionslater916 i just learned something new!! haha i had an OHH moment
+1400VID and... I could get an old SN95 moving from a standstill in 5th
Heard about this video when you guys did your podcast with The Smoking Tire! Can't wait for part 2.
Great review guys. I've watched it a couple times now and learn something new every time. Just bought a '15 SRT 392 and just love it. It is a great daily driver in that the default mode is a very comfortable ride - but wake it up in the track mode and put your foot into it and it's a beast. When you get in you have to mentally dial in the - self control mode!
Great video guys. That 6th gear start was incredible. I've only recently started watching your videos but I spent the last month watching them all, except Mid-Engines and Mountains, but I'm going to watch that too. I've been listening to the podcast too and you'll be happy to hear you convinced me to disable my adblock on UA-cam. I'm still getting to grips with the whole paid thing on UA-cam, I subscribe to Drive+ and I gladly paid for your 911 film, maybe in the future I'll give Patreon a try too
LamboGallardo560 - We're very glad you found us! Thanks for enjoying our work so much and going back to watch through our reviews. And joining us on our podcast is also much appreciated. Please pass on our work to others, your sharing and no-adblock is simply huge for us. All your other support, buying/renting our bigger films etc, is not taken lightly... we work hard with every bit of support. A big THANKS to you!
Motor Trend did this yesterday, but I am all about reviews of great cars, so bring on part 2!
Thank you for your review, most thorough and expanded review I've seen on the Hellcat.
Z/28 all the way. 707 HP is the only trick of the hellcat.
The Z/28 is all brakes and tires, neither of which are made by GM.
***** I meant that in reference to the "party trick" comment. A majority of the Z/28's dynamic/character/praise are based around it's braking and gripping abilities which say more about Pirelli and Brembo than GMs engineering. You can easily forget how great the entire drivetrain and aero-modifications are to that vehicle because those brakes and tires are absolutely mindblowing products from two of the best brands in their respective fields.
Would much rather a Hellcat for actually driving on the street and not just bragging on the web
Stackin Benjis as in the corvette z06? I'm seriously doubtful of that happening unless one of the drivers was either horrible or purposely let the hellcat get ahead. 80HP does not make up for 1000LB
What's the top speed of the Z/28? Hellcat 199 enough said!
cant believe yall compared a z28 to a hellcat. completely different in every way
You guys are the best in biz. You can describe the driving experience in a way that is technical but fun and not technical at the same time. Looking forward to part 2.
Btw love the big bit athletic girl analogy :).
Adam Thor - Huge compliments. Thank you very much!
Woah the Quality has gone up since the last time I visited the channel ! Keep it up Guys...
I'm more interested in that 8 speed ZF.
I enjoy the descriptive language you guys use. Keep up the great work!
Paul, & Todd. Again A+++++! Fantastic review and fun. Looking forward to the Z/28
Great day. Hellcat review from your guys and Hooniverse today!!! Looks like you both had the same Hellcat too.
Z28 for the hardcore track day hero, Hellcat for the everyday driver.
that supercharger wine!😍😍
Great review. Thanks for the kind words for us Canadians. Keep up the great work.
Yes! I've been waiting for you guys to review it.
Great Vid as always guys, can't wait for part 2.
Turn off your Ad-Blocker and give these guys your views! They deserve to be bigger.
LOL, I always laugh when I hear "Zee". I'm used to "Zed"
small guys will never understand how better Challenger is , comparing it to Z28, Mustang, whatever... no matter how fast they are. Both Mustang, Z28 are really great car, they are fast, turn in corners well. But Challenger is sooooo much different, just amazing!
Highway Cruiser Don't have to be small to understand it.... The car is a straight rip off.. End of story
Texarmageddon there is nothing to argue with you
Highway Cruiser
Look I get you .. Don't want to argue about it and you think Im just hating and that's really not the case.
Im just honestly upset how the car blatantly ignores the rules of Demand and supply. It sits on a chassis that's shared between three cars. It shares engines from numerous vehicles. It's not implementing some special metal to bring weight down. Nor is it implementing world class suspension such as Magnetic ride control.
Extra Space doesn't justify the extra change their asking of you. Still a gorgeous car, but there is a reason why the car is dead last in sales.
Texarmageddon you are so damn right! This thing sucks all day long compared to anything with "Magnetic ride control" or "special metal" / This is sooo coooooooool that people don't pay attention to this shit of HEMI and don't buy them because of everything above and " the extra change". I'm happy that everyone else who don't share those beliefs can buy this crappy shit of hell and admire it as long as it can survive in their hands. I'm so proud you allocated some time of you to share your opinion with me and everyone else. that's great, usually nobody pays attention to me in internet. Cheers!!
Highway Cruiser Love the sarcasm.
all the small stuf like the rubber dashboard or the plastic pieces DOES NOT MATTER you wont even notice it or it wont bother you at al.. the fun of this car completely overshadows it.
Thanks for this video. I just bought a hellcat with auto trans today! It's a quite comfortable muscle car compare to my gt3rs.
Automatics can't be beat!
Paddle shifting on top of that, my....
Great video. Next week I am for sure trading my 2016 Superbee Scat Pack for a 2016 Hellcat 6 speed with only 2100 miles
yes! thank you guys for this series!
So glad they got a stick one vs all the other reviewers testing the 8spd auto.
A lot of people say it’s not a track car or will not turn but the show grand tour put a 2015 hellcat challenger against a Aston Martin DB11 on an Italian track and was only slower around the track by less than half a second.
I truly suspect it lost only because the DB11 is a British car on a British show that almost always favors British cars.
Nice review guys ! Always good to eat your opinion. I'm having these thoughts - only speculating- if Fiat could make some kind of Pantera revival. Hellcat engine in rear engine-rear drive car Ferrari suspension and electronic-handling and Fiat badge and price. Ford is doing GT 40 all over again so could Fiat-Chrysler. Fiat really needs good promotion in USA if they intend to stay on that market.
Nice job! I hope you guy's get a chance to review the 2016 Bandit Trans-Am. .. 77 being made and all signed by the Bandit himself - Burt Reynolds.
Great video guys! Havent seen very many people focus on the handling/driving aspects of the car. Good to know that if you need to, it will take the twisties albeit reluctantly. Question: You didn't touch on the ride or braking quality. Is the ride more muscle car traditional or Euro-firm? Keep up the great work!
Agreed, that info would have been cool to know as well! great review, you can see the speed of that machine in some of the shots, nice!
xTouragx - We knew the burnout and sheer power part of the Hellcat have been well covered, but, as stated, there's more the driving than that! We're very pleased you enjoy our approach. To your questions - The ride is adjustable in the Hellcat, so you can vary the feel for cruising or for track work, with variation between. And the brakes are pretty great... just not as great as the Carbon Ceramic monsters on the Z28. Thanks for being a regular viewer!
EverydayDriver You guys have shifted your focus a bit in the more recent reviews to cover positive aspects of the cars that aren't always spoken about in other reviews while cutting out a bit of the negative which makes for a more fun watch. Its a more Chris harris style review, more humble, technical, and really show appreciation for the machine, no matter what kind of car it is, where its from, and that you guys, albeit experienced reviewers who have been in many fast cars, are not better then whatever it is you are driving, keep up the super reviews! Great camera work and editing too ))
You talk about feeling a disconnect from the steering but you didn't mention at all that you can change the feel that you get from the steering wheel from heavier to lighter and vise versa in the performance pages.
1:35 THATS RIGHT CANADA BUILT THIS!!!!!
Well get back to work!
1:58 look at the eye of the angry beast.
Watching this is making me want to take mine for a drive! :)
“A wood chipper for nature...sucking deer and moose into its maw” lol you guys are my favorite
The modern Vanishing Point car,........it is just perfect.
it doesn't matter what gear your in (4:55)AWESOME!!!
i know hahaha
great review. Can't wait to get mine!
This car creates the best exhaust note of any domestic since the 70's.
It looks so badass. Big engine and muscular. And you can drive it daily too. Amazing.
Well done Gentleman.
No doubt, still my 1st dream car next to Mustang
Wooooo. Have you guys noticed any increase in UA-cam views since starting the podcast? Love the podcast and your reviews
Is their podcast on a different channel? I've never seen one and would like to see them.
It's on iTunes
HandsomeAlex25 - Our Podcast is audio only, and releases new episodes every Tuesday. Search for "Everyday Driver Car Debate" wherever you get Podcasts. We'd love to have you listening!
taylor wagneers - Our Podcast audience hasn't grown larger than our video audience yet, (but it will) so it's hard to say for certain. But, we have noticed an increase in sharing and interaction. We're very glad to have you with us on both and pleased you like what we do!
It's just a matter of time and consistency with podcast. Podcasts are so gigantic right now, I'm sure it will grow a lot especially if you can keep networking with other podcasts like you have with TST. I really like that you have your own strong opinions instead of parroting the manufacturer spec sheet like most other journalists.
I wish you guys could do a review of the RT for the real "everyday driver" for the average consumer who would like to make this a daily driver
The Hellcat would be the muscle car I'd like to own. I would like to drive the Z28 at the track, but I would not take it home at the end of the day.
I owned both
"shes like a big girl who is still athletic" hahahahaha
One thing you have to factor into this car compared to its competitors is the fun factor and you can only get that behind the wheel. So quoting numbers around a track and how much the car weighs sounds nice to pick at but you can't really decide on a car's worth until your actually behind the wheel. And every review i watched on this car every reviewer seems to look like they are having more fun than in the Z06 or Z28 or Boss 302 or Shelby GT500 or etc......etc.....makes me want to get one when I'm done with my Boss 302 in about 3 more years of payments, lol.
I love this car so much, must get it!
I'd much rather see the German guy from the Mustang video review this car too. His joy of the American V8 was awesome.
I love this car I just wish we could get it here in Australia.
I like the "Driving Barely Harnessed Destruction" and "Sucking Deer and Moose"
I just love how ridiculous this thing is. I will probably never own one, but I'm glad it's there.
Why didn't Dodge strip some weight?? 4500 POUNDS is no joke. Imagine how better it could have been if it was a bit lighter. There ALWAYS has to be something wrong with Dodge products; I can't get over this number. I'm no a Ford fan but the GT500 is a whopping 600 pounds less than the hefty Hellcat and THAT is considered a heavy car. pffff
Arya Ahmadi Hope Dodge puts this Hellcat on a diet for the next gen models.
+Arya Ahmadi You have to keep in mind that they want that weight. Yea it is a heavy car but it needs to be. You are putting 707bhp to the back wheels. You need some weight on the girl to keep her down.......and besides even at 4500lbs it still does 200mph and that is just damn impressive.
Isnt it all steel? If another car hits you. The hellcat will come out on top! Lol. Ya and weight keeps them rear wheels down
The challenger looks like a dazed robot that is blazed
Great review!
2:29 the beast look so amazing
One note, that piece/bezel on the dash is not plastic, it's aluminum.
badass car. glad it exists
Mad Max anyone? Just awesome!
2:49 "I really like what *Chrysler* is doing with their interior!. Me too I also love the Toyota's Accord. LOL
Kin Taro dude chrysler owns dodge
David Pillai Yeahp, but Fiat Owns Chysler so what's the deal? Should we all say they engeneer the whole shit or just management?
Acerez Fiat doesn't own chrysler
How long ago was this video initially filmed? I saw a Hellcat two weekends ago that had a very distinctive Hellcat emblem behind the front fender well, it didn't say Challenger. Granted that was a dealer sample that Dodge drove over to show off to a gathering of the Viper club, but I can't imagine they would have stripped off the badge for the production car. It's subtle enough that you still need to know what to look for.
I so want this car!!!!
perfect analogy. the hellcat is like an athletic "big girl" just not suited to certain sports, namely gymnastics.
The stitching and leather quality on the Hellcat seats arr discussing. Looks like some cheap covers you buy at Walmart.
great video!
Thought Paul and Todd would have been more excited about this car.
Sounds amazing
You guys must've plotzed when the Redeye Widebody came out.
Another classic episode!! ...better suited for...like gymnastics...HAHAHA!
It's an excellent and beautiful car, mainly manual. It very good !.
There's also videos of the Hellcat smoking new Z06
what a monster beauty
This is my take on the hell cat, if I’m gonna buy a muscle car for under 70k I want the best possible car, and yes handling and cornering are important but thats not why people buy this type of car. You want something that is a straight up rocket ship in a straight line, I wouldn’t be able to stop smiling driving that car.
It's like the American version of crocodile dundee where said : "that's not a knife, (pulls out his bigger longer knife) that's a knife" It's like that but more like "oh really you call that mean? (revs the 6.2 Liter hellcat hemi V8) this is mean."
Would like to see the engines in your reviews, even if it's only a few shots, do it! why not? ;)
now a days everybody just wants something that runs fast stock. a real car enthusiasts loves to build HP!
Es una obra de arte
anybody noticed that camaro at 7:58 lol nothing like open road huh.
re-design is a godsend
"its not feasible to do burn outs where ever you are"- false roadkill does this in every episode
