Gotta say I hated the "voting every day" system this year. Basically ensures that ultra-popular stuff is going to dominate again. Why can't we just have one week to vote, one vote per person?
I think any award system is going to be a bit broken, id imagine they did it to stop this, like make it so the ones who really care will keep voting and maybe people just voting the popular ones might drop off but either way the outcome is the same regardless of the scale.
I voted once and never voted again. I got enough dailies already, I'm not wasting time on the fricking CR awards.

Because Crunchyroll is gay asf and they don’t allow sequels to not be nominated again yet shounen like JJK, DS and AOT get nominated over and over again. They said that was the reason re zero s2 didn’t get anything then proceeded to give aot s4 part 1. The hypocrisy and lack of respecting their own rules to suck up to the majority is astounding.

Man, the omissions for the Anime of the Year really makes me think they should expand the nomination count like the Oscars do. Little more representation for anime that excelled in their niche.
That was the first thing that popped into my head to seeing the list of shows nominated. There are at least 2 more shows and arguably more that should be in the running for best anime. 8 should be the minimum on the nominees and I could see an argument even for 10. Crunchyroll, if the Oscars is doing something as an award show better than you, you should feel bad.
The anime of the year nominations just make me sigh. Seriously, they nominated the latest part of AoT and latest season of Demon Slayer even though both those series had won anime of the year at previous Crunchyroll Awards. It's ridiculous.
Doesn't matter how good they are, they shouldn't be given a shot at winning that award TWICE

@@brandonr1127 STR probably wasn't eligible due Disney only releasing it in January. They've done the same with films before where the legal option came after the cut off. Probably why SAO: Progressive missed out as well. It's only just been shown in the cinema last week!
Idk why they nominated Eren's VA rather than Grisha's. Eren barely said anything out of monotone this season, while Grisha's performance in 4x20 was heartwrenching.
It comes down to how one would define good voice acting. Is it portraying the exact emotion of the character or is it hitting the high emotion lines that resonate to the viewer.
Eren is tired with all the bullshit he's been through throughout the series so it turned him into this callouse person. It would've been out of place if he did anything but.
Grisha on the other hand, has been pushed to his wit's end so it makes sense for his VA to react accordingly and boy did he do a great job at it.

It's literally just the Eren fanboys, which is very VERY tiring. Sucks for Grisha because he's probably the best character for that season with that rollercoaster of emotion and mind games he just went through against a literal psychopath.

Yea, it does happens a fair bit when all of the 2nd year students went for a school trip, u can say it was the arc that was needed the most for a certain characters to finally have the development that was needed for almost 200+ chapters (yep, took them this long, but well most of them are fillers). The lacking of romance story of this series has showed us how immensely needed for the main characters to finally move to the stage of romantism
Some romance scenes do happens fiarly, but it wasnt to often until like 3 to 4 seasons, yea its gonna take a while to get to the arc that i just mentioned

Kitagawa got royally screwed over by them getting rid of the best girl award. Highly doubt she beats Eren for best protag. Honestly a lot of the categories are pretty questionable in terms of what was removed and what was added.
Gonna bet CR got rid of best boy/girl because of silly social politics.
And replaced it with "must protect" wich is tailor made for anya simps.

I can understand the addition of the "want to protect" category since it would feel weird for characters like Anya to win best girl. Maybe they didn't think that category was complementary but rather a replacement? CR awards do weird stuff every year

Ai Fairouz should definitely win for best VA this year. She had not one, but at the very least two incredible performances this year (Jolyne from jojo's and Power from CSM). Also, Jojo's is what got her into voice acting in the first place, so it's incredibly fitting that she voices one of the protagonists.

It should have been nominated for Best Drama, I mean the suspense and the thrill pulls you in from the first episode and never leaves you until the last episode.

I completely forgot to participate in the voting this year despite watching a lot of airing animes in 2022. Always next year I guess. Sucks that Summertime Render is so underrated, but I am glad Ya Boy Kongming is part of best op sequence because it really deserves that. Haven't watched Cyberpunk though and want to start Made in Abyss series

TV producer here! Not sure how it works in Japan, but the calendar for western TV ends in the spring. So, the 2023 Emmy’s for example, award stuff that premiered in summer 22-spring 23.
I'm not sure if I hate or like the fact that fall 2022 wasn't included. Realistically, I think CSM, Mob and Bocchi would have just swept too many categories, but if that's gonna happen in a year that has demon slayer and AoT I think it's more than earned

To be fair, it was hard as hell to watch without some Yar-har-har.
I think something that really works against it, its that the 3rd act is quite a downhil from the previous episodes... and the last episodes usually leave a bigger overall impact, epsecially in a mystery show
Summertime Rendering also couldn’t be in the Awards because of rules Crunchyroll made (not for the same reason that Fall 2022 isn’t there, I think it has something to do with Disney+ not releasing the episodes earlier).

Completely agree with Summertime Rendering. But Crunchyroll tends to avoid nominating/showcasing shows not available on their site, so not shocked
It wasn't nominated because it came out on Disney+ only in 2023.
The Rumbling was such a banger opening, my most played song of the year, and it served as a thesis for Erin with where he's at in the story. And without spoiling anything, if you can create a thesis statement for Eren in this moment, then you're also essentially creating a thesis statement for the entire story of Attack on Titan (which is one of my favorite stories ever).
Also, with it being hardcore rock it serves to disprove a lot of the stereotypes people still have with what anime is i.e. childish/immature. The opening with its visuals, lyrics, and genre are as far removed as childish/immature as it gets. Best opening of the year imo.
CSM and Bocchi would absolutely dominate this year if they were included. I can imagine why they decided not to include them. Just imagine best ED and 3 out of 6 are definitely going to be CSM lol

Probably because it wasn't actually a new song, in fact the show made it popular. It was actually from a radio station inside the game. If only they released the game and the show together, it'd actually have broken the internet.

No offense, but this is a popularity contest, none of those are even close to being popular enough. I was surprised Shikimori even got any nominations, considering how mediocre the reception to it was. Personally, the only opening out of those that I even remember was Bastard and that was cause I was interested in it before I realized it was a continuation of an old series that I didn't want to bother watching.
you know that voting contest is just the competition of popularity and have nothing to do with the quality. Most people don't watch all anime in the season and just vote for the one that they watch. And most people pick their anime to watch based on popularity.

Once you reach a certain amount of years watching anime, only about 1-3 series a year will actually captivate you, eventually you rather spend your free time browsing UA-cam than watch some 7/10 anime for the millionth time
So I'm confused because the voting is closed, but you can look at the winners, even though the livestream announcement hasn't happened yet.
The only tab that can be open is the Anime of the Year tab and it shows thar AoT won.
You can't open any other tab to see any of the other winners, and something tells me that this is a fuck up on Crunchyroll's part and they didn't actually intend of this to be accessible yet.

I would never ever shut up about summertime rendering. That show alone surprised me especially if your're going in blind even with all the big titles burying it with fame. Yes cyberpunk, aot, demon slayer, bocchi, made in abyss and many others are awesome but summertime render will personally be my anime of the year 2022 I'm just glad that Garnt managed to mention it because it really deserves something.

In case you didnt know, Arnor Dan, who has done vocals for Zankyou no Terror, also returned in Made in Abyss season 2 ost for, for example, Gravity. Just might be an explanation of why you felt this resemblance
I think Yofukashi no uta would have won anyone, but I really feel like Koumei deserved a nomination for best ED. Kibun Joujou is an absolute banger, and it does that thing I love with theme songs where it evolves over time as the cast grows, it was pretty much the only ED I listened to all the way everytime I watched the show

A rare year where I wouldn't be mad if you chose all the most popular options, just overall a great year for anime!
Fun fact as to why call of the night was so good. The former shaft director (forgot his name) who did most of the monogatari series from nise on.. no not shinbo but one of his two other directors made call of the night. That's why it felt so refreshing and why we got some subtle shaft head tilts in there. Great series.
Chisatos VA substantially contributed to Lycoris Recoil‘s overall quality in my opinion (besides the stunning animation, engaging characters and very well written and entertaining story).
The performance was so far away from any kind of generic trope acting that I‘m actually kinda surprised that you didn’t put some respecc on her name.
Summer Time Rendering and SAO: Progressive weren't nominated due to only recently coming out legally. Thus they missed the cut like the Autumn shows. Which BTW if they can't include those because of time restraints, just move the awards!
Maybe the Anime Awards shouldn't take place immediately after the year is over then. Summer Time Rendering was my favorite anime of 2022.

I appreciate that you voted for One Piece in Best Continuing Series as I got back into it thanks to One Piece Red and reading up on what’s currently going on via the Wano Arc, it definitely deserves it.
However I did not vote for One Piece Red in Best Film because even though I really like it I feel the writer for it dropped the ball in some areas. Like they made it seem like Shanks would have a big role but he doesn’t show up till the third arc and Luffy doesn’t get as much interaction with Uta as he should that would of helped show the strong connection the two of them are said to have.
Dragon Ball Super Super Hero on the other hand was able to deliver in that stuff. Piccolo and Gohan are said to have a big role in the movie which they do while we not only got a lot of moments that showed the strong connection they have but we also get that via the Gammas and how they interact with each other as well as how they interact with their creator Hedo.
Also between the two DBSSH has way better action. I was very invested in all the fights compared to OPR where it’s only the big final battle in the third act. Also both have good dubs but Zeno is a big reason why I’m a Gamma 2 stan so due to all that I voted for DBSSH and yes I voted for Zeno in Best Dub Va. Though OPR definitely has the best music I’ll give it that and cause of it I voted for New Genesis for Best Song. Totally recommend a listen btw.

Aot is my favorite show 100% but goddamn it hurt my soul not voting for 86 for best drama. That show is incredible and doesn’t get the hype it deserves. It made me feel things that no other show has before

@@TropiKalBoards the thing that completely turned me off about aot is that at the end it became a competition of who can do the most eugenics/genocide and it felt like that flew over the community’s head and where all “oh erens doing nothing wrong blah blah blah” instead of going “yeah there’s no good people in this situation.” 86 (as far as the first season) made a better narrative as it’s about people who where forced to become soldiers for a country that sees them as subhuman, and that backfired on the country as the legion advanced and shin and his group were finally able to make the choice of fighting on their will in order to not let their dead comrades down and find a meaning for themselves, all while trying to save humanity, and the country that gave them a helping hand after leaving the 86th district.
Honestly I've stopped caring about the awards simply cause the popularity contest always wins. There's a minority of anime fans who vote purely after watching most of, if not all, the anime's nominated. Whereas majority just vote on the big titles purely cause they didn't watch anything else.
Not to mention the nominations don't do justice at all to the amazing animes that came from 2022. It is kinda crazy how different this list would be if fall was included. Like almost every category would be completely changed and opinions would be completely different.
I think the reason why the fall season didn't get nominated is because they aired through December and the beginning of January, I think the only anime that get announced through a year are the one aired from December 1st of one year to December 1st of another as we can see that last year the Mugen train arc was nominated as it ended at the end of November but the first part of Stone Ocean didn't when that first batch was released the 1st of December. So if this is correct, stone ocean may get announced again as a nominee
I don't understand how despite the anime community having a very unique and clearly defined categorization for how to organize anime by release... The Anime Awards just says nah that's stupid, let's do the first day of the last month to the first of the last month instead

@@rcube33 Apparently, they are going by the TV airing seasons as someone mentioned further up, so basically, the season ends in the spring for western TV shows, which is why it is organized in that way.
