One clarification to commenters. Garnt mentions in the VOD that this isn't just Isekai tier list but also involves fantasy from Narokei or fantasy in general.
Garnt's presentation skills don't miss, really liking this strong streaming personality, alongside the seasonal takes on what's airing. Looking forward to how far you push this channel

An Alchemist who could make concoctions that can empower a mortal to be able to kill demons and also can make a salve to reject death is someone to respect. There are also those who dabble in toxicology... so please be kind. Take some advice from this sword swinging ape, magical science is OP.
Rui Tsukiyo. Dude has actually written a ton of fantasy/isekai stories. My favourite one that I'm currently reading the manga of right now is Orc Harem. Great Sage Slime Reincarnation is good too, but it hasn't updated in a while. I wonder if the translators dropped it.
I saw someone's comment on the full vod I think. They were saying that the assassin isekai web novel is terrible and how they were surprised that it ended up being any good.
He also wrote one where the MC is a Demon Lord building a dungeon. That one is actually pretty good imo, and is not only finished, but the translator has not only translated it in full, they also translated the sequel in full.
I feel in "So I'm a Spider, So What?" if they managed to balance both timelines of the story, it would've turned out to be so much better than it is in the anime.

Finally, a fellow spider enjoyer. For all the faults of this show - the CGI being just barely above Berserk 2016-17 levels, the human characters being bland, and the whole thing turning into a PowerPoint presentation several times - it deserves A tier solely for the *true* best girl of the year. I wonder if Aoi Yuuki still has back pains from absolutely carrying Kumodesu single-handedly
@@susanwalls3580 I didn't know this was a controversial opinion. From my knowledge the widespread opinion on this show was "enjoy the spider, skip the humans"
@@MimicAraiun it doesn't help that the anime decided to essentially drain every shred of personality out of anyone on the human side of things not named Fei. (Funny how both best girls in this anime are nonhumans.) I haven't read the LNs but I hear the humans are slightly less cardboardy there
So glad he acknowledged Kumo (the spider Isekai), it's such a gem that was bottlenecked by the shitty animation. The writing in Kumo is genuinely impressive and it's like my top 5 Isekai for sure.

I think "I'm a spider, so what?" really needs a season 2, BUT a different studio. The studio did amazing in the firts few episodes, but the quality of the episodes started to decrease extremely fast on the last few. It was so bad that the characters did not sync with the voice lines, and the frame rate was nuclear bomb. Another studio need to take over Spider. Same voice actors, just a different studio.
Imagine if it was done by studio Orange (Beastars, Land of the Lustrous). No one would complain about "bad CG" then. That said, I've read a bit of the WN, and I have to admit that it falls off a bit following where the anime left off. There's much less focus on spider, and she's really shy when interacting with other characters so we lose out on a lot of her personality. The plus side is that it does a lot to develop and expand the world and other characters/factions, with a fairly cohesive narrative (which a lot of isekai tend to lack as they go on). There's also less (but still some) jumping around with time frames.
To say nothing about the elf "forest" wasteland at the end of the season. Add in how they rearranged the order of some of the events on spider side which just resulted in less tension, and butchered the human side (especially in production quality) that a lot of the viewers would've preferred it cut out. The hype I had reading the end of volume 4 made me wonder how we got there the entire time I was reading through to book 10, but it really was a let down watching the end of the season. I really wish that they had split it into two cours, given more time to it and been more faithful to the source. Glad at least the series gets an A from Gigguk despite all my gripes with it
Not only the last few, every 2D fight in the entire show is a PowerPoint presentation with some drunk guy's camera work. Millepensee needs to get off anime.
I went into Spider with no preconception of what it was supposed to be and I had no idea what the studio that made it was. It was a 10/10 for me. I loved it.
I was astonished when, in Mushoku Tensei, Zanoba Shirone tried to honor his late brother by naming Julia after him. That show even gives its wacky comic relief otaku a complex inner universe.
Mushoku Tensei respected the concept of Chekov's Gun the most, I think. No character really goes to waste. Everyone's stories weave together beautifully to form a tapestry of life so absent from many other shows. It wasn't just the story of one young man. It was a fully grown world.
The one about the kid in the boonies is actually more frustrating. Everyone else around him realizes he's much stronger but he is incapable of actually understanding that he's actually much stronger than normal people. Every single time he starts whining like "oh I'm not as strong as you" while he casually punches a dragon through the stratosphere. You almost wish you were as strong as him so you can snap his neck. It wasn't funny the first time and it wasn't funny the 16th time. The only thing I liked about it was the primary antagonist that was established at the end of that season. I like his reasoning and his goal I think it's well done as far as uniqueness goes. The rest of the time the show is basically pissing about.
Because you forget one thing: It's because he's the weakest in his village. He literally grew around people much stronger than he was, and that affected his personality.
@@Kaimax61 Doesn't make it less annoying after everyone keeps telling him that he's stronger than people outside of his village and he doesn't learn. If he can figure out that one plus one equals two then I'll be less annoyed by it. I swear I feel like he needs to wear a bike helmet just to go pee by himself for how dumb he is.
@@Kaimax61 I haven't read the series, but have read similar ones where the same thing happens throughout dozens of chapters and it gets tiring and bored.
@@Kaimax61 still pretty stupid, because he can clearly see how much more powerful he is. There’s a viewable evidence for everyone to see. It’s not like they’re just telling him that he’s actually powerful, he does shit that most people can’t do. It’s not a confidence issue, it’s a stupidity issue.
I stopped watching in the middle of episode three because I couldn't handle his obliviousness anymore. If it wasn't for that, would've been a nice mid-tier show that I might have finished. Also I just hate it when misunderstandings are played for comedy, especially when writers have to bend over backwards making their characters stupid in order for such misunderstandings to happen.
because lets be honest, besides the one fact that he came from the human world, that fact is never brought up again. It's a great shonen, but the isekai part is barely there. Like even when grampa nudged him to be a demon lord, they never try to conflict it with the fact he's a human. well maybe not right now, but serisouly, the isekai part never plays into the story.
@@blackwoodd slime is fun,it's not the greatest shit since sliced fucking bread but if your bored it's leageus above not doing anything,it convinced me to watch 48 episodes +17 bonus ones sooooo.
It’s insane to me that people will say you support the bad parts of Jobless reincarnation but don’t have a problem with people enjoying tv shows like Game of Thrones where sexual violence is extremely prevalent throughout the series.
GOT has a violent world, sexual violence is a apart of it, most of the characters are morally grey and still sexual violence are still seen as a evil thing by evil people and a big deal(except Jaime and Cersei scene that doesn't exist in the books). Jobless reincarnation as the hero, we supposed to relate and root for is a pedo that get a power fantasy treatment his pedo brain inside a child body so his creepiness became less creepy. But I still watch the show I just wish that part wasn't apart of it. I don't think every person who watch the show is a pedo because of it.
@@jackyoh971 If we just started as some random soul born into a magical world who was a lovely marshmallow to all the girls the show would be generic af. People who complain about his past life self being a cretin are completely missing the point of compelling character growth. Shows which have a main “hero” are for children.
I watch loads of historical content, stuff like Nanking massacre and the Judea revolt are cool to learn about, I don’t support the japanease imperial army and crushing the judea revolt was a rare Roman L.
About Arcane, I can add one more thing. If you play league of legends and follow the story, it also shows their path to reaching that moment. It adds a new level. Ekko's abilities his fighting style, jayce's reasons and his weapon, vi's growth and punches, viktor and his search for cure above all, rise of hextech, gave a new dimension to all the characters in the game as well. You can, also guess some stuff. Such as that purple stuff is, I am sure came from void. A glimpse of noxus ideals, magic in runeterra and Jayce's first encounter, man... I saw the league of legends heroes they became, and I understood how they ended up like that. Those ideologies, their beliefs, abilities... It is already quite an achievement to write a good, consistent story with well developped characters and amazing animation, but they also tied it to game. It was not just a, "you know the story from the game" stuff. Or it wasn't just, "you saw the show come play the game" advertisement. It was an amazing show on itself, and there was this small nod to players of the game who followed the story. I really liked this aspect of the show. A good tragedy, consistent story, well established characters with amazing references. Masterpiece.
"Where are the people trying to cancel Goku?" they did, a whoooole debate for 2 years about whether he was the most abusive father known to man or just a father trying to teach his own ways. I also remember Master Roshi being cancelled for being the comedic perverted character. I think it was a senator that wanted to cancel him. It's a shame that nowadays we can't like fictional characters for what they are FICTION
Just because the Twittler Youth is huffing and puffing and stomping their feet on the ground doesn't mean they cancelled Goku. Or whatever sins they project onto Master Roshi.
@@Baron_Wurst Yep. The entire idea of something being "cancelled" literally just means that a Twitter mob has decided to lock themselves away in their basement. The irony is that they're cancelling themselves from the outside world, not the other way around xD
@@Baron_Wurst i mean for Roshi it was twitter and probably a woman that was feminist that was against him as a whole. the goku one has been happening outside of Twitter for years, the recent 2 years prior to what i mentioned are the most intense ones. UA-camrs supporting or attacking each other for this and others joking about it. Heck Instagram was involved as well.
Now, I really enjoyed "My Next Life as a Villainess" manga (haven't seen the anime), but if you think that the plot point of the main character trying to prevent her own death in an isekai is a novel one, may I suggest checking every other Korean isekai or fantasy manhwa - they really, really go hard for that trope there :D
Definitely. It sucks that Bakarina got off to a pretty decent and fun start but then it _REALLY_ diminishes over time and too quickly. So many others, even some that are just in the middle, do a bit, if not more, better than it.
I’m so glad you brought up Mushoku Tensei… yes, there’s some cringe worthy moments but that’s just part of what makes it a masterpiece. It’s a realistic isekai that doesn’t sugarcoat the life changing transformation of a social outcast getting a second chance in another world. S tier all day.
"I don't know who's invested enough in slime that they wanted Slime Diaries" Me I'm invested Diaries was so cute and wholesome and such a pleasant slice of life between season 2's cours
I wonder how Connor would've reacted if you made a new tier called "Connor/CDawgVA", put Seirei Gensouki in there, and then put that tier in the very bottom...
those who have read slime light novel , knows RIMURU DOING :- slaughter , massacre , destroy universes and then create , alter dimensions , has the power to control time and then BECOME A GOD from an wholesome anime to an 18+ anime in the future
With the spider Isekai i enjoy the change in perspective showing her as a more cute anime face when you are experiencing it from her POV. And then an actual monstrous spider with everyone else.
As a fellow isekai enthusiast this was great. And I noticed I ended up sharing quite a lot of the same opinions. There was a few I didn't watch that you rated highly so based on the other similar opinions I'll give them a chance. Thanks :D
That mashuko tensei rant is honestly valid. Because if what people were saying was true, then everybody who watched Dexter would support serial killers and death penalty.
Yeah, pretty much, although I still believe that things like that can be taken as a form of critisism of the show in terms of overall tone and importance to the plot or characters. It also can be criticised in terms of humour, which although highly subjective, it still depends of tone, expectation and timing (its not the same to do a fart joke in a scene with mineta from boku no hero, and do the same joke in a moment of introspection in berserk). I mention all this because I feel that people tend to go to both extremes, either full "this makes you a bad person" mode or "this is completely irrelevant, its just fiction" mode. The problem with both is that in the end they just act as a diservice to storytelling, because they focus too much in a point that its nit thta impirtant and judge the whole series by that standard, or make pretty much all praise, critisism or emotionality if stories null due to it being "just fiction".
Breaking bad and better call Saul really are examples that add to this even more. I mean, Walter White and Jimmy are both scumbags. Saul/Jimmy actually holds the record for the most angry and/or disappointed I've ever been in a character. Yet I still like the show. Still can't look at Bingo the same ever again though...
I can't believe you put Full Dive into E tier. It's one of the only isekai where the MC isn't overpowered, and the universe doesn't bend over backwards for them
Garnt making the same mistake as with overly Cautious hero: I watched 2 episodes they seem to be going to follow a generic trend therefore it is shit. Like bruh, how on Earth is Full Dive generic, he just assumed he was gonna get kirito'd into the game. And with Overly Cautious he got to chapter 4 saw the character was strong and thought he was gonna remain and undefeateable OP Mc with no background. Sigh (Same author on both)
I binged Re:Zero the way where you just instantly press the next episode button, so I just watched the whole thing before realizing that the thing was two seasons. It's such a smooth story
I just watched Banished from the hero's party. It's actually a very good show that uses cliches in a meaningful way and wxplores core themes. Also the romance is a beaztiful breath of fresh air.
I think Gigguk forgets that Mushoku tensei isn't on Crunchyroll. They would never give top awards to an anime they don't have. That's also why the demon Slayer movie won so much even though it came out in 2020. It came to Crunchyroll in 2021.
I don’t even know if it’s all because of that but it probably has a bit to do with it. If I had one nitpick for slime it’s how one sided of a character Rimuru is in season 1. If I had one for Moushoku tensei it would be that Rudy is such a perv that I feel weird if I say he’s cool. That’s the only reason I disconnect with him. hopefully season two will fix it but I doubt Moushoku Tensei would’ve won due to the fact that part 2 of season one came out off the backend of slime season two and people who already had isekai fatigue just had it get worse and didn’t wanna watch it.
That's not really a valid excuse. It just makes them less relevant if they can't judge those outside their service. Imagine if Netflix ran their own Oscars or Grammies and it's all Netflix stuff.
I'd say my favorite Isekai of 2021 was _Log Horizon,_ but I'll admit that's in large part because I already love the show so much, and seeing a third season after so many years meant I was probably gonna enjoy it no matter what. Other than that I also enjoyed _Realist Hero, Re:Zero,_ and _That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime_ quite a bit too.
@@PelStrike Yeah I really hated it too. The best thing about Log Horizon is the clever worldbuilding and the 'rules' of the half video game, half real world. Stuff like auto-crafted food being tasteless, the new potential powers of the professions, and both the internal and external politics going on is really fun. With fights that worked due to their heavy emphasis on strategy, and MMO basis. But then, with all the interesting politics and depth, the author decides "Lets dedicate half the time to some idiot kids having a generic fantasy adventure with generic fights!". It's truly bizarre. Like they got a really unique and thought out isekai, that's dialogue heavy and has fun characters, and then decided to merge it with a generic isekai that's aimed at REALLY young kids. What? I thought this side plot was sorta clever at the start that would just last a single arc. But then...it never ended. In S1 it got annoying. In S2 it got really annoying. And when it came to S3, when I wanted to see the rules of the world get pushed even further, to see the politics progress, and to see the genius Shiroe work his magic; I instead got another shoehorned kiddies plot where they had to save everyone while simultaneously devaluing Shiroe by essentially making one of the child-sized planks of wood copy the power of the protagonist in the series. It doesn't make any sense to me...
Ahh yes season 3 the collpase of the fucking anime. I seriously dont hate politics and long narrative scenes/ episodes but Log Horizon s3 managed to make me hate it.
Man it was my fav isekai for so long bcuz of its s1 and s2 but s3 felt lackluster after so many years of waiting... still carries a nostalgia tho. now my favorites are mushoku tensei and re zero
When it comes to the difference between kingdom building in Slime compared to Realist Hero, it is their approach to it. Rimuru kind of just goes with it and it happens. He knows some things from having lived in modern Japan, but it isn't his actual focus. He was a salaryman. In Realist Hero, it is his focus. It is his study as a soon to be University Student. It is his goal, mostly because he doesn't want to be thrown on to the front lines facing the Demon Lord's Army. He knows he isn't suited for that after being summoned.
Rimuru's focus is to make a world he is happy with. He does not just go with it. If you read the ln you'd would see he makes a lot of economic and political moves. He manipulated masayuki for his own(Tempest's) gain. Which he did not have to do. I see where your coming from sense rimuru is a chill guy but the moves he makes does not seem like someone who just goes with it. He has his own goals and tries to reach them.
Bro in slime he was a salary man but he was in construction job. So he knows alot about how to construct and handle people. If you read LN you will know. He gives independence to people to make anything they want.
As someone who loves Re Zero and loves Emilia (thanks to season 2) it’s great to hear garnt talk about it because I haven’t heard much of his thoughts about it (only passing comments or whatever). And to hear him say that he’s on the Emilia train for best girl is amazing 😂 I feel like not many people talk about re zero anymore, but I’m hoping we get a season 3 announcement sometime this year
Looking at how s2 was, the upcoming seasons have so much potential. I just hope studio issue is resolved soon because I don't to wait 2 years for next season
I'm just glad to hear about Arcane from Gigguk again. It's fucking amazing. Literally one of the best things that came out in 2021. I guess I'll watch Mushoku Tensei too, since I just watched arcane because Gigguk recommended it. It's nice to have a second channel just for vods
Even though Arcane is not an anime it was definitely a breath of fresh air. It had really good story and really good writing, like every character was really well thought of. I'm not a league player and can definitely say that I don't need to know league to understand ARCANE. Seriously I would recommend it to anyone even if they watch various anime like me.
Yes! Faraway Paladin got messed over by the production company. Or maybe it was the writers interference, I know some writers have done that so idk, but the animation just wasn’t there for this story. I also think it could have benefited from a director rewrite. While the books are enjoyable, they are slow and take a bit too much time in certain areas. This doesn’t translate well to anime and I think some brainstorming on how some characters can meet, how long traveling takes, etc, could be reorganized and streamlined.
@@Lolleman255 yeah, I’d recommend the manga or book. They are much better. I honestly hope this story is given another chance at an anime and is done better
I'd honestly just recommend reading the novel. Feels less like you are reading isekai and more like mythos. Absolute gem, I consider it among the top 3 isekai.
Bro exactly, I recommend the manga cuz its so good. They changed a lot in the anime, and the animation wasnt so great. But man everything about faraway paladin in thr manga is so well written. The world building, decision making, the characters' point of views, development, pacing is just like mashoku, even the power scaling, the combat isnt bullsht becuz they really think about how to fight without bullsht powerups or somethin, it has city building as well like slime, like nothing feels wrong in every scenario, also, no fan service, which makes it more purer to read, the way talk feels realistic, the characters feels like genuine people, theres so much good sht I cant point it all out
@@velgard. They just stand there and go ham at each other without saying anything, and you understand everything. Even the choreography is extremely well done.
A double edged sword of a first choice if I ever saw one. On one hand, you're starting with the best of the best, on the other, it's all downhill from here so everything else you watch will only end in disappointment.
Gigguk's comparison between between Attack on Titan season 2 and Re:Zero season 2 is one i agree with, we're just now getting into the meat of the series, given that episode 18 "From Zero" is considered the end of the prologue. and since the whole series is planned to be 11 arcs long, with some quite sizeable arcs, there's gonna be a lot of meat to dig into. the whole series is gonna be an estimated 50+ volumes long, over twice the size of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation and even dwarfing Ascendance of a Bookworm's projected 33 volume length. hell, White Fox barely managed to fit in Arc 4 during season 2, even with regular 29 minute episodes and despite that, important stuff was still cut from the anime
How about a third season of isekai quartet that includes Slime, Mushoku Tensei, and the four spider sisters? Spider sisters get a class all to themselves. Or added to Yunyun's class and they terrorize the crap out of her.
Love how Grant put Arcane in an anime tier list because he wanted to talk more Arcane lmao. Like, I love the show and I’m all for it, but I guarantee there’s a number of viewers here frothing in the mouth with rage seeing it in an anime tier list.
@@Kaimax61 man you're missing out on some really great writing. Many movie youtuber analysts even deemed to call it a masterpiece calling it the show that happens once in a lifetime . Maybe that quote was a lil bit exaggerating but Damm... It is really one of or the best shows Ive watched since a very long time
Talking about Isekai, Imma just recommend the NOVELS of Kumo desu, they are pretty fun and the world is pretty creative once the twists and reveals start happening. Also Ariel and Shiro are great
I think the problem with that evaluation of Realist Hero is that while he nominally references history/economics/politics from our world, he does so in a way that indicates the author has like high school level understanding of those things at best (And like not even a good high school level understanding). If Kazuya weren't displayed as an expert it might work well, but he's portrayed as brilliant and that every decision of his works even as he implements his hilariously terrible Machiavelli interpretations.
Exactly! There's a thing called expertise. If you're trying to apply basic knowledge and huge reforms on the scale of a country you better have *decades of experience* in that specific field or shit will hit the fan real fast. If Realist Hero was actually realistic, our protag's decisions would backfire real fast and he'd probably get executed or assassinated real fast.
one thing to mention about Spider is that the animation studio lost the data for the last few episodes and needed to remake it with cgi from scratch so I will give them a chance
Since we are talking about isekai, let's do a bit of time travel. Anyone remember **Drifters** from the same author as Hellsing ? That's a good isekaï if I ever saw one. Especially the fact that they are using historical figure well while still having shit and giggles with them.
Thank you for calling out the fools who say that if you liked Rudy in Mushoku Tensei you support x/ are a horrible person. I despise that argument because it is such a slippery slope and it very much is a guilt by association fallacy. Yes, there are horrible people but indulging in those stories doesn't mean you automatically support them. Heck, if anything; those stories showing those events can be deterrents for said events. In Rudy's case, the series very smartly frames his perveted actions as creepy and uncomfortable. This being a byproduct of his crappy childhood and the Japanese society. No excuse for him partaking in those actions, but it served the series excellently in that just because he's reincarnated, doesn't mean his past traumas/ flaws disappear. And that you can slowly move on from those developments. In short, the moral puritans need to stop pearl clutching. You don't like Rudy and don't want to watch the show? Cool. But spare us the scarlet lettering.
@@srikrishnabhat6793 Wish I could get paid for watching/reading as much isekai as I do. It's actually kind of fun watching the trends as popular manga get adapted to anime. If the same trends follow, get ready for a lot of otome ge isekai anime where the protagonist is the reincarnated as the villain/villainess. Yes, there are tons more than just All Routes Lead to Doom. I'd be really excited for an adaptation of the World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs, because it also includes mecha, which is fun.
i agree with Rudeas being excessively horny but it also has a massive impact for his character building and as garnt says he gradually get less and less horny he is a great MC cause you can actually relate to problems he had had before .i personally recommend the show but its your choice if you want to watch it ether way i hope the next anime you watch is great (its very likely that no one is going to read this but thank you if you did).
I watched the assassin isekai recently, liked it, but found it perhaps too slow in certain parts, and then went and read the manga, and I got a much bigger appreciation of the time they took in the anime with the world building and the characters, since things just happen out of nowhere in the manga. If only they had a bigger budget for the animations and toned down the comedic gags and the fan service a bit, it could have been a great show. Still, it's a pretty good one and I hope we'll get a second season soon, since they left quite a lot of questions unanswered.
As league of legends player i ensure to you that you don't need to play or be invested in the game to watch Arcane the show dose a great job presenting itself as independent narrative, if you still didn't watched it yet what are you waiting for, cuz as it creazy as it sounds they didn't even scratch a tiny fraction from the game Lore and with what i have seen about it i only expact the upcoming season to get much more better
@@trapchan386still no one can tell about that there is some characters in Arcane whos played a role in other nations but none can tell if they would adapt it or not what i ment is that there is much more amazing stories in the game lore that could be inclouded in arcane and have a relation with its time line like jhin story for example you can look that up if you want
Didn’t it revamp some of the written lore to suit an episodic series better? Even still, I didn’t like it. It seemed like their goal was to capture as many dramatic moments and action scenes as possible, resulting in an all-ways flung narrative. This gets two big problems: predictable scene setup and thinly spread budgeting. Even with the deepest characters in the world, you can tell what’s going to happen to them 5 minutes in advance when everything is leading to either a fight or a rug pull. Even with a massive animation budget, the limitations of spreading too thinly shine through in the form of jump cuts replacing choreography. It had me snoozing big time.
It's been 2 years since I stopped watching anime because most of the stories are monotonous and boring. Arcane is like a breath of fresh air, it is definitely a masterpiece. Can't wait for s2.
2:23 Thank you Grant. Thank you. Not that I thought less of you, not at all, I've been watching you since you started as AZ, but the fact that you acknowledged Yuru Camp as "Fucking amazing" really feels good in my soul. and the fact that you're not a fan of slice of life genre makes it even better.
I know it did not came out in 2021, but I really want to hear Grant’s opinions on Rance series, since it has been one of the works Mushoku Tensei originated from and I love it
For the Jobless Slime that got traveresed into a duel for which is a better fantasy argument I have to say this. And by this I mean I am Essay-kun and do a comparison of both shows and how I felt about them at the time. Season 1 of both started out very nice, very fun and very similar. Rudeus and Rimuru spawn, get to know the world and recognize that they get stronger when they train, GG episode 1 both shows are great. Rudeus then had a training arc, ruined his family, half repaired the damage to his family, gets a girlfriend, makes a connection with his teacher, learns magic and is an overall epic dude. Then the show does a 180° and he leaves all the people he built relationships with behind to become a teacher. For the rest of season 1 he then more or less becomes a prepubesent pervert that does no cool magic, does not develop cool magic, does not train in cool magic and builds a relationship with Eris but its anime creepy because he is a perverted underaged 50 year old but then again there is Jiraiya in Naruto so I don't get put off by this that much? Then the show does another 180°, mana disaster everything goes boooom. So for me the show started as a 10/10 and became a 6.5 or 7/10 at the end of season 1. This is probably due to the equation of: Expectation - Reality = Dissapointment. It started out as my favorite and ended up being just another Isekai. Season 1 of slime was essentially this. Rimuru plays an epic mix of Minecraft, Age of empires, Civilisation, Sims and Animal Crossing but with cheats enabled and has a great time discovering the world and magic while he lays the foundation for a new country and faces the challanges that come with that. E.g. gets attacked alot because monsters fight. Then he has an epic fight against a super Pig and becomes a super Slime himself. Then he does some politics and in the end makes friends with Milim to destroy a flying shark dragon. So this was a 10/10 in the beginning and didn't really dip in the comedic/slice of life episodes because all the character behaved like it felt they would. Season 2 of Mushoku Tensei, Rudi and gang on side quests.... so now after we got seperated from all the characters we gave a shit about twice we find ourself on the demon continent. Rudi and Eris make friends with Ruijerd. Ruijerd is basically a get out of fights with an easy win card.... but so is Rudi??? They find the hometown of his Teacher, neat. They travel across the continent and Rudi does not use magic, is not cool, does no epic fantasy things while being in an epic fantasy world. Then they arrive in a port city. Sidequests completed, part 1 of season 2 finished. Season 2 of Slime: Rimuru is chillin with his homies, Shion wins a flex contest vs Tiger lady. Rimuru goes on city holidays and then returns bu because of bad writing it kinda already happened in season 1?? but then he gets attacked and has an epic fight and his city gets attacked and its an epic fight, people die when they are killed. Planning session, lore dump for foreshadowning, another planning session. Epic revenge annihilation Slime Season 2 episode 11 is a masterclass and one of my favorite episodes of the year. Diabllo got summoned, 20000 soldiers got solod, he evolved and repaired the bodies of the dead and put their sould back into them now Shion is back, very very nice indeed. Oh then Diablo got named and Veldora the chad returns, all is epic. Season 2 of Mushoku Tensei part 2, Rudi and gang go on even more side quests........... they cross the ocean, Rudi gets an overpowered Eye. nice thats so cool, now he can do more epic fantasy magic stuff. Its basically a 3 tomoe sharingan but more focussed on future sight. I'm hyped about this eye because its a sharingan and observation haki in the same eye, oh this gonna be great when he actually decides to use it. Then they travel for ages, Eris gets leveled up as a Swordmaster as she deserves. They manage to finally arrive nd reunite with Rudis family. But then they didnt and Rudi beats up his father. But this is all really very sad and emotional, because Rudi was having a fun adventure while Paul was depressed and almost suicidal. Sister mother step sister retrieval arc. Without Rudi being useful... Then Mushoku Tensei Season 2 part 2 Episode 11 hits and it's probably my favorite episode of the year so far. Since like episode 6 in Season 1 Rudi does epic magic stuff when facing Dragon God Orsted. Yes he waited for his whole party to get whiped out and being 1 hit ko'ed himself before he remeberes that he is allowed to fight, but when he does it is really epic. Then they riive at Eris place, they fuck, Eris recognizes that Rudi was able to damage the hand of the most feared presence on the planet and that she herself is a Sword God and they both together probably can only get taken down by 20 Saint Class or higher elite troups in a gank effort and therfore decides to persumably submit to the will of a kingdom that persumably also got whiped out by the mana disaster and leave Rudi and then he gets depressed, which makes sense since he hasnt learnt to deal with loss in his life so far, this was a hard scene. So it started cool, then sidequests, mega epic fight, meh ending. Season 2 of Slime part 2: so basically there was a conference because Rimuru killed 20'000 people. Then the conference got prolonged. Rimuru goes to war with Clayman and wins. Bonding, development and epic moments for the side characters. So much lore and info dump and politics. Rimuru decides he will become a certifed Demon Lord by killing Clayman who was responsible for the fuckery that happened since the show started. Epic character introductions, we see what happenes across the world. Rimuru goes to Walpurgis, the strong people (not Rimuru, Clayman, Frey or Karrion decide to not kill him), there is an epic fight and Rimuru and gang win.Actaully, Rimuru gives Clayman the suck after he outsamrts his outsmarting him, so destruction of mind and body. Its a complete domination, Clayman gets revenged and deleted, Rimuru gets some street cred with the big boys and made official ruler of his land. Good culmination of many story threads from season 1 and 2. (also Veldora can do a Kamehameha because he reads manga which is such a nice addition the anime made^^). I understand why people would vote Slime over Mushoku Tensei. When you look at the story as a whole, Mushoku Tensei feels like "the side quest adventure of Rudi who meets lots of people for 2 episodes and then leaves and forgets to be epic and do cool magic even tho he could, we saw it in episode 3 when he was like 5, omg he is so strng do something doooo something" and Slime feels like "Rimuru plays Minecraft in creative mode, Age of Empires with cheats and Civilisation against noobs and he is really good at it. Then there's also politics with the characters that were introduced in season 1. And he is a geniune badass and flexes hard when he has to" That said, Mushoku Tensai has far better animations and way more fluid sword fighting than Slime. Slime feels like a more lighthearted story but the world and characters ake sense in that there are consequences for actions, the antagonists arent idiots and Rimuru acts like a reasonable person would. Mushoku Tensei feels like a side story adventure, Rudi feels like an absolute idiot that never played a game in his entire life even tho he used to be a gamer, the whole setting is darker than that of Slime but the characters act like they arent in that setting for long periods of time. When watching Mushoku Tensei I always think: Rudi you dumd fcking idiot, why are you bad at this? When watching Slime I feel like: Predating enemies with slime powers is so op and cool. Also nice cast of sidecharacters, Benimaru has more character development in 30 episodes than Sakura got in 700. Also when watching Slime i feel like: Damn its so sad that Rimuru can't bang his harem because he is a slime.
You missed one. Uma Musume is technically an isekai. The very first line of the show is: "Horse girls. They are born to run. They **inherit the names of horses from another world**" And btw, it was also easily Anime of the Year.
Personally, as someone who has watched all of these shows, I quite enjoyed Full Dive. It was generic for the first few episodes but I feel that by the end of the first season it was at least entertaining enough for me to want to see what happens next.
For those who enjoyed "My Next Life As A Villainess". If you want to read a manga with a similar setting, and slightly better story in my opinion, that also has a good ending and doesn't force it to continue beyond that, check out: "Fiancée's Observation Log Of The Self-Proclaimed Villainess". There are quite a few Villainess isekai, but these are the two best that I've read.
Someone finally respected spider isekai. While it did have its "WHOOPSIES, BUGET RAN OUT" moments, and it did have to delay rhe final episodes, I still loved it.
Same Full Dive was stupid but actually somehow nice to watch. I also really liked Standing on a Mio. Lives. I know it was not thaat good but I found it very interesting and looked forward to the episodes. Hopefully they will finish the story in the future.
I enjoyed Reincarnated as a slime. But, I was more excited and enjoyed every bit of Musho Tensei. It is the best series I have seen in a long time. I was about to say it's not or rather around the same kind of interest level as Houseki no Kuni. The thing is that they both share the same composer. The wonder and mystery and world-like music was the reason why I also felt like these were amazing for the immersion, alongside both of their amazing animations and story. If I recognize the music, then the series made enough of an impact for me to remember it. Unfortunately, among those series you listed, I do remember the E-rated fantasy series you listed. That series was amazingly AWKWARD to watch. I did force myself to watch it through of its entirety and I honestly noticed the character growing up. Unfortunately, it took a while for him to actually mature a tad bit, enough to make him all right. But, their jokes are pretty trash.
I think the anime did Standing on a Million Lives dirty a little bit. The real draw I have to its story in the manga is how deep it goes into the psychological aspect of the character's decision making. The anime just kinda brushes over it, even more so in s2 than s1.
With Arcane, I watched it a second time with my younger brother who's currently going to school in LA for screenwriting. We had several thorough discussions and his opinion (story-wise) was this: the first act was one of the greatest not only in animation but in all of television. The second act has some iffy pacing in the middle and didn't allow the third to have the time it needed to fully blow our socks off. Overall still a 9+/10, but they needed just a bit more time 2/3 through the show to make it a 10/10. Ep.4 was great, but Ep.5 tripped up for a split second. If anyone has questions on this or has a different opinion, I welcome it and will grab my brother's notes and post them here.
I’m really interested in screen writing and writing in general if he has any tips or notes that you’re fine with sharing then that would be really cool

Isn't this a spoiler? The anime is not even at vol 7 of the LN
@@oolongTea295 I mean it kinda is but also not really, since anime-onlies will have no idea what he is talking about
The one about the kid in the boonies is actually more frustrating.
Because you forget one thing:
It's because he's the weakest in his village. He literally grew around people much stronger than he was, and that affected his personality.
@@Kaimax61 Doesn't make it less annoying after everyone keeps telling him that he's stronger than people outside of his village and he doesn't learn.

That mashuko tensei rant is honestly valid. Because if what people were saying was true, then everybody who watched Dexter would support serial killers and death penalty.
death penalty is already supported though?
@@AlejandroRodriguez-cy8ee but not by everyone that watches the show.
@@Tehn00bA oh that's what you meant.

It was a pretty funny show definitely deserves at least low C
Garnt making the same mistake as with overly Cautious hero: I watched 2 episodes they seem to be going to follow a generic trend therefore it is shit. Like bruh, how on Earth is Full Dive generic, he just assumed he was gonna get kirito'd into the game.
And with Overly Cautious he got to chapter 4 saw the character was strong and thought he was gonna remain and undefeateable OP Mc with no background. Sigh

Video Title: "I Watched EVERY Isekai Anime in 2021"
Garnt: "Okay, so I didn't watch EVERY isekai anime in 2021..."

@@DarthPoyner by Tensei you mean Mushoku Tensei?

The series legit had the best opening of the season for me, both visually and musically.
Isn't Arcane literally the lore of Jinx and the others on Arcane?

It makes me happy that Slime got the recognition and placed higher than Mushoku... well deserved! :D
When you look at the story as a whole,
Mushoku Tensei feels like
"the side quest adventure of Rudi who meets lots of people for 2 episodes and then leaves and forgets to be epic and do cool magic even tho he could, we saw it in episode 3 when he was like 5, omg he is so strng do something doooo something"
and Slime feels like
"Rimuru plays Minecraft in creative mode, Age of Empires with cheats and Civilisation against noobs and he is really good at it. Then there's also politics with the characters that were introduced in season 1. And he is a geniune badass and flexes hard when he has to"
That said, Mushoku Tensai has far better animations and way more fluid sword fighting than Slime.
Interesting fan fiction.

Someone finally respected spider isekai. While it did have its "WHOOPSIES, BUGET RAN OUT" moments, and it did have to delay rhe final episodes, I still loved it.
Full Dive was a guilty pleasure that I actually really enjoyed. Seeing it in E tier kinda hurt, although it was probably deserved
Same Full Dive was stupid but actually somehow nice to watch.
I also really liked Standing on a Mio. Lives. I know it was not thaat good but I found it very interesting and looked forward to the episodes. Hopefully they will finish the story in the future.
Mushoku Tensei being S tier while Full Dive is e is fucking bs.
I think in the stream he actually mistook full dive for a different isekai, definitely above e-tier imo.
@@Wizard-pw8yo I still don't understand his obsession with mushoku tensei.
@@88-32 He's made several videos on the matter, so I guess you can watch them for your answer XD
There is no shot that Garnt finished 'so I'm a spider so what', the last few episodes were terrrrrible.
The mushoku tensei haters remind me of these peoples who think berserk fans are rapist because there is violence in the manga
would love to see one for a Mecha Tier List, I might actually know the shows that you judge this time
No
Have there been enough mecha recently to even make a tier list?
@@warpuppy4528 I believe so. How many is the minimum requirement?
@@warpuppy4528 I meant "all time" not just 2021, unless he already did that
Imagine not watching every isekai anime start to end.
@@fen9007 yeah, sure thing. I'll ask him some tips.
@@jacobbaumgardner3406 thanks bro you’re epic

have you heard of god grid?
