@@Justanotherconsumer I see. I don't necessarily agree though. I think there is an emphasis on loving your neighbor and your enemy, but I don't agree there is an emphasis on peace. You should let us just talk to other white people and slowly over generations you'll get what you want." I've never heard them once say that the George Floyd protests were too violent as was the habit of some modern day white moderates. In fact I don't believe I've ever heard them try to give any advise to the black community. They've only chastised their own, defended the actions of the black community against other white evangelicals, admitted that they and their families have been part of the problem, and let black people speak for themselves when they were on the podcast. If you go back to the podcast episodes from around 2012-2016, I think you have a better argument. I think they slowly had their eyes opened when Trump became president, which is certainly a very white moderate thing to do. They've missed the essence of the founder conundrum. The founders were great men, partly because they read and studied intensely many of the great philosophers that were concerned with virtue, integrity, and the right way to live a life. No, they were unable to live those aspirational standards but the insights did go into the Constitution. The Constitution is not given proper credit. Only in the return of fugitive slaves, does the Constitution side with slavery. The other clauses that deal with slavery are involved in phasing out an ugly institution. Otherwise, there is no mention of race and no inference of limitations based on race. There is only one passage dealing with gender, and that's an offhand assumption that the president would be male. Nor are there passages demanding religious conformity or binary gender roles. The Constitution is a nearly clean document. Our problem is not the Constitution, it's the bigoted, sexist Supreme Court, the bigoted, sexist legislators, the bigoted, sexist congress people, and the bigoted, sexist populace. No document, regardless of how wondrous it may be, can survive that level of corruption. On the other hand, Skye and David again beat around the bush. Theology is hideously deformed. You will never get good results (equality, etc) if your core beliefs rest on grotestque doctrines. Bad fruit from a bad tree. People that actually practice Love Your Neighbor are not the ones demanding segregated lunch counters or storming the seat of government. Good fruit from a good tree. The lack of nuance is a direct result of defective education that does not teach the function and history of freedom of religion. The religious charlatans took over that niche. Predictably, we have problems that may now be insurmountable. We honor the people who contributed to our nation. Jefferson, Madison, and Washington made solid contributions and should be honored for them, even as we acknowledge their severely flawed humanity. What did Robert E Lee contribute, aside from death and division? What insights did Jefferson Davis leave to posterity? What in their legacy is there to honor? Confederate statues belong in a setting comparable to the Holocaust Museum. They should be understood as embodiments of the great evil that can be done in the name of defective doctrine.

The verbiage used implies a singular use of man and woman, not plural. Not to mention that 1 of Paul's requirements for leadership in the church was for a man to have 1 wife (1 timothy 3). How do u explain this??

It's highly interesting to me that David reckons there are, in fact, four 'parties' within America (far left, centre left, centre right and far right). South Africa just had its elections and finally after 30 years, a country run by a party that received the majority at every election, it has come to a point where it now needs to form a coalition government. One politican said: This is what creates a 'true democracy', where the interests of several people can be fairly represented. The odd thing is: One would have expected this to happen in the U.S. at some point, but it never happend. I wonder whether you could highlight this and whether you see a future with more parties than just the main two?!
Skye I really enjoy your devotionals. I ultimately don't care who wins this upcoming election as Jesus is my reigning King and I'm obedient to His commands. With that said, we've seen what both men (and their administrations) stand for. I want to love my kids/grandkids (and others as well) by having them live in an amazing country. One "that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way" (1 Tim 2:2) so that all people may be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. It boggles my mind though how a person can support a candidate (administration) who erodes the very fabrics of this country--ruining the economy, canceling personal freedoms (by forcing vaccines or risk losing your job, or forcing "all-electric" for upon us--cars/heating/stoves/etc), rushing into wars instead of being a peacemaker, promoting brainwashing/propaganda by censoring media companies, distorting what God made as a male or female, using corrupt "justice" to silence your political opponent, and bringing division instead of unity all for the love of power. I'm sorry, but I can handle some harsh, truthful tweets for my great, great grandkids to come to the knowledge of the true King.
“Peace in our time” has a bit of a legacy. Both Putin and Netanyahu are warmongers looking to advance their political careers by the misery of others. Looking the other way and letting the traveler bleed is not the Good Samaritan’s example. So much of this post borders on false witness though that I have serious doubts.
The point about Trump being a martyr is spot on. My friends and I never vote, but we are all gonna vote for trump this time. We all know that both sides are corrupt, both sides are morally bankrupt, both sides play politics, but trying to jail your political opponents is what 3rd world countries do. Hush Money payments? What the hell does that even mean? 😅😅
I don't think you understand what is going on with the trial. The indictment was reached using a grand jury of his peers with the oversight of a judge, looking at the evidence against him. The conviction was reached unanimously by a jury of his peers under the oversight of a judge looking at both the evidence against him and his lawyers' defense against that evidence. Now maybe one or both judges allowed or disallowed something to happen that altered the case, and Trump will appeal and it will be looked at in other courts. But the process is hardly at the whim of one person or even a group of Democrats. The Grand Jury portion has also happened in 3 other instances: the documents case (federal, taking place in Florida), the election interference case (state level in Georgia), and the Jan. 6th case (federal, taking place in DC). None of those cases appear to be ready to take place before the election. If your contention is that other politicians commit crimes that don't get pursued, then that is hardly a reason to not convict Trump; it's just a reason to go after more politicians (or maybe the crimes that you think have been committed are at the very least harder to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt in court). If you want some examples of Democratic politicians who have been indicted and/or convicted of crimes, here are 3 examples off the top of my head: Bob Menendez (not yet tried), Rod Blagojevich (convicted, pardoned by Trump), and Anthony Weiner (convicted).
Thanks to you two! You are like a breath of fresh air and a beacon of common sense to me. Keep it up please! Sometimes I feel like I’m going insane living where I do.

You're free to vote your conscious, but Trump hasn't been "winning" since 2018. Because of MAGA, congress flipped blue in the 2018 midterms and he lost both the popular vote & electoral college in 2020. His dozens of election fraud lawsuits were all thrown out of court (many by judges he appointed). His MAGA candidate endorsements botched what was supposed to be a "red wave" in 2022. And he is now a felon who was also liable of sexual abuse. Again, vote your conscious, but just know he's not "winning".
Worse and more divisive than Trump. Goodness gracious, dude. Biden is bland and vanilla. The only way, that I can think of, that you can think he's really that bad is if you are just absolutely planted in the right wing media bubble. I can understand people voted for Trump in 2016, I even get people who voted for him in 2020, but people who vote for him after January 6th, after he took all those classified documents and tried to refuse to give them back, after he told the Republicans to kill the border bill. After project 2025 is known about ... Holy smokes you can't deal with an old guy who trips some times? You'd rather have a guy who would be a dictator if he could and has plans to try. You have absolutely blown my mind.

@@jahbern Yes. They see him as a culture war warrior. That he will accomplish some of the outcomes that the culture wars are seeking. But they forget that the love of God is necessary for any Christian endeavor. For God so loved the world. And without the love of God it is not Christian. What I really believe is happening is the separation of the wheat and the tares. Those who bear the fruit of love and those who do not.
They want someone who will purposely harm the blacks and the gays. They don't care about democracy or morals.
@jahbern so I absolutely agree with you, but here's the question; what exactly do these kind of Christians think will happen? How long do they think they will be able to sustain any form of control? Speaking for myself who is still figuring things out, evangelicals in my mind have absolutely no integrity or character. I have no reason to listen to absolutely anything that anyone from that camp says... and I know that I'm not the only one. How exactly do they think they will hold onto control with absolutely no integrity, character or reason to believe them?
@@michaeldunigan1067 i agree completely. And I think that separation has always been happening. The tares have just been motivated to behave themselves before so they could reap the benefits of looking like wheat in the church. They don’t have to pretend anymore to be accepted within the church. So they don’t. I don’t blame them. If I didn’t feel compelled by the love of Christ to love my neighbors and no one expected me to, I wouldn’t waste my energy either.
I keep hearing philosophy, but little direct true. Nothing on the genocide in Gaza. Nothing about the removal of Black history.
Skye just got back from Israel/ Palestine 2 days ago, so that's definitely coming, and they've been taking about it on the podcast and in guest interviews pretty much since the attack in October. The Holy Post in general has been talking about race in America and in the Church for years. True though, they didn't talk about those things in this specific interview.
@@nothanks6549they’ve been talking about in a way that’s typical fragility though - lacking the humility to recognize that they are not the solution, they are the problem.

@@nothanks6549if you’re familiar with the source of that reference (King’s letter from jail in Birmingham) and apply King’s arguments to what you see here the similarities should be apparent.
There’s very much a focus on peace rather than on addressing the underlying issues that are leading to the disturbance of that peace.
@@Justanotherconsumer I see. I don't necessarily agree though. I think there is an emphasis on loving your neighbor and your enemy, but I don't agree there is an emphasis on peace. From what I understand, what King was talking about were white "moderates" who would say things like "we agree that black people aren't treated fairly, but you're causing too much trouble. You should let us just talk to other white people and slowly over generations you'll get what you want."
I've never heard them once say that the George Floyd protests were too violent as was the habit of some modern day white moderates.
The Palestine situation, they do talk a little more about peace, but not in a "stop causing trouble" way. I think they just are concerned with so many man lives being lost.
That's my take. I'm open to the idea that I could be wrong. Everything is said in love. Look forward to hearing back from you if want to respond.
Can a Supreme Court Justice bring their own case before the Court? How does that work?
However our "betters" want it to work.
19:56 the weird thing is under Christian nationalism Alito wouldn’t be able to blame his wife.
I cannot abide either party but I'm so glad to finally see Christians speaking rationally about who Trump really is.
Clarence Thomas is compromised, too. Take them both off & you're back to an odd number. Problem solved.
Let's not forget that all of the Trump picks lied under oath during their confirmation, and that Amy Coney Barrett couldn't name the five freedoms provided by the first amendment when she was asked to do so.
I have even seen memes comparing the trial of Jesus to Trump's trial. 😞

Good afternoon from the beautiful SF Bay Area. Thanks for another worthwhile conversation. I think the terrible virus affecting the Radical Religious Right is still too dug in to be able to recognize their folly. What is your source for the claim that there isn't a humanitarian crisis south of the US-Mexico border?
@move_i_got_this5659how was Trump going to take out the cartels?
Alito is Catholic.
I wonder if, in every other situation, when he & the Mrs are at a crossroads, if he has had, & believes, the husband is the head of the family & thus has final say.
I think voters who were on the edge of voting might see this as the final straw in them deciding not to vote. They may not vote Democrat, but I think a verdict for a lot of people will only cause more people to dip out.
“I am wearing my own hat,” Skye says while wearing a literal black hat.
Skye- you gonna let David talk?
I noticed that most of ur scriptural references are OT references. How do u justify polygamy when Jesus (Son Of God, 2nd In The Trinity, The Visible image of The Father) reaffrims the Genesis model of marriage that "a man leaves his mother and father, clings to his wife and they become 1 flesh" (Mathew 19:5-6). The verbiage used implies a singular use of man and woman, not plural. Not to mention that 1 of Paul's requirements for leadership in the church was for a man to have 1 wife (1 timothy 3). How do u explain this??
Such a great episode. Praying for David's wife and her full recovery.
I think it’s a real toss up this November, I think as Trump’s base becomes more angry and extreme, the smaller that base becomes. It’s been a while since I checked, but the percentage of Americans who claim to be Republican has decreased since Trump’s first presidency.
👏
I couldn't help but notice you were both wearing black hats....😂 (i am only amused, it's irrelevant to your point)
Absolutely wonderful episode. Thank you.
I grew up in Tulsa in the late 80s early 90s and we learned about the Tulsa Race Massacre in 6th grade. We watched a series on PBS named “Eyes on the Prize”

Thanks for this great segment!
Great talk.
Actual footage of David French acknowledging fascist dogwhistles! Whoa! 🫡
It's amazing! Maybe they'll actually recognize MAGA as the fascist movement that it is.
Thank you
The point about Trump being a martyr is spot on. My friends and I never vote, but we are all gonna vote for trump this time. We all know that both sides are corrupt, both sides are morally bankrupt, both sides play politics, but trying to jail your political opponents is what 3rd world countries do. Hush Money payments? What the hell does that even mean? 😅😅
Do you actually want to know? Do you even care?
So you’re voting for a man who has said, out loud, on TV, that he intends to go after his political opponents once he’s elected as revenge?
Thanks to you two! You are like a breath of fresh air and a beacon of common sense to me. Keep it up please! Sometimes I feel like I’m going insane living where I do.

Trump is winning because Biden has proven himself to be worse and even more divisive. I skipped voting for Trump and voted 3rd party in 16 and 20, but I’m seriously considering voting for him just to get Biden out.
How has Biden been worse and more divisive than Trump?
