Fun fact with the Mario addon: the reason it works so well (and requires a rom of the original game to work) is because it is utilizing a direct rip of the game's source code, which was fully dumped and cleaned up a couple years ago. Thanks to the work of the modders that cleaned up the code, it's possible to port N64 Mario and his physics into any game that supports it. There are mods out and about that add N64 Mario to Minecraft, Sonic Generations, Blender as a 3D view mode, a playable AR game, and more. The process of installation is extremely easy now, but it can't be understated the amount of time and effort that was needed for that to even be possible.
minor correction - it wasn’t dumped, it was decompiled. that being the process of rewriting the assembly code from the game into readable C++ code. This decompiled code was used for the PC port most notably, but they also used the said code to create a library called libSM64.

The last thing I would have expected to get when I clicked on the thumbnail of GMan Mario was an almost full cover of the Snake Eater theme that goes way too hard. Another amazing video as usual, but extra kudos for going and getting that made.
Dude I was listening to the Snake Eater part, thinking "huh this sounds like a slightly different version from the original" and was completely caught off guard when I heard her sing Ratlobber instead Snake Eater.
Gmod most definitely DOES have locational damage as a HL2 source derived mod. It's just not the kind that goes "Headshot = Death" unless it's a metrocop with the default pistol, they're programmed to die to that because HL2 does that.
As a certified source engine gamer, the movement in Fallout has always slightly bugged me. I wish there was a mod that added source-like movement to fallout
As much as i LOVE FO3 and FNV, yeah the movement is absolutely god awful. I think we can all agree that while FO3/FNV play like ass, yet have incredibly fun RPG systems, story, and characters that make them timeless. Whereas for FO4 it's the complete opposite. I think it plays incredibly well, yet by far has the weakest RPG story. Companions are EXTREMELY well done though! 2 steps forward 2 steps back, classic Bethesda.

I..um...yeah no, there's no "used to" I still do that to this day. It's a very intrinsic childhood feeling to want to do stuff like this. It's what definitely got me into game design on some level.

Wish the stealth system allowed you to make enemies surrender when pointing them with a gun in the back. Also the "I'm still in a dream, ratlobber" caught me so off guard lmao

You should definitely try this concept again sometime, its quite interesting seeing how you turn Gmod into an entirely different game. If you do ever make another video like this again may I recommend you try to recreate Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, or Doom?
Hi, maintainer of Stealth 2.1 here. Firstly, thank you! HL2 (and by extension gmod) does have some rudimentary stealth, but as you said, it's pretty weak. When you said the mod checks for your clothes to determine visibility, what actually counts is the player entity's color values (even if your model doesn't support custom colors). I did think of adding disguises, like in [PROTOTYPE] or Hitman. Currently checking how much of a headache that's gonna be, lol

This was a really fun watch! I have a strong interest in this sort of thing myself - that is, modding a game to try and replicate the mechanics, aesthetic, and feel of some other game. It's so endlessly fascinating the kinds of results you can get when you pull a game's mechanics out of the context they were designed for and stick them somewhere new, overwriting that new context's intended mechanics and such too. I don't know if you plan on doing any more videos like this, but if you by chance do, one addon I can't recommend strongly enough is the Prime SWEP, which expertly recreates everything about Samus's powersuit from Metroid Prime in GMod. (I may also be a little bit biased because I myself have made a handful of extension add-ons that add in extra details like enemies dropping Metroid Prime's health/ammo pickups or recreating the control scheme of its Wii port... But only a little biased, because the original addon really is incredible and deserving of praise as-is!!!)
Addons are the best and worst thing about gmod today. It's awesome for single player but goes crazy pretty easy on servers. + You have all the addons in the world and can do pretty much anything which is great. - Joining a server (I've even seen this on sandbox) expecting simplicity and having to download several gigs of content just to figure out you joined some kind of portal level with error models everywhere and you need to contact staff to get out of this hell hole.
I feel called out I used to try and remake Splatoon in Gmod & I spent hours in every map, I couldn't afford the real thing but I learned how that If I shot the squid bag things they explode...so that was fun.

The great thing about GMod isn't that it can do these things; it's that it provides a platform where low-level and high-level customisation and modding can be combined and shared with ease. It bridges the gap between the skills needed to make sourcemods (maps, models, scripts, etc.), and the skills needed to place props on top of one another.
