    Lies of p apparently did so well that they announced a sequel so we'll be playing the sequel to it in no time hopefully I played the entire game and beat it and it is probably one of the greatest shows like kind of games I've ever played they did a very good job with it, seriously there's another Studio out there that actually can make good Souls like games not saying the other Studios don't do a good job but when it comes to Studios that perfectly copy Dark Souls in the formula the creators of this game did a very good job

    Ok I had no idea that Lords of the Fallen was a new version of the old game, I thought it was just like the old game getting a steam release or something dumb like that. I had no idea it was like revamped. I noticed a bunch of content creators playing it suddenly and I definitely found that odd but I didn’t think much about it, I kept moving. This is stunning to find out

    • @MightyMelvo
      @MightyMelvo  Місяць тому +1

      Well, instead of calling it Lord of the Fallen 2 or something they, for some odd reason, decided to name it EXACTLY like the first game lmao.
      The new one is pretty decent, especially with all the new patches.

    Jedi Fallen Order and Remnant were my introductions to the souls genre, so I have some deep love for those titles. I'd also add that I think The Surge 2 could be a good starting spot.
    Also, I'd say what I feel like is one of the hardest things about getting someone into DS1 was the boss run backs, which could be brutal in Dark Souls but have all been eliminated by Elden Ring. Also speed of combat is remarkedly different from DS 1 to DS3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, Lies of P, etc. Still it's a great masterpiece and should be played, but maybe after a few others unless the first-timer is really committed.

    As a new soulsborne gamer and for developing the mindset of "parrying/soulsborne gamer" , I highly suggest playing these 2 games:
    - Code Vein
    - Steel Rising
    CV might be slightly difficult but you will always get an AI companion who can help you kill monsters. I learned to Parry in Code Vein.
    Steel Rising is definitely the easiest soulsborne and the best entry level game for getting yourself a glimpse into the Soulsborne genre.
    I'm playing both of these games and have helped me to shape my skills, tho I'm not a soulsborne try hard but now I can defend myself.
    Once I finish these games, I will play Wu Hong & Dark Souls remake, hopefully around Holidays, I would be ready to jump in on Elden Ring or Bloodborne.
    So, that's my path for playing soulsborne genre.

    For me the entry point is Nioh. Bought all FromSoftware games, either stuck at the beginning or not really motivated to explore after the beginning. Tried Mortal Shell and really didn't get the point, same with Remnant, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's platforming felt really confusing for its physical engine, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's career system felt too grindy - these 4 came with PS Plus.
    But man Nioh got me hooked. The starting fishing village took me dozens (if not 100) tries, the butterfly lady and Nue killed me probably equal times, but the fairness of the combat system made everything a progress, no matter you came out an encounter dead or alive (there's a pun here). Most of all, it taught me patience in playing these games, like you mentioned many times in the video. I'm not too bothered by the many mechanics, since you can always search for suggestion or just experiment. I'm around the 1/3 point now, and already bought Nioh 2.
    BTW, The Surge 1& 2 are also awesome, cutting mechanic is really fun. They're on sale now on Epic Store, $5 and $8 respectively for complete edition (base game and all DLCs). This round of sales ends 0801, but these two are on sale more often than not.
    Performance wise, Nioh and The Surge were released in 2017, runs buttery on my 1650 laptop. The Surge 2 has some crashing issues, but when it works it's very smooth. Nioh 2 is a bit more demanding, but low settings 1080p still runs high 50s and fine by me.

    Now that Black Myth Wukong is out, I’d recommend that one as a starter. Some of the bosses have been really hard, but there’s only dodging and no blocking, so it’ll get you really good at that. Then when you move onto a soulsborne game, you’ll have mastered dodging and can now master parrying and blocking. Wukong is great, though! I wanta try Nioh or Lies of P after.

    I know you said you didn’t play it but something to note that makes Code vein a great intro to souls like is it’s a great teacher on how the souls build system works, you have prebuilt stat spreads that you can slot in and out (rather points its a scaling system so from E rank to S+) allowing you to quickly switch between builds VERY easily, and it’s a good teacher on “ok this is what a strength build would play like, this is a caster build, tank, dodge tank, dex build” so on and so fourth and gives you a good feel not only how the build feels but how you are exposed to build such builds with what the scaling stat spreads showcase, i remeber my first soulsborne where me being an idiot not know what to do tried to spread all my level ups equally among ALL stats

    From playing through an absolute ton of Soulslikes, the only games that make me forget I'm essentially playing a copy of a game are Nioh 2 and Lies of P. Both of them are excellent games on their own and I'd happily play them multiple times over. Games like Mortal Shell are ok if you've played lots of other Souls games and want something different but it leaves me wishing I was playing the real thing.

      That's a huge problem for me with souls like. The way From Soft has kept the combat simple yet to meaningful and impactful. And there is a perfect learning curve. The game gives you all the tools. It is up to you how to utilize them properly.

  • @grogueQ
    @grogueQ 5 місяців тому +1

    I agree with almost everything you said and I really like the way you explained in detail the advantages and disadvantages of each game. My one disagreement is Dark Souls as a starter. I agree that it's harder to go back and play after the other ones, but it is so noob unfriendly, and I don't think any of today's gamers are going to have the patience for figuring things out. When I played it back in 2011 I quit twice, the first time right after I got out of the undead asylum and realized I could barely level up. And the stat pages and menu are complete and utter nonsense at the beginning. So my suggestion if you're going to play Dark Souls 1, don't be afraid to look things up on the internet, you might get some spoilers but there's some stuff I don't even know how anybody figured out on their own.

    • @MightyMelvo
      @MightyMelvo  5 місяців тому

      Hello there! All valid points you've got and I appreciate the perspective. Stat pages in most Fromsoftware games will most likely make absolutely no sense to beginners but I feel like if I have to pick one of the souls games to recommend to a beginner, it has to be DS1 (could be DS3 as well, it's way more straightforward in terms of direction). I just think no other game will teach you or help you figure out stat pages anyways, you kinda have to do it one way or another if you want to continue playing and because of that I think DS1 could be your best shot. I'm 100% not trying to devalue your points and I totally agree that new players shouldn't be afraid to look things up if they are stuck or confused.
      Some off topic: I checked out your channel too and I liked it a lot. As a guitar player myself I find your videos very inspirational. Cheers!

    I've wanted to get into soulslikes for quite a while and found dark souls 1 and elden ring quite overwhelming, I've been playing the 2014 version of lords of the fallen and it is significantly more forgiving, wouldn't recommend for seasoned players but if you're new it'll really help, now I'm looking forward to jumping into something abit more complex

  • @triedtime9573

    LOTF is one of my favorite souls likes. I really like the dark look of the world's, the armor and overall art style of the game. it's got forgiving rolls and s which I wasn't sure about at first, but feels good with aggressive mobs the game throws at you. The new in game modifiers are good fun as well. Towards the end of a new game plus run now. I have put double the amount of hours into Lords than I put into LOP. LOP had some cool mechanics and I really enjoyed the majority of the boss design and had some forgiving parry windows that were satisfying to hit. I tried to be open minded to the story, but I just couldn't get into the whole Pinocchio thing, but still a fun game for me. Can't wait to see what they hinted at the end. 🤞 Interesting concept

    • @MightyMelvo
      @MightyMelvo  4 місяці тому

      It's a weird thing. I like LoP better, I think it's objectively a better game (very high quality, extremely polished) but still, I spent more time playing LOTF haha. I like the overall aesthetics of LOTF better.

  • @FlyingFox86
    @FlyingFox86 5 місяців тому

    What you said about Sekiro's combat, "once it clicks, it clicks for good", is so very true. Even picking it up again years later, I can still "win" the first fight with Genichiro you are supposed to lose. There is no other souls game where this is the case.
    Edit: and I would recommend it for beginners as much as any of the other games. Playing a Dark Souls game or Elden Ring isn't going to help anyone be better at Sekiro, it's too different.

    • @MightyMelvo
      @MightyMelvo  5 місяців тому

      That's right, your DS experience is irrelevant in Sekiro and will actually get you in trouble. (I think a lot of DS vets couldn't get into Sekiro because they were trying to play it as if it was a Souls game lol). I just think Sekiro requires a whole different level of dedication, precision, stellar reaction and it could be very intimidating for people who are not familiar with a punishing and unforgiving nature of games like this. Still totally playable and beatable if it's your first game! Cheers mate

    Steelrising was my intro into this genre. It has that assist mode to ease you into everything which is completely optional. The first game I actually tried was Bloodborne and hated it. Then months later I tried Steelrising, and had a lot of fun with it. From there, I moved onto Remnant and Lies of P. I tried Demons Souls, but just wasn't getting into it. Story and theme are important to me, and the whole medieval thing just isn't for me. I may return to Bloodborne at some point, though, if we ever get 60 fps.

  • @ReadyAimFire_
    @ReadyAimFire_ Місяць тому

    I think its best to start where it all started- with Demons souls or Darks souls 1. Whichever you choose will probably be the hardest, but following ones will be easier, as you will know and understand mechanics. After you play all FROM souls and Bloodborne (imo their best game), you can try Sekiro (which is different than souls) or games from other companies.
    My top non From souls games: Nioh 2, Remnant series, Mortal shell, Hellpoint, new Lotf, Steelrising. And if you like 2D platformers: Hollow knight, Salt and sanctuary, Ender lillies, Blasphemous, Grime.

    • @MightyMelvo

    The list seems to contain a "see if you can spot the errors" quiz. Here's the two games that don't belong to this list:
    - Thymesia's first boss is a hefty road block, the game mechanics is clunky and the game is so short that it ends before you got the hang of its combat system. This is absolutely not a good entry point for noobs.
    - Wo Long's bosses are tough as nails, absolutely unbalanced. Not beginner friendly by any stretch of the imagination.
    The rest of the list is ok. *Jedi Fallen Order* would be my recommendation for a first Soulslike. It's the easiest of the list but still very engaging. Elden Ring was my first Soulsborne and is great for noobs who are ok with doing some research online. Demon's Souls can be a good entry point too for some people since the bosses are so easy. The boss runs themselves are sometimes rough but don't demand much skill, only concentration.

    The newer God Of War should be included. I used to absolutely haaaaaaate this sub genre until God Of War (2018) forced me to learn to play this type of game. Before then, I tried Nioh. Hated it. Never touched it again until after God Of War. Now, Nioh is one of my favorite games. Obviously Nioh 2 is better 😂

      As a die hard Elden Ring fan, I respect your opinion. Elden Ring imo is one of the best games ever, but it's not for everyone. Regarding Lies of P, it's such a phenomenal game, I really enjoyed it after beating Elden Ring and Sekiro, it was like the mix of these two. The game has Elden Ring's level of amazing cool bosses and art direction, very similar great level progression, build variety, dodging and stance mechanics combined with Sekiro's infamous parry system. Imo Lies of P is on par with Fromsoft games. I would go as far as to say Lies of P has even higher quality than DS3 and Bloodborne, it bests those 2 in some many different ways

    Thank you for the video! Although I do noy agree with many of the games listed LOL.
    7- Mortal Shell stinks imo, not good at all;
    6 - Thymesia I droped too early to say anything;
    5 - Remnant is dope! Awesome games. Quite different from the average soulslike, but that's the charm;
    4 - Wo Long is a game that I do not hate. I think it is OK. But is not a good entry point by any means imo, because it barely shows the best that genre has to offer. You just go there chasing flags over and over again till you max it and then you fight a boss... the lore is kinda meh, level design nothing to write home about, I don't really remember any music from the game, and even the combat is kinda weird sometimes (far worse than Nioh btw);
    3 - Lords of the Fallen is not bad. I dropped it because I felt there were better games releasing at the time, but I plan to revisit one day. The game reminded me a lot of Dark Souls 2 though, which is my least favorite soulsborne;
    2 - Fallen Order is pretty good. But I don't get it why call it soulslike, it make as much sense as saying that Hollow Knight is soulslike LOL. That game feels more like a natural evolution of The Force Unleashed than anything else.
    1 - I could not argue with any of those 3 recommendations. I would probably say they are the best entry point to the genre for anyone. Lies of P, Sekiro and Nioh are really great, as you said, and I would agree they may not be the ideal entry point to the genre.
    in the end, I would say that starting with FromSoftware game is the best thing to do, because they are quite good. They nail many thing that many other souslike don't. After them (and that may take quite a while) I would go to Lies of P, Remnant and Nioh.

      I agree with that starting with FS games is a way to go. They have this magic to them others only try to replicate and most fail. Also it's nice to experience all the mechanics in their original form, so to speak 😀 Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your perspective, dude!

    Honestly I hate Demons Souls but I adore all the other from FromSoftware game (except Dark Souls 2, haven’t played it yet) mechanic are terrible and I’m even talking about in the remake so it doesn’t get a pass you just kinda have to guess when the enemy is gonna attack because you won’t dodge until 10 seconds later. Can’t stand Demons Souls I want my inputs to respond to what I put into my controller and the other games do that very well
