    Great series. I love watching native fish being caught in their original drainages. I have been on a quest since I retired to catch brookies in all of the states where brook trout were originally found. Your videos inspire me to get out there and try harder.

    Not to scare you, but I learned the hard way when I moved out west and started fishing those rural areas…. Washington has a huge mountain lion population. You think of grizzly bears in Montana / Wyoming, but you gotta respect the cougars in the PNW! The are you were in has regular closings due to lion activity.

    Beautiful, a wetter version of tiny creek fishing in the Rocky Mountain foothills and Eastern Slopes, SW of Calgary. Took a 6 year old and his dad bushwhacking down a perfect cutthroat stream while bikepacking earlier this summer. Absolutely epic son and dad moments, plus loads of brutal rod navigation through the trees and willows.

    The magic land where a 10 inches is a trophy for a resident trout! It can be disheartening for the new angler to the area to not spot big fish in those spring fed sections. Good job on finding this waterfall.
    Like you did, fishing streamers and big dries is the way to filter through little ones. Probably coho, chinook and steelhead fry in the mix.

    Western Washington is a tough place to trout fish if you're looking for anything of size. The best consistent trout fishing is in alpine lakes or above impassible waterfalls where trout populations don't have to compete with salmon, steelhead, coastal cutthroats, and bull trout. There are some low elevation lakes that have some decent trout fishing too. The fun of fishing in western Washington is that there are so many different runs of fish from the ocean to these little streams. Spring chinook, summer steelhead, early fall coastal cutthroats, fall chinook/coho/pink/chum/sockeye salmon, late fall bull trout, winter steelhead...the not so fun part is navigating the labyrinth of regulations to make sure you're not in a closed area during these runs.

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  2 місяці тому +1

      That’s what I’ve heard, I may have to check that out next time I’m out there. The regs are very intense, and I learned even if you follow the regs people get upset 😂 there are several other areas of Washington I want to explore so we’ll see what I run into then!
