Controversial take coming….NOTHING but respect to Bobby, but the tempo is what’s holding the new wave of dead from coming out. There’s some very talented musicians that wanna breathe new life into the Dead but the old guard slows it down for just old times sake. I love Bobby Weir and everything he has done and will always represent for the Dead. The legend will always be there but there is a new set of Jedi padawans ready to bring the Force into a new age. Billy Strings, Johnny, Otiel and the crew are ready to dawn a new age of dead-I masters. Let there be songs to fill the air 🙌
what a cool thing, what a cool setting...can barely hear Weirs guitar, Mayer carrying the musical load...love Weir, he is a super player in a band setting but his style of playing in a situation like this seems to require more "chunka chunka chunka", as Garcia once said of him
I agree. I play and was really turned on to how good Weirs playing really was when there was that doc about him. But trying to learn his parts without a band to play with, or even to join, is a waste of time. It’s just parts of chords and little licks that fit in with a band, but solo, playing exactly like Bobby, you can hardly tell what song you’re playing. Listen to some isolated guitar of his. It’s so weird. It’s awesome. But again, without the band you can hardly tell what song they’re playing. That said my favorite eras are largely about Bobby. I loved his early tone in the primal Dead era and also loved- the most- the one drummer/Keith lineup because it was the most audible Bobby was in the band’s mix. You can really hear his McCoy Tyner influence on things like for instance the Veneta Playin in the Band.
@@robertledbetter3799 little triads, inversions and diatonic runs, you can do your own version of that style, which is what I do....sometimes I think he plays too busily, but definitely a big influence

It’s unfortunate that everyone pays money to listen to themselves talk! It’s so bad at concerts now a days and really ruins the show.
So true talking has gotten so bad
Big part of the dead type concerts is the social part of it. Speakers are way louder in person, too.
Just a nod and a smile.

Try listening to the dead jam for 4 and a half hours without smiling and getting more social with the people around you, almost impossible
