Calf rolling is pretty shocking but it works, right? Amazing how much release you can get out of working with releasing the calves. Thank you for joining me! Peace, Aprille
Aprille, this is wonderful! The ironing especially gives instant relief. I've been getting some calf cramps at night and even during the day (don't do if it's from ballet barre classes or just aging) so I searched your site for something like this---and there it was! I did some foam rolling before, but it just seems to give some aggressive pressure and not the smooth rolling out. Can't thank you enough. Just FYI--at about 4:30 you mention the practice was developed by Bernie Sanders---pretty sure you meant Bernie Clark---but in this election season I am sure Bernie would appreciate getting the credit for it! :)
I have just found your channel and am in LOVE! You are my new morning go-to. It may even be my favorite of all the yoga channels I follow! Thank you so, so much for putting this out into the world.
Welcome and THANK YOU for joining me! So glad you are enjoying the practices and let me know if you have any questions! Have a lovely day - Peace, Aprille
When you look up "hurts so good" in the dictionary there's a picture of calf smashing. (Seriously, it is effective!) I visit this vid after almost every step aerobics session I do and notice a difference when I don't. Thank you!
I know, right? I remember when I first learned calf smashing - it was shocking! Now, I cannot imagine life with out for "ironing" out the calves and releasing tightness and reducing discomfort. Thanks for joining me and may your calves be tension free! Peace, Aprille
You are very welcome! I used to work sales for about 5 years and my legs could have used this. Thank you for practicing with me and I hope this helps! Peace, Aprille
I have been practicing this video for a year and it has helped release the tightness in my calves and surprisingly my hamstring. I found your videos during the lockdown and have been practicing with you since. Thanks for the great videos
Really glad the algorithm threw this class my way. I find that a small diameter pool noodle is bulky enough, firm enough, but not too aggressive for my poor old calves! I can also use it for s gentle supported fish, on those days my upper back is feeling extra delicate.
Excellent ideas! I will often roll my towel or blanket the longer way for tender back days as it's a little bit thinner and softer that way too. So glad you joined me and have a GREAT week!
Oh My - Aprille, wow this was astonishing. The foot stretch is intense as stated, so as you always say, it is what we need. Putting the rolled blanket between the knees then moving it down felt (after relaxing into it) so soothing. This is a class I will keep coming back. Your idea for these Yoga Snacks is ingenious and inventive. Having these, gives me no excuse to fit in a bit of Yin. All my thanks!
The calf mashing with the blanket is my favorite calf release! Intense but so nice! I feel you there...the foot stretch is crazy hard. I use this little practice each week for my legs and it's worked wonders. Thank you for sharing your time with me online...i truly appreciate it and I am happy the snacks make Yin easily accessible each day. Sending hugs! Namaste, Aprille
A great idea! I stretch my calves weekly with practices like these and with myofascial release using tennis balls. Makes calves feel SO much better. Peace, Aprille
Hello Aprille, a very good friend recommended this class to me because my calves are so tight from sitting in the long commutes and standing too much. Wow. Just 10 mins and calves and hams feel so much better! Thank you so so much! Have a wonderful day!
So glad she shared this class with you and it worked! I have had tense calves and hamstrings most of my life due to working in a standing job for years and years so I know exactly how you feel. Definitely use this class once a week to keep the opening there and you will feel the difference! Thanks for joining me and have a great day! Peace, Aprille
Good morning Aprille! I just didi this routine at 7:15am after a very hard leg workout. I feel so much better. Thank you so much ! Have a wonderful day!
Good Evening Anna! Thank you so much for joining me online and I am very happy to hear it helped after leg day! Have a wonderful evening and thank you for taking the time to comment and let me know how this worked for you! 🙂 Namaste, Aprille
Someone suggested I try Yin Yoga for stretching after running. I found this video and enjoyed the snack. I have subscribed and look forward to trying more of your routines. I am going to share this video with my running group.
Welcome Aynslie! Thank you for joining me today and I am really happy to hear this practice worked for you. I have several other "snacks" under the playlist Yoga Snack Pantry (along with restorative and yoga) and I hope you enjoy those as well. I do have a practice for runners as well if you are interested in a longer practice. Have a lovely day and thank you for sharing!!! Peace, Aprille ua-cam.com/video/xndnxJqWlt8/v-deo.html
Good morning Yin Lovers! Today's Yin Yoga Snack is for the calves and hamstrings - helping release tension, tightness and pressure and give you relief and opening. Great for those who are on their feet all day and for those wanting to deepen their practice but are inhibited by tightness in the legs! 13 minutes is all you need! Namaste, Aprille
In calf mashing (blanket roll on top of calves and sitting back), your toes can be turned inward or top of feet flat on floor. I prefer my feet flat in most poses because it gives my ankles a deeper stretch but it's just a personal preference. Your toes can cross if that feels better for you. Thanks for joining me and please reach out if you have any more questions! Peace, Aprille
This works wonders on tight calves and feet, great for after standing for hours on end. I have a lot of foot problems so this was tough but also deeply healing. Keep up the great work, Aprille!
Thank you and I hope your feet and legs feel much better. Have you tried my myofascial release classes for feet and lower legs? Rolling out the feet can be a really great way to help them feel better especially if you stand a lot during the day (I have a lot of nurses I work with in my local community who come to yoga and LOVE the foot rollouts).
@@YogaRangerStudio I never realized you had replied! It's amazing. This is one of my go to yoga videos! Happy to join, and the cats are happy to join as well :)
You're so welcome! It does help to do it each week and after a bit, you will find it gets easier and easier as well as the overall mobility of your legs changes for the better. Thank you for joining me today! Peace, Aprille
@@YogaRangerStudio hellooo thank you for your reply! :) I shall take your advice, my left calf has been far too tight over the last year or so! Much to digest and integrate there...slowly slowly....I cannot recall exactly which day I did the exercise last week...I better do it again! :) much love! :)
Thank you again Ms Yoga Ranger! :) Just did this again and can feel the benefits! I need to be consistent and shall schedule it in each week! Thank you soooo much! :)
You're so welcome! I don't have music in any of my videos as I too feel stressed if the music is either too loud or too soft or just not right for that day so I definitely understand. Thank you for joining me today and have a great week! Peace, Aprille
Thank you Aprille another amazing class:) I'm on my feet all day at work I know this practice will help with my pain I come home with most days. I was wondering if you could do a practice for a weak immune system I have had autoimmune illness most of my life and have really been trying to strengthen my immune system back up, but its still very weak:/
Sara, that’s a great practice idea! I will get to work on that this week for release soon! Thank you....I am glad these practices help you feel better and thank you for joining me! I am releasing a few Restorative practices coming in the next few weeks that might help you feel better as well so let me know what you think of those? Peace, Aprille
This was just what I needed after post teaching various classes this week. I do struggle sitting on heels as hurts my knees but will preserve in modified position but feel much better as hammie was tight this morning. Thanks for this and have subscribed for some other ones to try. Namaste
Wonderful! I walk a lot on a regular basis and find this practice is very helpful. I have never heard of ironing out the calves, but wow did mine need it. 😊
Glad it was helpful! When I first did this I was shocked at how much I needed it and to this day, I believe this practice has GREATLY improved my overall leg mobility. Glad it helped and thank you for joining me today. Peace, Aprille
Hello April! I am so happy to hear this practice helps (I too have VERY tight hamstrings and calves). Thank you for joining me again and have a great day! Peace, Aprille
Hello Marleny, I am sorry you are having problems with the sound. There are two ways to increase volume on UA-cam - one is your device (phone, ipad, TV) and another on the UA-cam video screen itself. Try turning the volume up on both of these for better sound clarity. Thanks!
Yoga practices are person dependent so someone might be okay with certain practices and another might find them uncomfortable. Generally, during pregnancy, I suggest you use more props and go only about 50% of your maximum because you have lots of relaxin in your body making it easier to go too deep. Anything that feels uncomfortable, adjust with props or choose an alternative and for twists, twist with far less depth or even barely twist (you have someone making that more challenging and it often won't feel good to twist too far). Make room for your growing belly and enjoy your pregnancy! I do have a Prenatal Yin Yoga practice as well and I have had lots of pregnant mom's say they love doing Yoga Nidra to help calm and relax them whenever they need it. Body scans, progressive relaxation, Yoga Nidra are all great options for rest. As for your question as to how often, if you have very tight calves and hamstrings, this practice could be done 2-3 x a week until you feel more release and then maybe 1-2x a week for maintenance if you know this area is often tightening up. Let me know if you have any questions and congratulations! Peace, Aprile
Okay thanks! I need to incorporate this a couple times a week is that good? My feet are so sore and tight in my calf muscles are so so so so tight! I have no flexibility in my big toes at all and I can feel the crampy tightness in them.
I have myofascial release class for feet and lower legs that might help too. Do what helps you feel better and try a few things to see how they work for you.
Awesome thanks so much!! I did the yin yoga for calves and hamstrings today and it was fantastic! But still feeling really tight so I know I need to do this more then 1X a week.
Oof! Rolling my calves was just what I didn't know I needed. Thanks!!!
Calf rolling is pretty shocking but it works, right? Amazing how much release you can get out of working with releasing the calves. Thank you for joining me! Peace, Aprille

The Yoga Ranger Studio with Aprille Walker Thank you very much! I agree with the nurses: those poses make me feel better
This is the only thing that worked. Thanks for saving my monday.
You are so very welcome and I am glad it helped! Have a great week Kimberly.
Where and what do your toes look like when you are doing this are they pointed so toes are touching or are they supposed to be straight behind you?
