    Polishes remove light scratches in the paint or clear coat, they do not add a coating over the paint. The wax will add a layer of protection, but polish does not.

    Very nice video. There is so much product out there its pretty confusing how to detail a car or bike.
    Also just a little detailers tip: You dont have to and probably shouldn't wax right up to gaps between parts of the bike or dark flat panels like on the FJR. Waxing up to 1/2" to 1" close to gaps, edges or seams is ideal depending on the area. As you wipe off the wax its still spreading ever so slightly and just enough to give full coverage. Nothing looks worse than globs of wax stuck in gaps you just couldn't quite get to. And if you get it on dark satin finishes like on an FJR you will see it once the wax dries and you dont want that either. The more regular you are about cleaning and waxing the easier it is to do in less time because the bike wasn't too grimey to begin with.

    Went to Walmart and bought the products. All I can say is...IT WORKS! I followed the steps as outlined in the video and now my 2014 Ultra shines like never before. Thanks for straight forward instructions on how to really get paint to shine with that super deep luster.

    Brian, let me start by saying I love your videos! Here in Minnesota we are suffering through our unridable winter and it's brutal, watching your sunny beautiful rides makes me excited for spring.
    As a side note I think there is some confusion on what the polish is. It inst a layer you add to the paint, the reason you see any improvement in gloss is because the polish has an abrasive quality that removes faded/scratched clear-coat. You are buffing off 100% of the polish before waxing. The paint wont absorb the polish so there is no benefit to letting it sit on the paint.

    Great video, but correct me if im wrong. I believe polish corrects the paint imperfections, it doesnt add another layer of gloss. Layering wax would add another layer of gloss

    Hi Bryan, just had to let you know how awesome this vid is (along with all your others). I tried out the techniques on my new FJR1300 AE and was still stunned by the difference the claybar and waxing made. I know it's a cliche phrase but my bike really does "Pop" now. We have crappy winters in the UK, but are still able to ride (unlike some of our other viewers out there). The downside is the amount of salt and winter crud that covers our bikes, making cleaning a real chore. I've now spent a few bucks on some "proper" cleaning fluids and cloths and it's made a huge difference to how I look after the finish of my vehicles. I'm ashamed to say that in my 52 years on this planet, I'd never heard of Detailing Spray. Now I will have some in the garage all the time. Steve

    Great video! Lots of detail. I appreciate all of the videos you have produced. What are your thoughts on ceramic-based polishing and sealing products like F-11? Looking for some unbiased input. There are lots of "sponsored" comparison videos out there for one product vs. another... I've used F-11 on my vehicles, and it works well for about a year (one coat)... they recommend "several" coats. Anyway, just wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks again!

    why not wax the chrome?

  • @Audittr2108
    @Audittr2108 5 років тому

    A polish or compound is an abrasive solution that will remove scratches but you don't want to use a polish if not necessary to preserve the thickness of your paint. A polish contains no gloss enhancing or protection whatsoever and will remove fine scratches and clean the paint. "Layering" polish is pointless as it leaves nothing behind. It's just a preparation for your wax or sealant. An all in one product can be the way to go if you have paint is very good condition. Is will be less abrasive than a out and out polish and leaves a little protection ready for your wax or sealant. Also claying your vehicle isn't a one time deal. Even if you wax etc, contaminants will bond to the paint again. Claying will always leave marring so if you clay, you will need to polish again to remove the marring. Use a generous amount of QD or clay lube to reduce the marring as much as possible.

      That's fine for some polishes, that's the whole point of them - but if you do that to a wax...you are doing nothing. If it's not let to set and build a coating...you are just wiping off what was meant to stay on.

    But seriously, great video. I found it very informative. The only thing I do not understand, is if the clay bar is picking up the contaminants, why don't they scratch when you are still rubbing the surface? Please keep up the great videos. While you were showing the difference, I was waiting for you to hit the tank with the camera, scared me a little.

  • @Rockandrollgeerage

    you only use clay bar one time? why not every time you details?

    • @TwoWheelObsession
      @TwoWheelObsession  7 років тому

      Claybars are for pulling contaminate out of the paint. They are primarily there new from the factory but can build up over time in some environments. Once you remove them, you don't have to do it again until any are back. It's not a surface treatment.

    • @onegaisti
      @onegaisti 7 років тому

      That's what waxes are for. To protect your finish so you don't have to clay as often. If you use waxes (or sealants) as often as suggested, you'll find that using clay bars become less necessary after initial claying.

    layer of polish?
    polish REMOVES layers of paint. it's abrasive.
    if your paint has no scratches or swirl marks you don't need to be polishing it.

    • @bubblehead7680
      @bubblehead7680 7 років тому

      Alphonse Faure Actually all paints have a clear coat. That is what is being polished. It removes micro scratches further smoothing the clear coat.

    • @Alf_4
      @Alf_4 7 років тому

      bubblehead7680 not all paints have clear coat, but that's beside the point. The polish is abrasive and removes material. It does not fill the micro scratches it grinds the higher areas down until the surface is smooth and level. Polish adds nothing to the paint or clear coat and you can't build up several layers of polish on the surface as he's suggesting in the video.

    even better use quality products Meguire's is a premium auto store line if you can afford it go to a detailing supply store their product are much much better things brands like pinnacle or angel wax while more expensive they destroy anything Meguiar's or Mothers can get close to dont use new finish or turtle wax they are crap
