Bryan, Thanks for taking the time to put these videos out there. You take an easy, unassuming hands on approach with your teaching skills. For those of us who are just starting out ( or in my case, restarting. A lot has changed in 20 years) your step by step instruction takes the "Oh crap, I'm going to screw up my bike" out of the picture. Changed the oil in my 2013 FRJ1300 last weekend from your video and cancelled my very expensive dealership appointment. Air filter is next. Thanks bud. We all owe you a beer. Well done Sir. Double A.
I'm Ray 61yrs old from Mississippi, It's August 2022. Just bought my 2015 FJR 1300 with 21300 miles. Just want to say I think your videos are very good. And your absolutely right about your videos helping others that haven't replaced or add and fix things on this bike. I know the videos or old but keep doing the great job that you are doing. Helps me and others alot.
Just changed the air filter in my FJR after watching this. In fact I’ve changed both the engine and rear drive oils this week after watching Bryan’s videos. Guys like Bryan bridge the gap between reading the manual and getting it done.
Thank you for your review. I just bought a 2016 FJR but, before I purchase different bikes I review videos such as yours. Why? To scope out potential draw backs to over complicated models. I enjoy doing as much of my the work as possible. Your vids offer a great peak into the FJRs straight forward approach of general maintenance. You are right about the shop manual being vague. Shop manuals are not a how to. Keep up the good work. You lead me to a very enjoyable bike. Glad your back. Thank you!
I know this video is old but THANK YOU. I am the guy you were mentioning from time 0 to 1:26..I just bought a 2012. I am a lot less intimidated watching your videos AND thanks to you I am doing my own general maintenance.
Hey Dan, You are aexactly right in your preamble here. Some of us have never turned a screw on a bike before. Your video's are more helpful than you know. I have watched every one. Thank you sincerely.
I have owned bikes since 1974, restored 5 bikes, new to FJR. I found your videos very helpful. Nice to not have to learn the 'process' of maintenance several time by brail.
Love all your videos man. I tend to not comment, but I wanted to show you my appreciation. You actually inspired me to get an FJR1300 just picked one up last Friday. Thanks man!
I like your videos no matter how simple the operation. I am not a mechanic and your videos take away my concerns of "surprises". Thank you for your calm and down to earth delivery.
Us FJR owners on a tight budget really appreciate your vids. Even on a simple oil change it’s the panel removal that can be a stumper. You help break it all down easy. Kudos! Oh! I actually promised not to tell but the lil rodents that left the turds used to joyride your bike at night when you were sleeping. They’re nocturnal you know. I didn’t want them mussing up your nice ride. 🙂
Just picked up a 2010 FJR1300, I have been checking your videos whenever have questions on how to take things apart or do maintenance. Helpful videos! thanks!
Just want to thank you for your informative videos. I pretty much have your exact same bike. I changed my air filter today, oil change tomorrow. Thanks again.
Recently exchanged my 2009 FJR for 2019 FJR 1300 AS . Great content on the channel, was already using some of your videos for older model, but now.will be here much more often. Regards from Poland!
Hi brian. I also own an fjr1300. I really appreciate the information that you shared on your channel. Please continue making these kind of videos to help people like me who are not knowledgeable in doing the regular maintenance on my bike. It saves me a lot of time and money since I can do it on my own. Thanks.
Hey Bryan. Thank you! It is basic maintenance, but your videos take the fear out of it me, and I’m sure many others. It’s also the gold nuggets you throw out explaining how it all works advantages disadvantages. Brilliant. If you ever come to ireland I’ll buy ya a pint of the good stuff
Another thanks for your FJR1300 videos. I replaced the battery 3 weeks ago and the air filter today both would have been much more trial and error and frustration without watching the videos a few times. I'm saddened to report my original air filter contained no rodent droppings! :D
I was actually scared and had no idea how to do this, the garage said it was a couple hours job, which would have cost me around £90. Screw that! after seeing this video im now going to give it ago! Thank you so much for giving me the confidence.
Hey Bryan, Thanks for the informative video! You have all the correct terminology for all the parts and makes it easy to follow. Most folks can probably do this and that is fine. However, I won't have to guess which screws and fasteners have to be removed.I am headed to the garage right now to change the filter on my FJR for the first time. You da man!
These how-to-videos also help us to decide which bike where going to buy. Of all of the sport tourer bikes, the FJR has the reputation for being the most DIY friendly. That is EXTREMELY important in deciding cost of ownership costs.
Thanks for posting these vids, bro. I'm getting my FJR next week, and I have no idea about working on Japanese bikes. Keeping my old Harley Dyna Super Glide, but I've been wanting the FJR for a while now and finally made the leap !!!
Changed my air filter today. Thank you so much for pointing out all the bolts! The book just said 'remove the side cover'. Appreciate the instructions! Awesome. Note I wonder off i could cut off that cylindrical plastic tube on the air box cover to make the reinstallation of the air box cover easier? It seems to serve no purpose. I'm taking about the tube that extends inside the middle of the air filter.
nice and clear your explain, look so easy to do, I has a gsxr suzuki 1100 , mod 92, but now my new bike is a yamaha fjr 1300 mod 07, look similar to fix, In my gsxr never visita mechanic, I duet my self all the bike problemas, but in this bike is diferent, I want o see a video about to take of a front tire, Im just want to know is the abs sensor can take of and put in with any problem
This is actually a very easy project unless you lay the shroud out of sight and forget to re-install it and then wind up with 2 left over snaps! One thing I did differently is I removed the hex bolt in the rear red panel behind the snap you removed; it just makes getting out the silver panel easier and only costs you about 10 extra seconds time.
Hi and thanks for this video I've just get an 2018 AE model last month and i would like to know if a K&N filter is helpfull for performance on this bike ?
Hello Brian. Thank you very much for the detailed and wonderful explanation. I always enjoy watching your videos, although I do not understand English very well. No one has such detailed instructions as you! Brian, can I ask you a question? Is there a book (manual) for servicing YAMAHA FGR 1300 from 2013? Can you share a link if there is something similar? I can't find it anywhere. On the Internet I meet only manuals until 2013. Thank you. Sergey.
13+ are all the same as far as repair with the exception of some electronics for the suspension. They didn't make a separate manual, so that's all there is.
Bryan; at the beginning as you started the panel disassembly, you took off a few "quarter turn" pins but when you reinstalled the panels you used "push-in" pins.. Would you be able to tell me which pins you used, and where I could find them?
My Question: If the fjr filter is a high flow filter couldn't you replace with a K&N type filter without having to tune the bike??? I greatly appreciate the videos and your opinions you share with us. I find them very helpful as I am not a mechanic... Thanks.
Finally got around to doing the change... this video helped so much, thank you so much! You think they could have managed that wiring harness better, lol? Found the gas tank vent hose in the process... somehow it was routed to the inside of the outer cover... that is what peeled the paint! The only blemish on the bike when I bought it with 10,200 miles on it for 5900 bucks. I have to wonder how the hose got there though...
If you want to have some fun, do this to an older AE model. I guess Yamaha designed the air box before they decided to put the auto-clutch paraphernalia in front of the access panel.
As a new biker, I was wondering, if you have the time, if you can briefly explain "counter steering". Although I've looked at countless videos about it, I don't find them very clear. I find your "how-to" videos very understandable and believe I, and many others, will find it a great help. I'll be taking lessons soon but would still appreciate your additional help. (Only if you can squeeze it into your busy schedule). Thanks again.
Blackhawk 247 I'm not any kind of qualified instructor, I would never think to pretend to be and do riding videos. Take an MSF course, you'll learn more in a day than a year of watching youtube videos.
Cool... I'm scheduled for the course this week end. Thanks for your input.. PS.. Sorry for the audio "problem" on your last CO live. Enjoyed it anyway !!!
I agree that there are a lot of counter steering videos out there that don't do a satisfactory job of explaining the concept. I would recommend Roadcraft Nottingham's channel. He is a certified MC instructor and I find his videos easy to understand. In my opinion, his counter steering video makes the most sense to me.
Thanks for your suggestion... Took the bike out today for the first time and experienced it all. They say "experience is the best and most cruel teacher" and it taught me well. Thanks again.
When are you going to save me with my 2017 BMW R1200 GS? PLEASE! My wife drives the FJR and I am so thankful for your help I can’t say enough thank you’s.
please inbox me with the information on where I can purchase a 2014 yamaha fjr 1300 A also want to know if the clutch system from the 2016 fit the 2014 model
The filter looks brand new! Do you drive the bike sometimes, or are you only disassambling your bike for the videos? ;-) Thank´s for the video and have a nice time. Greetings from Germany.
Thank you :-) I have just bought an '08 partly due to your reviews. Ground clearance is a bit of an issue dragging the pegs. Any suggestions? Can you raise the ride height? Aftermarket shock perhaps? The shock in it feels great though.
+oldhairpin can't say that's a common complaint. Perhaps the shocks are worn out or someone used lowering links. The Penske setup is very popular to replace work stock
+TwoWheelObsession Thanks. I was chasing my buddies on sports bikes and the FJR was very capable but the pegs kept dragging. Being in the UK we have some good suspension people here and I'll investigate. it might just be that that is the limit for the FJR. I tried hanging off to get it more upright but it just felt strange! ha ha
You could also try a slightly taller rear tire. I know on the Concours many riders said it helped it turn in much easier and it may give you a few more millimeters of clearance.
As an FJR rider who is non too happy at doing even the basic maintenance, your excellent videos are priceless! Thank you.
FJR Biker Paul Welcome!

An old video so you may not see this
Another brilliant video for new FJR owners
Just started servicing the FJR myself. I keep these videos as my go-to as well as the manual. Thanks Bryan.
Glad they help!
Thank you again sir! If a picture is worth 1000 words, your video is worth at least 100000 words. Nothing beats to be able to see how things are done.
Mike Lang No prob!

Thanks for taking time to explain things so clearly. I just bought a 2014 FJR and your videos are very helpful. I look forward to viewing all of them.
È una meraviglia seguire come lavori! Grande competenza!!! 👍

Great vid. This filter cover is a nightmare to get off and even harder to get back on with the wires in the way.

Great VIDEOS ! Finally something dedicated for FJR fans !
Thank you! Very helpful. Is is roughly the same for a 2003?
great video's I get my 2022 FJR in April so have saved these video's to a google sheet so I can get to them fast. Great Video's.

Thanks so much, I assume the prior gen is similar... SOOOOOO glad you don't have to remove the tank!

Excellent work thanks!

Okay! Have a nice day. :-)
Where have you been?
Excellent explained
Is this the same as a Gen 2 FJR? I'm considering a Good Preowned Gen 2 FJR
PHXGlock Yep
Any comments on the weight of the bike , she's a little heavy.?
Thanks for the info! You've saved me hundreds$$$ and hours of aggravation. 👍 Don't listen to the haters 🤪
Thank You
Not too bad............I watched a video on the Concours 14 air filter. Crazy absurd!
great video
thanks for the help
Wish the title on your video (and everyone who posts How-To) to include the Year of the vehicle. But it is a good video other than that.
LOL Uh, they are all the same.
We miss your videos. I hope all is well.
Same for an '08? Or much different?
