Thank you so much for taking the time to review our new Homefront™ knife. This is an awesome review and very detailed. Really liked all the information and the different ways or situations as to way you would need to clean the knife. Again awesome review! Thank you again!
a lot of knife customers do not like Aus 8 Steel not for this price point. for maybe a little more you could have went with s30v or 154. this is a very ingenious design but the quality of Steel used in the blade is not favorable amongst our peers in the night industry
I agree, with that price tag I expect better grade steel than that!
Making different blades with better steels and different shapes and finishes would be amazing to sell separately so customers could swap them out to get exactly what they want with the amazing field strip design.
I like this knife. It's been a long time since a knife caught my interest
I really like the fact that you can take it apart for proper maintenance as well as the strait edge
Love that knive! Very unique. Thumbs up.
I bought 2 of these knives from one of my distributors. One of them operated well straight out of the box. The second knife, however, would not disassemble right away. using the supplied torx wrench, I removed the pivot bolt to disassemble the knife, trying to discover if there is a problem. There was nothing obvious, so I reassembled everything. Upon reassembly, I noticed a small amount of sideways play with the blade. To adjust the play, I slightly tightened the pivot bolt. This corrected the sideways play of the blade, but it was back to being unable to be disassembled. Eventually, I decided to test what would happen if I slightly loosened the pivot bolt. This solved the problem of being able to disassemble the knife as it is designed to be, and to reassemble it as well, however, I do find that I have to pinch the blade pivot area a bit to get the lever to fully move into the locked position. Problem solved!
Wow, that is a cool knife.
Awesome design to it i love that star and the texture looks sweet great product
Sootch, I like CRKT but this is a $60 knife max. Thanks for the review!!
$120???
If it wasn't low-mid steel, I could see it, but yeah. I'd pay $50. If it were S30V, I'd pay the asking price.
Nice EDC field knife and easy to strip down, no tools required is a big plus. Thanks Dave!
Looks nice.Love of of my crkt blades. They are all quality and last. All folders and one of the only edc I have they all are great. Will have to add this one also. Thanks scootch.
Very sweet knife!
Thanks Dave : )
I was skeptical of the Teflon bushings, but they seem to hold up well in my Squid. Great EDC and cheap enough to lose.
Cool knife I will have to look for one..
Thanks
oh wow that's a beautiful knife
That's the first knife that I've seen in a looooong time that is a MUST have this week. I'm one of those "SNOBS" when it comes to the steel and I'm not a fan of AUS-8 at all, but that's because of a failed blade back in the 1980's so maybe things have changed since then. I just know I love this folder. Keep up the great work.
Good idea, it would be nice to see that quick take down on some of the captured ball bearing designs.
Great Knife... thanks for another great informational video... I've ordered mine and am looking forward to receiving it. Thanks again
pretty cool design. and i love the vintage-modern look and i really like the color.
i may just have to get this for my rotation.
Looks like a very nice knife thank you for the video. :)
I love the look of it. Very cool knife
Great idea..looks right..even the pocket clip is a home run for a change. But IMO, for that price it should have better blade steel, maybe 154 CM.
This is the best review I've seen on this knife so far. Thumbs Up!
wecome sootch; awsome knife
sootch thats a sweet knife and a awesome review
Excellent video! I previewed this one, going to update it with a review soon, but so far I like it - just like you! Thanks!
really cool design, how ever I don't think it's worth 100 bucks, so many other knives in that price point that use better steel.
Totally Agree
I also agree, fantastic design as is usual with CRKT, but a poor choice in steel, which is also common with CRKT.
Maybe if they used 14c28n. And blackened the blade.
Hopefully they will come out with different blades.
you can get it on Amazon for 80
Nice little folder
If it had a serrated bit i would love it. It has a slim profile and is easy to clean. But for a lot of what i do with my knives the serrations are needed.
That would be nice for field dressing game. Easy clean up.
Great knife. I have a CRKT Fossil
Great review. Thanks! I am in love with this knife. I love the ability to break it down and very much love the look and design of it overall. I currently carry the Carson Design M16-13Z as my edc. I have had it for years. I just can't bring myself to spend $113 on Amazon for this one. $80 maybe, but $113....I just can't.
I just saw it on Amazon for like 80 something bucks.
Right on brother and 2 thumbs up!
I ordered mine today from Amazon Prime for 77 bucks, will be here tomorrow.
Great knife
Very nice video, been thinking about getting a CRKT knife, may get this one.
Semper Paratus Sootch! -Corey @ PREPARED 2 THRIVE
thats a really cool knife
Nice knife!
Cool stuff.
This design lends itself well to after market blade designs, maybe also to someone engraving the inside with their details.
I carry a CRKT hissatsu folder everyday thumbs way up
Is that the pointy one
Yeah the pointy slashy one that's all black
I was thinking of getting that one but the handle Is huge and boxy that put me off
I showed it to my friend " who knows nothing about knives lol " and he said the blade is to thin and would break lol gotta love the know nothing knife guys that think they know it all lol
+Lyndon Lucier your friend has a point, I have both the hissatsu and Otanashi Noh ken and the tip broke off both after awhile, and I don't use them hard or stupidly. They have very thin tips but as far as breaking the blade in half lol nah

I think it's a great looking design and knife overall. And I'm not a steel snob by any means but I do have a problem paying that price for that steel. Being field strippable it's not marketed as a edc knife but more of a police/military tool. Being marketed in that manner I'd expect them to use a steel that would hold an edge longer.
I edc the Kershaw leaf Ken onion, it is smaller but kicks open on its own, that is where this knife fails for me, would go for it tho with a stronger spring installed.
Alot of knife choices out there. XP
Very interesting design more knife companies should do something like this......
cwrowe Why? There is ZERO point. WHY do you need to disassemble a folder to clean it? You don't. I've got slipjoints from the 40's and they are in perfect working order and in fact can't be disassembled. I just wash them, dry them and oil them and they work just fine. Same goes for ever frame lock/tactical/locking knife ever I own or ever made. Other than just someone's undying need to Tinker with something is the only reason you would ever have to disassemble a knife to clean it or oil it or anything. I love watching these videos of people who disassemble their knives to clean them and then they put a couple of drops of oil on the bronze washers or bearings or whatever and then talk about how much smoother it feels but what they don't realize is soon as you stick it in your pocket and carry it for a day you automatically got dust and debris right back in it in the viscosity of the oils going to break down it's going to get gunked up so that serve zero purpose. A good friend of mine and knife maker Jim Allen from Three Sisters Forge told me when I asked him what's the best way to run a bronze washer knife he told me bone dry period in gym makes some of the toughest nice on the planet.
nice design
Only nylon washers at the pivot? And no spares?
When assembling the knife and the lever binds as you're locking it DO NOT FORCE IT you'll risk breaking the locking lever. Simply push up firmly on the pivot screw head. It should then easily lock in place. I love my Homefront and have had it apart many times to clean grit and crud out of it.
FYI: stainless steels are not impervious to the elements. They are just very corrosion resistant.
$120 on an AUS-8 blade? No way.
Knife Design itself looks fantastic but for the Price i won't even consider this knife... Was worried about the price when i heard the name Ken onion
Cool! I like it
I have a Buck 110 (for over 40-years), and a true Victorinox Tinker (about 20-years). They have been through hundreds (if not thousands) of hunts, fishing trips, backyard fiascos and more. They have been 'bathed' several times, oiled frequently, kept sharp. I have YET to have the need (at 60-years old now) to take one apart to 'clean it'. This seems like a 'gadget' approach to knife making. What is so 'vulnerable' to this knife that unlike the Buck 110v, it has to be 'disassembled' to be cleaned properly?
Why did you have to show this knife?? Lol ...now I have to spend more money! Haha awesome features to have on a knife .great review
very nice.....is there a plan for multi style blade exchange?
Ok Sootch I understand that some gear review/ads are needed for funding but it seems they are taking over your content lately. I miss the good ole days with your insightful instructional stuff.
Do you know if they are going to come out with other blades you can insert into the knife?
Now that's an idea.....
Great design, nice review. TCD72
How does the level lock work? Is it worth worrying about this as a point if failure?
Can you use the fuller as an opener? Haven't seen that mentioned in any reviews yet.
great vid, thanks!
short question; coudl you pls. recommend me a good outdoor/EDC shop in New York?
Should I buy an Ontario RAT (D2 Steel) or a Kershaw Skyline (Sandvick 14C28N)?
Do you think they will come out with different blade options?
I am 13 I want really love prepping but my parents think its real stupid to prepare for these types of situations because they think it will never happen to them. What should I do any tips.
my edc is a gerber gator awesome knife
good review!
I'll wait for the next installment of this design, hopefully with frame lock and g10 handle.
And better steel.
I guess it's who you talk to etc. But isn't a frame lock with a handle called a liner lock? It's a frame lock inside 2 scales or handles.
Having a hard time locking it back. Is there a easy way to fix it?
Nice knife but a 120 dollars with Aus8 steel !!!
I'll pay $120 for a knife all day long, but never for AUS8 steel.
+Jeremy Madsen it's 80 on amazon
Roberto Mora still too much lol
Went to going gear and they don't have it. Your link went straight to to front page.
There are two links in the description, one to going gear home page and the second one to the Homefront page. I just checked it and it worked. Thanks
Love it!
I have to send mine back. The lever is almost impossible to move. I finally got the knife apart but it will not reassemble. The lever is not catching properly and the blade is very loose in the knife. From all the good reviews of this knife, I assume I happen to have a lemon. Hope they fix it right or send me a working knife. I am not bashing it. As I said, I assume I just happen to have one bad knife. I'll see. I am calling CRKT tomorrow regarding return.
Sensibleprepper Thank you for your very informative videos, keep them coming as it helps continue my preps!!!
#iamadiehardprepper....
I like it. ..
iv had mine for 7 years and only had the very tip get blunted when I dropped it open one day,
If Chris Reeve made this it would be $500. I like it....
Is Going gear ship to Canada ?
Awesome!
1. Being able to take it down that quickly really is not necessary. 2. That wheel will become completely jammed with dirt and gunk if it were ever used in a dirty situation, gritty water, etc. Try using the tightening wheel on a Stihl chainsaw after it's been gunked up, it won't move.
Every CRKT knife I've owned were super prone to rust
$120 for aus 8 screw that for $120 id like to see s30v or at least 154cm
Had the same thong on my mind. Cool design crap price. Spyderco manix 2 can get for $95ish and that has s30v lol no thanks.
You're paying for Ken Onion's name...
***** cool. I won't. I'll let you blow $100 on an aus8 knife.
I agree. CRKT has some nice designs, I just wish they would up the blade steel like you mentioned. For $90+, you should be getting VG10, 154cm, etc.
brashearbeer totally agree.
too expensive for aus 8 steel at that price point...
I don't see the need for a nife that come apart easy really .cuz your one tool nife would be a fix blade so this would be a every day use nife witch wouldent be in the mud and if it was just run under water don't need to take it apart I see it being very easy to come apart in use .I not a fan.
Im not bashing this blade since itd thr first of its kind. Maybe the 2018 crkt line will have this model in an s35vn or a cpm steel for 200-250 but they are retailing this blade for double what its worth.
Here is my issue with what CRKT did here. Ken Onion has a groundbreaking design with a U.S.A. military spin on it. It's called the HOMEFRONT and then they make it it Taiwan....way to drop the ball CRKT.
Like the design but for price no WAY I'd rather get the BUCK VANTAGE PRO !!! 100% USA MADE with s30v for around 50-60
I would like to see this knife offered without the field strip technology. That should lower the price or better steel could be used. I love the design and how the blade has a fuller in it. I just think the field strip technology is a solution to a non existent problem.
on amazon they have two types this in aluminum handles and another one that looks exactly like it but the housing is made of some kind of high strength handles does anyone know about that one and if so could you let me know, Thanks in advance
that's a lot of cutouts in blade pivot area. looks like it could break easily.
sapphiro not if you use it as a folding knife and only cut things with it the way it was designed to be used
I like the blade shape but i think the whole idea is kind of gimmicky
super
mine took almost 2 months to arrive but it was worth it
this would be great with h1 steel from spyderco
probably h1 would be a better steel if you were washingbit with creek water often. And i think you mean jimping not serations.
Aus 8 $100 but I love the design cool look to it!
a lot of knife customers do not like Aus 8 Steel not for this price point. for maybe a little more you could have went with s30v or 154. this is a very ingenious design but the quality of Steel used in the blade is not favorable amongst our peers in the night industry
Was its sponsored
yeah but does it float my Gerber floats
cool design but needs a better blade steel for the price they are asking
Don't forget a lil "frog snot" lube.. lol
Oh and Benchmade is a trophy knife. Only use once a year lol.
