You’re right about people getting weird when you have a fixed blade knife. I had a small skinner, my going out knife, on me at a new church that I was hoping to start attending. I bent over to let my son walk in the foyer of the church and next thing I know the security guard came up to me and said my knife was scaring people! That made me feel horrible. Especially since most of the men had their knives clearly showing to be seen. Mine was nice and neat under my shirt and I was the one called out for it. I never went back to that church.
Because of 9-11 & recent school shootings people in soft targets are on edge,so understand the fear, but disagree with that approach,if you're a law abbing citizen then no 1 should freak out,but be grateful for the added protection if needed 🙏🇺🇸
Now that I'm retired, a fixed blade and a SAK combo is pretty much all I carry. Oh, and you're completely right about the weird looks that people give when you pull out a fixed blade in public, but I don't care. I'm too old to worry about other folks like that. Great video! 😁👊🏻
Been carrying the same combo every day since I was a teenager, not once has either let me down. I’ve never really noticed any weird looks, but thankfully I live in a state where it’s pretty much anything goes for carry so that may be part of it.
Good points. One that I take exception with though is easy of putting it away. I carry both a folder and a small fixed blade daily and have for several years. My preferred carry location for my fixed blade is horizontally on my belt, to the left of the buckle, handle in, tip out under a shirt tail. Very easy to deploy, but I find it best to use two hands (one to lift the shirt, the other for the knife), and actually look down as I presheath it. Otherwise, it's all too easy to poke myself or damage my clothing. Whereas, with all of my various EDC folders it's very quick and easy to deploy, use, close and repocket the knife one handed without even thinking, let alone looking. The difference in my mind is that with a folder the blade is safely stowed away before it approaches the body or is near any clothing. With a fixed blade the tip and edge is always exposed which makes it easier for accidents to happen. For this reason, although I always have both on me, I find that for most random EDC uses, I most always use my folders.
I have been edcing a fixed blade as my primary knife for over 10yrs now and everything you stated is spot on with my experience, but the biggest thing I feel with fixed blades is the value you get with them. Generally speaking a 125-170 dollar fixed blade will give you significantly more knife than a folder in the same range.
Let's also not forget that, for true budget, $30 for a fixed blade gets a heck of a lot more than $30 in a folder. With possibly the exception of the Ontario RAT 2 D2.
You are spot on with the value. I have in my EDC rotation several fixed blades from Civivi and Sencut. All are sub $100 and have amazing quality. With prices today, you would be lucky to find anything usable in a similar price range.
@@Pyro8285 I’ll do you one better up until two years ago. I carried Knives religiously and collected them. I have thousands of dollars invested in knives. I’m a union pipe fitter so I was sharpening my Kershaw leek. And then a guy showed me his five dollar folding utility knife from Home Depot and it just made so much sense. Hear me out what I mean is for every utility blade you use there’s two sides so you always have a sharp knife on you you never have to sharpen it and the blades or dirt dirt cheap and if you lose it, who cares if you’re opening boxes all day just use a simple box cutter. Yes Knives they look so cool. They’re cool to play with and everything but at the end of the day, I said you always have to sharpen them and they’re extremely expensive for opening a box . So now I carry a nice anodize folding utility knife and I always have a sharp blade, literally a razor sharp blade. now I get it you can’t baton with a utility knife. You can’t do a lot of things with a utility knife. But for general every day use but utility knife is the way to go, and this is coming from somebody that was obsessed literally obsessed with pocket knives and fix blade knives.
I went edc fixie back around 2007 after almost losing an inch of my index finger to a Cold Steel xl Vaquerro that accidently guillotined closed. Once you get used to fixies there's no going back. By far the most comfortable has been the Creely Mako, not just the handle but the sheath. Take a look at their deep carry leather sheath with the ulticlip, they've been using this design for years. It is so comfortable that you don't even know its there and it is so easy to draw and resheath. Didn't think I'd like it, had a kydex sheath made for the Mako but after trying the leather sheath I'm looking to have similar sheaths made for my other small fixies.
As we say regarding re-holstering a pistol, "re-holstering is not a timed movement", meaning there's no need to re-holster quickly and without looking. Same for knives.
I carry a fixed blad for personal protection only. It is never used to cut anything so the edge is always hair popping sharp. I carry a SAK as a utility tool to cut whaterver needs cutting or opened.
Well seeing as his whole argument for this point is how much time it saves vs the exhausting effort of removing a folder and then *gasp* OPENING the knife he kinda needs to stay on point by quickly stabbing it blindly into the pocket and making it out to be easy.
I think a folding knife is safer. I've been carrying a Spyderco folding knife for over 30 years and never had a problem with reliability or anything else. One handed use has never been a problem either. I use it at least twice a day. If I constantly needed to use a knife (15+ times a day) then I'd consider a fixed blade.
A good knife is an extension of your personality. I carry a knife everywhere. I have a work knife and a dress knife! And it has turned into a profitable side venture in my retirement years. Nothing like creating a beautiful knife!
I too live in NC. Born and bred. I both love and hate it. Would love to move out west but too old and broke. Plus can't leave all my dogs that have passed on. I visit their graves every day even after 20 years. I miss them so much. That being said, have you ever eaten at Stephenson's Bar- be- que in Johnston Co.? Would love to meet you in person to purchase a few things cause I like to hold an item before I buy it. Thanks for all your great videos and all the info they contain. James S. NC
I carry fixed blades pretty frequently. Nice to see others doing it too! I can't deal with skeletonized fixed blade handles though. Ick. I'll take the handle scales every time.
Fixed blade is the way to go. Waaay better for working in the yard, around the house, camping, food prep, carving, etc. You can beat the crap out of fixed blades and they're fine. I always keep one in my vehicle too.
so I use my knife many times a day, back when I primarily carried a folder i would wear out the pivot or break the blade every 10 to 15 months, black Friday 2021, the Gerber tri tip and the utilclip were both on sale on amazon, and I'm still carrying that in my right front pocket. the paint has worn off the clip, and the knife handle has some dents from where I've used it as a hammer, but it still works fantastically.
I normally have several folders in my pockets. Recently, a Kershaw live wire has received a lot of pocket time. I have a Bradford guardian 3 for a fixed blade.
Thanks for the good things about Fixed Blade knives and carry options. I own many many folders and fixed Blade, but getting the best sheath is a major issue on my end. Thanks for the sites to explore sheaths for fixed blade carry. The one that stands out for me is the in pocket clip fixed blade sheath.. Thanks again.
So this video just popped up in my stream. Not really something I was looking for but as somebody who does carry a fix blade for years. You pretty much hit on all the reasons why I do. But would like to add that i can use mine to pry on things. Yes im hard on my knifes but I buy high quality and they rarely bend. Over all well thought out and put well.
Hey Taylor, really-really good comprehensive video done here. I've been a fan of your videos for years. Most folks who have been around me know that I've been carrying both fixed blades and folders for at least twenty years (and really much much longer than that if I'm being honest). You made many excellent points in your wonderful, well thought out video, young sir, and I absolutely agree with the many excellent points you've made in this video. Blades are really a very functional tool that can be used in seemingly endless ways to help in various tasks, and this is one reason that I have carried at least one Bark River knife for bushcrafting, and other types of blades for Kali and Silat work for many-many... many years now. I guess that at this point, I've pretty much got my little system dialed in right where I want it. Please keep up the wonderfully comprehensive work that you do in your videos, and may you and your family always be well young sir. 🫡
I agree. I carry the Holtzman Bloodline fixed blade, SAK & Exceed Designs TiRant for cutting boxes etc... Oh! I also a Benchmade Bugout 535BK-2201 - Work Sharp Exclusive. which I rotate with the Bear Ops Rancor II folder.
I have actually got a new to me Gerber Strongarm fixed blade knife. And whenever I’m out camping or in our woods, it comes with me for protection. Because here in East Tennessee we have coyotes, bobcats, and sometimes bears. Whenever I ever go anywhere in the woods, I always have my phone on me in case something happens so that way I can get ahold of someone and they can help. I also have a few folding knives, but I also have a fixed blade knife forged out of a railroad spike when I got my first class rank in Boy Scouts. The First class rank is halfway to Eagle Rank, and the First class rank symbolizes that you can handle a folding knife, axe, hand saw and a hatchet safely, and so my last scoutmaster had made me the fixed blade knife.
I have always carried a fix blade on my belt...weak side, cross draw, appendix carry. I don't see the reason to carry it in my pocket. It gets in the way when I sit down and can't carry it with shorts. But I carry a Lionsteel H1 or H2. The sheath is absolutely the best leather sheath for EDC carry. It stays along my belt and doesn't sag. Also, the sheath is designed to be carried in a lot of different ways. You really should check them out. I think you will like them.
The reason I don't EDC a fixed blade is the right sheath for the right knife combo that you discussed. Could use a video with the best combinations that you have found. I also like that, with a folder, the clip is usually the only thing showing.
Why is the knife community so obsessed with whether or not you can baton with a certain knife? 99% of knife users will never baton wood in their life, much less be forced to do it with your EDC.
People who are watching this video are a different echelon of people all together. They are not asking "why would anyone baton with a knife". We would especially want to know the full capability of a knife. And why we should carry such said knife. I respect your pov, just disagree with it.
So funny you post this. For years I carried a Izula 2 on my belt. My all time favorite knife. 2021 I fell in love with collecting folders and stopped carrying the izula. Last week I go camping and drop my folder. It was dark out. I find it full of dirt and will not lock. It’s all fixed now but im back to the izula.
Great vid. So Much emphasis on the familiar pocket clip type knives. They have their place… but, a solid EDC fixed blade is BEST OVERALL! Lots to choose from I personally carry the Medford -The Deep, Chris Reeve fixed, or in the field Ranger PUUKKO M95. Highly recommend all!
I am in 100% agreement brother. I would take a fixed blade over folder any day of the week. For me I carry the tops Street scalpel 2 in a pocket carry. Had to add the pocket clip but it wasn't more than 25 bucks and now you can EDC it
I’ve been trying trying for several years to find the perfect sized fix blade that works best for me and I have tried multiple different blades from carrying them on my waist to buying the kite sheets from the leather to you know just different things. The big idea, designs look out, has been the one that all accounts for me personally perfect I thought it first. It might be a little too small but the sheath drops in pocket well the pocket clip while very different does what it’s supposed to do and I’ve been a hard-core folder guy for quite some time now like I said I’ve been looking for a really long time for a good fix blade that I could you know drop in pocket and with the lookout. I think it’s pretty much perfect and that’s what I’m going with. I’m gonna try a couple more that I’ve seen but for the most part I’m definitely loving it, look out for me thanks appreciate all the info and all the different aspects of Knife and EDC that you bring to the table. I love the fact that you have so many different ideas of content that really takes you and your channel outside of the box versus other channels that I see I love that it’s still EDC and it’s still Knife related but you really do tap on a lot of different things and that is what for me makes you very different and always makes your content interesting for me. I never get bored with it and for that I’m truly grateful wishing you peace, positivity, prosperity, and progression.
I recently found the Giant Mouse GMF1-XL. I have messed around with a ton of fixed blades for edc and this specific knife is the most useable and comfortable to carry. Carrying with the kydex in the scout position does not print hardly at all as well.
What an excellent explanation of the advantages of carrying a fixed blade knife. Thank you! Im convinced. 😄 I carry a Becker Necker on my neck, under my shirt.
I went from folders to fixed blades and now I'm back to OTF's and simple folders like my Sebenzas. The Sebenza really broke my knife obsession pretty well. I got to where I just carry a Sebenza and nothing else because it can do everything I used to feel like i needed more task specific knives. I do carry a Sebenza or Bugout and an OTF because I don't like cutting food with an OTF but otherwise, I don't carry a fixed blade regularly anymore, except in the woods.
got a böker daily knives Ak1 3 months ago and never left the house without it since. carried a folder for 10+ years and the pocket sheath is an absolute game changer for me.
I have been carrying a fixed blade EDC for several years now, but I still carry a couple folders for utility (SAK, knives with a punch blade, etc). I like the Benchmade fixed blade Griptilian that I got a custom sheath for, and am currently carrying it. I have carried a RMJ UCAP, and also a Benchmade Protagonist. I also have carried a Muela Colibri for awhile. I really like that knife. I have made a paracord loop that I have hooked a carabiner through, and just clip it to a belt loop. It is very versatile and makes a great steak knife when out in a restaurant. I like the looks of your Lookout knife. I would like to get one in MagnaCut, but they don’t seem to be available right now. Thanks for sharing.
I’ll have watch many of your videos to agree with your claim of ease of deployment. All of my fixed blades are in Kydex sheaths and they are very difficult to remove from the sheath with one hand. Typically the sheath wants to come out with the knife. So I have to use a finger to hold down the sheath and it’s makes it easier to cut that finger on deployment. Then the hole trying to put back in sheath without missing the sheath and damaging my pants or in worse case cutting my leg. I can pull a folder and deploy as it’s coming out of my pocket and ready to use. One handed operation is much easier and safer. I can also get a lot more blade in the same or even smaller footprint in my pocket. I can’t wear a fixed blade on a knife as it would be a problem to be displaying a knife in the office and lab. I basically have to dedicate a whole pocket to the fixed blade.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IN CALIFORNIA IF YOU CARRY A FIXED BLADE KNIFE IT MUST BE OPENLY CARRIED IN A SHEATH THAT IS SUSPENDED FROM YOUR WAIST. Putting it in your pocket like in the video or covering it with a shirt while on a belt would be considered concealed carry and is illegal. Also it must be suspended from the waist so necklace knives are also illegal. Be safe :D
Found that funny, in Spain is the opposite. If you open carry a knife ( do not matter what type of knife or if you are in the fields, mountains ) that would cost you a ticket and your knife would be retired to police department but if you carry it in your pocket and the knife has not over 4´3 inches of blade, there is no problem. So in Spain you always should concealed carry for "safety" or at least to carrying it legally. Have a good day
I have an awesome custom pocket fixed blade coming from Fox River Blades! Can't wait to recieve it, I have a feeling once pictures are posted of it done. Alot of people will want one!
Well put argument. I like my Brisa Necker a lot, quite small but works excellent even for my 9-10 sized hands. The leather sheath sucks so prepare to wetform it yourself or get the Kydex. The Real Steel CVX80 is the only knife knife I actually own twice because I like it so much. And my Lionsteel M4 is not a small knife but finds its way into my pocket on a regular basis. So yes, fixed blades for edc works well for me.
I carried a folder for decades, I started carrying an MKM Pocket Tango2 about a month ago. Really like it and have since picked up a Brisa Necker 70 and Dozier Straight Personal. They all fit in the awesome MKM pocket sheath too and can be drawn, replaced with one hand. Fixed blade carry in VA concealed is OK as long as it's not a bowie, dirk, etc.
I've had a Gerber 06 Manual S30V in my pocket since 2006. Occasionally mixed in a Benchmade Griptilian 551 or Buck 110 1980-81 3 dot. Although I like all of them, I've been leaning towards the fixed blade for daily carry for years now. I really dig the concept of the Kabar TDI Hinerer Hellfire with that mock karambit style and tanto tip. Tough 1095 CroVan. Looks like a great defensive piece that can get anything else done you want it to.
my edc is a small 3 blade pen knife and a surge Leatherman. Never needed to baton anything in the city. Pen knives are great for cleaning your fingernails and small tasks like removing small screws, removing slivers, and stickers off of fruit without people freaking out. Most think I'm using my fingernails to do the task. When in the woods I have fix bladed knives and a pen knife.
My edc is fixed blade,I as also have some Cases, Gerbers and a Kershaw with it original leather sheet it does have a clip and I still carry it sometimes also. I bought my Kershaw in 1985.
Waiting for the beckwith covert knife for my next fixed DDC (defensive daily carry). My Beretta 101B knife still has great lock-up after more than 20 years & it's been my EDC for as long, put it to good use.
Pairing a medium fixed blade for “real” work with a light duty folder works well for me. For most edc tasks my SAK tinker or Benchmade proper is more than enough and they don’t make “non-knife” ppl uncomfortable, I wouldn’t trust either of them for hard use though. I prefer not having an exposed pocket clip also because I’ve gotten the “look” for that too, what I edc is nobody’s business but mine(especially if your a gear snob/junkie lol, some days between a watch, 2 knives, flashlight, and a prybar I’d have around $1k worth of gear on me…not advertising your valuables to strangers seems like a good practice even though show and tell is fun lol).
I haven’t really thought about carrying a straight blade EDC, most of my straight blades are generally too large. I have a small one that could work as an EDC but you’re right that people will likely react more to a fixed blade. I will test it out.
I carry a Scott Cook Small Owyhee Hunter fixed blade every day in a Tailored by Cortes sheath that was made for something else (Boker AK1 maybe) and it is perfect. Beautiful knife in a well made sheath. Can't beat it.
I'm not intending to argue. The ease for the majority of people is still going to be a folder. People, for some reason, are more comfortable with concealed carry regardless of what tool/weapon it is. What I particularly do is when in uniform, I carry a minimal folder because govt building limit my options, and a full sided knife otherwise, winter is when I carry a fixed blade for the utility while traveling in general.
I like carrying three fixed knifes and a box cutter. I love carrying on my neck, pocket and, belt especially with when cross holster carry and appendix carrying a knife.
I live in ohio and i always carry either a. Neck knife or my array of fixed blade . Maybe being a old dude a cop said my larger fixed was a thing . But i love a good fixed blade with.leather or a good kydex or one of the many custom made sheaths ..Taylor your the best EDC show on UA-cam , i got the Ti sling shot and ultem you distribute as they sent me a metal Best Damnd edc plaque th a ts Bad Ass John W Nato
I carry a fixed blade "the Boker Nesmi Pro" daily for work, for the same reasons you mentioned about cleaning and nothing getting in the pivot because there isn't one. I used to carry a folder but I had to clean it every week, sometimes daily. That's why a fixee blade makes sense, but for EDC outside of work I carry a folder usually unless I want a fixed blade and I'm wearing pants and not shorts.
Hi Taylor. After your video, I decided to look for something for myself. I currently use WE Banter because I like small knives. I ordered a Brisa necker 70 knife, unfortunately there are few films about this blade. Maybe you could also take a look at their products? I'm curious about your opinion. Greetings from Poland.
I have only one tiny edc fixed blade, the benchmade hidden canyon hunter s90v, I like it a lot, but I have to admit it takes a lot of space in the pocket and impair my mobility much more than a 4 inches folder, and weight more with the sheath. Plus, I like to fidget a lot with my knives. However, your video gave me the desire to try to edc it more. I have made some little fixed blades with 1075 but now I have to make sheaths so I can try to carry them outside of my shop lol.
I try to carry both. I have a small fixed blade and two folders in my pockets. Always one Cold Steel and one other really good knife. NEVER A LINRE LOCK KNIFE. Great video.
The Gerber Basic Knife is a good size/weight to edc and the sheath has a pocket clip. I carry it handle down (pocket clip at tip of balde) I do that simply to make the entire knife concealed. Since its not my primary self defense the slightly slower deployment isn't an issue.
So @taylor I had a video idea and I’ve been watching for a while but I’m not sure you’ve done one of these yet. For urban/office EDCers there are a number of us who work jobs where knives are forbidden (court lawyers, Behavioral health/medical providers in hospitals, etc.) so what would be your favorite alternative tools (multi or other) for cutting and other relevant activities we would use a knife for when we’re not at work or visiting a public space with security check points?
I’ve been EDCing my Benchmade Hidden Canyon in scout carry at appendix paired with my Shield plus at the same position but IWB. I usually have my Spyderco para 3 or Benchmade north fork in my pocket or bag. If I’m outdoors I have my Saddle Mountain at my side in a custom leather sheath.
I gave up folders 4 years ago, got a Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter. I’ve used it for everything, lunch at work, cutting bait on the boat, skinning deer etc. I doubt I will ever carry another folder.
Just to push back a little against the assertion that folders can only be carried in pockets. I've been a belt-carry person for many years, and currently have a Jack Wolf Laid-Back Jack in the extra slot of the Leatherman Arc's belt case, along with a Case Seahorse whittler (I carve a lot of wood; it's a great knife if you sharpen away Case's factory edge) in a belt case I got on Etsy. Generally, variations of the original Leatherman belt case are great for traditional slipjoints. I've EDCed fixed blades off and on over years, and I do so a lot less now because I the public reactions you address-and I'm also in North Carolina.
Well, I’m definitely on the fence about which one of these approaches I want to take. I’ve been carrying a foldable utility knife (for lack of a better description) for a while and was looking to get into the actual knife with a blade on it but now I’m not sure if I want a folder or a fixed blade…😂 and I’m in North Carolina🤔
Carried a Strider DB-L or EB-DB at work for a number of years but never edc’d one until the guardian 3 very recently and now have a textured Sabre grind wicket on the way as of today. Still love my Zaan and PMII’s, etc, but a small fixed blade in the right pocket sheath is my preference now.
Right on Brother! been carrying a fixed blade for years after I almost cut my finger off because a locking blade failed to lock open after getting clogged with junk during a long tough day at work as a Carpenter framer woodworker Folding knives are for people that like to play around with them and impress people...........just too many moving parts
Hey Taylor! Im in Central NC. Would love to meet you in person one day. Just as a heads up brother, in NC it is 100% illegal to conceal carry a fixed blade period. That includes pocket carrying. Folding knives can be concealed carried but must be less than 4.5 inches when closed. S. 14-269 NC defines concealed carrying as any weapon that is covered or hidden by or within clothing. Good luck to you out there.
Concealed is defined by intent. Do you intend to conceal? A pocket clip and the knife sticking out of a pocket is not concealed. If it’s covered by your shirt, it definitely is. But there is precedence that notes pocket clips do not show intent to conceal. My fixed blades always stick out of my pocket and aren’t covered by my shirt.
It is understandable the advantages offered by a fixed blade knife vs any folder but when a folder is called for places in which concealment is called without sacrificing blade length I rely on my cold steel spartan (for places in which a less than five inches of blade are allowed) and my cold steel ti lite XL for places that permit more blade length 😎🤙
in my country its not legal carry a knife in general, so i carry a folding knife on my pocket, goes unnoticed... i live in the south part of Chile, so there are many moments when you need to use it. My current Pocket knife its a GANZO G704 For now, it's been a excelent knife, I usually use it for heavy work.
I keep buying small fixed blades but haven't found a way to enjoy carrying them until I started using a sling to carry everything I'd typically carry in my pockets. Now i have all the pocket room for knives 🤣! Also just got a primitive wicket xl which has a perfect pocket sheath.
Went to a folder a couple of years ago. In the past I carried a full size fixed blade on my belt in a dangler and just tucked that hanging part into a pocket when I got around civilization. I may get back to that... I stopped because of CC every day but here in Florida in reality the sweat and wet make off body carry much more of a reality. A big blade would stand up to the daily sauna way better than a pistol and get me to it if needed. Thanks for bringing this up. I don't know what I was thinking...
Like with shooting, what works the best for the person is the one to use. I have both and it depends on what I'm doing, will dictate what knife I carry. Not everyone wears tactical pants, I wear Wranglers that are 5 pockets, so a good folder works better for me, everyone is different. I do appreciate the video and ideas of different fixed blades. For me, a folder is much easier, faster to deploy and retract and put away. Again, to each their own.
Finally got the look out and have been loving it! I need to try those pants from huckberry since I always wear jeans and the knife can be bothersome sometimes when bending over
I don’t even bother with pocket knives anymore. They’re slow and get messed up by food or dirt. It’s tricky but I love horizontal carry in the front. It’s crazy fast.
I edc a 5 inch fixed blade, but also a lockback folder and a stockman slipjoint. All three every day. My work is on a farm, and all three see regular use. Each have a different role.
I carry daily an SRK-C in my pocket since the dang knife came out. I make a really nice custom leather sheath with a static belt line and thats that. I can even use the ridge of the sheath to hone the blade and also attach a tiny flashlight to it with a ranger band.
Fixed has its advantages on hygiene and sharpening. You can clean and dry it entirely and quickly. You can sharpen the blade entirely. Folder has its advantage on size. You can carry it easily within a pocket. I don't think the stability of structure is an issue for a folding knife, or it could be an insult to some brands. For EDC knives, the edge retention is far more critical than toughness. M390, S35VN, Elmax, CruWear, MagnaCut, CPM154, 3V, N690, VG10, D2 could be taken into consideration as knife steels, depending on your budget.
Ive always liked a good fixed blade, used to belt carry all the time. As ive gotten a little older i guess you can say mabey ive gotten lazy or want something just a little smaller or lighter. I dont always wear a belt, (say with some shorts that dont have belt loops) or i dont always wear the same brand pants every day. I make that comment because not every pocket is made equal, nor does every pair of pants i have, have cargo or carperter pockets. Ive carried a folder sometimes even back in the day in conjunction with a fixed blade for over 20 years. Ive never had to disassemble a folder for maintenance, never had one get so gunked up it wouldnt operate. It it got dropped or rinsed off in water, i do whats needed to dry and reapply an oil, its never been an issue and ive carried a knife every single day for close to 25 years. I too live in Nc born and raised and i believe as long as a blade isnt over 4 inch blade length you can conceal it. But personally if your not doin things you shouldnt be, i dont teally think its too much of an issue.
I very rarely EDC my fixed blades I have a minimalist and a qsp Canary neck knife I like the neck carry but like u said just around the house but I do have an ulti clip but IDK for my use I find a folder just easier to carry im not out there beating the crap outta my blades.
The Cub Scout pocket knife belt clip took both hands to get the knife off. I broke the liner lock because I got tired of how much trouble it was to close. I pretty much cut my thumb print off a few weeks later.
Thank you for touching on the “legality” aspect of carrying a fixed blade knife. Too many YT’rs just blindly recommend carrying various knives and firearms without ever mentioning the caveat of ensuring it is legal in the given jurisdiction. Commiefornia is a prime example of having some very specific laws against types and styles of knives that can be carried legally.
If you go to a church with a security guard, you're probably in the wrong place anyway, so I doubt you lost out on much...
Yeah yeah terrible to be a shepherd
Because of 9-11 & recent school shootings people in soft targets are on edge,so understand the fear, but disagree with that approach,if you're a law abbing citizen then no 1 should freak out,but be grateful for the added protection if needed 🙏🇺🇸

You live under a false sense of security
Well you went into a church. That's what they do is judge people. Virtue compliance.
Now that I'm retired, a fixed blade and a SAK combo is pretty much all I carry. Oh, and you're completely right about the weird looks that people give when you pull out a fixed blade in public, but I don't care. I'm too old to worry about other folks like that. Great video! 😁👊🏻
Pulling out your fixed blade in public is always risky. But good for you at your age.
My Buck 110 is 32 years old and is nearly indestructible. 110 in a sheath was very common when I was growing up.
You are spot on with the value. I have in my EDC rotation several fixed blades from Civivi and Sencut. All are sub $100 and have amazing quality. With prices today, you would be lucky to find anything usable in a similar price range.
The 40$ Kershaw assisted open folder i have carried for a decade has never let me down. Just saying...
Yah he almost missed the sheath a couple times in the video. Draw fast reholster slow.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
Teacup line lol@@Zeppathy
I think a folding knife is safer.
I've been carrying a Spyderco folding knife for over 30 years and never had a problem with reliability or anything else. One handed use has never been a problem either. I use it at least twice a day.
If I constantly needed to use a knife (15+ times a day) then I'd consider a fixed blade.
If you had to get a wild beast to stop pinning you to the ground, while biting you, would you rather have a folder or a fixed?
@@SavageAudits I think that only happens on Valentine's Day and his birthday
@@SavageAudits goofy argument that’s what a gun is for
You are definitely the reason why I have bought more small fixed blades and I am not mad about. They definitely make an awesome EDC!!
One of us, One of us lol
@@BestDamnEDCI guess it will come down to whose code I use to get the Lookout. 😁🤣
@@tr_edc78don’t use his Tim. Remember who picked your carry for EDC weekly 😂
My EDC is an ESEE-4 fixed blade... and I'm in love with it...
Same here, I only edc the folder when visiting/traveling through restrictive states.
Esee is my go to fixed blade
James S. NC
Never too old.....
LOL Ricky , that was great! "...he doesn't even work." 👍
It’s true. Look at him over there playing ping pong 😂
I only EDC fixed blades, 2.5-3 inch or so for urban/office carry, and 4-5 inch for home/outdoors. I think durability and cleanup are the best reasons.
appreciate the kind words Weston
Batoning with fixed blade is an ultimate test of how reliable and robust construction of the knife
And why baton with a lander of all things...
It sounds like you are obsessed too. 🤗😉🤗
People who are watching this video are a different echelon of people all together. They are not asking "why would anyone baton with a knife". We would especially want to know the full capability of a knife. And why we should carry such said knife. I respect your pov, just disagree with it.
If you have to baton, just carry a tomohawk or a hatchet.. batoning is a last resort
When I was a ductwork installer my primary edc blade was a CRKT minimalist bowie because I found a neck knife was super easy to get to in tight spaces
Great vid. So
Much emphasis on the familiar pocket clip type knives.
Had to add the pocket clip but it wasn't more than 25 bucks and now you can EDC it
I have a fixd blade knife I bought from Wal-mart, 3 in tanto blade/black finish/Kydex sheath I love it.
Have a good day
Commiefornia!!
Carry concealed folder in open position in Commie Kalifornia always
I carry a fixed blade, and a folder.
Both with 3.0" blades.
Although when I go fishin, I carry my SOG 6.0" fixed blade.
Fun stuff!
I got me the MKM pocket tango in the nesmuck configuration and edc’d for 2-3 months, love it
Picking up my first fixed blade EDC this week (Asher Lil Buddy in S90V) this week...thanks for your videos!
my edc is a small 3 blade pen knife and a surge Leatherman.
I carry two fixed blades, the Big i lookout in pocket and bmkt EDC1 Bowie on my belt, and a slip joint on my belt.
BMKT EDC1 is 🤌🏻
Finally bought an UltiClip and attached it to my boker nessi pro. Great pocket carry.
Waiting for the beckwith covert knife for my next fixed DDC (defensive daily carry).
My Beretta 101B knife still has great lock-up after more than 20 years & it's been my EDC for as long, put it to good use.
Been Edc'ing my Tj Schwarz Overland Sport daily since getting it about 3 months ago. Havent carried anything else much anymore.
I EDC various Cold Steel 5.5" and larger folding knives with the Tri-AD lock. It's basically a folding large fixed blade
that's why i'm always go with cold steel recon 1, those tri-ad lock never fail me
Same here I used to carry the recon now I'm diggin the verdict g10
Love em so much I learned how to make them
I'm not intending to argue.
I carry several different fixed blades in Oak City sheaths. Having the right sheath is what makes or breaks fixed blade EDC.
A winkler belt knife disappears in your pocket surprisingly well, I’ve downsized to an operator with the new sheath and it’s sweet AF.
I try to carry both. I have a small fixed blade and two folders in my pockets. Always one Cold Steel and one other really good knife. NEVER A LINRE LOCK KNIFE. Great video.
What kydex pocket holsters do you use? And what knives fit it?
I carry a folding box cutter. It’s versatile and does what it does best…cuts.
Cool mate. Just like when you first started BDedc, sitting on a sofa. Love it. Cheers from Christmas Island.
I was either a folder or otf but once I bought the TOPS SAW it has become my main carry. Great video.⚔️🤘⚔️
I doubt I will ever carry another folder.
best damn edc is victorinox. it`s got everything needed for everyday, unlike just the knife. even a toothpick!
NC defines concealed carrying as any weapon that is covered or hidden by or within clothing.
I EDC neck Knives love love my Rainer fastpak...what's on your neck ? with the wet stone
Big fan of pocket fixed blades, but still working on finding the one that fits me.
Side note: Mummert Knives makes some cool pocket clips as well.
What knife was on the strap across his chest during the intro of the video?
I like the 10 in. fixed blade. What's the brand and model?
Cold steel Triad lock is strong for folder
Yes ! The Mora 'heavy duty' O.D.Green. $ 25.00 max. Amazon. My 'outdoor' knife !! Love it !! 🏞
I Like Both!! I've been buying TKELL Knives pretty Awesome!!
I assume that anyone owning and/or carrying any weapon would first check the legality in their location (if that's important to them).
