springbank should sell directly to the public via mail order/limit the bottles per address. they could create a seperate division to the distillery, creating even more employment in their community.

We ate lunch in the bar after our tour before heading to Islay. Loved our morning at Springbank and would love to go back! Sadly, when we were there, only demijohn whisky was available in the shop and I did not get any. Would on the next visit.

    3. takeaways from tonight's vpub:
    1. Ask a straight question and you get a straight answer - how open were these folks. No fluff, no marketing spiel!!
    2. That honesty permeates everything they do and tonight made me feel quite nostalgic for my visit there last year. enjoyed my FFB cage bottle - which is a rare dram for me.
    3. I enjoyed watching Roy fanboy out, especially when they cracked out the 16yo local barley.
    instant classic.

@aqvavitae Roy thank you and the full team at Springbank for bringing us all an uniquely wonderful and insightful chat, with no one hiding behind any marketing strategies or looking to become pollutant of advertising via social media.
I’ve always loved Springbank and Hazelburn, before realising how popular it really was. Recently bought myself Kilkerran and loved this as well.
All bottles I have purchased have been opened and finished. My most gutting moment is visiting Campbeltown and Islay in between lock downs but was unable to take a tour etc.
Now having recently moved to Australia I really hope I will be able to have another opportunity just to go and purchase a dram or a bottle to reminisce myself with a great dram fuelled with my local villages peat.
Enjoying the catch up with the Scozzie batch 3 springbank and Amber lane blend.

The one thing I regret not doing more is buy more drams at the washback bar, next time I swing around the toon I'll be there from open to close
Missed it live again but enjoyed the replay every single bit, hands down my favourite remote vPub.
Wonder if the 15 year old fino single cask kilkerran is still around!

this is a wonderful video highlighting the exorbitant unfair prices we are paying for Springbank whisky, from my perspective Australia is one of the worst places to buy springbank whisky we understand the taxes involved but the prices we are paying is a disgrace. Well done Roy and thank you for highlighting this issue, i am sure Springbank can help change this

Interesting to hear from them, it’s clearly infinitely more complicated that we give it credit for. They seem like really nice guy and it’s excellent whisky but in 3 years I haven’t managed to obtain the local barely, 15, 18, 21 or any limited releases and apparently even if I drive 300 miles to the distillery I still can’t get an 18 😂. I’m a man of straw and can’t afford to pay over retail, so Springbank may as well be Macallan to me, sadly that makes it a little boring to talk about. Sorry. I loved the honest to a malt podcast springbank episode, it’s great but it’s gone. Let’s talk about the also excellent and fabulously available glen scotia and benromach instead. 🎉

Just opened an Hazelburn 10, first impression juicy fruit chewing gum and the best Irish whiskey I have tasted in a long time, kudos. I can say these things I grew up in Parliament Place.....if you know, you know.

This vPub was fantastic and has further fuelled my curiosity to finally embark on a long-procrastinated trip to Campbeltown and explore the distilleries there, visit Cadenheads etc.

Thanks, and thanks to the guys at Springbank for making it possible and for participating. What a group of fantastic people!
For someone like me, who almost felt like losing a close friend or a loved one (when the nearby Cadenheads shop in Denmark closed) it was such a... well for lack of a better term - relief to hear Ranald explain the considerations and reasons behind the decision to stop the non-UK Cadenheads shops. Well "relief" is not the word, but I hope it makes sense nonetheless. Still sad of course, but at least now the understanding is complete.

Was tucked up in bed when this went kive (04.45 early shift start) so I'm catching up again on a Friday night.
Dram of Springbank 15 in hand and a big smile on my face.
Interesting, informative and very much pre crazy days fanboy fulfillment.
Thanks Roy and the team at Springbank..

Great topic again. Try to focus on the 10 and 15 today. They're more or less in my reach. The 12 cs, 18, local barley and other expensive or scarce stuff, I always try to taste at whiskyfestivals. No hard feelings Springbank. They're honest and transparant about it.

Hi Roy, one of the most informative vPubs ever! Thanks. Love Springbank. It is available here in AZ but the 10 year old has gone up from $80.00 to $100.00. Still not outrageous.

Great vPub with so much info…. And I’m not even half through. It’s winter in NZ and i was on and off sick for weeks, passing it around between my small kids, partner and me. Today finally able to smell and taste whisky again. Enjoying some SB and watching the replay… so nice to have this back!
Thanks Roy for all your work…. It’s really like listening to friends chatting. Especially valuable when you live so far away from it all!
Can’t wait to come over and visit at some stage!
    Cheers!

Can't get Springbank in Australia anymore and when you do see it it's ridiculously priced ... like $400+ (200 UK pounds) for a Springbank 10.

  • @davidm_shaw

In Australia, Springbank 10 is going for $200; I’ve seen the 18 y/o for $900; and the local barley 11 y/o for $1,000. The gouging is outrageous. Don’t know if it’s the wholesalers or retailers, but it’s brutal.

What a bummer! I wouldn’t have guessed that… in NZ it’s still around 100NZ$ . But we got an amazing shop/importer here with Whisky Galore. you gotta be quick though….. or lucky when there's a ballot.

    • @davidm_shaw
      @davidm_shaw 10 місяців тому +1

@@kiwigor , Whisky Galore are great. I managed to score a SB10 from them and get it to Aust for $140 incl. shipping. The gov't were even kind enough to let it pass through customs without taxing it. I've also scored Ardnamurchan CS from WG at a good price, but unfortunately, Aust customs held that one up and I had to pay the taxes. Ordering from overseas is a lottery here.

    • @kiwigor
      @kiwigor 10 місяців тому +1

I just love it when you take us into these cathedrals of whisky and connect us with the people responsible for our favourite liquid. I'm very priviliged to still have something from these distilleries to enjoy while catching up on the replay (Longrow Peated and Kilkerran WIP). I already thought that every drop of it is pure gold but have an even greater appreciation now thanks to the insight from this vPub. If the folks from the distillery are reading this, I hope they know how much their quality product is appreciated far and wide. Cheers
