    I have the Pinnacle Deluxe and the Angry Charlie V3. I like them both, but it's the Pinnacle that stays on the board. The Angry Charlie has a grainier feel to it and is no where near as dynamic as the Wampler. The Pinnacle is smoother overall. Both work great, it just depends on what is more pleasing to your own ear.

      I'm finding our the same. I have the Andy Timmons signature model of the Angry Charlie but recently got a Pinnacle Deluxe v2. I already liked the amp like feel of the JHS but the Wampler feels even better and sounds chunkier. It's also a lot more veratile with the full 2 bands EQ. In vintage mode, the Pinnacle has a more realistic Marshall like mids bite and on Modern with the Boost toggle on it also nails the JCM-800 tone better. Awesome pedal! But it needs getting used to though. The EQ as is typical of Wampler is VERY interactive and you can't be afraid of turning the knobs to extreme settings.

      That's a tough choice honestly. I feel the Angry Charlie might have better harmonics and the Pinnacle has better dynamics but overall both are fantastic and very similar sounding pedals.

    In this demo - I agree the Wampler Pinnacle sounded best to my ears. However I have owned both the MI Super Crunch Box & Pinnacle and still have the Crunch Box on pedal board. A few reasons - the Pinnacle has a heavy bass presence - something I didnt desire and could'nt dial out, secondly the sag (ie. compression). The compression is too much and affects the performance of the wah where there is some apparent volume loss (especially the bass end of wah). This is not the pedals fault, just part of the Wampler pedal DNA - great pedal - but horses for courses.

    I have both the angry charlie and pinnacle. On fender tube amp the angry is by far better. No doubt is possible : the wampler sounds electronic and harsh with the trebble (or lacking definition if you turnthe contour down), While the angry sounds like a big jcm 800: i was so surprised by the natural sound. If you have ever player on a true big amp you will be surprised by t he fact that is is less agressive than most distorsion pedals. So thank you for the good demo but we listen through a smartphone or a hifi device : it may je totally misleading. I have used the wampler on mesa as well (with good fender custom Shop strat) : as well disappointing to my ears. As to the comparaison with the 2 other pedals I did not owe them. The crunch looks good and not harsh. Thanks again for the excellent demo!!!

    So. Three variant clones of the SCB and the Bogner?
    SCB takes some tweaking but is my fave apart from the mighty Greer Amps Little Samson

    The Bogner Pedals are by far the better quality option - The La Grange is a killer Pedal

    The Bogner at higher gains sounds smoother than the others. Running up the Wampler.

    Hey Lorenzo, if you’re still looking at this, I’d be interested in the Angry Charlie schematic or layout you used. There’s a lot online, and I’m not sure which one to try. Thanks for the shootout!

    I refuse to buy a drive pedal that doesnt have a built in noise gate. The Bogner and Wampler are amazing but at gigs they will hum out of control at louder settings. Nope.

    • @lorenzo-marra
      @lorenzo-marra  2 роки тому

      well, they should be designed to emulate an amp that won't have a noise gate on board, at least the ones that are emulated.
      I see your point though, I love the pinnacle but I've never been able to use it with the boost activated and that's a pity... I reach the same (or so) gain and feel boosting it with a tumnus deluxe or a bb preamp but it would have been great if it was quieter...

    • @fidesetratio77
      @fidesetratio77 2 роки тому

      I understand what your saying - they can get pretty noisy with hum, especially if you get that 60 cycle um with single coil guitars! Its natural all drive pedals are generally noisy (though my Mesa Flux Drive is probably quietest I have ever owned) - in our rock cover band this wasn't such a problem however in a worship band I had to get a noise gate, and honestly I use it for bass too so its pretty handy. I find in these cases its really important for good quality leads!
