  • This is MY complete heavy set up for popping and stickbaiting. Whilst I’m aware some fisheries require PE10 or even PE12, my PE8 set up is as much as I can physically manage. It consists of:
Temple Reef Ronin EXP 83-8 rod (review here)
    • Temple Reef Ronin EXP8...
Shimano Twinpower SW14000XG-C reel (review here)
    • Shimano Twinpower SW14...
    Tasline Elite PE8 braid
    Varivas Ocean Record 180-220lb leader
    NT size 1/0 swivel

Would be interesting how you pack your luggage for a trip since you are using travel rods. Most 3 piece travel popping rods are quite long. Would be cool to get a „How to pack your luggage for a fishing trip overseas“ video. Tight lines!

Good idea, yes they are still long despite being travel rods. I’ll see how I get on with British Airways at the end of November and report back 👍

The temple reef ronin 8’3 is an outstanding rod and one that I’ve landed bluefin tuna on in the 200lb class. The max drag rating at 45 degrees is even on the safe side as I have pushed that rod to 14 KG with some moderate high sticking (60 degrees or so)

And when the boys on PE10-12 setups are smoked you’ll still have a lure in the water! I’ve found that if 100lb braid and 200lb leader on a PE-8 setup isn’t stopping the fish, nothing is. The only time those rods come into play is when a GT is on its side or a tuna is doing a pinwheel under the boat and the lifting power helps. But at that point the fish is already whipped and I’d rather have the softer tip to prevent throwing hooks (or my back out!)

What weight on your braid for that 14k saragosa? I travel to the northern side of the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and Southern California, where there's plenty of blue water fishing. I enjoy your channel; though I wish they were a bit longer..
