I've been trying to do surf perch fishing and I've never seen such low wave action anywhere from San Francisco all the way down to HMB. I need to find a beach like that south of the GGB.
The limit used to be 20. They dropped it to ten per species which is low enough. You can still get a mixed bag at 20 fish. Don't give the state any more ideas....they are stupid enough already. I spent a day in Pacifica on the pier and then a couple hours on the beach. Caught zip. The fish are there. But, they are finicky at times. The pier rats were catching limits of shiners, but I was hoping for bigger. I only get to go a few times a year as I am now retired and don't live in the bay area.
Great video Adam! So I fished Surfperch commercially for many years and would regularly bag 100lbs in one morning. I've performed many "C sections" and those babies are very hearty, strong and born ready to handle the surf so 90% survive, I mean you watch them swim away and I've never seen one wash up on the beach. Fact: A Surfperch stays within 5 miles of their birthplace their whole life and the little 3 mile stretch of beach myself and others fished commercially never got fished out, it's a very sustainable fishery. Probably why the sport limit is 10.

The reason we kept them alive is the price per pound was $10 to $20 as opposed to $2 to $4 per pound for the same fish dead. And the fish were kept alive until they reached the ultimate consumer. Nothing beats fresh fish and people pay a premium for it!

10 is a lot for surf perch i agree. Seems wrong to squeeze out those baby surf perch out of the females, but its good to see they were swimming right when they hit the water.
I think 10 is a good number. If you don't need ten, then catch only what you need. Some people have more people to feed or want to keep some in the freezer because they don't live near the surf. If people are catching more than ten perch they're going to do it anyway regardless of what the legal limit is.
10 limit is a fair number. Especially those who’s driving miles, plus toll to get to the shoreline for fresh caught fish. Family and friends REALLY appreciate it 😁

I feel your pain. Up until yesterday, I have only caught 11 perch this year. Only one was decent. Yesterday I doubled my numbers with most of them reasonably sized.

I've been out there on high tide and low tide... like I said, it might be the area, there have also been other fishermen and nothing, I see them walk away, I'm the last one to leave... what are you guys thoughts on the solunar times???

A little late to comment on this one, but I’ve felt like this year in particular has been rougher for the surf perch. Haven’t been able to find those big schools as consistently as the prior years. Not sure if you feel the same way; maybe it is time to revisit the limit.

@@DarrylLicudine If your referring to sand fleas (mole crabs) Bait for perch and stripers ETC. the limit is 50 These are the ones you catch off the beach in the surf . (Sand crabs ) can refer to a number of species of eating crabs like yellows, slender, and a few others where the limit is 35. Go to the DFW ocean recreational fishing website, the info on crabs is located at 29.85. Sand fleas are listed under 29.85 part (D).

put a limit on females of 3 a day and keep the 10 a day bag limit, i think its a smart way. not all of us are good at finding a 10 fish day or fish allot so we can still have a couple meals in the freezer.

Good one Adam. No issues with keeping the couple you did. It's socially acceptable and almost encouraged to get salmon for their roe.... at least with live birth they were born first!
I would say 10 cause not all of them are 3 pounders. I say this because some people I see fish come from like an hour's drive or more. So for them I would say 10 cause who knows how often they get to fish. I live 10 minutes from the beach so I keep 3-5 and I'm good, unless I'm going to give some away. I prefer them fresh instead of stocking up in the freezer.
Explain the logic. If one feeds 1 person, then the limit should be one for each license. Why did you pick 5? 10 can feed 10 people or one person for 10 days. Not everyone fishes every day. Some of us fish the ocean once a year.

First really enjoy your channel content but would like to see some different content. Yo why no crabbing videos. Dungeness Crab season is closing soon and I just feel like everyone has been avoid catching crab . Why not take Red Rock crab with not in Dungeness Season? Do you know how to take crab by crab snare? What about night fishing or twlight fishing? Using Lighting to attract fish. Fishing the Delta for other species (Shad, catfish, blue gil, strippers). What about fishing for crawfish? Fishing a Lake like New Melones that allows you to fish overnight on the water.
That’s right, I have to drive an hour to get there and so in reality I go once a year surf fishing and even then I don’t catch anything!! Super commuters 10 Locals 5.
