Thank you so much PK After watching your videos i was able to catch my first barred surf perch today. got five nice keppers and will be making my first fish tacos tonight!
Back in 2014, the last time I was in Newport. I went walking on Nye Beach, during an extremely low tide. It was interesting to see the bottom contours of the exposed beach. I saw where water had carved shallow channels and holes. I wish I'd been able to fish it back then. Not sure I will ever get back to the Oregon Coast. Any ways, it is almost fishing season where I live. Time to get my license at least, and check over my gear. So take care and Tight Lines.
Very helpful video. Thank you. 👏🏻 For someone who wants to get into CA/OR surf fishing for the first time, what rod, reel, and line setup do you recommend?
I've used Braided line before. I just cannot get the casting distance I can with good Mono. Like Ande Tourny grade line. I do know that braid is much more sensitive, so maybe I'm doing something wrong :)
@@bradlyons5760 Brandon is perch city! You can use a spark plug and catch them. Try 3 hook hi-lo rig, #2hooks, gulp shrimp 2”, 2 oz weight (mono leader). And also sand worms. Camp color, 2”
Excellent question and one I had, too. I couldnt figure out if he meant to walk out to the sandbar and cast out from there or cast to the sandbar. At one point in the video, he notes that off of the sandbar there's dark water which I suppose is deep bt the way he said it implied you shouldnt fish that darker water beyond the sand bar.
I’m confused. At low tide it seems you are saying to stand on the sandbar and fish and then at high tide to stand in the trough (or close to) and fish? Or do you mean that one should place their baits on the sandbar at low tide?

The experience of a fisherman beats science when it comes to fishing everyday!

I absolutely love all that you've done on your channel! Keep up the great work
Good info I appreciate it.
An excellent dissertation of reading the surf, finding the holes, front and back channel!
I haven’t been surf perch fishing in a couple of years now. Need to get out there again with you. Nice tutorial on reading the beach! See you soon.
Thanks! I need to get better at recognizing the coastal structures.
Conditions still too messy in Humboldt County. 🤞 next month.

Yes, that's what he said. He mentioned how careful you have to be, and keep an eye on incoming tide. Getting back safe is more important than any fish
I thought you use size 4 gam
And thank you for the information
@@ronhanson6129 In another video he was talking about switching between the size 2 and size 4 depending on the size of bait he was using.
