I love how the great pedal makers are also just super great people. Keeley, Josh from JHS and Brian are just a few examples but all super friendly and knowledgeable and they all advertise all kinds of pedals, not just their own. Just ordered my first two wampler pedals, a tumnus deluxe and a ratsbane, replacing a sugar drive and a bd2.
Brian, I'm from Brazil, I own one of your pedals and I would like to say that you have the best pedals I've ever played. Thank you for your fabulous work.
I watched the Ratsbane announcement a few minutes after it posted, hit pause, found it on Sweetwater, ordered it, it arrived yesterday and now it is in my sweaty hands, most excellent!
So glad he’s on UA-cam. Brian seems like such a great dude that loves his craft and enjoys showing his methods. Super helpful, super interesting and tons of fun to watch! Thank you kind sir.
I just watched Pete Thorn's review of this pedal. He did a great job at showing how many different ways you can use this pedal, even on bass guitar! This pedal is fantastic! Seriously! You can do so much with it and it will sound great on any type of amp, whether you have a "bright" amp or a "warmer" amp.
I just ordered mine last night! It will be my first Wampler pedal. I made a joke on FB about Brian and he responded with a great sense of humor. A true gentleman, and cool guy. I'm so excited for this. I've been thinking about getting a rat for a while. I'm actually from Kalamazoo and I always wondered what was happening at that ProCo place and why all those metal heads were always outside smoking.
Like it says on the Tumnus which I love, it's available! Which is way better and easier than chasing down vintage units. Although I'm not sure about the Rat availability.
Safe to say this will officially bump my Mooer Black Secret off the board. Better build quality and MUCHO versatility. I find every tone you pulled up to be quite gig worthy. Bravo Brian!!
The Black Secret has opened my eyes to Rat-style pedals! It's my favourite distortion pedal at the moment and I'm looking for an upgrade regarding build-quality. Because the sound from the Mooer is great actually!
This pedal honestly sounds amazing. I would kill to have such a flexible rat sounding effect. Congratulations Brian. You continue to amaze us with your ability to grace the market with your talent. Thank you and rock on
Brian!!! You.. are.. da.... MAN!! I play guitar with Tommy Emmanuel and many other artists down here in Australia, and not only have I destroyed all my old Rats (I even have one of the original big bodied ones) from many many years of international touring, but to have YOUR mind do a re-creation is a dream come true. And may i say, while i'm at it here.. thank you so much for being a pedal designer that isn't 'anonymous', and that you do your own wonderful youtube videos and 'get amongst the people', so to speak. Its really awesome. This will be a wonderful addition to my other Wampler pedals. With great gratitude, Simon Hosford.
Man…..this pedal with the gain dialed back, and used to tighten up a pushed Marshall styled amp is absolutely magical….very Nuno Bettencourt-esq (first Extreme cd). Apparently, he used it to hit the front of a JCM 800 in that exact manner. And, his tone on that record is right up there with DiMartini (Invasion) and EVH (Fair Warning), IMO. For whatever reason, you don’t se see any UA-cam demo’s with it dialed in like that..
Sounds amazing! Can't wait to get my hand on one! I have to agree with another commenter that I wish it wasn't mini. Top-mounted regular size takes basically the same space on a board and knobs are not so small and crowded. I guess there's more demand for minis, oh well...
Brian, I just wanted to say I have all the respect in the world for you because you never do a straight up copy of anything. It always has your signature. I’m absolutely in love with the Euphoria. That, the hot tubes, and the ODR are about the only dirt pedals that sound good with my AC4 because it needs added bass content. Keep up the good work. I’m sure I’ll end up with more of your pedals.
This looks awesome! Can't wait to check it out at my local store when they reopen. If only it had been called the WampRat from Star Wars. Maybe that's trademarked already though.
Around 3:44, there's a cool riff that shows off this pedal's note articulation masterfully!🔥 The distortion knob was turned all the way UP, but you don't lose your musical foundation. Well done!
Ok, just ordered one. Not only did you nail what I would tweak on a Rat, you thoughtfully included the op-amp socket!! Thank you!! I have used Rats for 35years and the LM308N chip does make a difference on a Rat. That voice switch is a godsend. Rats can tend to get a bit boomy. Get on a wooden stage and it can be ridiculous. Rolling off some lows while bumping 800hz-4khz is PERFECT! Thanks!!! BTW, this is my first Wampler pedal.
Well...I got my Ratsbane yesterday and I have to say,I am impressed.Every setting that I used was actually useful, musical and feel great under the fingers.Naturally it has a ton of gain (with a respectable noise floor) but even at low gain or low guitar volume,it still has a very full, pleasing tone. All in all...good job sir!
Now that's my kind of demo, no waffle, no gilding the lily, just straight forward "it does this " Damn you and yer hard sell! Looks like I'm putting me hand in me pocket again!
I just got this, and it’s so much fun. Right back to 1994, chunking on stoner riffs and bending nasty fills. The flexibility is a big step up from the OG Rat. Fu Manchu, Pumpkins, Soundgarden. If you want a creative kick in the pants to reactivate your doom brain, grab this one. All of the Wampler mini drives are killer, for that matter - smart options, primo builds, highly usable tones with great range within each circuit. I guess I’ve reached Wampler fanboy status, but it’s totally Brian’s fault; the guy just keeps innovating in the most musically helpful ways.
Thanks man... your pedals are one of the very few brands I trust out the gate. I know that ANY Wampler pedal I buy will be great and will last. I've never been let down by a Wampler pedal! This one's on the list 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
This afternoon: thinking I would put a Rat in my rig, if only it was a little bit smaller and more tweekable. Then I saw this. Brian is strong with the force no doubt 👍😁
So on the same day Josh Scott at JHS says the "rarest pedal in the world" is essentially a Rat circuit but he won't clone it to "preserve the mystery", and Brian Wampler announces that he's gone ahead and made a Rat clone/variant.
In '75 I had Charlie Wicks at ProCo build me some extension speakers for a Twin Reverb I had. To thank him for a tour of the place; I tossed in a overdrive or distortion pedal he said they just made. The brand name on it was Systech. This was before they made the Rat. I don't know anything about how close the design was to a Rat but it's sound was kind of like early Black Keys stuff.
I was kinda looking for a Rat circuit for a while. This sounds awesome and does so much more. I've never pulled the trigger so quickly on a new release that I remember. I'm sold. Dang, Brian. Ratsbane is on its way.
First of all, fantastic job on that pedal. Second, fantastic job on the demo video. Third, I totally love the additional Pedal Nerd stuff at the end. I wish recipe bloggers would follow this order...
Still have my 1986 Rat. Bought it for the Master of Puppets opening dates back in the day. It’s never broke down. That’s a pedal. It does one thing, but it does it really, really well. No duplicates.
I was interested in this pedal as soon as I found out about it but was trying to tell myself to put it off for a while. I watched a few demos and was even more tempted, but this video is what cinched it. Not only Brian's playing, but also his charisma and earnest are what made me say, "Yeah, I'm spending money on this." Just ordered it. Anyone want to buy my Rat?
I got this. And the voice switch on the right position is genius! Other settings are great, but that's what sets this apart from others! I have Tumnus Deluxe, Plexidrive deluxe and Ratsbane now on my board, i am a happy camper!!
I love seeing Brian this stoked on a new dirt pedal! Sounds awesome, man! I’m adding it to my list of Wampler stuff I need. He loves dirt pedals. He loves making dirt pedals. And I love that.
Great pedal! Used a rat all through to 80's and this pedal is every bit as good, even better considering the extended options. Wish it was bigger but other than that it kills.
Just picked one of these up today! Its like my Rat but on steroids!! I love it!! Can't wait to put it through its paces and see how far I can push it this week!
Love it for the graphics alone!! A plague doctor! So fitting for our times. Reminds of when I lived in the USA a few years ago and my son went out at Haloween dressed as a plague doctor and very few people knew what he was!?! I love the fleibility you have built in to this. I have a Jam Pedals Rattler which is going to have a little competition for 'board space now.
Had a 90's Korean dot that I sold and constantly kick myself for! I've bought and sold numerous Gibson's, but I miss the epi dot more than any except the lp standard dc, and those are close.
I really can't justify buying a Gibson Standard or Fender AmPro when Epiphone and Squier stuff is so good. It's not every bit as good but it's certainly not 5-10x worse than the real deal. My Affinity Strat is the only guitar I own that I would never part with
nice Brian, now can you do a video of how to power all these pedals of yours we're trying to fit on our pedal board. but seriously, loving lots of your pedals.

Memorial Day sales work... just bought this puppy. Watching this vid for course credit at Wampler University... Looking forward to exploring this pedal!
Here we go again. Awesome, gotta have it.been waiting to buy a rat ,it has been a staple for yrs if thats what you need, and this thing goes way beyond that but in the same wheelhouse, it sounds great .fantastic job !!

REALLY digging this pedal and your voicing especially. Try an LT1357 op amp. Quiet, plenty of bite and tight bass but a little less harshness/ear fatigue vs the stock TL071
Stock mode definitely sounds like a vintage RAT or big box reissue. The options to change gain, clipping and EQ really makes it much more versatile though. You've got boost, vintage overdrive, fuzz, and modern distortion in one small enclosure. Well done!
How is this not called the "Wamprat"?
Missed opportunity for sure
Pretty sure some "friendly rat" would come by his house with a lawsuit
@@thekramer1097 or at least a union protest with the giant blow up rat

I have the Tumnus Deluxe and love the thing as a full bore lead tone - how you liking it so far?
I'd keep the BD-2 for a perfect trio of gain staging
Didn't Luke Skywalker used to bullseye Wamprats all the time?
Yep in his T16 back home
They’re not much bigger than two meters.
I WAS GONNA SAY THAT. DAMMIT
That should have been the name of the pedal. Wamprat...
@@Samana009 they would almost certainly get a cease and desist letter for that. Many pedal companies get them.

True.
I just got this pedal and use it as a clean boost. This pedal added so much to my tone. LOVE THIS PEDAL.

Mr Wampler is a gift to Guitarkind.
I love how Brian doesn’t try to be coy about making a clone. He’s just like, “yeah I made a RAT, here it is”. 😂
Dude, Mr. Wampler did not make a clone...that's just it. This thing is wayyyyy better than a Proco Rat.
Wampler pedals are never direct clones. He always says they're his take on that style of pedal
Like it says on the Tumnus which I love, it's available! Which is way better and easier than chasing down vintage units. Although I'm not sure about the Rat availability.
ANNNNDDDD I'm buying another Wampler pedal.
My thoughts exactly
As am I....
Is there a 12 step group for us yet?
Me too...
Why don’t you buy the real thing ? I bet it is cheaper too. And it looks so much better.
Amen!
Another fantastic pedal from Brian Wampler. He's a great guy and world class pedal designer/builder . Been waiting for this 🐭 for a long time !!
Safe to say this will officially bump my Mooer Black Secret off the board.

Always wanted a Black Secret but never pulled the trigger. Guess I was just waiting for Brian to show me the way to Maximum Ratness
I've been eyeballing this one for a little while now, and I finally got one.
I love it!

Yeah.. that's nice. You are an artist sir. I can tell that will sound good infront of any amp.

I bought 2 EQuator pedals because I think they are fantastic!...thanks for making them Brian.
Dude putting that socket in is such a good idea. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these!
Holy crap, now I know how to play "Everlong"
Bonus round!
Nice Foo Fighters lick! Love my Rat too.
Great pedal! Used a rat all through to 80's and this pedal is every bit as good, even better considering the extended options. Wish it was bigger but other than that it kills.
I have a early 90's ProCo Big box, avec LM308, and this is pretty much interchangeable to my ears with more options.
I need one of this! Sounds awesome and it’s SMALL! I do have a old Rat with LM308 chip, but that pedal is heavy, falloff the pedalboard all the time…
SuperWampler. Wampler pedals are so good merci beaucoup

sounds nice. a drive/distortion that can get fuzzy. now i have to go order one when i get home from work.
Love the moniker!
The modern side of the voice is absolutely amazing! I honestly prefer that tone more than the vintage pro-co.
