APOTHECARY / INDUSTRIAL DUPE- making pine look OLD || Dresser Makeover

  • This is pretty much the OPPOSITE of what I typically do for my furniture flips. Normally, I try to remove gouges and marks. Here, I'm actually ADDING THEM!
I turned this "dated" (subjective) orange-y pine dresser into a fun apothecary style piece using some different tools to mar and "age" the wood prior to staining. This dresser isn't TECHNICALLY new wood, but it's being sanded down to the raw wood, so the application of the faux "aging" process would be the same.
Adding some black library catalog style pulls completes the look, and I love how this turned out! In fact, our headboard is reclaimed barn wood and I'm thinking this might make a pretty sweet addition to our room if it happens to not sell right away!

You are different from other channels in that you don’t give every piece a standard treatment. It takes good taste to know what is adequate for every piece. I love the results!

I like the way you did the side. This is very industrial; it looks like aged pallet wood. You did a great job on this! Very different than what you usually do but that’s why I love your channel! Always fresh and original ideas!🌸

Well, if anyone could do something that is not my cup of tea, and make it look at least at least decent to somewhat good to me, it is you. Of course you, as usual, made a very good video and demonstrated interesting techniques. Thanks.

I love this piece! The stain color and distressing are fabulous! I’m inspired to try this on a pine trestle table that my dad built in the ‘70’s. It was a dark walnut stain originally, but he refinished it to gunstock in the ‘80’s. I think it’s time to take it back to its roots. Thanks for the inspiration!

There was a furniture manufacturer here in my hometown that would “distress” wood by beating it with chains and hammers and adding “worm holes” as you did. Love it!

My sister still has the most sturdy set done in the late 70s. The colour of stain is similar to what Angie's used (everything old is new again). I'm glad for this reminder because there are so many "built like Noah's ark" pine pieces out there that you don't want to do with a perfect finish, not to mention the knots. May just pick some up.

I would love to get your input on a dining room set I want to redo. I struggle deciding on paint and stain colors. This set is approximately 80+ years old and needs updating. I probably wouldn’t touch it, but my girls spilled polish remover on the table years ago and ruined the finish. Your work is amazing and so inspiring!!! I redid our 1940 bedroom suit and I love it!!!! I would have never had the courage or vision without your videos. Thank you!

Years ago (I’m oooold) a friend of mine use to use a chain. He would lay it on the wood in a random pattern and then hit it here and there with a hammer. The “soft” dents looked like pretty normal wear for an “old” piece. I love your work Angie.

Could be a beading/cove bit (1/4" maybe?) that created the grooves. Don't be afraid of the router. It's an amazingly versatile tool. Just give it the respect it deserves, learn how to use it properly and safely and you'll wonder how you got along without one.

Practicing on a scrap piece of wood before you start on your actual piece is a great idea and good practice. A new bit, different wood; it’s always better to find out how everything is going to work/feel on something you won’t regret ruining first.

I have similar pine pieces as she started with, a glass door hutch and a jelly cupboard. Had them for years, usually using them in the bedroom to hold my clothes. Got any color ideas for me? I may actually put them in the dining area open to the kitchen, and that is currently light gray to match the lux vinyl gray floors. Also, if I replace the kitchen cabinets (cheap builders units painted light gray), what is on trend that will give me good resale if I want to sell in one or two years? Charcoal, black or white?
