    YASOU, Ken! I made these feta-stuffed meatballs last night using ground lamb. Man, were they delicious!! They were the star of my Greek appetizer tray that included dolmades, spanakopita rolls, kalamari, melitzanosalata, skordalia, and an assortment of olives and grapes. Those meatballs disappeared in less than 2 minutes!!! Next time I make them they'll have to be larger and served over spaghetti, like family style. Sounds good??? Thanks for continually sharing with us your creative ways of enhancing the world's best and most healthy cuisine . . . . . . . . The Greek Cuisine!!

    I have made these before, and they are indeed spectacular. You were quite right about the aroma, cooking keftedes really perfumes your kitchen, letting your guests know that something great is about to be served. Heck, makes me want to tie a couple of those meatballs on my rear view mirror for a really good car smell.

    MY. FAVOURITE. MEATBALLS!! Greek meatballs stuffed w feta! When I was in Greece, we had these in the Plaka (sorry if I didn't spell it right) in Athens. We lived on these and souvlaki (and Ouzo and wine, but not retsina. I just couldn't, lol.)
    The hotel we stayed at kept serving their version of Canadian food. We wanted authentic. So a couple guys who lived at the hotel (there were dozens of students living there) took us to the plaka for dinner and dancing (they even put me in a chair and lifted me!) several nights in a row. They had pretty girls (there were three of us) on their arm who helped them practice their English and we went to the places the locals went~not the touristy places. And they were perfect gentlemen. It was just lovely.
    OMG the memories, lol. I'm loving it!
    Question:
    Ken~do you have any idea what meat the souvlaki would have been? This was in 1971. We'd get it from street carts outside our hotel.
    Jenn

      @KensGreekTable  4 роки тому

      Haha thanks Jenn!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 And thank you for sharing your story. That sounded awesome!!! As for the meat of choice then (and now) for street souvlakia is, was and always will be pork!!!! No exceptions!!! 😂😂😂

      Good to hear, lol! I was sort of hoping it wasn't goat or mutton. Not that I wouldn't have still eaten it. It was spectacular! I vividly remember the gentleman who owned the cart. He was older and out every night at the same spot. We found out (through our student friends) that he also had a day job. He'd get up at noon, go to his other job, go home eat dinner and nap~then he'd be out til 3 or 4am because he loved his cart and meeting people, but couldn't make enough money, hence the daytime job. His wife did all the prep work and out he'd go. He especially liked students because they'd teach him things in exchange for free souvlaki. I think they were less than a dollar~I can't remember exactly how many drachma (spelling again 🤔) that was but I could have eaten just his souvlaki for all three meals. It was sooooo goood! I can still taste it!
      Thanks for dredging up these old, wonderful memories for me Ken, simply by cooking a dish.
      Jenn
