Reliving The War takes a look at the Monday Night War - The battle between WWF Raw and WCW Nitro that took place during the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. Professional Wrestling went through an incredible boom period during this time with WCW airing on TNT and WWF Raw airing on the USA Network, fans were spoilt for choice with both shows putting on great shows while trying to gain the lead in the TV ratings.
WCW have arrived to Panama City Beach for Spring Break. Nitro takes place at Club La Vela with the Nitro wrestling ring placed right in the middle of a swimming pool, and this week Ric Flair wants to give the whole WCW roster a chance to win the WCW World Championship. A special lottery (which J.J Dillon tries to rig) takes place and the winner of the lottery gets to wrestle Flair in the Nitro main event.
The WWF are 6 days away from WrestleMania XV and Stone Cold Steve Austin is ready to get his WWF Championship back. This week Stone Cold delivers some refreshments to The Corporation in one of the most memorable moments in Raw history, and Austin also wrestles in the main event where he faces "The Big Show" Paul Wight. Other superstars with matches this week include The Rock, Sable, Mankind, The Brood and X-Pac.

I'm happy because a lot of people are not very familiar with the last episodes of nitro. You know, personally I never liked Nitro very much or at all but I think there are some good stuff in nitro before it was over
@@ohmy4275 There was a lot of good wrestling going on towards the end, but the booking had become so desperate and incoherent. There wasn't a vision or direction after the New Blood angle flopped, as I recall.

It's sad because the bit was hilarious and completely harmless.

The Road Dogg is genuinely one of my all time favorite wrestlers and I enjoyed the Shut Up bit, guess some people get too over protective ;-;

It makes no sense in the context of the series. Anyone who watched it back in 1998/1999 would know just how over/popular the “ladies and gentlemen..” speech was. Bret in WCW, on the other hand, was so poorly booked that most people probably *did* want him to shut up at that time.
Plus, I’m sure it was a ton of effort to keep thinking of / creating new bits for it each and every week.

I remember in an interview with Bull that all the wrestlers were told not to go into the water to save it for Flair. Hammer wanted to go in anyway, and Bull had to stop him.
I was going to mention the same thing, Bull legit didn't want to go into the pool but Hammer kept motioning to the crowd that he was going to throw him in the pool for real. Bull finally stiffed Hammer with a punch to the face to get him to stop and so as a receipt Hammer planted Bull hard with his finisher.
I remember seeing that interview on an old Botchamania.

Shut up! And yeah, what’s the deal with that? Actually annoying as that was mine and a lot of others favorite running joke. Who knew that some Attitude Era fans were so soft over a harmless bit? The loud minority strikes again. I’m seeing nothing but comments like this so hopefully he changes his mind and doesn’t bend the knee to a couple of jobbers.

After watching the Hbomb video on plagiarism and content farming it makes me appreciate your approach to being a creator even more. Nothing you do feels lazy - I'm sure I am not the only one who notices all the subtle tweaks you make to the presentation to improve the flow and even to change with the respective products you're covering.

So many people we see in this series aren't around anymore. I try not to think about it too much when I watch "Reliving the War", but sometimes it hits me. There are some multi-person matches where everyone in it, except one or maybe two people, is dead now.

Oh yeah, we are fully in the time period I started watching as a fan of wrestling. This episode of Raw is just iconic, that beer truck, and freakin Vince swimming. I love this stuff and in all these years I completely forgot that the beer truck spot is how they kicked off the damn show, that screams "final shot of the not" but NAH NAH, WWF just gave that away at the beginning! Back in the day I did always enjoy Road Doggs "Ladies and Gentlement" bit, but I will miss the Bret Hart telling him to shut up on Reliving the War part. Either way you need to have Road Doggs full speech with the Bret Hart shut up part or with Road Dogg shouting the New Age Outlaws part. Only an animal would have neither, an animal, an animal!!!

It's how I feel, too, and also a little cringe, and a bit of secondhand embarrassment. I almost never watched WCW at all at this point but I remember WWF being nonstop excitement from opening to ending of the show but I guess maybe not.

Personally, I just watch for the recaps; the running bits/intros don’t do anything for me.

Legend has it that both Scott Hall & Kevin Nash had each drank a 24 pack a piece before even stumbling into Club Vela.
That’s more than legend. Nash confirmed it on Stone Cold’s podcast. He and Hall each drank a 12 pack of 16oz tallboys on the way to the club, then a few more each in Hogan’s trailer.

I remember this particular episode of RAW like it was yesterday. WM15 wasn't amazing but the lead up was an awesome time.

I think Bret's WCW run was underrated but also disappointing. Its better than I remember but maybe thats because on its own its good, but bigger picture Bret deserved more. Its like ordering filet mignon and only getting half of one.

The Rey/Flair match does make me think: had WCW continued on past 2001, would Rey have had a chance at being World Champ like he eventually did in 2006?
It depends on who would be running WCW in this theoretical future. If the Fusient deal had gone through, then I say no, because Eric Bischoff would have been too stubborn to give Rey his mask back.
WCWs eventual, and somewhat drawn out, demise gives me anxiety... but I can't look away.

I'm just going to say it... for BOTH companies this is the worst year of the war... I think they got so hot in 98 that the ratings are just based off that. Not what's going on week to week. I'd honestly take 2000 over 99 any day of the week 😂
I'll never forget watching this Raw on TV as it happened, the pop when Austin hit the stunner on Show was incredible, as was the opening with the beer truck. Also, Rock was entertaining as ever when he joined commentary for the main event.
People idolize CM Punk but he will never be on the same level as The Rock and Austin! I'm so glad I grew up with them. Look at how good wrestling was back then!

I remember watching those spring break Nitros. So fuckin cool when the helicopter dropped Sting into the ring in 98.
THAT Van Hammer match! So, if you look up interviews with Bull Payne, he rips on Van Hammer for this match.
Apparently they were both told "Stay away from the water! The big finish for the night is Ric is going in the water, so do NOT go into the water!"
Van Hammer, being the doofus that he is, was yelling at the crowd "Hey! Want me to throw him in the water!?"
Bull was resisting, and ended up hitting Van Hammer for real to make him stop trying to screw up the night. Van Hammer was all "YOU STIFFED ME MAN!" and Bull was all "WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO GO IN THE WATER STUPID!"
They renamed him "Major Stash" later for a reason. Because he's a dope.
The asshole drove his car while he was shitfaced and hit a little kid with it, in 2020. Thankfully, the child survived. He's no better than Tammy Sytch, he was just luckier than her. They should both be forced to detox completely - and then be donated to a zoo as lion food.
