When CM Punk made his WWE return, wrestling fans around the world thought that hell froze over. Punk making a WWE comeback felt impossible and many thought it would never happen, but this isn't the first time WWE has shocked viewers in this manner.
From Sting joining the WWE to Bruno Sammartino getting a Hall of Fame induction, from Bret Hart standing in the ring once again with Shawn Michaels to Vince McMahon purchasing WCW; these are some of the other moments in WWE history that hell froze over.

Bret coming back to WWE is a very underrated "Hell Froze Over" moment. After the death of his brother Owen, the Montreal Screwjob, and not feeling appreciated by Vince for all he had done during his time there, there was almost no way in hell The Excellence of Execution was ever coming back to the company.

Another "Hell Froze Over" moment would be Mickie James appearing in the 2022 Women's Royal Rumble while being Impact Knockouts World Champion. While the Rumble had featured talent from other promotions in the past (though the last time was back in the mid-90s), it had never featured someone who was another promotion's champion. Sure, WWE didn't seem to exactly plan for this (it was definitely more of a "we need more women for this Rumble", likely with a bit of "we also want to make good with Mickie after the whole trash bag incident"), but to see Mickie James come out on a major WWE event with the Knockouts Title around her waist, with "Hardcore Country" playing as her theme, & even getting her own unique name card (though WWE simply called her "Impact Women's Champion") was something I don't think anyone ever expected. All the way up to the event people simply assumed that Mickie would come out to her WWE theme & without the title, with commentary never acknowledging her as an Impact champion, and they were all proven wrong.
Hopefully, one day, this will start to become more of a common thing in future Rumble matches.

Warrior returning to WWE and being inducted into the HoF is a pretty big Hell Froze over moment, after years of issues seeing Warrior one last time in a WWE ring was crazy, and what made it more iconic is he passed away the day after his last TV appearance on RAW, its as if life had given him just enough time to fix things and return one last time.

AJ Styles making his WWE Debut at the 2016 Rumble felt like a Hell freezing over moment. This is a guy who was best known for being a TNA guy and at the time seeing him in a WWE ring was a very surreal sight. The fact that he would go on to become WWE Champion is also crazy that years before people would have been like "Not a chance". Only way you could top that imho is if say Kenny Omega unexpectedly showed up on Raw one week. AJ seemed like one of those guys you would never see in a WWE ring, and whilst we are kind of use to it now, it was almost hard to believe at the time.

Steve Austin wrestling a match, for the first time in almost 20 years.
Simply put, Steve Austin’s illustrious career was cut short because of the lingering neck injury, which forced him into retirement in 2003. Whilst other wrestlers made their in ring returns, Austin stayed out of wrestling. And for years, it seemed less likely we’d see him wrestle again. So you could imagine how shocking and surreal it was that in 2022, Austin would end up not only wrestling a match in almost 20 years, but a WrestleMania match in his home state of Texas.

Eric bischoffs return for me was the biggest surprise. This is the guy who started a ratings war against Vince. Literally the competition boss to now working with the company he was facing off against. It was mind blowing to me seeing him but then I realized the power of money. 20:30 i think Sting's bigger mistake was WHEN he came. From what i'Ve heard, WWE offered him a Wrestlemania program with UNdertaker (which, imho, would have all but guaranteed them doing their best to book the story well!) which would have happened THE SAME YEAR the Victory Road Fiasco happened. Sting should have taken that deal, maybe on a short term basis, avoided Victory Road, faced Undertaker and then, maybe returned to TNA or whatever. As it went, Sting faced Hardy, UNdertaker faced Michaels again.

I disagree. It was inevitable A.J. would eventually join WWE if he had half a brain. TNA was no wcw. Even in their worst days, the company had money which allowed Sting to stay all those years. TNA was a joke of a promotion. They didnt have the resources to keep AJ. All the stars left pretty much at once. Sting, Angle, A.J,. Karma or Awesome Kong, Samoa Joe and even Abyss left TNA. Sting was made man when WCW folded. He could have retired for the rest of of his life and be fine. AJ was too young and TNA never paid wcw money.

My Hell Frozen Over moment is very of its time and of me at the age I was. I was 11 in 1985 and went to my first ever WWF match, a house show in Denver, Colorado. This was during the heyday of Hulkamania and Hulk Hogan was seen as unbeatable. At this show he wrestled Terry Funk in the main event. Through heel shenanigans by Funk, Hulk ended up outside of the ring and was unable to get back in before the 10 count, meaning he lost by DQ. Eleven year old me seeing the immortal Hulk Hogan lose, even if it wasn't by pinfall and no title changed hands, was shocking and mind blowing! I remember it clearly to this day. It was also the first time I really noticed Funk and started appreciating how great he was.

I know people have been ragging on Punk & Bret for being "hypocrites" by working with WWE (especially lately), but honestly, knowing when to put aside an old grudge & make peace instead of continuing to dig in your heels is a sign of genuine maturity. It shows someone willing to reflect on themselves and realize that, at minimum, they don't want that weight on themselves anymore & have some sense of accountability. As a world-class grudge holder, I kinda envy their ability to at least let some of their grudges go & move on (of course Bret still has hating on Goldberg, but I think he's allowed to still have one).

The new generation era crossover with ECW was extremely surreal to me. Maybe if you were a fan of both at the time and knew they were recording down the hall from each other it would have made more sense, but it just seems like something that shouldn't have happened given the huge gulf in match types.

If I was Sting I woulda been super cautious about joining WWE cause theres some wrestlers that came from WCW that Vince made Superstars like Steve Austin and Mick Foley Undertaker etc.. there's also wrestlers that were "stars" in WCW and Vince turned them to garbage when they joined WWF/WWE so yeah I don't blame Sting one bit for being Extra Cautious with Vince

If I am being honest, the only time I can recall feeling Undertaker's WM Streak was in real jeopardy was the year he fought Punk. NOT because I am a huge CM Punk fan, but because he was coming off two straight PPV losses to Rock. I am one of those fans that stand by The Streak should've never ended. But if it was destined to be, Brock was not the guy. Undertaker said so himself.
