The tenor was the great Brian Free, in my opinion the greatest SG tenor that has stood the test of time, singing a demanding high tenor part for over 40 years without major vocal problems. In fact his voice quality has actually improved over the years. I love Jay as well. His style allowed GC to explore a slightly different style of music, a bit more brassy that Brian’s voice wouldn’t have pulled off as well. It was this lineup that was in place at the time I became interested in southern gospel, and it was the 2000 NQC recording of “Get up, Get Ready” that hooked me on these guys. I didn’t discover the Brian, Ivan, Mike combo until later. Love them all.
God's building a church. It's going to be sanctified, glorified, filled with the holy ghost power and might. Yes God's building a church. Praise Jesus.
Pull up the video of GC singing “In Time, On Time, Every Time” off this same recording session. Jay sings lead on that song and goes into the stratosphere with authority. He also gets an “I’m not worthy” bow of praise from Sandi Patty at the end
Larry Gatlin's reaction at 2:57 perfectly exemplifies what it was like hearing Tim Riley during the years I was lucky enough to tour with him. All you can do is shake your head. The absolute best ever.
Interesting, at the very end, the second tenor sings a brief line which sounds like mid-range compared to the first tenor holding the note next to him. However, not so -- the second tenor is nailing an A. Wow. Amazing dynamics.
Dude I saw this on public access tv when I was like 7, that bass dude really stuck in my memory and this is my first time seeing it since then! Im 25 now, I never thought I'd find it.
This quartet is the best to ever do it. Parrack and Riley showcase on this song but Wilburn and Trammell are two of the best blend guys you'll hear. Wilburn could chase Parrack on the high notes and endings and Trammell's range and solo ability is unmatched.
I'm not religious but I still can't get over how good this song is. Mostly due to the boss voices at either end of the tonal spectrum but it's catchy as well
It's all about the range, you are hearing the entire spectrum and any group that can cover the whole spectrum sounds amazing. Pentatinix are an amazing group and for all their success are still quite humble. Well worth hitting the search bar for this group!
Jesus loves you! If you just call upon him, and ask him into your heart. Believe he died for your sins and resurrected from the dead, and ask him for forgiveness of your sins, and turn from bad habits of sin, you will be guaranteed enteral life in a beautiful heaven with Jesus Christ!
People are giving so much credit to Tim and yes he is a literal god but the tenor was insane in this song. Singing all the way up to a C#5 and the end for a good few seconds. The whole group has insane talent.
I saw em several times back around this time. I have a friend who's Tim's great neice. I've been to a concert with every genre. There's nothing as vocally impressive as a 1st rate southern gospel quartet.
When I was little, my parents and my late grandpa would watch the whole DVD on Sunday afternoons. I would sit with them and watch while the other kids played outside😂❤️
I believe this was the first full day of taping. Seeing.Larry Gatlin there, we taped the Gatlin's video on Sunday night. I was sitting off to Tim's left during this and it was just great. Ah the memories.
Itsnorlyn..I believe it was Sweet,Sweet Spirit that this was on. Time wise I'm guessing. I sang with the Weatherfords from 90-97 so in that time frame somewhere.
Bass line at 1:17 is bad-ass... Gold City, regardless of the line-up, puts out some amazing, uplifting songs... I am SO ready for we, the saints, to run rampant with the Power of God the Holy Spirit..
Watching Calvin Newton enjoying himself with a smile on his face while Jay Parrack was singing made my day. Don't worry, Calvin, he will never be as good a tenor singer as you are. You're the best, in my book.
I dip blessing from this one, quite often. When the veteran quartets, react this way...it says more about your music, than any words can! Praise God, this is some of the very best.
April 2nd, 2021 We may not be watching this much longer friends, because.... the signs are all around us that "God's Church" is getting ready to go HOME!!!!! Hallelujah!
I'm glad God already built His church...and all those saved will be in His church. Be not confused, He only built one church according to the Scriptures. Eph. 4:4, 5:23
1peter 2:5 we are being built up as a spiritual house.this is God church all believers from the four corners of the earth,we must remember God does not dwell in buildings made of human hands.
It requires some serious talent to hit those bass notes IN TUNE, while actually singing the words and not just making sounds at that pitch. And I don't have a clue how Jay does what he does, the closest word I have is Falsetto, but maybe it's just God Given. I do not know!
I thank God He gave me the ability to sing bass because I can use it for His Glory and thank you Tim Riley you have inspired me to follow God and sing for Him
This is my favorite gold city group jay parrack is super freakin high hes awesome and Tim Riley super low notes this is the strongest they ever were in my opinion as a group great song to Jay was the best tenor they ever had great group loved them awesome
Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this 🪨rock I will build my church✝️; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 🛡
i lovvvve this,i love the bit at the end where they go ooh OO ooh OOO lol if you get what im talking about! I love Jays Anointed Voice! I listen to all the videos i see him over an over!!!
Praise Jesus Christ hallelujah! What a blessed and anointed song🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌. This will get you happy 😃😃😃To God be the glory!!!! God bless these men and their families and all our families!!!!
I wrote God's Buildin A Church on Labor Day of 1996. I had been in intercession for 5 young people in my church. As some of them began to repent and follow God in earnest I was full of praise to God.
Its not religion thats going to get you to heaven. It's Jesus he laid the price for us when he died and rose again the 3rd day. Only Jesus can save your soul.
love me some gold city... was blessed enough to see them live at the Grand old Opry. Around about 1996 in Nashville.. . It was cool when Porter Wagner introduced them...
They were performing at Silver Dollar City the weekend I married my wife in 2013. Was so tired we had to return to our hotel and miss out on what I was told was a stellar performance!
Absolutely the best line-up of Gold City ever to make music. It has never been the same since they broke up. Used to go see them at the convention in Louisville. There is a message in every song they sang, Their music saw me thru some real hard times in my life.
One of the best quartets to ever grace the stage ,strongest 4 part vocal in quartet history
I always remember Gold City when they had Ivan Parker and I can't remember the Tenor's name. They were a hoot.
The tenor was the great Brian Free, in my opinion the greatest SG tenor that has stood the test of time, singing a demanding high tenor part for over 40 years without major vocal problems. In fact his voice quality has actually improved over the years.

@@Mark-sj3xb I dunno. Young Danny Funderburk was SICK!
That bass dude just shredded everything around him....mercy.
Neattylu Lu: “that bass due” is Tim Riley
Tim can do it! JD Sumner would be proud!
MERCY YES!!!
Everythaaaaaaaaang!!!
@@gregorylucas7837 JD Sumner wishes he was as good as Tim.
God's building a church. It's going to be sanctified, glorified, filled with the holy ghost power and might. Yes God's building a church. Praise Jesus.
This groups has one of the HIGHEST and LOWEST male voices I've ever heard. What a blessed combination!!! Praise the Lord...
Ain't?
Yes I Love Bass Singer's
🙏
Even Phelps is looking on in amazement!
Agree
I absolutely love the surprise on everyone's face when Tim hits that first "basement" note. Love. It!
Still the G.O.A.T version of gold city, 2024 and it still slaps!!!!
Yep. Prime Gold City
Tim Riley is a monster bass for sure. But honestly I listen to this song mostly for Jay Parrack. Few tenors have this goosebump potential.
Pull up the video of GC singing “In Time, On Time, Every Time” off this same recording session. Jay sings lead on that song and goes into the stratosphere with authority. He also gets an “I’m not worthy” bow of praise from Sandi Patty at the end
I love Jay but......Brian Free was my "goosebump" creator! :) Talk about a clear tenor voice!!!
Jay, along with his Daddy, both!!!! 🤍
WORD!!!! EVERYTHING YOU'VE SAID IS TRUE!!!! TIM IS MY ROLE MODEL N JAY IS MY FAVOURITE TENOR
@ladycharswyes all are living they are amazing
Love how the "legends" react when Tim turns it loose. LOVE IT!
Yeah right ? 🤩🤩 they be like 😱
Glen Payne is loving that bass note everytime!
Heard a latest version of this song and... this version is incomparable,Jay,Tim,Jonathan and Marc are blessed
3:28 That guy said “Mercy!” He was so flabbergasted by that performance. Possibly the best live quartet performance I’ve ever seen!
Larry Gatlin's reaction at 2:57 perfectly exemplifies what it was like hearing Tim Riley during the years I was lucky enough to tour with him. All you can do is shake your head. The absolute best ever.
Still watching this in 2020, SANG IT TIM!!!
Saw this in 2016.
Glenn Payne’s finger at 2:54, priceless 👍
I thought that was Glen Payne. He went to be with the Lord in 1999. Mark Lowry looks really young, too.
😊 You know i've watched this so many times and never noticed that finger, yes, it's really priceless.😂
I don’t see the finger
@@Jounrananirojget a bigger screen
Love the look on Marks face watching Tim.
I always love Mr Lowry's reaction to basses when they let loose and get down in the basement as it were.
I love Gold City. The dude singing the high part is good. He can hit this high notes
Interesting, at the very end, the second tenor sings a brief line which sounds like mid-range compared to the first tenor holding the note next to him. However, not so -- the second tenor is nailing an A. Wow. Amazing dynamics.

I love watching Glenn Payne and Larry Gatlin's reaction to this song.
Mark's reaction at 1:56 on Tim's G1 is amazing...
It's impressive listening to Jay in this song, this combination of voices is unique and the best
People are giving so much credit to Tim and yes he is a literal god but the tenor was insane in this song. Singing all the way up to a C#5 and the end for a good few seconds. The whole group has insane talent.
Not to mention he makes it look absolutely effortless!
Gold City has been the gold standard for years (decades, really). Although the members have changed, this iteration is the best one - at least to me.
Hes a Parrack!
He competes, in my opinion, on an equal footing with David Phelps.
He is NOT a god!
I saw em several times back around this time. I have a friend who's Tim's great neice. I've been to a concert with every genre. There's nothing as vocally impressive as a 1st rate southern gospel quartet.
