What did you think of today’s list? I recently designed my daughters’ shared bedroom in red earth tones so I’m biased ❤ I shared a glimpse of it in this video and can’t wait to show you the rest!
Which trend is your favorite from this list?
Hi Julie, I think you’re doing a great job 😃
I love mixing antique and modern, and also dark wood!
Yes, yes, and yes! I never got rid of my dark wood pieces in the midst of the white oak movement, they still feel rich and elegant 🤎
Feel that none of these trends will go mainstream. With the exception of small shroom lamps and a bit of Hellenistic. Not for me for sure, but thanks for an interesting review!
Thank you for watching! 🙏☺️
No inspiration in these for me! These styles reminded me of a circus, kindergarten classroom and grandmas house, especially the dusty catcher tapestry!😂
Haha, I live for granny chic moments! Bring on the chintz!! 😍
Your first trend "Red Earth Tones" was KILLER, Julie!! I started my new home out in neutrals and everything fell flat. EVERYTHING! The light in here is SO different from my last home and I was "awash" in "What to do???". I turned to what was intended to be "browns" and they didn't make the cut, either. Once I stumbled on to Red Earth Tones, the place BLOSSOMED!! I then carried that up the walls and across the ceilings for even more drama. It got all "cozy" and stuff and I went wild with it, but in slightly varying tones and the more I did, the better it became.
I love it SO much that I recently toured a neighboring home with the identical floor plan THAT HAD RECENTLY HAD A COMPLETE OVERHAUL AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY stunning! I immediately FELL IN LOVE with the home and ran it through my mind a thousand times, thinking "should I move again???" Everything had been redone, kitchen, baths, courtyard, landscaping... even added the coveted third car garage I've always wanted and the price was very much in my range I was willing (and able) to spend!
I came home, kicked it around for a day, called several friends and raved about what I had found but in the end, I looked at what I'd done here and said "NOPE! I love this house and the look I've created with my red earth tones SOOOOO much that nothing will tear me away from what I've created here. Although I'm not completely finished "creating", my base for the look and feel I'm after is strongly implemented and I'm SO "at home". Thanks for reinforcing this trend!! Not many people say much but I know it creates strong vibes, either one way or another and it's something I can be proud of tackling and doing so fearlessly!! TY!!
I saved those red earth tone inspo pics for years knowing exactly what I wanted to do. It’s the one room in my home that wows guests the most! Even though it may not be their style, people really appreciate a bold statement 🙌❤️
To answer your question at the end of the video..I think these trends are very short lived. I personally think they will be out almost as quickly as they came in. Best to decorate and design in more classic ways, that speak to you, so you aren’t always chasing the latest trends 😊
“Trend” is a misnomer, but easily searchable ☺️
Nije sve što je trend lijepo... Meni se u ovom video baš ništa ne sviđa.
Very bold of you to make a trend video for 2024 in the beginning of 2023
Lol this video is for 2023-2024. Design industry isn’t like fashion, it’s slooooow 😅
I'm SO GLAD Hellinistic Design is back in style again! 👍👍
I don’t think busts ever really go out of style, Neoclassic/ Hellenistic can be timeless when done right!
I love the dark wood and tapestries! But with the tapestries, I worry about dust. But they are so beautiful.
Vacuum the tapestry as you would drapery panels 👍
Sorry, most of it left me cold. I would definitely have to pick and choose out of that lot!
Yes, but if you HAD to Sharon… 😉
Not for me either. I know it’s all on trend, but it reminds me of watching a fashion show where the models glide up and down in weird clothes and you wonder, ‘who wears that?’ (Not being critical of Julie K, just the current styles!) bleck.
Can’t wait to make next year’s follow up video- What was I thinking in 2023?!! 🤣
I love the dark wood and the Terra Cotta color!
Feel rich and luxurious ♥️
Tapestry.. Dark wood... Lamps..
My favourite
Me too 🙌😍
Dark wood, large mural/tapestry, textured rug... you literally are reassuring me in all my recent choices. ❤
White oak is still a fav, but something about dark walnut that feels rich and luxurious 🤎
I like to see the trends for inspiration for something that I believe I will love for life.
That’s the beauty of trends, take what you want and open your eyes to what’s new ☺️
Terracota colour,Stained glass, dark wood colour, mushroom, tiny table lamps, tapestry
The combination to a well-curated, eclectic space! 😍
Very good advices. That's very generous of you. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for watching 🙏😊
Well, I’m surprised I had to pass on these, accept the dark wood 🤗
Woohoo! I got one 🙌😂
Trends on my birthday! ❤
Happy birthday Brandon!
Happy birthday Brandon!! Wishing you a fab one!! 🎊🥳💖
@@JulieKhuu, turning 27… and in a country that I haven’t been to in 9 years on a family vacation. It’s been fun. But, I’m ready go home. Homesickness has hit me… HARD!
Awesome video, as always. It's crazy how much I learn from you every week. :) IMO, dark wood is never gonna die out. I love the idea of using a plinth to hold a beautiful plant. Tapestry is something I never thought of either. Now, statement rugs? That was my least favorite of the trends and don't think will stick. Thanks again for the video, Julie. xo
It always depends on what statement one is making Jackie 😂 I’m a huge fan of color, but in more abstract/ distressed/ faded out type of patterns. To me, that has more longevity than something graphic
I love the tapestry wall art
Me too! Now it’s just finding one that’s proven to be difficult
As usual great ideas! Ther dark furniture/ floors with black matte accents is timeless! I love the tiny lamps idea too.
Never thought I would like dark wood with dark walls, but the inspo pics are so luxurious looking! 😍
Love this video ❤🙏🌹
Thank you for watching Suha 🙏☺️💖
When you got to the Hipstoric chroma home, It reminded me of everything my mom loved about the 70s! Childhood friends still talk about my mom’s kitchen and her deep flamingo pink walls, and her eclectic mix of art (including her own) everywhere. She loved mixing the old with the new.
I love that! Great design should be memorable 😍
I love your videos Julie!!!
Thank you for watching Miguel 🙏😊
Loved this! I am not keen on Hellenistic revival or the mushrooms, but the rest is great. I would add murals (with wallpaper). Thank you, Julie!
Wallpaper murals yes!! I want it for my bedroom! Teetering between a mural, tapestry or simple F&B paint. Wah decisions decisions! 😅
I like the mushroom trend hahaha sound a little bazaar yet I love mushrooms!!!
The more bizarre the better! Just not the entire room lol 🤪
I love the warm tones you used in the bedroom. I also used a terra cotta bm paint color in my den. It was bf the earth tones were becoming popular. I just wanted a very warm color for a northern exposure room so at least we can think warm even if we are not. 🥰❤️
Even though this bedroom gets a ton of light, I always keep the sheers drawn since we’re right next to the neighbor’s living room. Golden hour is spectacular 🌅😍
Although I appreciate trends I prefer a timeless look that doesn’t feel outdated in a few years. None of these trends are for me.
OMG. I’ve had so many of these elements in my home for the past twenty years. We recently refreshed the primary bedroom with russet brown walls and a bold statement rug. I always appreciate your tips and suggestions but the truth is to find what you love and just wait for the trend to come around to you.
Exactly! Good design never dies Sharon! 👍
Thank you for the tips Julie.
Thank you for watching Charles 🙏☺️
To aspirational living❤❤. Thank you Julie.
Always 💖💫
Thanks Julie.
Thank you for watching Carol! 🙏☺️
Grey's are going away but I still love the light Greige wall colors
Greige benefits from the warm beige tones mixed in 😍
Cool thank you
Love it 😍
Hi Julie! The trends I liked were the red earth tones, textured rugs, dark wood and the tapestry wall hangings. Seems like "Maximalist" is making a huge comeback which I really don't care for. Fun video!
I don’t think maximalism or minimalism ever dies, but I do enjoy uncovering the little details that make each style unique
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍
Thank you so much Niecee 🙏💖
love all the color in the rooms.
Huge fan of color over here 🙋🏻♀️ I love a neutral space too, but needs something bold to ground it
Good sharing is in line with today's ❤
Thank you for watching Nasir 🙏☺️💖
Teeny tiny table lamps are great for kitchens 💜
The perfect ambient night light 💡
Absolutely brilliant list!
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
The only one of these trends that works for me is dark woods. 😅 LOL I'm not straying far out of my comfort zone. I know what I love and I'm true to that. 😊
Haha at least one has staying power 🤎
Thanks 😊
Thank you for watching Crystal 😊🙏
Great video Julie!
Thank you for watching Chris! ☺️🙏
I love the tapestries. ❤
Me too! Currently hunting for the perfect backdrop for my bedroom 😍
💯💯💯💯 thanks much.
Thank you for watching 🙏💖
Love that fear of color and pattern is ebbing away.
I hope so! The more you see, the more confident you’ll be ❤️
Lovely video and I love that blouse too
Thank you for watching Alison! ☺️🙏
Interesting and I can see it as trends are dividing the Rich from the Poor 😮
Lol I don’t believe that, maybe it’s just the inspo pix
Very useful tip as always 👍👍
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
Going to be building our “forever home” here in a few months. Have culled so much, but kept all my copper pieces (love love love copper) and I can’t wait to have a home that is not full of boring neutrals for resale purposes. A bit of intense color and rugs and I don’t know what. I wish I could afford you Julie!! Your videos will have to get me through. Thank you for inspiration. EDIT: I have decided that I will no longer have white window frames - going black on these.
I always tell a friend ' stop thinking resale and style the way you want. Do it for you. If you sell leave it up to the real estate agent to neutralize it for you.'
Black is going to look so badass!! Perfect way to modernize the space 🖤
Red earth for the win
Living for this moment 🌅
Hellenistic has been very much my favorite style for as long as I can remember. Busts, big statement art pieces are all divine!! My least favorite and something I would never use, on the other hand, is tapestry in the walls. That is a hard NO from me. Thank you for your work. It is inspiring.
Haha I want it all!! Not just all in the same place at the same time 😅
Interesting thanks
Thank you for watching Lydia! 🙏☺️
I have dark wood floors, agreeable grey walls, antique, and modern decor.
That mix of modern + antique really elevates every space Iris! 😍
i loved so many of them. Hard to choose.
Which is why they all made my list! 😍
GREAT VIDEO!
Thank you for watching Jane! 🙏☺️
Love it 😍 ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for watching Addy ☺️🙏
@@JulieKhuu
You’re welcome Julie
😍
It’s so fun when things I love are back in style and I didn’t even know it! Now that we are passed kids and dogs, putting in a new, big cream color with beige Fleck nubbly Berber carpet Back in the great room isn’t just trendy, for me it’s nostalgic. The massively heavy “opium bed” style dark coffee table reigns supreme on it, with more sleek, contemporary leather pieces cozily gathered around it, in cream, cognac and espresso…Family antiques and and a propeller ceiling fan close to the cognac color, combined with a couple of other dark pieces, pull things together.
All tied together with a few dark brown walls with a coral undertone, that has all my friends asking me If my pumpkin spice Red birch kitchen cabinets from 2001 our new, 😂! I never knew they could look that good. Kinda glad now that the freeze caused a pipe to break in our ceiling, sending water through the ceiling in multiple places across the back of the house. Don’t think hubs would’ve been in the mood to repaint otherwise.
Sometimes all you need is new wall paint to make cabinets feel fresh again! Serendipitous 🙌😂
I need new throw pillows so I think I'll find some (not too) whimsical fabric and make some pillow covers inspired by the mushroom design trend. If I can't find the exact pattern then I can embroider hidden critters and shapes in them. Something subtle, but the grandkids can find them and be enchanted.
Word of the day: enchanted 💫 that’s exactly it Martha! That’s what I want for my girls when I design our home around this era for them 🥰
Very nice ❤
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
Great video and content as usual! I did not like any of the trends😢. I am thankful for your comment on how you do the opposite of trends. Keep up the excellent work!
I’m always surprised by what I end up liking Sonya! Thank you for watching 🙏😊
I love the Hipstoric Chroma design. But then I love color and character with loads of expression. 😊 I do not know if it has staying power like Academia... But it is interesting. I lean more towards an Academic design style. The dark rich woods fit with this as well as the cozy moody theme, libraries, fireplace, comfy leather couches, classic and colorful art, etc.... That is more my style. And yes I use tapestry wall hangings which fit well with my style. I don't do the entire room in dark colored walls though. I prefer warm whites and creams with maybe an accent wall or maybe some wallpaper. And I am not into the teeny tiny table lamps. Maybe for a child's night stand? Otherwise no. And a big no on the mushroom themes... But otherwise some interesting design trends. I always appreciate your openess to different styles and trends. I tend to avoid trends... Thanks for the information! 😊
When details you’ve been designing with for years all of a sudden become “trendy” it’s hard to ignore the fact. Too much of one thing tires the look unfortunately, so I always urge viewers to keep an open mind and do what you want. It’s your home, only YOU need to like it ☺️
@@JulieKhuu Indeed... 😊
beautiful ❤
#Shokinhouse
Thank you for watching 🙏😊
Enjoyed Julie’s story about the teeny tiny lamps she passed on at the flea market! I recently ordered several lamps from Amazon that I didn’t realize were teeny tiny and I returned them. Now I’m looking at them in a different “light”! Perhaps I’ll purchase again and try this design trend. Hmmm…
Haha 💡 hope they complete your perfect vignette!
Earth red tones.. great hue shift from grey shades
I love the palette of sunset hues, so cozy ❤️🧡🤎
As a person of Greek heritage I am thrilled with the Hellenistic revival! I have lived with this style all my life, but the less expensive version.
Thanks Julie this was an excellent video and I find they are getting more excellent. I too like the earthy red tone, but with more pink in it. Is there a color you recommend for an adult bedroom? I was looking at Ciao Bella by Benjamin Moore.
Ciao Bella is beautiful, but be careful if glazing/limewashing. It can sometimes read as “makeup foundation” - my walls are actually a brick red that we diluted to this terra cotta tone with glaze. Sample a few more darker shades to compare!
Great video, thanks Julie. Would you consider doing a video on black floors?
I would! You know how I’m a huge fan of modern black accents! Let me work on this one 🖤
My boat interior has a lot of dark wood, it is very comforting and gives a warm feeling to the space.
Like a big, warm hug I bet! 🤎
Dark wood furniture has some elements of the style I love, although it's not dark enough for my personal taste.
Trending interior styles include common practices from the industry, not personal taste. Personal taste includes something specific for the person, so it can have several trending styles in it mixed up together. For example, i mostly love (dark) gothic mixed up with Egyptian style and colors. I did interior design in goth-vampiric style 4 years ago for the client, it looked astonishing after finishing it.
I’m a huge fan of dark and moody so I’m with ya 🖤
I just installed some light french oak floors - they are gorgeous and make the house look so airy, but i want some dark wood tones too. I love walnut and wonder if some walnut furniture or cabinets or accessories can work with the natural french oak color.
Definitely! Even super dark espresso/ rich walnut finishing can look dynamic against light tones
I have never ever tried these styles and it seems so far out from what I’ve even thought I’d do. But I’m starting a new life in a new country and that means, an opportunity to design my interior from scratch. I think I love the Tapestry and dark wood trend.
Dark wood is so timeless! I never thought I would like dark wood against dark paint, but that academia vibe is growing on me 🖤
i love the statement rugs but other than that not to crazy about the rest.
I can find beauty in the most bizarre details Carol! Just when I think I don’t like something, I see it beautifully done in an elevated way 😍
I find that too Julie. Sometimes you have to sit with it awhile to appreciate it more later, and there's lots to choose from Iin these styles . Exceptions, I never got into the gray and I totally skipped it, but was all for pinks and greens!
Been waiting for this video - thanks Julie! It seems like lately, sofa colors like blue are more trendy. Do you think it is better to consider having a colored sofa if it fits the living room space, or is it always better to stick with something more neutral colored?
I would go bold on the accent chair since it’s less expensive to reupholster in case I tire of the hue.
@@JulieKhuu Thanks! I now remember you saying that before in an old video. Makes the most sense.
I love the soft pink paired with the soft blue in the photo at 5:30 min - I haven’t seen that before - it would work for a bedroom too - I love dark wood too and I confess I haven’t managed to dark stain my bannister or window frames but I have been hijacked the last two years looking after my two granddaughters 5 days a week while their mummy works - I have a chair similar to the number 4 at 9:10 min I want to make dark - I’m hopeful - some of those teeny lamps weren’t that tiny to me but then the scale in my home is quite different 🙄- I loved this video Julie - lots of beautiful eye candy which I love your videos for - thank so much 😊🏯⛲️
I hope that my channel reads like a well-curated design magazine. Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
@@JulieKhuu yes it does - so informative and engaging 😊👍
I think we'll be cringing at the helenistic sculptures and columns in a few, as this décor kind of doesn't vibe with the world's development (?) so as at mushrooms but for different reasons. They will feel as random as gilded pineapples soon I bet! But trends are so fun, I love these videos 🙃
Word to the wise- don’t do it all at once! 😆
I love the dark wood and the tapestry.
I am not a huge fan of mushroom things 😂😂😂😂.
When I move in to my house the entryway was terracotta wasn’t for me I just painted 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for your videos 😘😘😘
I stayed in a vacation rental where every wall was plastered in a different color. Terra cotta was one of them. When I see something done wrong, I just want to make it right! 😂
@@JulieKhuu the same here, when I moved to my house every single room was painted with a different colour (blue, dark gray, terracotta, yellow, cream) 😂😂😂
I couldn’t wait to freshen up the entire house
....Lovely video, Miss Julie! I adore Tapestry, and it's such a beautiful statement piece. I don't have one but would love to find one that works with my Style...:).
About those "tiny lamps"....I have been using those since around 2010..lol.They
offer a little bit of light ,just the right amount, depending on the Bulb used;
most of them specify and it's usually no more than 25 to 40 Watts. I have one in my bathroom , it has a 4 watt candelabra type bulb,it's the"Night light " in there, but itsonall the time ....Same with the kitchen, the dark hallway , and the area where I have my Furrbabys'" bathroom area ",lol. (In a large closet ,took the door off, works out great, and it's not seen"out in an. OpenArea") Ahhh..the Long Beach area Flea Market... I miss that, lol.(having lived in Long Beach ,some years ago.) ....I think I would not have been too pleased paying. 80$ for two lamps that STILL had a price sticker on them...lol.But that's me.... And I'm so outspoken some things ,...not rudely .. But I probably would've let them know. I didn't think that that was a very fair price considering that there was still the price on it from where THEY purchased it to " Re-sell "....I find it disingenuous and dishonest of others who attempt to overcharge people. :)
Wishing you a wonderful remainder of the Week ! Blessings ~ 🙏🏻✨️🌼🌻🪻🩷
My motto is- I let people make money. But not by ripping me off! haha 🤣 Yeah, that $3 price tag didn’t sit well.
@Julie Khuu ...oh, absolutely... ! I agree with people having the opportunity to make extra cash. Etc ... but as you stated, not at ones expense of ripping them off or cheating them. 😊🙂 thank you for your kind reply!
Julie love your talent. Have you ever delved into Afro-modern :eclectic or Asian contemporary ? It’s fun and evolving. It’s definitely for someone with a distinctive aesthetic. ❤
Not exclusively, but I have used both Afro and Asian antique decor in client interiors. Love how simple pieces can produce such visual impact 😍
Intentional works...❤
Maybe, accent lighting here and there in dark areas or ambiance.
Otherwise, I am not crazy about the other trends.
Plug ins are just more economical than hard-wired so I love those little lamps 💡
Still on trend without trying to be 😊
Trends follow me! 🤣
@@JulieKhuu oh I was speaking of myself.😇
Ahh , I have just gone really large on a table lamp and have just today donated two teeny lamps... However I have a new'ish walnut unit, so thankfully on vogue but may need 'new side-table/s as have white topped and and light wood scandi ones.. but having some good framed prints inc B&W, and a favoured Hellenistic print, by way of a contemporary representation of the landscape of Tinos.
My housing association suggested to me a while back that they could rip out my 'sage /pistachio coloured kitchen tiles if I wanted but I love them as I feel that they give a jazzy relaxed feel and apparently they have just got trendy again. I scoured the net yesterday for a 'terracotta/earth utensil holder after removing the blue one (teal cabinets) in the North facing kitchen area.
It's all going to take time as I have my first unfurnished space, am on a shoestring but am going to 'curate rather than live in a old curiosity shop like the previous forty years. Thank you again ! :)
Wow, you’ve hit the entire list Nick!! 🙌 That’s a feat! I find that a similar color palette can tie together a variety of different styles
I was going to paint at least one part of the room terracotta, so I guess I am on trend!
Ooh can’t wait to hear all about it Nelson!
Hipstoric Chroma Home is here to stay 🎉
Yup 🥳
I paid extra for real wood trim stained dark. Very rich feeling.
Lovely! 😍
Love the Greek Asthetic, 'Shrooms & Tapestry trends! Thank you, Julie!
Even if I don’t like shroom shapes, I find myself gravitating towards flora and fauna fantasy wallpaper 😍
Hi, May i put my pull bar in my bedroom?
Hi Julie I love your each and every videos I bought my house year ago want to make my house like I see in your videos but I have no confidence to do anything try to hire a designer but so expensive .
Start with the Dream Space series! 10 episodes to help you out when starting with a blank slate 💖
@@JulieKhuu Just finish watching those videos they are so helpful thank you so much.🙏
you look great in that color, jk! hey who is the artist who created that painting at 10:43? i love that whole room but the painting is superb! love the video and all the scrumptious examples.
Thank you for watching! I’m not sure- if you take a screenshot of the painting, upload it onto Pinterest/ Google for the answer 😊
Hi Julie!! Not relevant to the video but I was wondering how your diy guest bathroom floor is holding up?😮
Awesome! I’m going to do a follow-up video soon Grace! 👍☺️
Maybe curtains could once again have some patterns. They seem easier to deal with than tapestries!
But you still have that blank wall to address Emilie 😉
Lovely video as always but I'm afraid none of these trends will stand the test of time (with the exception of dark wood; I mean it WILL go out of style eventually as every single wood tone does, but will come back).
The Hellenistic style is particularly cringy to me, being Greek; Statues and busts is something you'll find in a museum or an art collector's gallery. And you should visit an temple or a historic building if you like Ionian columns. But in a home? It's a big no. Designers always try to prevent people from displaying mass produced art; you'd never see Van Gough's Starry Night in a living room and call it tasteful and that's exactly how I feel about ancient Greek and Roman knock-offs.
It reminds me of the Portokalos house from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
The biggest tell tell sign? You'll never see a home decorated this way in Greece.
Those tapestries😂😂😂
My fave 😍
Thank you for the education! Boy oh boy, none of this is for me at all. This all looks like it will be dated in a couple of years. No, thank you!
So many ways to reinterpret these trends in bits and pieces that will work for decades to come ☺️
Can you help me come up with a color scheme for my livingroom. I want an oriental theme to go with my religion. There's an altar, similar to a buddhist altar, and the colors of it has white, red, gold, and silver. I'm having a difficult time trying to find a color scheme to incorporate with my religion and to add a peaceful feeling. I also love bamboos and I have some.
I never prefer brown, red, earthy look, since it dates very fast, extremely difficult to make it look like new
Paint is so easy and inexpensive to change in case you tire of the look
I had a vintage, large, white glass, Murano mushroom lamp which I lost during a move into my mid century modern house. It was accidentally donated to goodwill 😢
Omg you had me at Murano 😭
@@JulieKhuu I know! It's been years, but I still feel gutted.
I just can’t bring myself to like these trends
Ciao, i like dark wood but i'm getting tired of it have all the same dark wood furniture anywhere,😂
Yes, mixing and matching is the way to go!
Lovely designs and direction, but all these trends feel short-lived, especially the Hellenistic Revival. Interior design and designing your dream home should feel more like an outward expression of ourselves, and less about trying to fit into a trend or a certain design classification.
Hellenistic has been around for ages and we see them coming back in some form every 10yrs or so. They’re having a moment rn, but I don’t think busts are going anywhere
