Hi Maggie with little funds for freshing your home a big bottlle of fabreeze extra strength, and dryer sheets. Open your windows give your place a good airing out vacuum your furniture and rugs and spray everything with the fabreeze. Then place the fabric softener sheets under the cushions. Let in light, add flowers. Then love your daughter. She's not coming to see your home, she's coming to see you.
Some of us are chemically sensitive and that would put me in the ER. Cleanliness does not have to include toxic chemicals. Have you ever looked at the ingredients of fabreeze? Toxic.
The most important thing is that you are there. She is coming to see YOU. She doesn’t care about the house. A clean house, without dust, and clean floors always makes everyone feel welcome. And flowers, even in a drinking glass if you don’t have a vase.
Seeing you living in an cute, clean , comfortable space your family members leaves the visit with such joy and peace of mind, warms their hearts❤ hearts..... Focus on enjoying the Family, life is so precious, but short . Happy times Maggie😊😊
Maggy, light a candle, small mason jar with the smallest bouquet and bake your daughters favorite childhood treat. Remember, she's coming to be with her momma. Your love is the most beautiful thing to give.
This is the BEST idea! Oh how I would love to visit my momma with my favorite childhood treat waiting for me 🥰 Maggie- bake just before she arrives- the smell of cookies is very welcoming! And coffee brewing, if she’s a coffee drinker:)
I would say declutter and make the house sparkle. And I would spend money on the room she’s staying in. New pretty bedding new lamps new pillows. Make it sweet and pretty. So happy for you ..eight years is a long time. A smiling face and kind hands are free. I’ll keep you in prayer for a blessed visit.
Putting fresh flowers in the room for her daughter and nice soap on a pretty soap dish. Fresh towels available in the room. Match the towels to bedroom.
I would add a couple of little touches that the high-end hotels do: a nice large bottle of water where she’ll be sleeping (preferably glass), an assortment of different flavored teas or cocoas in a tiny dish (or pretty teacup) on the nightstand, and placing several individually wrapped chocolates bedside.
And this is why this 70 yr old looks forward to Saturday evenings to see a dear friend. You are a jewel, Susan. And so are the dear ladies here. I’m honored to be a part of it. Love & blessings to you all.❤️❤️❤️
Marlene peters- i will be 82 next month and so very happy to see your wonderful videos. My daughters live in another state which is only about 2 hours for one and hour 1/2 for another. They want me to move up closer to them! Not living with them but they have ask me too! I need my own place! There is a 55+ houses in about. 23 minutes from one of them! Really nice! I am asking you and the wonderful ladies that watch you lend me some of your expertise and ideas! Thank you so very much!!
As a professional home stager for 18 years, I would say “setting the stage” for a warm “welcome home” experience definitely begins with decluttering and cleaning. Fresh flowers that compliment the room and a home baked something or other is always a good idea as well! Freshening up the bed with white/soft white linens gives a clean, crisp spa like feel to a bedroom. Creating a welcome basket for her room with bottled water and some of her favorites is another nice touch. A favorite quote comes to mind “a smile is a curve that can set a lot of things straight” ~ so whatever you do, do it with a smile and simply ENJOY being in one another’s presence. We’re all pulling for you Maggie… sending lots of love and heartfelt prayers your way for memories that will last a lifetime❣️🙏🏼😘
I agree! I do the welcome basket as well, including a magazine or book I know the recipient will like, even if it's a crossword puzzle book and a special pen. I include their favourite treats and something cozy, like sleep socks.
I agree with the welcome basket idea. My daughter creates a small coffee/tea table in the bedroom in the wintertime, but I feel for the summertime it would be nice to have a pitcher (which you can pick up so many places inexpensively) with water and ice and some lemon or lime slices thrown in. You can place this on a nightstand with glasses, and it will make the bedroom special, like someone really took the time to do something extra to make it comfortable. Good luck, Maggie. I'm sure it will be beautiful.
Maggie wish I had a picture so I could help you. I am a retired designer. First and most important is getting rid of clutter. The first impression starts before you walk in the house. A wreath on the door and a nice welcome mat. One of the first things is maybe rearrange your furniture by even shopping your on home. Moving things from different rooms makes it feel different and new to you. Make sure everything looks clean and smells great. Wax Warmers are nice and gives your home a wonderful smell. Also fresher baked items give the inviting welcome. Fresh white bedding and white towels and washcloths looks wonderful. If you store things on top of your refrigerator clean it off. Make sure your counter tops are clean and clear. A small lamp on the kitchen counter looks great and brings warmth to the kitchen. Lighting is very important use lamps instead of over head lighting. A welcome basket with a book or magazine’s a beautiful bar of good smelling soap a couple of goodies in it in case she would like a snack and a drink. A small night light is very welcomed. Fresh flowers are very important. One of the nice things is to have a extra toothbrush and toilet items in the welcome basket incase she forgot something. Thrift stores are amazing place if you need even lamps. A beautiful bowl of fresh fruit . The things I have mentioned doesn’t cost much but makes a big difference. I am sure if you shop your home you probably have a lot of what you need. Remember she is coming to see her mother so the other things are just a special touch. I sure the hug and love you give will make her feel so welcomed and loved. If I lived close I would loved to do this for you. Now relax and enjoy the special time together.. I am 76 and I just love to make a home look inviting and cozy. God bless. Have an amazing time. Let us know how everything goes.
Hello Maggie . Im 87 years old and fully understand where you are in terms of time, energy, and wanting to have everything "just right" for your daughter's visit. It just occured to me that you dont really have to spend money on new things. What seems old, and maybe boring to you, bit it is still brand new to your daughter if its been 8 years! Its been said so many times in these comments...clean! But dont kill yourself doing it. Pace yourself. Choose one or two special things to do each day above and beyond your normal routine. Use your money for good food, a couple of special treats for her. And keep smiling. That is what she will notice and remember the most. Breathe. Love who you are and let it show.
Dear Susan, Beauty seems to surround you everywhere, but it's your inner beauty we all love so much. Thank you for what you bring to our lives every week. You are amazing.
Susan is a very special lady..Inside and out...I'm so happy I found her page...Makes me smile every time.. And who wouldn't love Desi...He is pretty special too.
I retired after 37 years in banking. I’ve been divorced for 21 yrs and will be 66 in August. Retirement has been hard for me, I feel lost. I ran onto your videos a few months ago and they have literally saved me. Today I went back to some of your earlier videos and watched “The New Year Tag 2019” This really hit home with me, but most of all it was the first time I saw you a little sad and reflective. That let me know I’m not the only one that gets down at times and it let me know I won’t always feel like this. Thank you for sharing and giving us all hope❤
Tammi, just wanted to comment and say what a beautiful lady you are from your picture. You are obviously very intelligent as well from your work history. I am retired as well, and you have to find some kind of new normal! I just wanted to lift your spirits a little bit if I could. Blessings to you.
One bouquet can be divided, putting smaller vases of flowers in a bedroom, a bathroom, a coffee table or a dining table. One bouquet can extend through the home.
hi maggie- i don't ever strive to make my home look luxurious or expensive...i always strive for it to be cozy and welcoming and warm, and i don't want the sorts of things everyone else has or is doing or using or installing. i want the sort of home people feel like they just got a big hug, and is just me...homebody, ocean lover, gardener, writer, lover of art and all things beautiful ...for starters. aside from all the other great suggestions, when i have a guest coming to stay, no matter who it is, i make sure there are nice, clean linens on the bed and that the room is sparkling clean., and i put a fresh laundered white towel on top with a new, great smelling soap (in case they want to take a quick shower after a long trip) then, i have a lovely rose ceramic platter that i put on the dresser by the lamp, and it always includes a pink glass water decanter with a glass on top (it is a set and is lovely), filled with water, of course, some home made cookies freshly made that made my house smell awesome, some chocolate and an apple with a very small bouquet of flowers from my garden. it tells your guest...you matter to me. 💕🥰 people won't remember how your house is decorated, but they will always remember how you made them feel, and the comfort and love of home...enjoy your daughter!!!!
Oh I cried 😢 how sweet and kind! I raised my Son alone and when he was old enough to have Friends over, I would thrift so he would be proud of where he lived ! The largest issue that you have touched on is cleanliness and to this day when I do a deep cleaning...I look and think wow... It's lovely here! MAGGIE YOU WILL BE IN MY PRAYERS, DEAR ONE!
I love to simmer a pot of water on my stove with some orange peel and cloves it makes my whole house smell wonderful. Sometimes I’ll put vanilla and cloves in a pot of simmering water…I love the smell it brings to every room. Maggie, enjoy you daughter’s visit it’s going to wonderful 🥰
@@karenrowe-sl8quI bake apple cinnamon or strawberry quick bread, a blueberry or peach cobbler, muffins, or chocolate chip cookies. Smells heavenly and we have treats to share over coffee or tea while we sit and catch up.
@@carolestone1079 I raised two boys as a single mom. I get not wanting them to ever feel embarrassed about their home. One of the highest compliments I received was from my niece who said she liked my house more than her parents because she liked my decor. Everything I had was thrift or hand me downs. Her parents home was at least a million dollar home. Maggie... if you are able, make your daughter's favorite meal as a kid. My mom made me beef stroganoff every year for me on my birthday.
I had no idea you gave up a child for adoption. My mother was also 14 and gave me up for adoption. After my adoptive parents passed away I gave myself permission to find her. I finally did, and was heartbroken to learn that she wants nothing to do with me. I would have flown 2,000 miles for a secret one hour lunch just to look into her eyes one time. She never told her husband or son about me and wants to keep me a secret. I’m so glad your meet up went well 💗
To Maggie, hi im Jane Irish, live in Ireland, Irsh to the core.We love pur comfort but as Susan says it doesn't need to cost much. I just had a suprise visit from my brother from Scandinavia.Possibly the last time we shall be together in person. His daughter and son come bvb to me every year. All they want to do is sit around the kitchen table, drink tea and chat. Your company is all your daughter has in mind. She may not even notice a new lamp. Your daughter wants to be with her mother.I hope you both chat, laugh and remember all your good times. Be in the moment. Thats all that matters. I wish you both the very best. From an Ireland who doesn't know its Summer.🇨🇮🇺🇸
I might suggest to shop your home. Sometimes you have things stashed away that you can repurpose into something else or use as “new” decor. Susan , you are such an angel sending Maggie such a wonderful gift-bless you! 😊❤️🙏🏻
Hi Susan I agree with you on everything. My mom died at forty nine but I remember her and my husband's grandmother always said to make the porch the first welcoming point. I just cleaned and painted our French Doors that go out to the back porch. I scrubbed the porches , put new material on the cushions..not a lot of money but so refreshed and clean. I woukd tell Maggie if she can not decanter the room her daughter is in, sweep, mop ..use something like Gain detergent...it will make your house smell so good. Check the light bulb in the lamp on the night stand. Even if you have to put stuff in your trunk of your car...don't have extra stuff in the bedroom she us in. Remenber her favorite dessert. If you don't feel like cooking take her out to a diner that is not too expensive. I too, like fresh flowers. Pretty soon I can cut my own zinnias. Susan , when Melissa 55 sent her subscribers to us I felt like I had " met" a very special new friend. God will bless you ten times over for your generosity. And ypur house looks so beautiful. I thrift too amd have beautiful things for a fraction of the cost. ❤❤❤❤❤
I remember some of my visits with my Mom as she was becoming older but could still cook etc. What was important to me about our visits was that she liked her home to be clean, she would have coffee and some pastries for us to share while talking and catching up, simple favorite meals she always made when I was a kid - great memories. Just the smell of her cooking was all I needed to feel like I was home again. I remember the lighting in the living room, the glow of the lamp at night as we sat talking. Just enjoying being together was so special. I understand you want your home to be pretty, many great suggestions have been made. I would concentrate on her bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and your own bedroom. I used to love sitting on my Mom’s bed while we laughed and talked. How I miss her. I miss her…her laugh, the twinkle in her eyes and her cooking. Wishing you a beautiful time with your daughter.
Hi susan....Ive learned easy tricks...ideas to get ready !.Recover throw pillows, fluff couch cushion , dust, wash windows, check light blubs, wash throw rugs , new dish towels, simple things...will make it all look fresh and clean yes a vase or two of flowers you'd be surprised..and a fresh pot of coffee will have a welcoming smell...probably still have some money left for nice dinner...best wishes enjoy her daughters visit...🎉
There are some fabulous ideas here from beautiful women. I must confess to watching this with tears in my eyes for all the outpouring of love. So I won't add anything practical other than to say I always stand at the door to welcome anyone who is visiting my house the moment I hear them arrive. No one is going to have to ring my doorbell when I'm expecting them. I want them to feel that I am excited by their visit and that they're so welcome. Same when people are leaving. Even if I'm having a party and someone is leaving I will see them to their car and wave till they're gone! No one is a 'See yourself out'. Maggie, just relax. Your daughter is the best guest ever. All you have to do is make her feel that x
Oh this one made me cry. It reminds me so of my mother-in-law, may she rest in peace. She was so easy to please and was most happy when surrounded by her children. Sadly, after she fell and could no longer live in her home, my husband (her youngest son) and I were her company although the other three sisters lived close by. So it always breaks my heart to hear stories of older parents not having visits from their adult children for months or years at a time. I hope Maggie reaches out to neighbors to help her if it will make her feel better to have her home special for her daughter. And so very kind of you, Susan, to send her such a generous gift. I always tell my friends that I come to see them, not their home, and I mean that. How they are is so important to me, not how beautiful or perfect their home is. I hope Maggie's daughter may take some time to also help her around the house during her visit. I do love shopping thrift stores to find antiques and unique pieces (and candles) for my home. I don't have the space for flower stands, but I do try to change things up and move pieces around the house for a fresh look, or create my own pieces. And I do love natural light coming in. I feel a source of natural light in the home is good for the soul.
Maggie, I think finding sweet photos of her and the family framed in the area she will sleep would be a nice touch. Bringing back great memories tugs at the heart and strikes conversation.
Susan, I was so touched by your generosity to Maggie that I had tears in my eyes. How very kind you are. Your garden looks so beautiful and inviting, as does your entire home. One thing I do is place battery operated candles around my combination library, meditation room. They flicker a soft yellowish glow and look both welcoming and comforting. I also place soft colored coordinated throws on my couches and lounge chairs. They are very soft to the touch and invite you to take a nap or just feel cozy reading a book. I shop online for home accessories at both Walmart and Amazon. They are always offering good deals. I'm on a restricted social security budget like Maggie and I know how limiting that can be. Maggie, I just know your home is going to look so warm and welcoming for both yourself and your precious daughter. Please savor your time together and make some new memories. Susan, God Bless your beautiful soul, we all love you and that adorable little Desi.
Maggie, the three most important things is 1. Deep clean everywhere. Make it sparkle. 2. Declutter, take everything that is not very beautiful off of your counters and mantle and furniture and store then away. 3. Clean your lower level and most seen windows inside and out. Then open every blind and drapery. These three are free except for sweet equity and will transform your home.
Susan how thoughtful of you to send Maggie that $$!! I suggest buring good smelling candles or buy a good tart burner and good tarts then you have a good smell abd a dim lighted area!!! And a comfy throw blanket freshly washed.
Susan and Desi! May your generosity and kind words to Maggie return to you ten fold. We all appreciate your kind words of encouragement!!!!!! Thank you for sharing your life over UA-cam! I pray Maggie’s visit with her daughter goes beautifully and happy memories are made!❤
I agree with Susan on lighting. I love, love, love strings lights all year long. They add an ambiance to every room for very little money. I have them in my foyer, dining room, tv room and kitchen. I usually stick to white lights, except for my foyer -- turquoise just because :). At Christmas we usually add additional lights throughout the house and some are multi-colors. Also, I love fresh bed linens and bath towels. Walmart has some very affordable Mainstays 10-piece towel sets for less than $14.00. Also, check out their 16" x 16" throw pillows in various colors/patterns for $5.00 each. Whenever we have relatives staying over, I prepare small baskets with toothpaste, new toothbrush, yummy smelling bar of soap, small tube/travel-size hand cream, disposable razor, travel-size shampoo and conditioner. I also like to place a few Andes Mint candies on their nightstand with a nice glass drinking glass and a small pitcher that they can fill with water. And tissue (kleenex). :) I hope you'll have fun throughout this process in preparation for your daughter's visit. Please don't fret, but lean into the joy that is bubbling up in your heart at the thought of your daughter. God bless you, Maggie. God bless you, Susan.
I spend most weekends at my boyfriend's home. Every weekend he will buy fresh flowers to match one of the 5 sets of satin sheets he puts on the bed. He keeps my favorite wine chilled. He has been doing this for over sixteen years. He is a keeper. 😁
I agree with all of what Susan said. Make your home very clean and decluttered, even if you have to pack away stuff in boxes and put in the attic or basement. Clean your chandeliers, lamps and mirrors so they sparkle. No piles of paper, magazines, books or mail around, get a storage bin for those things and put them out of site or under the bed or donate your books and things. Get rid of your winter coats/sweaters so your hall closet and your daughter's bedroom drawers have more room (put in a box with cedar balls). Organize and clean out your kitchen drawers. Throw out any chipped or cracked coffee cups or dishes. Make the furniture you do have shine with polish or some kind of cleaner and then either vacuum them or use a lint roller. Clear out your kitchen counter tops, store most of that stuff and use Bonami to make your sinks and tubs sparkle. I would remove old scatter rugs and replace with new ones or nothing at all. TJ Max is my go-to for cheap decor. New sheets, pillows and bed coverings from TJ Max. Put-up sheer curtains of white or ivory to replace old heavy drapery/valances. I also agree with Susan about potted plants and flowers. I like a bowl of fruit or a bowl of lemons or lemons and limes as decor. New bathroom towels and kitchen towels can be had at Targets and Kohl, cheaply. A few plants from Home Depot or Lowes can be affordable and even diffuser sticks in a nice smelling scent. Spray old furniture with Fabreeze and like Susan said get more lighting for your rooms. If you have money left over, you can cover your couch with a couch cover and some throw pillows. Can you rearrange your furniture in new ways or reuse your China in different ways? If you have China take it out and use it. Purchase two large planters of outdoor flowers to put on your front steps, I got mine at our local supermarket. It makes for good curb appeal. Enjoy your visit with your daughter and do not worry, she is coming to see you. And thank you Susan for adding to her savings.
Hey Sue’s and Desi! You have a heart of gold! That was so kind of you to gift Maggie $250…so wonderful! As I read the comments the advice given from these lovely ladies shows the wonderful community of viewers you have! The only tip I can add to these great comments is Amazon has throw pillow covers that may change things up….enjoy your special time with your daughter….be happy! ❤❤
Hi Susan..... The pink princess is really showing off she is so pretty and vibrant .Well done ! She must really love living where she is. Maggie I know your daughter will be so happy to see you she won't even notice if you don't have " luxury" However ,it's so important for you to feel confident and reassured that your space feels homely ... Try to find throws and cushions for your seating and then you can snuggle up together and reminisce. Get a couple of lovely cheap wooden bowls and fill with pot pourri and some bunches of fresh lavender which is just ready at the moment. Buy her some lovely linens for her bed and as Susan said fresh flowers in her room. Oh and when she arrives have fresh bread warming on the stove with a pot of coffee so the home smells good and welcoming. Try to find some photos of your family to leave around the place - the frames needn't be expensive. But above all, make sure she sees the radiant smiling Mom she is coming to visit. Don't let your anxiety overtake you. She will be so thrilled to be with you that she will only be concerned that YOU are her luxury ! Enjoy and please tell us all how it goes. With love Janice 🇬🇧 xxx
I loved this video. Maggie, your daughter will love your house just as it is. My mom never had much money and lived in an apartment in the city. Most of her decor was still there from our childhood. I visited every Saturday and it was like going home for a little while. When mom passed I got to keep a table that has been part of my whole life. I cherish it. Don’t worry and just make sure the coffee is on. Enjoy your week.
Hi Maggie, You touched my heart in a special way. The fact that your daughter is coming to visit you is such a gift! Enjoy it🎉and celebrate life. Declutter what you can, clean everything and then once you clean your floors throw some lavender or a mix with eucalyptus essential oil in the rinse water the day before. Fresh flowers in a clear base ( maybe A framed picture of your daughter) in the room she will be staying in with nice clean sheets that smell lovely and a couple of pretty pillows propped up can be very inviting. Maggie cook and /or bake her favorite foods and all that Love will translate into building special moments and memories. You can also make a card to welcome her to your home and place it by the flowers or tucked in a mirror in her room where she can see it! ♥️♥️♥️ Greetings and Praying for you / your daughter from NYC! 🙏🏽
Maggie! If your couch is old and a bit rugged & maybe your armchair ,add some lovely bright throws. Add a scented candle plus another to your kitchen!.. and as Susan says flowers 😊 Have a wonderful week with uour daughter ❤
Susan, I made a coment oncerning Maggie, I forgot to say, I knew you would do what you did for Maggie, you have such a BIG heart !! That is why you are blessed so much. Give and it shall be given unto to you, press down, shaken together and running over !!! That my dear friend it's the truth !!! Every week you give of yourself with such trasparency. You encourage us by examp!e and your singing with Desi, well, that's the icing on the cake. Blessings fir you and Desi. ❤.
Good morning dear friend! You make me tear up...you are so wonderful, beautiful an uniquely kind...but you knew that!!! Have a wonderful Sunday! Much Love, Susan & Desi
Susan this is why Uve watched you since you lost Cooper~~ I found you right after that heartbreak. OMG was I sobbing that first video I saw . Avtually, it was Patty Rockstar Mom that was talking for you because you were just to sad you couldn’t talk about it. Patty did a beautiful job explaining everything. That was a neat way I found her too! Bless you Susan, I’m such a dog lover like all your ladies are here. My yellow Labrador girl was getting older and starting to show her age. I could relate at the “ dagger in your heart” that was coming my way soon. I was glued to you then. YOU ARE UNIQUE. How gracious & kind that is to share some income with Maggie as a big surprise!!!! I love you Susan❤
@@LittlePoet I know how busy you are~~ just grateful for your reply!!! Yes.. Moon 🐶Sherman Tortoise🐢 & I WILL have a good week.. see you next Saturday ~~ “ it’s a deal” 🌸
Cleanliness, candles, flowers, everything you said about making the room she stays in luxury comfort. Small tray of her favorite snacks sitting by her bed with a small note from mom. So precious of you Susan to help this dear lady out financially. I pray the week of the visit leaves her glowing and basking in the memories of her daughter coming to see her momma!
Dear Susan, we moved to another state, our new house have wood floors, so I needed a big rug for our livingroom, but they are expensive !! We went to The Salvation Army and found a great big rug , for only $ 20.00 !!!! Everyone that has come to my house likes that rug. So, now , you have inspired me to thrift, thrift !!! So much fun, such an adventure. I could spend the entired day in just one p!ace. I also boght a beautiful dove from Lenox payed 2.00 or $3.00 for it. I saw it at an antique place for over $75.00 !!! So my axvise to this beautiful kady is, just clean your house, place 1 or 2 good smelling candles, get some f!owers and go thrifting !!!! One more thing, buy a frozen appke pie ( if you don't feel like baking) and make sure it's done wben she enters your home. The smell of a just baked aple pie is very conforting, even realtors use this trick. I will be praying that everything will be all that you hope for and more. God bless. ❤.
Susan, you are just the best!! I have been Following you for a few years and learning of the many life struggles you have had, I am so impressed with your positive and loving attitude. Thank you for being so open and honest about the problems in life that we all face. You make us strong just having you as a friend each week. Your kindness to Maggie is wonderful!!
When my son came to visit with my new grandchild I did all the usual things but what I noticed seem to make the most impact on him was seeing familiar objects around the place. I realized that what matters most to us is not necessarily what makes the most impact on our children. Do the best you can and leave the rest to The Lord😊🙏🏻💐
I think you have given Maggie a lot of great, down to earth ideas. I was thinking that Maggie needs to make her home special for her. So, after her daughter leaves she can enjoy it. Do things that you have always wanted it to be as well. Very generous gesture, Susan. You practise what you preach. I hope that Maggie’s visit goes well. I will be thinking of her. It would be nice to hear how it all went. I bet her daughter is as nervous as she is. Good luck with everything, Maggie! You can do it.
Susan, BLESS YOUR HEART for blessing Maggie and her daughter. I'm happy to know your were able to re-connect with your first son, and that your friends showed up to help you get ready...priceless!
You wouldn’t believe how much I look forward to your Saturday night chats! ❤ I like the flower idea…..and soft lighting. A beautiful large rug! And of course I love your twinkling lights on a faux olive tree (that’s what I have). Yes the soap idea on fresh sheets for her daughter is great! I love changing up my place.
She is coming to see YOU! Now...just for the fun of it, buy a new welcome mat & a pretty potted plant for the porch - just put most everything else away that is cluttering the porch. Inside set out a little dish of good chocolates by her bed. Flowers, of course, flowers. Fluff up the guest bed with a great pillow and turned down the sheet while placing a throw at the end of the bed. Perhaps a couple of new coffee/tea cups that you two could share a moment together. Perhaps spending some of that $250 on yourself would be a great idea as well. No stress. I am rooting for a wonderful time for you. In fact, I'm going to pray a little prayer for you as well. Blessings!
My favorite thing at this stage of life is to see women my age finding happiness with their lives and independence in their thoughts and choices. I wished I had known what I know now when I was younger.
Susan, I know you’ll be greatly blessed by your generosity, how very kind of you!!! Maggie I hope you have the most wonderful visit with your daughter!!!
Hello beautiful lady I have been forever following you You are an example to so many people Your smile and the way you present every topic Wish I could meet you one day I live in Malta
You are so blessed to have found such a pretty home and property. Your home is so cozy. It looks like a comforting home. Tsstefully put together. I love all your large windows. Light is very important to me. It truly affects my mood. Im one of those weather people. I just love your home ❤
What a lovely gesture to this lady. Bless your heart ❤️ and yes, fresh flowers makes you feel good and definitely creates a beautiful ambiance in any home ❤😊
I like lanterns!! I started a few years ago but now I have a lantern either on the floor or on a tabletop in every room of my condo. I have them on timers and when I come home, especially in the winter, I feel welcomed when I see the glow! Most use batteries so I’m not running up an electric bill but I do have to purchase batteries from time to time. I find them many times at my local church thrift stores for under $10, especially the white ones from funeral floral gifts. Those usually have a sentiment of words scripted on a glass pane so I use fingernail polish remover to wipe the words off the glass pane.
A clean house doesn’t cost anything. I love the idea of a bouquet of fresh flowers. I love putting mine in a mason jar with a ribbon tied around the neck of the jar. New towels and bedding would be my first purchase and then like someone else said before, bake some cookies and serve them on a pretty plate. Save some of the money for the two of you to go somewhere special for lunch.❤
Dear Maggie, One thing I do is shopping in my own house. We all have treasure in our home. Rearrange your furniture, pictures in the walls etc, for example I move to a small bedroom and leave the master to your daughter. New fresh sheets, candles and like Susan said flowers everywhere. Have you ever walked in a small store and its smell delicious that's what I mean. You can do it, good luck. ❤
Dear Susan, you are such a special person. It was so gracious of you to help Maggie in welcoming her daughter. I’m sure this will be a wonderful visit for them. I personally feel lucky to have found your channel. You are the best.💕
Susan, what a blessing you are not only to Maggie but to all of your subscribers ❤️. If I liked you so much then, I love you so much now! 💗 You totally stole my heart with your generosity towards Maggie. The word of God says" give, and it shall come back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over shall man give unto your bosom." Anything that is "pressed down and shaken together" is to make room for more!! Susan, you cannot out-give God. So I pray He opens up the flood gates of Heaven and pours out mighty blessings to you and your family for your loving kindness ❤. Mighty blessings Susan...the kind you have to press down and shake together to make room for loads and loads more. God bless you Susan. You are a 💎!! Maggie, have a wonderful time with your daughter ❤️. Eight years is such a long time to be apart. I hope you get to see her more often. Ladies on this channel, God bless you all!! ❤❤❤
Maggie, if you are able to manage to take down your curtains by yourself, give them a fresh laundering. Same with the sheets and blankets. Clear out some space in the closet and dresser drawers for your daughter to unpack while she is visiting. Dust, vacuum or sweep your floors. Around the rest of the house, make sure surfaces are cleared of clutter, papers, etc. The most important thing is just to relax and enjoy your daughter's visit. Blessings and much love to you both. Blessings to you Susan and Desi for sharing Maggie's story and for your generous gift.
A small hamper box with a small candle, lip balm and a framed photograph of you and your daughter placed on the bedside table as a welcome gift. A couple fluffy white bath towels, hand towels and face washers organised in a pretty wicker basket / tray in the guest bedroom or guest bathroom. Fresh flowers in a vase on a dining table. Most of all, just a big hug and big smile. Relax and enjoy your daughter's company.
Maggie, I asked my son , what his first thought was , when he entered my home. HE said the smell and memories . I have mostly used Avon's sweet honesty, as a underlying smell. I thought about my memories, of my Mom's home. It was her smile when she'd see me. And the same clean decor I remembered. As for smell, it was of fresh air. As she had a window , with a fan going. you don't need a strong odor or a lot of expensive 'stuff'. Just loads of love and happy memories. Also enjoy her visit.
I agree with Susan fresh flowers in every room and gorgeous vases. Maggie , could get a couple plugs in for the entry door. Gorgeous pillow covers in every room and lavender room spray. Sincerely Lorraine 🙏
Hi Susan & Maggie too!! One of my favorite decorating items is my electronic photo frame. When guests are at my home they love to see my photos go up on my screen. They are a great conversation piece and memories are shared. They really aren't that expensive but even when I'm home alone I feel I have family with me! Enjoy you visit with your daughter Maggie❤️
Hi Maggie❤️❤️❤️ I love this idea of everyone giving ideas! Personally I started thrifting tablecloths for the kitchen table and adding a thrifted crystal bowl that is always filled with fruit. Lemons, oranges…just light and fresh. Now when friends come to visit everyone gravitates to sit and chat at the table. Cheap way to add color and good vibes to your space❤
Oh you are way to kind! I think most of us pay our lives forward everyday!!! I just wanted to tell Maggie what I was going to do and suprose her in a video! and she loved it!!!
Susan that was so generous of you to give your return to Maggie! You are a incredibly kind person!Hopefully friends and neighbors will help Maggie freshen, organize and decorate her home for her daughter's arrival!Poor Desi had trouble with the fireworks?Maybe theyre over now.
hey~ Susan.. I have watching you from the beginning. My son (just) showed me how to read the comments. people write. & how to leave a comment. Your video today made me cry in the end, about Maggie your such a blessing.. I'm 79 can't believe it, have nice skin like you, I'm still pretty & am healthy. like you, I met my husband at 14 omg We are still together, But we didn't :"have to" get married until later, 18 whew! I think Pretty & Big boobs are a curse, ha! trouble for sure! anyway I enjoy all your video's I tell everyone how talented you are,, alrighty I'll see if this goes through. ? My son said mom she won't write back. but Thats o.k. xxxx
Hello there my sweet friend! Tell your son Susan did write back and she said to say hi to him! I want to thank him for helping you find the comment section. I am so touched you have been with me throughout the years!!! And I am so touched you understand young love...you are so beautiful and so kind. I am so lucky you are here! Much love always, Susan & Desi
Maggie sweetheart.... Please do two important things for me. Look at your home with love. Be proud of it. And do not apologize for anything. We all feel we need to, but no we don't. And your daughter will not expect you to. That usually makes people uncomfortable. I know because I did it too. And yes I sometimes do it too, shhhh. Lol I look forward to hearing all about it. May God guide you. HUGS 🙏🌸🍉🌽🍓🌼🙏🌹
Maggie, I am wishing you a wonderful reunion with your daughter and please let us all know how it goes. Susan’s decorating ideas are do-able and so inspiring! I’m hosting 2 high school girl friends this September for a reunion since graduation in 1970! So our guest room is getting an overhaul and getting rid of stuff. We are all so fortunate to have this special gathering place created by our lovely friend, Susan❤
I have to say clean windows inside and out will brighten any home! A little elbow grease doesn’t cost a thing! Have a wonderful visit with your daughter!❤
How lovely that your daughter is coming to visit you Maggie! Buy fresh flowers & make your home clean & tidy but .. she’s coming to see you, not your house. So spend the money going out together, visiting places & enjoying yourselves. Spend the money making memories .. memories are precious, not things ❤️ How kind of you Susan to send such a gift ☺️
Maggie, add some throw pillows, they are cheap at TJ Max, Home Goods, Marshalls. Add a matching throw. The curtains at those places are inexpensive too! It will freshen up the room. Take all the stuff off your porch and add a couple of flower pots to your front porch to gussy it up, their cheap at Walmart. Wishing you all the best. Susan, you have a heart of gold!!! Its so sweet to do what your doing for Maggie! Hugs and blessings to you and Desi!
@@LittlePoet hi Susan I just went to closing Friday for my mobile home I can’t move in for another week and a half to two weeks. I’m still living with my husband or X rather lol it is a very uncomfortable situation but I really don’t have any where else to go right now so I’m in a holding pattern still in less than two weeks I’ll be able to start my new life, so thank you very much for asking. You continue to be an inspiration to all of us especially me because I’m gonna be walking what you walked and I’m grateful that you have plowed the way and have given me hope that there’s happiness on the other side. Happy Sunday to you as well. God bless.
@@snuggleb100 oh I am hoping these 2 weeks fly for you!!! You sound like such a beautiful person and I Know you love your family so much...your own new home sounds so good!!
Most comments are about cleaning the home but I also enjoyed all Susan's other suggestions for a well kept home - flowers, rugs, lighting, decluttering etc. that we can all do - not just when we're having (special) company but for ourselves! We matter! We need to take care of ourselves and make our homes beautiful, inviting, warm, cozy and welcoming so we can go out in the world and be beautiful, inviting, warm etc. This was a wonderful video Susan that I learned a lot from - I so appreciate your smiles and advice on a weekly basis - AND I love the way you've style YOUR home.
Dear Susan, like so many others here I so look forward to your videos - every single one is a piece of beautiful, uplifting Art, and brightens my week no end 😊💞🪷 Love you and Desi so much, and love the beautiful supportive community we have here...🌼💖🌞
Maggie...we love you your daughter loves you and you love your daughter. All will be wonderful. The house will smell beautiful because you baked her favourite cookies lighting will be good fresh flowers in a vase and tea in beautiful cups. Enjoy Maggie she is your family. Wish I could be there. Sending virtual hugs. All
Susan, you are so loving to help Maggie out! How sweet of you. Maggie, just keep it clean and simple. What your daughter will remember the most is how you made her feel. Enjoy her visit ❤
Hi Maggie, I will echo some other ideas I’ve read on the comments…. Just clean and organize as best you can. Air out the house. Some fresh flowers on a table. Maybe a candle. Bake something she likes. Focus on her room…. clean fresh bedding (doesn’t have to be new) Don’t be surprised if she needs some ‘down’ time. As an introvert I really need little mental breaks during visits to recharge, and since it’s been a while since you’ve seen each other there can be added stress. So make her room a refuge for her and don’t feel bad if she needs to retreat now and then. Enjoy your visit!!
@@LittlePoet thank you. I do this when my kids come to visit and my father-in-law . He always says, “you made the house look so nice” ❤️ warms my heart heart ❤️
Great advice Susan. Maggie, Get rid of anything that you don't need or use. And just give your home a good fleshing up, but most importantly just give her your motherly love. I am praying for your reunion with your daughter to be a joyous get together ❤ please update us. See you and Desi next week! My little Bella ( she's our Morkie)says woof to Desi.
Auntie Susan thank you is not enough. You are really amazing friend and , things are never quite as Scary when we’ve you . Happy belated Independence Day . I have great news I want to share with you all channels Iam subscriber to . Iam going to be English teacher in academy improving plan for weak students. Iam only Arabic lady in several British and American UA-cam channels. Thank you all of you . This achievement due to your efforts you encouraged to read learn. Best wishes for you your dearest ones .
I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of us are chemically sensitive and that would put me in the ER. Cleanliness does not have to include toxic chemicals. Have you ever looked at the ingredients of fabreeze? Toxic.
Just a few drops of lavender 🪻 or peppermint in a spray bottle with a bit of water and vinegar....
Too much fragrance! 🤮
I have lived in my condo for 15^ years and look up one day and decided to get new curtains all around, makes a huge difference !
Susan, so nice of you to send Maggie $250 dollars to make her house special. You touched my heart! 💖
I feel the same. Susan, you have a beautiful heart!
Beautiful sounds like heaven to me❤
Yes this will be amazing however careful with candles
Oh so happy for Ms Maggie! And Susan your generosity was wonderful! All things work together for our good ❤🎉
@@nadiacauchi Yes, I learned the hard way to be very careful with candles.
This is the BEST idea! Oh how I would love to visit my momma with my favorite childhood treat waiting for me 🥰
Maggie- bake just before she arrives- the smell of cookies is very welcoming!
Amen. So true. Said a little prayer for you and your daughter. Be blessed Maggie.💓💗
Me too!
I have been praying for you too Maggie.
Love & blessings to you all.❤️❤️❤️
Love you so much! I am so lucky you are here! xo Susan & Desi
I too look forward to Saturday evenings. From: a "almost" 70 year old.
I agree 100%!
Can’t wait till Sat night to visit with my lovely friend Susan.
A clean home is a welcoming home.
110% agree😊
My dog is my only child. She doesn’t care about decorating!! She knows she’s special because I tell her every day.
Lovely ❤
I agree! I do the welcome basket as well, including a magazine or book I know the recipient will like, even if it's a crossword puzzle book and a special pen. I include their favourite treats and something cozy, like sleep socks.
@@guestguest2030 YES, that is perfect!!! 👌
Absolutely!! Great suggestions and sage advice!
Lovely comment/advice ✨️💕✨️🙏
I agree. Some of the things that seem old to you will be her memories. Even she will not know what will trigger her heart. Just love her.
Dear Susan, Beauty seems to surround you everywhere, but it's your inner beauty we all love so much. Thank you for what you bring to our lives every week. You are amazing.

Maggie, hire a cleaning lady. Declutter what you can. Honestly, that is best. Add fresh flowers.
@@paulk8473 yeah, don't stress yourself, spend the money on a cleaner.
I agree, clean/tidy, good food, and maybe an outing to something she enjoys.

One bouquet can extend through the home.
absolutely!
Yes ! You can divide that bouquet up and take greenery from your yard, maybe from shrubs or trees or wild things growing out back! I do this a lot
hi maggie- i don't ever strive to make my home look luxurious or expensive...i always strive for it to be cozy and welcoming and warm, and i don't want the sorts of things everyone else has or is doing or using or installing. i want the sort of home people feel like they just got a big hug, and is just me...homebody, ocean lover, gardener, writer, lover of art and all things beautiful ...for starters. aside from all the other great suggestions, when i have a guest coming to stay, no matter who it is, i make sure there are nice, clean linens on the bed and that the room is sparkling clean., and i put a fresh laundered white towel on top with a new, great smelling soap (in case they want to take a quick shower after a long trip) then, i have a lovely rose ceramic platter that i put on the dresser by the lamp, and it always includes a pink glass water decanter with a glass on top (it is a set and is lovely), filled with water, of course, some home made cookies freshly made that made my house smell awesome, some chocolate and an apple with a very small bouquet of flowers from my garden. it tells your guest...you matter to me.

I raised two boys as a single mom.
Hi, Maggie, I think displaying pictures of you and your daughter in your home would be an extra special bonus for updating your home.
OH MY GRAVY!!! Susan, you are so generous!!! You made me cry like a baby!!!
A good cleaning, fresh flowers, fresh lamp shades, new pillow covers, and a small something/something decor piece that gives you pleasure.
I’m so glad your meet up went well 💗
So sorry this happened to you that must have hurt badly.

Yes we sometimes forgot the hidden treasures we have. Great suggestion.
Oh so touching!!!
Give your daughter a big smile and greet her by her name. Make her welcome and the most important person in your life. Nothing else matters.

Gardening is nature's way of believing in the future. Nothing makes me happier than seeing beautiful gardens.
This is beautiful! What a great quote!!! OMG!!! Thank you!
Maggie, I think finding sweet photos of her and the family framed in the area she will sleep would be a nice touch. Bringing back great memories tugs at the heart and strikes conversation.
Oh perfect!! I should have included this! I bet Maggie has something so special planned!! Makes me feel so good!!!
That's a lovely idea. I'm thinking of the practical and you nailed it with that sweet thought! ❤
We have sold a few homes and always put a loaf of banana bread in the oven for a showing. Smells so good!
Great idea!!
The most touching story I've ever heard on here. Dear Maggie, enjoy your daughter, memories cost nothing.
YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great advice!

Declutter, dust, flowers, candles, new towels or sheets for you guests. 💗
I agree of the idea flowers, soap and clean sheets.
Aw Susan thanks for giving to her. Sweetest to give to her. ❤ Much Love. ❤.
Dear Susan, Angels are in your life.......Thank You so much for being YOU. HUGS
I do believe that! At times I almost feel like I am flying! Much love to you and yours always, Susan & Desi
I hope Maggie gives us a report on everything she does in her home and how the visit went. We would love to hear!
How sweet, kind, and generous of you Susan!
Maggie, all the best to you. Enjoy your visit with your daughter. ❤❤
Hi Susan.....
The pink princess is really showing off she is so pretty and vibrant .Well done ! She must really love living where she is.
Maggie I know your daughter will be so happy to see you she won't even notice if you don't have " luxury"
However ,it's so important for you to feel confident and reassured that your space feels homely ...
With love

so lovely!!!
That was really a generous thing to do Susan. May God richly blessed you. ❤
Hi Maggie,
You touched my heart in a special way.
Greetings and Praying for you / your daughter from NYC! 🙏🏽
Clutter gives me depression and I got rid of a lot of stuff and I feel great again !
Maggie!
If your couch is old and a bit rugged & maybe your armchair ,add some lovely bright throws.
Add a scented candle plus another to your kitchen!.. and as Susan says flowers 😊
Have a wonderful week with uour daughter ❤
Susan, I made a coment oncerning Maggie, I forgot to say, I knew you would do what you did for Maggie, you have such a BIG heart !! That is why you are blessed so much. Good morning dear friend! You make me tear up...you are so wonderful, beautiful an uniquely kind...but you knew that!!! Have a wonderful Sunday! Much Love, Susan & Desi
Love the Scripture you shared!❤
Thank you so much for being so kind...I am so lucky you found us ladies! I hope your new week is going great!!!
@@LittlePoet I know how busy you are~~ just grateful for your reply!!! Yes.. Moon 🐶Sherman Tortoise🐢 & I WILL have a good week.. see you next Saturday ~~ “ it’s a deal” 🌸
@@deborahhenderson5219 Alright!!!
Use flowers in your yard or ask neighbors for flowers
One more thing, buy a frozen appke pie ( if you don't feel like baking)
and make sure it's done wben she enters your home. The smell of a just baked aple pie is very conforting, even realtors use this trick. I will be praying that everything will be all that you hope for and more. God bless. ❤.
Oh how wonderful!!! A good pretty rug!!!
@@ivybonanno2050 baking chocolate chip cookies works too!! Even the local grocery store brands smell amazing as they bake!!!
Susan, that was such a sweet gesture!❤
Susan, you are a wonderful person!
I don’t usually comment but, you touched my heart Susan…. We need more people like you.
Perfect ideas!!!
Susan, BLESS YOUR HEART for blessing Maggie and her daughter. I'm happy to know your were able to re-connect with your first son, and that your friends showed up to help you get ready...priceless!
You wouldn’t believe how much I look forward to your Saturday night chats! ❤
I like the flower idea…..and soft lighting. A beautiful large rug! And of course I love your twinkling lights on a faux olive tree (that’s what I have). Yes the soap idea on fresh sheets for her daughter is great! I love changing up my place.
Me too!! Every Saturday night I check in.
Blessings!
You're amazing! Those are wonderful suggestions.
My favorite thing at this stage of life is to see women my age finding happiness with their lives and independence in their thoughts and choices. I wished I had known what I know now when I was younger.
If you say a little prayer for God to bless your time together, I believe that he will. I'll say a prayer for you too🥲🙏💖🥰
Definitely ask the God who loves to bless your time with your daughter! That’s what really matters❣️
Susan, I know you’ll be greatly blessed by your generosity, how very kind of you!!! Maggie I hope you have the most wonderful visit with your daughter!!!
Hello beautiful lady
I have been forever following you
You are an example to so many people
Your smile and the way you present every topic
Wish I could meet you one day I live in Malta
Such a lovely place. I think we all wish we could meet Susan, she is just such a lovely human being. Sahha
What a lovely comment.
Fresh towels, sheets, and a small basket with some of her favorite treats on the bed waiting to welcome her home 🏡 is a sweet surprise.
You are so blessed to have found such a pretty home and property. Your home is so cozy. It looks like a comforting home. Tsstefully put together. I love all your large windows. Light is very important to me. It truly affects my mood. Im one of those weather people. I just love your home ❤
Yes ,I am a weather person too,it definitely affects my mood!!
Can you ask you a question if you don’t mind?
A clean house doesn’t cost anything. I love the idea of a bouquet of fresh flowers. I love putting mine in a mason jar with a ribbon tied around the neck of the jar. New towels and bedding would be my first purchase and then like someone else said before, bake some cookies and serve them on a pretty plate. Save some of the money for the two of you to go somewhere special for lunch.❤
Dear Maggie,
One thing I do is shopping in my own house. ❤
Oh dear Susan. You give such joy, encouragement, enthusiasm, love & caring for your viewers. This video lifted me.
I love hanging out with you Susan.
Maggie,
I asked my son , what his first thought was , when he entered my home.
I have bought a number of lovely vases at my thrift store
I have tears in my eyes! You are such a kind and generous person. ♥️♥️
Have your home home in order and smelling clean.
My grandson 27 told me a couple of years ago he remembers my house always smelled so nice.😊
And food cooking😊
Can you ask you a question if you don’t mind?
hey~ Susan.. I have watching you from the beginning. My son (just) showed me how to read the comments. people write. & how to leave a comment. Your video today made me cry in the end, about Maggie your such a blessing.. I'm 79 can't believe it, have nice skin like you, I'm still pretty & am healthy. like you, I met my husband at 14 omg
We are still together, But we didn't :"have to" get married until later, 18 whew!
Thank you Susan for my reply, you make my days! My son won't believe it~ ha! much love!
I wish I could hit that thumbs up a million times ❤️
Hello my sweet friend! How are you doing with your new life? Much love to you and happy Sunday!!!
Dear Susan, like so many others here I so look forward to your videos - every single one is a piece of beautiful, uplifting Art, and brightens my week no end 😊💞🪷
Love you and Desi so much, and love the beautiful supportive community we have here...🌼💖🌞
Maggie...we love you your daughter loves you and you love your daughter.
Fresh flowers, candles , and fresh cleaned laundry! Also, clean towels in the bathroom and nice smelling soap.
All free or not expesive! !!! I love it!!!
