    Lmao my budgie absolutely hates baths. I have tried bathing him in the sink, a bowl, wet grass, etc. I usually just use a spray bottle. He hates the spray too, he runs away from it so I usually just spray him 2 or 3 times and stop bc he wont tolerate anything else lmao. Whenever i give him a bath in the sink he chirps like crazy and just flys on my head. I'll get him off my head and move him near the running water and he just squaks and flys on my head to get away lol. I hate to force him but my bird is pretty nasty so he needs to be clean so I just use a spray bottle, even though he hates that too he will tolerate it more than a bowl or the sink. The spray bottle works best for me and my budgie Kenny..I suggest to use a spray bottle if your bird is too stubborn to take a bath himself in a bowl. Lol.

Well I tried the spray bottle but he would fly away and he will get super upset. I took me a while to gain his trust again so I don't know what to do now

    Omgosh! What a great video!! After MANY tries n fails even the vacuum. I got my budgies to start taking baths by putting a mirror under the water. My babies were so afraid of water, metal n glass so I tried a silicone rubber pie pan which is also non-slip (safety first!) and easy on the toosies too. They just love it.The water stays warm a little longer too. Now they are taking a dip all the time.

      That's a great option. I forgot to mention about a mirror. I have a bath with a mirror that my budgies love. The stainless steel bowls are like a mirror, my Cockatiels look at themselves and go in, 😀

You bring a certain peace to the frenetic, fast moving world of parrots. I dont see any ocd in you, nor any hysteria, feigned or real. I need that calm sometimes. I have a little 4 month old Cockatiel Peanut. I've only had her 2 weeks so still getting her to trust me. I heard about the spray method on UA-cam however I am not sure if she likes it or not. But she does respond the same way your bird did. But really would rather her taking a bath at her own free will. I've been trying using what I have at the moment a plastic container, but when you said try stainless steel or even glass I'll try these ideas first as I do have item's here already. This makes sense to me. As for Christmas she got a new much bigger house that has stainless steel water and food bowls, today I noticed peanut was standing in her drinking water. So that got me thinking maybe if it was bigger she might have used it as a bath. Now after watching this video I'm going to try this. Thank you. Just don't know why I never thought of this before. As it will fit in her big house now.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому +1

      Cockatiels do enjoy looking at themselves in the stainless steel and once they are in the dish to have a closer look at themselves they will take a bath 😀. Good luck with your Cockatiel and have fun.

    My gcc like the sink, with running water of course. I put a washcloth down so it's not so slippery. He also likes the shower perch and to be sprayed down, I don't do this near his cage as to keep the cage dry. Jake just loves his baths for sure! Nice options you give, thanx

      Love of Pets,
      They like drinking from it but they don't like bathing in it. But it giving cleaner drinking water for longer. Which was a big part or the goal. I might go down to home Depot and get a piece of pipe so the flower is hight up so they can fit under it better. I'm guessing that is what they don't like.

    Please reply....
    I have a question. After bathing your birds do you need to dry them with some sort of towel or hairdryer?
    Or do you let them dry themselves ? (I mentiomed hairdryer bc i watch ppl do that to their birds)

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому

      All my birds dry themselves by preening. When birds bath they usually don't get soaked and dry naturally.

    This was such a helpful video! Thank you. I recently got a blue and gold macaw baby, he is 10 months old and haaaaaates water. I have had him for about a month and have only twice succeeded in giving him a shower. I tried the pan bath thing but he wasnt having it. He will "submit" to being sprayed with a water bottle, if he can sit on my shoulders. But he doesnt enjoy it, which is why I dont want to do it. I will try these and hopefully find a way that he loves!

    I just got a pair of cockatiels this week which are both very dirty and I noticed they once dropped a very small insect into their food bowl. Is it safe for the birds to give them a bath in the first week of getting them? I've had them for 3 days at the time of writing this, both are male and both seem to be over 1 year old.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 років тому +1

      Congratulations on your new Cockatiels! If your birds are not scared and settled in then yes give them a mist bath or offer a dish of water for them.
      If they are scared and skittish then offer a dish of water to bath in and hold off on the misting until they are more settled in.

      @@Loveofpets one of my birds is scared and the other gives me 1 or 2 warning bites before getting bored. I assume the dish should be a fair bit bigger then the water bowl, would a small dessert bowl filled with water work? Should I maybe try to put some leafy greens in the water as well?

    • @Loveofpets

    I have a cockatiel and he is a picky eater! He only eats a few type of seeds from his mix and I’m afraid he’s not not getting a well balanced diet .... also cockatiels usually end up having liver problems due to poor diet! I’ve tried a few different brands and also a few different pellet brands! Any suggestions? Is there a particular brand you use?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 років тому

      Fresh foods are best. Make some chop and limit seeds. Have you tried Tops pellets? Tops is the best pellet. Take seeds away at night and offer only the chop in the morning. If he does not eat the chop try different methods with fresh foods. Some birds like their fresh food in bigger chunks or hung from the cage bars. Here is a video I made about fresh foods ua-cam.com/video/XP1KxvKDG_Q/v-deo.html

    My cockatiel is obsessed with sticking his feet in water, but never wants to actually bathe XD
    When I have my (drinking) water out without a lid, he will go up, stick a foot in it, then walk away.

    Hi there. Wow! What a fab video. You have so many lovely birds and appear to look after them all so well. How do you get time to work. Ha
    I live in Wales in the UK and have a just over a year old male English Budgie, his name is Eddie.
    He's been quite grumpy of late and doesn't come out of his cage much. I wonder if you could give me some tips please. He will have a bath in a bowl , infact he appears to love this.Ive taught him a few words and he chats away. He eats well. Do you think he's going through a thase or coming up to a moult maybe.
    I have am 50 married with no children, I'm not too well with Sjogrens Syndrome and Fibromyalgia so I struggle to get downstairs in the morning. Do you think he's be better coming upstairs in the morning to be with me. I'd be so happy to get any advice you may have.
    Keep up the good work. Thank you.

      Hi, yes he would be happy to be with you in the morning. Make outside of his cage interesting and enticing by putting millet, and special treats in an area such has a bird stand area with shredding toys etc. Keep the door open and put his bath outside of the cage. If he is molting they do get cranky.

      Love of Pets Hi there. Thanks for your quick response. On the floor right below his cage I have set up ladders and lots of activities for him to play with. He use to come down and play for ages. Tonight I managed to entice him down, but I was a quick fly down and sqwark and squeak back up to his cage.
      I appreciate all your advice.
      Sometimes when he comes to me he will fly onto my hand and then bite really hard sometimes a couple of times. I've tried rolling my hand to stop and I've also tried saying no quite firmly. What would you suggest. Is it because he wants me to have food in my hand? I'm feeling like a helpless Mummy. Could I email you some photos maybe?

    Hi..I have a question.. I have 30 days cockatiel chick.. it's smells a lot.. how to take her for a bath??

  • @KutWrite
    @KutWrite 6 років тому +1

    Wow, fun to watch and educational, too.
    My Green Cheeked Conure, Jasper does not like to bathe. He will sometimes dip into my ice water when I'm not looking. He gets his whole head under water for a second, dips his neck in, flaps his (dry) wings. Then he takes hours to "dry off." He hates it if I spray him.
    I have a little cat drinking fountain. Jasper loves watching the fountain and listening to it. That' s it, though so far.
    My Canary Winged 'keet, Zeke, insists on being sprayed many times a day. If I don't he bathes in his drinking water.
    He, too watches the fountain for hours, but I haven't seen him dip into it. It might be too deep. I got it because it has a nice, smooth edge that seems the right size for them to grip. I have a 60 day return privilege on it, so we'll see.
    I'm also tempted to try your DIY bird bath. Only thing, it looks messy. I don't really have a place that can get too wet without ruining something.
    Thanks again for posting!

      Some birds think they have bathed and only their head is wet or they have a drop of water on them lol. You are lucky to own a canary wing, there is none in Canada.

    I used a plant mister for my Amazon. He got nervous at first, so I moved away from him a bit, and kept spraying. After a while he spread out his big gorgeous wings, and turned this and that way. It was super cute. I think every bird loves showering even if they seem nervous at first.

      Is the water safe for you to drink? What kind of drinking water do you give your birds? If it's from the sink and you drink it also then yes it's safe to bathe in. My water had chlorine but it's minimal and it's safe for humans and pets

      Hi. Thank you. Male grey Cockatiels will develop a Yellow head and the females head will stay grey. If it's a baby you will have to wait until it's older or get a dna test.
      Males whistle more then females.

    I have paid a fortune to several avian vets which all gave me conflicting information or didn't want to take the time regarding questions and feather plucking with my cockatiel.
    His liver count has been high for a couple years even though he doesn't get seeds. He gets Harrison's pellets and Nitriberries, which my recent vet that's all he needed to eat for a healthy diet. He said I had to give him by mouth liquid milk thistle twice a day for the rest of his life, but he hates me doing it and I'm afraid the stress isn't good for him.
    Can you tell me what you feed your cockatiels and do you give daily supplements? My bird has a huge cage 10 feet wide and three feet high with the side cage doors opened in his aviary room so he can fly around, be on perches outside the cage or go in when he wants, but most of the time he hangs out with me. I've spent another fortune on toys, and foraging toys, but he will not play with any of them, even when I show him how. Is it normal for some birds to be like that?
    Thank you so much again for sharing your knowledge so others like me can give our birds the best life possible. Cindy

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 років тому

      Hi, I feed my Cockatiels lots of veggies such as Romain lettuce, kale, chard, parsley, arugula etc. The darker green the better. I give cucumber, carrots, peas, corn, sweet peppers, broccoli, brown cooked rice and or quoinea and cooked pasta. Scrambled eggs or boiled eggs and squash and sweet potatoes. I don't give everything at once and change it up with the season. They also like banana, grapes, apples, watermelon etc but not too much fruit as it's high in sugar.
      Nutraberries are high in sugar so only give once in a while. I feed zupreem natural and the fruit flavored pellets along with a Cockatiel seed mix but more pellets than seed. They also get some spray millet has a treat or reward for doing something right.
      My Cockatiels love soft wood and shredding toys. What kind of toys do you give your Cockatiels?

    • @cindywoodrum5037
      @cindywoodrum5037 5 років тому

      @@Loveofpets Thank you for replying back. The avian vet I went to told me to just feed pellets and Nutriberries but I knew he was wrong. He also convinced me to surgically put a hormone pellet in his back and now my cockatiel is feather plucking twice as bad. The only thing my bird likes to do is chew bossil (sp?) wood.
      I'm going back this Friday to have the hormone pellet removed then look for another avian vet.
      Thanks again and love your UA-cam videos 😊👍. Cindy
