  • In this video I show you how to make chop and share one of my recipes.
    #Loveofpets
    "Chop" refers to a finely chopped mix of cooked and uncooked food such as grains, legumes and vegetables that you can feed your birds. The mix allows you to incorporate a diverse array of nutritious ingredients into your bird's daily diet.
    Chop can be frozen and thawed overnight to be ready to be fed in the morning. Some birds may prefer their chop to be warmed up in the microwave for a few seconds while others eat it cold.
    Foods that are toxic
    Avocado
    Salty foods
    Chocolate
    Fruit pits
    Apple seeds
    Onions and garlic
    Caffeine
    Tomatoes
    Mushrooms
    Leaves-stems-vines from the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant)
    Rhubarb leaves
    Raw - dry beans
    Peanuts (tree nuts are okay in moderation)
    Xylitol

    As I watched this video (I am a middle aged man BTW) I started to see the delicious almighty chop from the point of view of one of the pet birds, 🐦 (lol) , instead of a pet owner which I am (planning to add a parrot to my dog, cat and aquarium fish), and suddenly I felt a deep sense of gratitude on the behalf of all the birds to OP alias Parrot Mama 😘
    Even as a non-parrot I think that chop is a more balanced diet than what I eat 😂😂

    Love it. I only have 2 birds, an eclectus and a cockatiel. I only make a small batch so I don't even need to freeze it. I give my eclectus fresh chop twice daily, and my cockatiel (prefers his seeds) only gets it once a day. It usually doesn't last more than 4-5 days so it stays fresh in the fridge.

      Hello, I have been looking for this information for so long in all videos but no one tells how many times to offer this chop to the birds. Just adopted a female cocateil and she does not like much of the vegetables. I am so confused on what to feed her as most of the videos tell that millets and seeds are to be given sparingly and we do not get pellets in my country. It will be very kind of you if you could share your birds diet with me. Thanks

I used to have zebra finches and a few other finches and I let them out. They are smart and knew when it was time to go back in. I would put a piece of spray millet in the cage and they would go in when I said it's bedtime. I hope your birds will enjoy the chop.

If they still don't eat it consider not free feeding or taking their pellet or dry food mix out of the cage at night and feed chop in the morning if they don't eat it in an hour or two take it out and put their regular food back in try everymorning for a week or so and I bet hill eat it

      Hi, I used to only use a chopper and then I got a food processor and it changed my life. If was like driving a top of the line Mercedes, lol. I love the food processor as it can chop, shred and slice and has many speeds and more.
      I could not believe the difference a good processor would make so I recommend a good processor

      The shorter the time the better but it can be stored for 4 months and sometimes 6. Take all the air out of the bag.

      You can feed celery but it has little nutrional value. It's best to feed more nutrional value foods and add celery as a treat.

    Would you please be willing to give me some advice. I am getting a baby lovebird soon. I bough a Hagan Large short cage but I'm worried now after more research that it really isnt deep enough for an active love bird. Could you please tell me an ideal cage or two specifically for them? I also have a baby parrotlet that I was going to put in an identical hagan cage and a parakeet in a hagan medium that I am also thinking is too narrow. Thank you so much!!

      Hi, this is my favorite cage
      amzn.to/2SCph62 It's very roomy for lots of toys, perches, swings, and food and water bowls.
      The bigger the better is always best. Or this one amzn.to/2SYy54T the bars are a bit flimsy on this cage, it should be okay for a small bird but not big birds with big beaks

    How long would something like this keep in the fridge for? And is it safe leaving it out all day?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому

      It may last three days but it's best to freeze it if it won't be consumed by then . It's best to take it out after a few hours . Most birds will eat it right away

    Hey hun, I had a quick question for you that maybe you can help me with. I rescued two make Budgies a few years ago. In the last few months one of the males bonded with my female. Yesterday I found the male had passed away (I knew they were older when I took them) leaving my poor female without her mate and she has eggs. What should I do? I'm so worried for my girl.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому +1

      Sorry about your budgie. Are the eggs fertile? If they are fertile the female will try to raise them herself but you may have to handfeed the babies if she does not feed them as it's a lot of work for her to do herself.

    • @heavenleigh3344

      @@Loveofpets I candled them and two out of the five were. I currently have them in a incubator, I didn't want to risk my girls health and will hand raise the chicks. I have two males (one older that came in with the male who passed) one older and one younger who is a rescue with a broken and fused leg. I don't know if I should leave her with the males (the older male courts the younger male)?

    i was wondering if frozen berries are ok to feed... we humans love to eat frozen ( but thawed) blueberries, cherries, mango and blackberries and were wondering if that would be ok for our birds too. Sometimes these berries are not in season so not always available fresh. (only feeding them fruits a couple times a week )

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  Рік тому

      Keep trying. 3 weeks is a short time. He is getting used to the new environment. Sometimes it can take months before they eat the fresh food. Offer the fresh food in the morning. Remove seeds the night before. Limit seeds. Avoid hanging spray millet or seed sticks in the cage as thats all they will eat and may not want to eat fresh foods. Sprinkle a bit of seed on the fresh foods to entice him to eat

    Do you know how much does it cost to trims your birds beak??

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому

      The cost would depend on your area and where you take your bird. You could go to a bird groomer or avian vet. Where I am avian vets would need to exam your bird first so there is an examination fee and usually the examination fee includes beak trimming and nail trimming. My vet charges $100.00. Bird groomers may be cheaper.
      If your bird has a beak where it needs constant trimming the vet may charge less if you go often but generally the first visit they need to be examined. Google avian vets and bird groomers in your area and ask their fee.

    How long it last the chop? One month or so? Thanks

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому

      Hi, I use one bag a day. I had 9 bags so 9 days. It will last longer if I put a smaller amount in the bags or had less birds. I usually put enough in each bag for the amount of birds that I have so if you have half the amount of birds that I have and you put 1.5 cups in a bag it will last 18 days. Make sure to freeze it as it can only last around three days in the fridge.
