    I'd never tried this, but want to put a recent trip to New Mexico in a slideshow format, as I took over 2,000 pics! This will be a HUGE help! Thank you for directions that make sense!!!

    This is an excellent video, and I'm glad you pointed out the disappointments in Lightroom. I was hoping to use it for the "Ken Burns Effect" but the pan and zoom option is extremely disappointing as well, as I couldn't find a way to control or change any of the preset experience. It pans and zooms as it wishes, with no ability to alter it, so one can't choose where in the photo they want it to pan or zoom to, and it randomly applies the panning and zooming. I couldn't find any options to change any of it. I guess it's back to the learning curve on HitFilm or another package. Glad I didn't chuck out the money for Adobe Lightroom software before trying it.

    Regarding text overlays, there is an ABC button in the bar below the image (at least in Lightroom 3) where you can select where it will pull the text (caption, title, equipment, or custom text). I have used it to display names of birds in the images of birds. Hope this helps someone.

    Nice! I agree with your commentary on improvement possibilities with the slideshow module. One thing you didn't cover that I'd love to know is how one can select how to show file names for the slideshow. Hmmmm?

  • @scottlayne6987

    Correct. Pretty tough to work with, perhaps in the future. I noticed also...you can't REORDER your photos, so needs to be done before IMPORT. Unless you've found another way. But thank you. Very helpful.

    Nice to watch this tutorial. I never used the slide show module before. I am going to give it a try now. Wat extension is the slideshow? Is it only for watching on a computer or can you use it on your webpage also? It might be interesting for those who did a photoshoot and give a slideshow with the pictures as an extra gift. Again....I like your Lightroom vids very much! Greatings from Harry Kramer from Holland!

    • @clearlyed
      @clearlyed  8 років тому +1

      Thanks so much for writing Harry. You can export your slideshow as a video i believe however you cannot do it as a gif. there are many gif converters on line though so you could maybe go that rout. A slideshow can be great for giving to clients or to have playing at an event. Thanks for watching

    it might be worth pointing out that Lightroom works much faster in preparing slideshows if you convert the images that you want to show into jpg's rather than RAW files. No visible loss in quality.

    • @clearlyed
      @clearlyed  8 років тому +2

      That is a very good point indeed, although this adds another step to the process which still slows things down. the images refer quickly inside develop and library so I am not sure on the reason for the lag in the lightrom slideshow module. Great Ideas though.

    • @rbtubee2
      @rbtubee2 8 років тому +2

      I have found that I can't even create a slideshow from my DNGs. I read this is a problem with the software. To work around it you have to export as jpgs then import, then make slideshow from jpgs. I call that a true PAIN. Not to mention that I didn't search the problem until having upgraded to CC and tried to create a slide show THREE times with zero results. grrrrr.

      I am learning how to make my real estate photos into slideshow videos for marketing. I often have one or two photos that I have to take into photoshop to add in skies, etc, so I think the added step of importing jpg.s may be a necessary step for me which isn't the end of the world. I would just import my final Jpg picks as a new import and quickly make the slideshow. Great video! I particularly find helpful the tip about leaving a wider border on the side for branding or text.

    Thanks for the tutorial! I love all the ones I've seen so far. So, since Lightroom may not be the best slideshow creator, which program would you recommend (for PC and Mac)?
    I'm just about finished editing a batch of photos from a recent trip and was looking at trying out Lightroom's slideshow feature for the first time, because, well because I want to create one and Lightroom just so happens to be able to do so. But, if that feature is just ok, then maybe there is something else I could try.

    Love your work, great videos, teaching me plenty. I would agree, it's a very half hearted and ill conceived addition. It strikes me as an unnecessary add-on, just there to pad out the program. It doesn't add to it, it clutters it.

      Try Rescue Pro Deluxe by San disk.
      I took a trip to Peru and brought several SD cards with me. 2 of them brand new. To tell story short they got corrupted after getting full or so I think. So I downloaded the ¨conveniently¨ free software that came with them and I got back most of the pictures back. I´d say than more than 98% of them. The names were changed to something like: file0249 and so on but it´s a minor issue I guess.
      Good luck.

    Hi Ed, although intro was negative when you got to the details I thought overall most features were described quite positively. When a slideshow is built can it be exported in a video format?

    • @clearlyed
      @clearlyed  8 років тому

      I actually wish I was not so naive at the beginning of this, its not really my style. I think there are some awesome features which is why I wanted to do a tutorial on it I just get frustrated with the few negative points so much so that I just don't use that module at all. maybe I should spend more time with it. Yes you can export as either a pdf, jpegs or a video. Its in the bottom left under 'export' i believe.

    Great video, I give you an A on demonstration and knowledge, totally agree with you, Lightroom is not the best software for slideshow demonstration, the background should truly be the first application in the tool bar, and apple really does make the best software for slideshows. Adobe receives an A not an A+

    TEXT OVERLAY you skipped over this, which is funny as it was the whole reason for me searching and finding your tutorial. I found out how though! At the bottom of the image bar you click on ABC and it brings up a text overlay input which gets appended to the image in the same way as IDENTITY PLATE and WATERMARK

      you are correct that I didn't have my heart in this one.... I will be sure to keep things positive in the future. WHY are there so many views? This video isn't even thorough. He harps over thoughts and opinions on the Adobe product and goes on and on about his favorite features, then just skips over parts he doesn't know about. Sweet tutorial bro. naaaht.

  • @andywilk38
    @andywilk38 7 років тому

    Yup. I find the slideshow module limited and flakey, as well as difficult to refine. IMO, it is the final refining, detailing, nuancing, synchronisation, timing etc, that really makes a slideshow stand out. Anybody can produce the 80%, but if your software prevents you from attaining the extra 20%, then it sucks!

    Why not tell us what program is good for making slideshows??? Movavi slideshow maker takes my perfectly processed lightroom photos un watchable. Super high saturation and super red faces in sports photo's. No updates available. I think they want a monthly fee now from purchased software users. I don't want my photo's changes at all. Every software wants you to adjust your photos with a slideshow maker. I just want to make a damn slideshow!

  • @andywilk38

    When choosing stroke border or background colour, if you first click and hold the colour picker inside the colour box, you can then - continue holding - drag the colour picker outside the box and onto the image from where you can pick a particular colour by hovering over it, and letting go. This can be useful if you want to artistically reflect an actual colour from the image in the border or background or, indeed, title font colour...

  • @thatsaloadofcrap

    You are correct sir! LR Slideshow is CRAAAAP, they stole it from the 90s. iMovie works better. Step 1: Export from LR to JPG, Step 2: Import to iMovie. ....Automatic Ken Burns effects, Music, Transitions, Titles, blah blah blah...
    Obviously, anyone serious would use Premier or FCPX. I use FCPX which has all kind of plugins to make professional slideshows. For fast & quick, I still use iMovie.
    HINT: Right click on the Module selection menu and uncheck BOOK & Slideshow to make them go by-by, they're both worthless. See Tony Northrup's latest UA-cam on "Adobe Fix Lightroom!"

      I think they are missing the boat -they certainly have the resources to do it better - but more than that maybe they need a whole new re-write in LR and as an aside I would appreciate being able to increase fonts etc. for tools in PS especially given the giant monitor I have. I can hardly make out the tools and menu selections for some things -that should be user adjustable - probably not an issue with small screens 10 years ago. Adobe needs to get more user-centric - like not beta testing stuff on the public which they seemed to have done lately even if accidentally. Things move faster and they need to get with it and understand that with the cloud things goes both ways - faster more money for them - more responsibility to be right and innovate due to social media and the voice of the consumer amplified on-line. It has to stop being this one-way money grubbing thing. I think in the long run companies that annoy the customer or fail to improve obvious shortcomings or defects or lousy product features that need improvement will pay a lot more because with the internet everybody has a big mouth imho. Best wishes to all!
