Hi Ed, love your videos! I notice in your other videos your white balance and tint always seem to start at zero...how do you get from adjusting the white balance and then the sliders being at zero?
Ed, I always advice people to get it right in Camera. I don't advice them though to go into the Kelvin mode and adjust it to the degree but choose from the 5 or 6 standard settings in your camera. Why, cause at that moment you can compare the shot with the environment you are experiencing at that moment. (cause when you are at home a couple of days later, you can't remember how yellow or blue the light was on that occasion). You can always fine tune it afterwards like you are showing in your great vid here. But make your source as good as can by setting it (almost) right in camera .
+RS That is fantastic advice. Thats how i started this video 'get it right in camera'. Setting white balance in lightroom is extremely powerful as it effects the entire color range differently the n just using a color filter. It intelligently does an amazing job of either fixing any indues or changing the 'feel' of an image. So happy you enjoyed this lightroom tutorial.
Thanks Ed. Nice tutorial. So if I correct the white balance on my first image in Lightroom and then I sync it for the rest of the subsequent photos, my white balance should be correct for all photos?
If they were all taken in the same lighting conditions and with the same white balance setting then yes. But I if you used auto white balance in camera. If you did this then you should do it for each photo individually
Hi Ed, Sheila here, I find you very clear on all of your tutorials. I’ve learned a great deal from you and I thank you for that. My question is this, do you have a guide for us beginners to follow in the form of a book, PDF, anything we can hold in out hands? Thank you so much
I would say dont get too technical on the white balance. this is just a way to get your image to a good starting point. remember you are about to get creative with you editing. so select a lightroom white balance that looks the best to you. Numbers are not very artistic. thats just my opinion.
Hahaha you hoped that nobody notices that audio at 0:19, but you did great job fixing it in post.. :D Great tutorial, as always! Love your videos! Cheers! :D
+Nikola Aleksić thank you so much. I don't remember what I said but it was not what j meant. Hehehe. Well spotted and j hope you liked the rest of the white balance tutorial. Thanks for your support.
+Scott Odell I use a grey card when setting white balance for photography in 2 ways. firstly you can set the white balance in camera. Most DSLR cameras will have a setting allowing you to shoot a grey card in the lighting conditions, it analyses it and sets up the white balance setting for accurate tcolor temperature. You should do this each time the lighting changes. Indoor, out door, etc. Alternatively it can be your saving grace in lightroom 6 or lightroom CC. Basically do it at the beginning then use the color dropper in lightroom to set the white balance using the photo of that card. Now just sync the white balance setting to all the photos. It will spend everything up 100%. I hope this helped with you lightroom edits in 2016
Hi Ed, Love your videos. I'm an absolute beginner in this stuff and I have a little problem. I'm making a yoga poster with my wife and took shit load of pictures on few different photoshoots. The exposure is not always accurate so, although always wearing the same outfit, the colour of it is differently dark. Is there any way to take a set of photos and adjust the white balance so all look the same? Regards Felix
+Felix “Franski” Grétarsson Thanks for getting in touch. The idea of setting white balance means that all images will be set to the same color temperature. Setting the white balance in lightroom is awesome but you will always need to select the same shade of white in each image. if she is always wearing a white top then selecting this each time should give the same color temperature. Remember though if the images are taken in very different lighten goondidtionsd then they are going to look different, this is the beauty of photography. if you want them to all look the same then try to do this when taking the photos where possible. Try setting the white balance for each image. Then use the tone cute to add some color to the image. Copy this across all the images and then will get the same feel. You can do the same this with spilt toning to give all the images the same color toning.
Thank you for an amazing tutorial! May I ask what your keyboard shortcut is to zoom in and out so quickly on your image? I have been trying to figure out how to zoom into my images in LR and noticed you figured it out. Thanks again for the wb video. Cheers!
+anand singh I am not entirely sure what you mean.... I am thinking that you are in the library module to see these arrows where you can quick edits to the basics like exposure and white balance. To get to more detailed editing you need to select the Develop tab at the top right of the lightroom window. Here you will be able to make all the adjustments shown in my lightroom 6 tutorials. I am guessing you are a lightroom 6 beginner so I would suggest viewing this quick start guid and then watching all of my videos in my lightroom training course. Is it possible to use a brush tool and brush over an area to change the white balance on just that area? Thanks...

This is usually when you are working in a different color space. The eye dropper still works the same though.
