Thanks so much for clearing up the "brush" tool for me. I'll need to watch it over a number of times to let it all soak in. Fantastic tool.
+Bret Biller So happy this helped you. The lightroom brush tool is super powerful and is often overlooked. Watching this video in full a few times will help but what will help more will be using the tool a lot and challenging yourself to use it to its limits. this not how you would neciseritly use it for your lightroom editing but understanding the brush tool will definitely allow you to approach editing differently. happy photo editing.
You are genuinely the best tutorialist I have found so far for Lightroom!!! You always make it funny, explain it so clearly in detail and ensure that it is easy to understand. Most importantly, you actually show us what the differences are!! Thanks so much and Hello! from Hilton, South Africa. Keep the videos going!!! :)
+Daniel Gibson Wow your kind words on my lightroom tutorial style really mean a lot. your comments and one like them are why I keep going and why i try to make the best photography tutorials I can. i will continue to do my best,m that i promise. i just hope i deliver. +Photos In Color thanks for the reply 😀 not one complaint about any of your videos!!!!! I actually wanted to ask if there is any chance you could do a tutorial on the various buttons and functions on Photoshop 😊 I have searched UA-cam and can't find any videos nearly as descriptive as yours and there are rarely any which explain the buttons they simply show you how to make an effect. keep up the awesome work!! 👍👌
+Daniel Gibson i am getting a lot of requests regarding Photoshop so will start a training course of that soon. so keep your eyes pealed.
+Photos In Color awesome!!! I cannot wait for these!!!

I love your tutorials and am learning a lot. Is there any way of sorting them into an order - or giving them a number so that I can tick them off on a list as having viewed them already as I'm trying to watch two or three a day? (Any more than that and my brain can't process all of the info!)

Thank you Ed for your videos! Quality content! But in terms of this video I kinda wanted for you to also touch color option in brush tool and maybe you could also explain density slider, auto mask and the need of having A and B brushes. Thanks!
Good day! The lessons You sent us on video just super! I'd like You showed us how to remove moire patterns from photos? And how to edit and good quality photo with bad lights. I got a photo with multiple marami. I would be grateful.

+Dance Lovely It was an absolute pleasure having you on the channel. There is so much fun to be had and i think you may be appearing an a number of my photography tutorials in the future. thanks again and keep going with your amazing channel.
As a beginner to Lightroom could you help with the following situation ? If one has a number of similar photos - say a beach shoot, is there any way to clone all the settings made on one photo and use on the other 10 without having to go through each and every photo ? Perhaps you have a tuitorial on this ?
This is a great question and something that Lightroom is build for. In fact its probably the main function of Lightroom so I'm happy you have come across this challenge and wont to learn. SO there are two ways to do this, either batch edit and sync or presets. Watch the two videos below and it will all make sense.
Batch edit - ua-cam.com/video/FvRWKTjHjuE/v-deo.html
Presets - ua-cam.com/video/WgjIXEn9Gu8/v-deo.html
Hello Ed !!! Thanks your videos are very useful ! Did you made a tutorial for the blur effect ?
Happy you enjoyed learning about the lightroom brush tool. I am not sure what you mean by blur effect. I am assuming you want to replicate a shallow depth of field. If so just use the lightroom brush tool or radial/grient tools and pull the sharpness slider to 0. you can duplicate this to enhance the effect.
Great out takes!!😂
hahaha, they are pretty silly huh. Happy you enjoyed my lightroom brush tool tutorial :)
All of your tutorials are really fabulous and I'm not even a beginner!! BTW Happy Birthday!
just some constructive criticism here I like your instructional videos you actually understand the need to explain what the tool does AND how it works. You move very quickly and I realize it's a balance between not loosing the viewers interest and giving maximum amount of information in one video, however it is very hard to keep up.
Omg !!! Rosie !!!!!!!!!!!
+The Adventures of Superman I know right... Did you see the bloopers at the end too. Soon silly. But i hope you still enjoyed my lightroom trials for beginners video. :)
awesome
Just rewatch the video for the "O" shortcut... :) Thanks!!
Can you explain to me how I make the brush bigger and smaller? I didn't catch that.
HI. Its very usefull for me. Thanks for your tutorials and i have a small doubt in brush tool, when i click brush tool and i started to brush on my image thn when i slightly increased some exposure , contrast it should apply for only selected place right but for me for whole image its applying , what should i do now , hope u will solve my problem....
I subscribed.
hey ed, can you apply an adjustment brush on an area, and then inverse? and make mask the area opposite of your selection?
Great! Just 2 question; 1) What does the 'Density' in the brush tool do. It it something similar than the Flow? 2) I'm using an old Wacom tablet, works great! But is there a way to adjust the size of the brush by pushing a key and leave my pen on the tablet?
Thanks!
+Rob van den Wijngaart Density is similar to flow however works slightly differently. Flow allows you to build up the effect. so 50 would essentially add 50% of the amount. density works with the pressure and controls how much of an effect is added in each 'paint stroke' so you could have flow at 50 meaning if you push really hard it will be a maximum of 50 but if you press more lightly then it will take more strokes to get to the 50%. that is the basics. But essentially flow is how much of the effect is added and density is related to how much of the flow is added in each stroke. I believe this must be used with a tablet though. i hope this helped.
thats cool man ,,, but i just want to do one simple thing . i want to paint the background completely white . how to just select the color white ?????
You seem to have a different version of Lightroom than I do. I have Lightroom 6 and there is no dehaze lever. The brush button also looks very different.
For me the constant back & forth movement around the image was a bit confusing and difficult to follow. When you did the before & after I had no idea what you were clicking on to show that. So, do I click on the brush tool and then click on the effect I want to use and it will work?
hi thanks for your tutorials. really helpful. just a question, when i use radial i can invert, but in brushes i cannot. radial does not allow you to select a specific area and work outside that area, it only gives you a "radial" area, do you think lightroom will ever introduce an invert option to the brushes
:) Love that intro!
So, what's that pad that he uses with a stylus to control the LR pointer?
Thanks for your tutorials, I have one problem : my adjustment brush when press o was orange now it's white. How do I change it back ? thanks
How did you toggle it back and forth after you painted her eyes? you kept turning it on and off
Hey, you can use the "alt" button to automatically switch to erase.
what about showing how to blur sections of a photo?
Thumbs Up...BUT!
PLEASE explain the little color icon! For the life of me I cannot find what the little color rectangle does (seems to default to [X] icon). I have played with it and see it opens a color chart from which you can select but there is very little control; unlike Photoshop, I can't seem to press Alt (on a Mac) and select a color already in the current image. I can find nothing about this pesky thing anywhere. Thanks for you great channel!
hi, what's the keyboard shortcut for the before/after view? thanks
Y on windows
This button /
You don't have to go to all the trouble of creating an erase brush to undo areas you didn't mean to brush over - just press the 'Alt' while using the existing brush. The cursor will show a '-' and the brush will erase instead of applying the effect. Much quicker and easier for little accidents...
Hi, was thinking of getting a graphic tablet, I see you use one, what do you recommend to go for?
+CJB JCB I have a Wacom and would 100% recommend one. It changed my editing style for ever. it is amazing. it is awesome for things like the lightroom brush tool too.
how do you change the size of your circles without using the side bar?
how do I get it to show all of the sliders in the brush adjustment menu? Mine has a drop down menu for one effect at a time?
I have a quick question! I'm trying to use my brush but it keeps painting "red" when I try to do anything with it??? Any clue what I'm doing wrong?! Thank you! Cindi
In the adjustment brush, how do I turn off or change the color at the bottom of the brush sliders? I selected a color and now I can't turn it off.
Another nice tutorial. BUT - for some reason, I cannot use this function with the brush tool. If I activate the brush tool, and then adjust the basic sliders, the change applies globally, all the time. (The graduated filter tool, on the other hand, works perfectly.) I'm not sure if I've got some preference settings set incorrectly...or is there an intermediate step I'm missing??
you need to make sure you are moving the sliders inside the lightroom brush tool. It sounds like you have activated the brush tool the scrolled down to move the sliders in the basic panel. This will do all edits globally. alternatively make sure you have not accidentally had your brush size set so big its the size of the entire image. this will therefore edit the edit re thing. If these dont work it sounds like a lightroom glitch. Try restarting and if this doesn't work you may have to re-install Lightroom CC.
Thanks for the response. I ended up chatting with Adobe tech support; we had to delete the preferences file which must have been corrupted. The brush tool works like a charm now!
Super happy you got it sorted.
When you say " delete it ", did you press ctrl+z?
How do you get the dots while doing the brush?
I have a problem with the brush, every time I make an edit on an image for instance a colour change to a part of a sky and then I try to make a new adjustment the last edit disappears or if I click the graduated filter tool the edit also disappears do you know what the problem is as its driving me nuts
I'm trying to follow along with your tutorial, but when I use my brush, the effects change the whole image and not just one section. I try to paint on the background and change exposure to just that and it changes everything. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions?
Dude, don't be so serious!!! :) :) hehe very funny...but for real, I know quite a bit about the brush too, but everytime I watch one of your videos I learn something...I did not know you could duplicate it...sweet...
+Heidi Besen Hehehehe. i don't do serious so well .. hehehe. but I do have fun easily. So happy you are still learning event the lightroom brush tool has some little tips and trick right.
Nice video. You never explained about when to click the DONE button. :)
Hehehehehe. oops. Glad you enjoyed learning about the lightroom brush tool. Happy editing...... this response is 'done'. heheheh
