@@teckreactions Yeah, I was there. First of all, you are absolutly right about the drums. Second, even Floor was with the band for about 9 month at this point, this was the first time she played with Nightwish to a middle european crowd. Before this they played USA, South America then a break and after that a few shows in Britain. If it would not have been for my girlfriend at the time, I would have missed this show laying drunk in the tent. I listened to Nightwish early in their career but quit when Tarja left, because for me Annette did had the voice for this shit. I am so glad that I was a witness to this feckin amazing evening. Floor took our hearts within seconds, and I was in awe for most of the time. I remember my jaw hurting from standing whide open most of the time.
@@teckreactions There's one that's over two hours long, it's a collection of short videos on the making of the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful. (there are spoilers in it) This is the transition between Jukka and Kai and there's a segment where Kai talks about a short passage in one song that it took him two or two and a half hours to write down. Listening to that part over and over again. If you want me to I can find you the time mark for that part so you can avoid spoilers.

As far as the crowd is concerned, when they bought their tickets probably 12 months earlier, they had no idea they would be seeing Floor, who only joined 9 or 10 months earlier. On her own UA-cam channel Floor has said she was nervous about this show. It didn't look like it!

When you listen to the final track, The Greatest Show on Earth, you're absolutely blown away.
After watching Nightwish reactions for *YEARS*, I finally find someone who also listens to the other aspects of their music but Floors voice.
She is good, alright.
But it is *SO* satisfying when it is recognized that Nightwish actually consists of instrument players too. I'm loving it when you count the time signatures (lots of pleasant surprises there!) and/or praise the sound of Jukka's toms. Keep watching - and listening to him. Visually, he is a beast! I truly look forward your comments and insights!
And that the music itself is really interesting! It is NOT BORING! So much pop music is just boring, repetition, same old same old.... This is one thing that makes Nightwish a gem amongst hematites.
If you spent years, I guess you went for general reactors, not specific ones, like "composers, drummers, guitarrist" react to NW.
I'm in my mid-seventies and I am proud to say that I got my Nightwish tattoo, very like the one in the video last year. Nightwish got me through the shutdown. They will always be home. As for openers, wait until you hear "Shudder Before the Beautiful." Two of the best openers in music.

Wow that’s impressive. I’m 69 and agree that Nightwish got me through the crappy times. I have Parkinson’s and it manifests itself by reducing production of dopamine in the brain. This causes rigidity usually more on one side than the other. There are many other issues where bodily functions normally controlled by the autonomic nervous system stop working reliably. You feel like shit every day, because the meds don’t always work. That often causes you to cancel plans you may have made.
Nightwish literally caused me to make dopamine. Listening to them every day gave me hope that I could thrive with this condition

Yep, I can say that's true. Saw them here in Norway in 2019. I was so overwhelmed, im glad I filmed some of it! I was just so happy that I forgot to enjoy most of it xD
Only during The Poet and the Pendulum. That one would be hard to handle.
It is like that. But in a good way. Wholeheartedly recomend to everyone.
Despite the story that many try to sell, for whatever reason, Floor was a well-known singer long before she joined Nightwish. Her first band, After Forever, shared a lot of the same fans with Nightwish and even toured Europe opening for Nightwish. Her second band, reVamp, was also very active in the European festival circuit. Combined with her appearances on Arjen Lucassen's projects, people knew who she was. In fact, when Tarja, Nightwish's first vocalist, left the band, Floor was a fan favorite to be her replacement. So, yeah...this was perhaps the first time many had seen/heard Floor with Nightwish, they were still well aware of her from her previous work. Note the huge roar of applause she got when she walked out on stage...before she'd even sung a note...because fans knew her and knew how perfect she was for Nightwish.

I've always loved how Floor strutted out (I'm sure she was very nervous) and was like hello Wacken, we are Nightwish, and we are here to rock your socks off! (and considering that less that 2 years earlier she was seriously thinking about quitting music. What a moment that had to have been for her to walk out on that state. And for the other members of Nightwish, I'm sure the crowds reaction a few songs later when Marko introduced her, must have been so rewarding to them too.)
When they start "She's my sin" for me that's the moment I always feel that the crowd is really getting into the vibe. So great to see (and hear haha)
I love how Emppu and Marko passed each other right on the line of where she was walking out, right before she did.

Imagine someone who didn't know Floor at that time, goes to the show and it starts like this.
I always think about that.
Certainly several of my friends at the time Floor joined Nightwish knew exactly who she were already and were quite excited, so my guess is that a lot of the folks in the audience here are the same; curious, but still confident it's going to turn out fine.

Tuomas knows exactly which of our buttons to push, and how to do it and he's an expert at it.
I use Nightwish quotes for tattoos. "you have such oceans within" for example on my forearm. "put a stake through my heart" on the chest and "I have lost the path before me - the one behind will lead me" on my foot and some others. 😊

Nice reaction, and I like your idea of drawing randomly instead of following a list. Sure, this is a fantastic opener, but nothing beats thear opener from Wembley in 2015, "Shudder before the beautiful". That is just a fantastic starter, both visually and audibly. Well, the drummer is now Kai, before until around 2014, it was still Juka, the original drummer. Kai may be technically better, but I found his drumming more entertaining. I feel also the sound of the base kick sounded a little "richer"

Headlining the festival and playing after Alice Cooper, it's better to start with a great show opener.

In my mind I picture Alice cooper standing in awe at the talent on stage after him, wanting to stay a little longer to see what happens next lol. You have to remember, Nightwish was the highlighter and didn't play until 10:45, 11:45 something like that. So all these people were probably tired and sore before they even started. Now that's a dedicated fan base!
Knowing Nighwish fans, the first twenty rows or so had most likely been there half a day to get the spot 😀.

Here's a little history about Floor a lot of people might not know. The bracelets you see on her right wrist are her mother's and grandmother's bracelets. I have never seen her perform anything without her wearing them. She talked about them years ago in a video. She doesn't perform without them. You can watch old videos of her other other bands After Forever and Disdain, all her Nightwish concert videos, all her solo stuff, Dutch Beste Zangers 2019, German Sing Meinen Song 2022, her cover songs, her solo concerts, etc. and she always has them on. I think she sleeps with them on also. HE HE. But, there is one performance she did not wear them.......Floor Jansen - Euphoria | Beste Zangers Songfestival. I was shocked. There might be more, but I have not seen it.

This is a masterclass in opening a show. And this is the first time many of those folks ever saw or heard Floor Jansen....the way she grabbed the crowd is amazing. She hit that stage like a Valkyrie.

In all my years, I still have trouble calling anything a "concert" that doesn't have a symphony orchestra present. I know, it's just me.
i have 2 Nightwish tattoos, 1 depicting the sanskrit letters from their human nature album, and one just an N in their font over my heart.
Definitely the best show opener, and one of my favorite songs. They do have other great show openers too, but this has been the best since 2004. And the show closer in this concert is perfect too. Pretty much the perfect concert (just few songs more, and it would have been even better).

Nightwish , Ladies and Gentlemen !!! They have opened the Valhalla gates , and now the Valkyrie Goddess walks among us 🤘🤩🤘!!!
This is one of three great Live openings from them ("Dark Chest Of Wonders", "Shudder Before The Beautiful" and now "Music" intro followed by "Noise" ).
At this point Floor had been with Nightwish for 10 months. Most fans had not seen her yet with Nihgtwish. And Wacken was the biggest concert for Nightwish, they were the headliner, the last performer right after Alice Cooper.
Needless to say, she won that crowd over immediately, capturing their souls from the getgo and not letting go for 15 songs. The whole show is fantastic.
NB:
Bare in mind, have at least one full concert in your belt before you react to these IMPORTANT songs (The poet and the pendulum AND The Greatest show on earth! Especially the first one).

That is so funny because I have finish my Nightwish tattoo yesterday.
I wanted to represent all three era of Nightwish.
The "Angel Statue" (album Once with Tarja), the "Pendulum from The Poet And The Pendulum", swignig over is head (album Dark Passion Play with Anette) & also with the "Sumerian Scriptures" (album Human. :II: Nature with Floor) on the side of it.
Wacken sold out a year in advance that year. At the time the NW lead singer was Anette Olzon. She didn't capture the magic or imagination of most fans but we were loyal. When it was announced in 2012 that she had been fired, I was apprehensive as to where the new singer would take us. Floor was hired to finish the tour. I had seen her in another band and she was great - but you never know how a singer and a band will mesh until you see them together. Seeing how they came out of the gate was both mesmerizing and exhilarating. We knew we had to keep her by the end of the concert. Floor was everything we wanted and so much more. Apparently she meshed with the band behind the scenes as well. They called her "professional" and she referred to them as her brothers of the band. Floor made the effort that they appreciated. Although a Finnish band, they sometimes speak English to the non-Finns because learning Finnish is extremely difficult. Floor made the effort and with their guidance learned how to communicate with them. It impressed them. Floor's work ethic also matched the band's which also impressed them.
One of my fave songs to sing ever
There is a midi computer that controls the pyro and the backing orchestra and choir tracks. The band uses a click track in their earpieces to keep in precise time with the events.
My fav moment is at 3:58 when Marko and Emppu are making a scissor movement to let the new queen in❤

Like others have pointed out to you, this was europes introduction to Floor as the lead singer of Nightwish. Now, if you go back and watch Ghost Love Score again at the end when she hits the high belt the camera shows the crowd.
Watch that again and pause it. You can see the entire crowd is _stunned_.
And now you know why. There essentially wasn't the internet as we know it back then. People didn't know. People hadn't heard her before.

I love your analysis, your breakdown of rhythms, time signatures, instrumentation, vocals. "Dark Chest of Wonders" is the most amazing opening to the best concert ever (I only wish I'd been there; they captured lightning in a bottle). The lyrics are perfect; "Fly to a dream, Far across the sea, all the burdens gone, Open the chest once more..." That's This Concert! over 82,000 people (many actually flew across the sea), left all their burdens behind, and Nightwish opened this Dark Chest of Wonders for them!
Floor's vocals and presence are mind-bendingly amazing; life changing. I know several opera singers; top-tier classically trained vocalists who studied since they were kids and sing with opera companies like LA Opera and The Metropolitan Opera. They love Floor yet are angry at how they were trained (and at the opera world). They were told to never do what Floor has successfully done for over 20 years because singing in any style besides classical would ruin their voices. Floor is a true dramatic soprano with a powerful, rich, emotive voice that can sing over, or cut through, a full classical orchestra, yet she also brilliantly sings in almost every other style; everyone can hear that after 2 decades her voice is still pristine. These classical singers have reached the height of their profession yet they're paid next to nothing. They wish they'd been trained like Floor, want to study with Floor, listen to Floor, and because of Floor and Nightwish 2 started a Symphonic Metal Band.
Finally, Emppu has those extra picks because he'll toss the one he's using to some lucky person in the audience; he then grabs a new one. All these musicians are masters and they're so integrated and perfect it's unbelievable. Floor's talent is prodigious, and the same goes for Marko, Jukka, Troy, and then there's Tuomas, the amazing composer and keyboardist, but go to guitar forums and you'll see how many guitarists are trying to copy Emppu; they listen to his remarkable tone and playing on songs like "Yours is an Empty Hope" and still can't figure it out. That's Nightwish.

I saw this show, same set list and tour, in Melbourne, Australia. I can't remember if it was before or after the Wacken show but I do know it was Marko's birthday. We were so uncertain going in because we had never heard Floor sing. Hell, I don't think I had seen more than just a photo of her. We were spoiled by having a great local band start the night then an incredible set from Sabaton which blew our minds. Then Nightwish came out and completely melted our faces with this opener. Imagine this stunning 6+ foot goddess striding out onto the stage and belting out this and windmilling her way into all of our hearts in one song. This was in a venue with no more than a thousand people and the whole band were putting just as much energy out as they did for the Wacken show. Man, that voice and her presence at such close proximity will curl your eyebrows and destroy your trousers. Every single person left that show in love.

This was a great opener at Waken! The greatest ending I my opionon was " The Greatest show on Earth Live at Tempere " I would be so pumped leaving that show!!!!
Full tech show absolutely. Nightwish manages almost all aspects of their tour and shows (big and small) with a dedicated support crew, aka "Crewish" .
The video and sound production for this and other concerts and documentaries are their own as well, and you will see the Director's name pop up all through most of it.
Since Tuomas (keyboard player) writes 85%+ of all Nightwish songs... composes and works with groups like the London Philharmonic to record the backing tracks. You start to understand why we refer to him as "the Metal Mozart".

Hi Matt Teck. Thanks very much for the great reaction. Have you considered inviting your Daughter onto a Nightwish reaction video to see what she makes of them? There are a few other reaction channels that are either Dad and Daughter, or one of my personal favourites (3 Generations React). Just an Idea. My 19 year old daughter has also become a fan through hearing me listen to Nightwish and Nightwish reactions. We went to our first Nightwish concert together at the back end of 2022 at London, Wembley Arena. Even this morning as I was listening to this very reaction, she came to me and said she'd just found a video with Floor doing lots of different endings to Ghost Love Score, and I dipped off to watch that before finishing this reaction. Keep enjoying the reactions. I actually like the idea of picking them out of the hat live :) Kind regards from the UK.

Hi Ziva! Nightwish rocks! Maybe join a reaction?..... Jukka and Tuomas share some of the SPFX triggers but they also have a full team overseeing it all. This song was track 1 on the album "Once"! It's from Skalmold, an Icelandic metal band who played with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and this is f*cking awesome. If you want to see a crowd of metalhead suspended to the oboist's notes, you definitely should listen to this song.

It’s hard to believe, but at this point Floor was still a fill in vocalist. But she really wanted to be the permanent vocalist in Nightwish. I think the band already knew at this point that she was the one. But she really put the pedal to the metal in this performance. And she has been blowing peoples minds ever since. I would have loved to have been at this concert.
The entire 'Once' album is sublime, a top three album of all time for me (it features GLS, DCoW and Romanticide), make sure you check out the entire thing. Original singer Tarja's voice will blow you away too. Also, in a similar, broader ballpark, you need to discover a bloke by the name of Devin Townsend. Check him out, react to him, thank me later....
