When you watch The poet and the pendalum, remember to read about it before so you understand it, and the emotions behind it.
I have about a dozen emails in my inbox from subscribers with the WHOLE story :-)
@@teckreactions LOL
@@teckreactionsRead the 2 written open letters. The band & Tarja’s reply. It lays out the tension well.
Bye-Bye Beautiful, Master Passion Greed & Poet & the Pendulum are all related.
The letters aren’t that long, you can prob read both & react to Bye-Bye in 1 video. Then Master Passion & PATP separately.
Why to listen those songs in that particular order? Poet and the Pendulum comes before those other ones in the album, it is the first song of the album. It is the end of the old era and the beginning of the new era. To me it makes sense to listen it before the other songs of that album. That other songs of the album are written by that Tuomas who has already lived through the events of Poet and the Pendulum.
@@Anttik_ I’m new to Nightwish. I don’t know that information when I choose these songs. Due to the overwhelming recommendations, I had to find a better method. So random it’ll be for now.
Tuomas wrote this song as his future eulogy, and when playing the solo Emppu looks like he's playing it in Tuomas' funeral.
He's usually so cheery, but here he's somber, almost like about to burst into tears.
Feeling the music and the meaning behind it.
It might help to know, Tuomas has several pseudonyms for himself in various Nightwish songs which he writes from experiences or imagination, he says he is a man with a boy's heart and here the boy narrator is Tuomas speaking directly to you.
Boy or references thereto come up in various places in Nightwish material. He will also use poet, dreamer, writer/song writer or ocean soul - Tuomas has an affinity for the ocean, he wanted to be a marine biologist.
This song is his self-written obituary/epitaph, he is the dead boy and appears in the back drop imploring the swans which in Finnish traditions carry you off to the afterlife.
He said this of the song, as you have correctly said : "This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologise everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” - statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul".
Incidentally, he included a couple of appropriate near verbatim quotes from Shakespeare's sonnet 71 and 72. "Nay, if you read this line, remember not the hand that writ it" and "And live no more to shame nor me nor you."
The only time you will see a very serious Emppu, go figure.
(Edit: You will see Marko playing this Warwick/Framus double neck in other places, it is an Infinity/Panthera combination. The acoustic sound is from a piezo pick-up in the bridge and he uses a Kemper modelling amp with obviously bespoke settings.)
Very interesting
Getting goosebumps and teary-eyed happens a lot when listening to Nightwish. 😃
Agreed
My favorite Nightwish song, sooo beautiful and touching and ALWAYS chills❣️❣️❣️
Her stage presence is overwhelming here ❤️
Agreed
Now that you’ve met Kai. You need to venture into Wintersun. My recommendation would be “Time” or “Sons of Winter and Stars” from the Sonic Pump Studios rehearsal
Oh yes! Definitely
I concur.
Let's wait for the rerecording in August 🎉
Yes! And after these two do this: Kai Hahto performing Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars (Drum Playthrough) m.ua-cam.com/video/tbb8m3wNXbs/v-deo.html You get to actually see him play it through with some nice extra stuff included. Blows my mind everytime and I’m a drummer too.
That double neck bass/ guitar is called the beast by the techs. It weighs 45 lbs. Emppu doesn’t over play, even during solos. He is the guitar master. He does just what the song needs.🎸🤘
Yes, well said! Shout out for the real cooperator and guitar master - Emppu !
First part of the holy trinity. Dead Boy's Poem, The Poet and the Pendulum, The Greatest Show on Earth.
I’d add Beauty of the Beast.
Tuomas is really a lovely man, and knowing that the song is about him makes it even more special
The Decades Tour 2018 was all about the "very" old songs. I seen this concert in Antwerp Belgium, because i wanted to see if Floor could sing those songs, which Anette couldn't, because she hadn't the range to go so high with her voice. It was different than Tarja, but she nailed it for putting her spin on the songs. I had the time of my live that special night and she was wearing the same badass outfit as in BA. So lucky me😃twice
I've heard this son dozens of times. I still get the goosebumps all the way up my arms and up to my scalp when it breaks down near the end. Amazing performance.
I agree on it is more simple than most Nightwish songs - but the precision the guys put in here to enhance Floor's strathospheric storytelling - are phenomenal. And Floor working her way up through the octaves, using the straight tones and then adding vibrato at the end - that's not easy.
It is close to being a piecec of art, the way it is performed here, by these 6 musicians.
And a great reaction from you
Totally agree👍,for me,Floor next to a phenomenal singer is also a impressive performer, she graps you by conveying the meaning of the songs and with such a cohesive group of musicians,it can only be epic.🤘
As well as seeing Kai for the first time, I think this was your introduction to Troy who was playing the bouzouki. Troy is English, from near my part of the world, and can just about play anything including traditional instruments. If you don't know uilleann pipes you will soon! I think you will be reminded of your rock opera comment when you get to Poet and the Pendulum and Greatest Show on Earth.
Looking forward to it!
Emmpu can shred but is often restrained; it's about the music. And Kai plays both traditional and matched-grip. in 2002 Kai spent a summer in New York City studying, with Joe Morello, Freddie Gruber, several other greats. Devoted to his craft. He was a popular drum teacher in Finland and one of his students was Jukka, the former drummer. So, when Jukka left to do behind-the-scenes stuff with NW, it made sense for him to recommend his former teacher! I've heard NW in concert 3 times here in Maryland; Floor is one of the best singers I've ever heard, and I'm a 75-year-old musician.
I love it. Thanks for sharing!
RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. I ALSO AM A 76 YEAR OLD MUSICIAN. I HAVENT PLAYED WITH A GROUP IN ABOUT 20 HOURS, SINCE CHOIR PRACTICE AT MY CHURCH AND I HAVE BEEN SMITTEN WITH FLOORS VOICE. STARTED PLAYING DRUMS AT 4 WHEN MY DAD TAPED TWO QUAKER OAT BOXES TOGEATHER AND GAVE ME TWO SPOONS. BEEN PLAYING EVERYTHING SINCE. I ONLY PLAY BASS NOW, CAN NOT FEEL STRINGS ON GUITAR AND TO FEEBLE FOR DRUMS. OH WELL I STILL ENJOY NIGHTWISH.
With Freddy Gruber, you have the connection to the late Neil Peart of RUSH, who also studied under Freddy.
yes indeed.
Tuo-mas, Kai using his drums.
Emppu looking very serious, I think he feels this one more than usual.
Marko and Troy jamming!
Floor goes deep, then soars away :)
I did not expect you to get to the "heart of Nightwish" so soon, but very well done sir!!
Thanks!
There are no ego's in Nightwish, everybody gives the music/song what it needs. Especially Empuu, people reacting to a song, some said, he play's so simple!! It made me angry because, me having no experience with music instruments, i understood why he played the way he did. This band is a group of amazing musicians with an amazing singer, a group of friends, loving what they are doing. Thanks for your reaction. See you at the next one, greetings from the Netherlands, bye!
Yup, true as far as song compositions go. OTOH: NW = Tuomas' ego. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
I so appreciate you inserting your observations and commentary so often into this magnificent composition. After all, you are the show. Never forget that.
Thanks!
Marko's double neck is something of a unicorn. It's a Warwick Infinity bass and Framus Panthera guitar custom made for him. He has named it "The Beast". Also, Kai, the drummer here, plays both matched grip and traditional grip. He is also a jazz player.
Nice!
and coincidently Kai is also nicknamed "The Beast". :D -> go to Wintersun's "sons of winter and stars (live at sonic pump studio)" or Rotten Sound's "Obey".
The Infinity/Panthera range is in the Warwick catalogue which you can see on-line, they are effectively specially made for everyone being a special order custom shop build only !! Very deep pockets are essential, last I heard $14K US and upwards.
4:56 The main "secret" of this clean acoustic sound is the piezo pickup built into the bridge of the guitar part of this instrument. A similar system is installed on John Petrucci's Music Man signature guitars (Dream Theater) and I know that these bridges can be bought separately from guitars from different manufacturers such as Fishman or Graph Tech.
Good info...thanks!
When it comes to keeping it simple and serving the song Emppu is a master.
I remember some Nighwish song where there is a section where the only thing Emppu does is a very short and precise slide to bridge between two sections. The sections in itself don't have any guitar in them. And it really works, when the only sharp electric guitar sound is the only for a brief, carefully orchestrated moment every now and then.
Tuomas is a master composer and Emppu is very, very good in implementing his exact vision.
Yes, it is a very personal song for Tuomas (pronounced Too- oh- mas), it's about him, and how he wants to be remember. The rest of the Wishmaster album is more power metal. It was recorded with Tarja (rolling 'R' and soft 'J' ,Tarrr-ya). Sam Hardwick is credited for the spoken part.
Most of the time you will see Emppu smiling and having fun, this is one of the few times that is not the case.
Marko's double neck, called "The Beast", is a custom Warwick Infinity bass and Framus Panthera guitar, very heavy and very expensive.
Meet the 6th member, multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley (from the UK) , he is playing an Irish Bouzouki, a relative of the Mandola, 4 course 8 strings in 4 pairs. he started playing with NW in 2007, made permanent in 2013 along with Floor.
Correct , Kai Hahto on drums, he came from the band Wintersun. Jukka called him to take over in 2014, during the recording for the EFMB album, when he decided to step aside from performing due to health issues caused by severe insomnia.
To get a better look at Troy, check out "I Want My Tears Back" from this same 2018 show. He'll being playing another instrument ( I won't spoil the surprise of which instrument), you'll want to see that. lol.
I didn't even notice another instrumentalist. I'll have to rewatch.
@@teckreactions Troy is on the right side of the screen (stage left) , behind Emppu.
TOO-ah-mas
This song is so beautiful in its simplicity. It hits the heartstrings harder, I think, than if it had multiple flourishes. You can feel that Tuomas's being is poured into it. Kai is a wonder, and isn't called "The Human Metronome" for nothing. He and Jukka have very different playing styles, but both are such talented drummers. And, this isn't the last time you will see Marko's "Beast." It's certainly a magnificent instrument, and played to perfection. I really enjoyed your reaction to this song, that means so much to the Nightwish Army, as well as to Tuomas himself. I think you hit it right on the head.
It was pretty moving.
I agree . Also from wny.77 years old and love this stuff.
Hi TECKreacts
Thank you for showing so much love for this unique band. Tuomas' songs always have a meaning, so it was very wise that you looked up for some information. You did a fantastic job! 👏 Looking forward to your next NW-reaction. 🥳🙋♀️ Greetings from Switzerland
Thank you too!
This song is beautiful & heartfelt. The Islander with Marco is another example of clean guitar and he sings the lead too.
Nightwish can hit every emotion you have.. spot on. thanx again for this beautiful reaction to a epic song..greets from the NW Army in the Netherlands.
🇬🇧 Norfolk strapped in for your continued journey 😊
This was the deepest, most personal song for Tuomas, like a self-written eulogy, before The Poet and The Pendulum. Tuomas in this song tells how Nightwish created him when he began Nightwish, as you read. Something Tarja forgot or was distracted away from by Marcelo? That's Marko playing Beast! Yes, bass above. Swans in Finnish mythology (behind them on the screen) can fly to the afterworld/afterlife - why the boy is reaching for them "Take me with you!" I recently learned that it was Kai who taught Jukka the Jazz-licks for another Nightwish song! He was a lot more than "just" a drum-tech! Sam Hardwick was the boy's voice - there's more but I'm sure others will tell you.
It was an excellent and thoughtful reaction, I applaud.
Thanks!
Hello my friend and hello Ziva. I hope sommetime you gonna like Nightwish like your dad. Like my daughter did. Nice to see again and I really enjoy your reactions about my lovely band. Thank you.
I hope so too
You have very quickly become one of my fav NW reactionist. Seems that u genuinely like NW and u have much of insight.Luv watching ur reactions. Keep those goosebumps up and ready!
I appreciate that
This is such a beautiful song. You can hear (and see) Tuomas's passion within the performance. This Buenos Aries concert is at the same level as the 2013 Wacken concert. Everything is perfection.
Just a reminder... please try to get to the band, Epica. They too have this kind of passion in their music. A good example would be the song Rivers performed at AFAS with Apocalyptica. Simone Simon's singing in that song is exquisite.
Great reaction. One of my top 5 Nightwish songs. One of the more personal songs for Tuomas and the fans. An old song written by Tuomas when he was young. Inspired by the question what would you say if you knew you were going to die tomorrow. Tuomas often uses the dead boy as a symbol of the loss of childhood innocence and imagination that we experience as we grow into adulthood. When you hear dead boy or poet in his lyrics he is usually referring to himself. He also has a strong connection to the ocean and sees it as a place of peace and tranquility. A refugee from the modern world. So in this song Tuomas is saying that he no longer lives for himself or his friends but only for the music. He puts all his feelings into the music and his music is what gives his life meaning. He tries to make his life better but can never get back to the innocence of his youth. He wants to be loved but can't connect with people. He asks that they remember his music, not him, after he is gone. Thus a lonely soul, an ocean soul. Note that on the video wall behind the band the boy is holding up his arms to several swans. In Finnish mythology swans are the creatures that guide your soul to the afterlife.
A lot of unexpected stuff in this song. Beautiful! ❤
Thanks for your take. 🙏🏻🤩
Glad you liked it!
The stomache, blood pumping, the whole body.....allllll.......yeap....Nightwish
the acustic guitar bass player is Marko; Marko has left the group and the new bass player is Jukka. Another Jukka was the former drumer and Kai is the current one.
There is so much genius in this work that it is difficult to know where to begin. Everything, from the stage set to the lyrics to the music itself has a purpose. Floor's heart-rendingly beautiful performance is beyond comparison - only she could deliver the emotional truth of this work. There is so much more here to understand.
Note the swans in the background - these are the swans of Tuonela, said in Finnish mythology to be the conveyors of souls to the afterlife. Note how the boy has his arms raised in the hope and the longing of embracing that journey, yet - there he remains. It's worth a listen to Sibelius' The Swan of Tuonela to see where part of Tuomas ' inspiration came from. Here's Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker: ua-cam.com/video/HjyLWoJvtME/v-deo.html. Exquisite.
Emppu's ravishingly beautiful guitar solo is David Gilmour class in the way it conveys the sadness, the anguish of a soul who has been left behind in a lonely and forsaken world. It's a cry of anguish, reinforced by the funereal march of the music behind and complementing the solo. You'll hear that same sort of expression in David Gilmour's last solo of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. I always felt that towards the end, it became the funeral march of a lost and tormented soul. All of the anguish and regret of something glimpsed and lost is distilled and channeled into one extended searing cry. So it is with Emppu's solo, yet it is so deftly and effortlessly woven into this masterpiece of Tuomas' that you don't quite realize what it's doing to you. Note that there is none of Emppu's usual smirking or goofing around in this one. He is dead serious (excuse the pun) and it shows in his expression. So much so that he has to turn away from the audience when he is done.
And then there's Floor. This is the most emotional performance I have yet seen from her. She feels all of the passion, sorrow, despair, longing and even anger in every note of this epic piece. She becomes the song and then she sings right into your soul and utterly wrecks it. It hits so hard. If this doesn't have tears streaming down your face, then you have no understanding and no soul.
lets go for devil and the deep dark ocean live, that wil blow your socks off!!!
They know how to play a song in proper way.
Part of the GREAT NIGHTWISH QUARTET - GLS - GSOE - PATP and Dead Boys Poem.
You are going to have such fun with the poet, you will feel every emotion there is to feel. Great reaction to this beautiful song 🇬🇧
For drumming point of view from this gig: Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean or Slaying the Dreamer.😊
I strong recommend " song of my self" since you are a drummer... Lots of tempo change. And also an amazing heavy song
A BIG MASTERPIECE + FLOORGAAAAAAAASM!!!!
Tuomas pronounced "Too-maas"
Like Floor Jansen is "Yan- sen"
Great reaction new sub.
Thanks for subbing!
Floor on top of one of the very best songs IMO....thank you TUOMAS.
You nailed this reaction, and are on point with all your observations. I'm gonna enjoy this ride! 🙂
Welcome aboard!
Hello from Finland. I have waiting a hole week for this one pop up.😂
Thank you. And i whis more nightwish and more often...there is so many songs to look at.❤
Enjoy!
Nightwish have a song for any occasion and for every emotion. Every song has a complexity in the music & lyrics no matter how simple it may seem. Tuomas wants you to take your own message from the music but the more you listen & learn about Nightwish you will feel the love, heart & soul poured into each song. These talented musicians bring everything to life with their passion & talent.
Good catch with the "wish for the night"!
I always look forward to when new reactors get to this song. I have many favs, but I always come back to this one as being the favorite. such a beautiful work of art, and Floor is amazing bringing Tuomas' soul to life for the listener
That guitar sound comes from a piezo pickup under the bridge. You can't get that with magnetics. Your comment on guitar players was interesting, because it is the exact opposite of Emppu's approach. He never plays a single note more than the tune demands. The boy is from a London choir. Tuomas came here for the orchestral and choral backings.
Yes, Emppu´s tone and approach playing guitar is based on quality not on quantity. But as an persona guy is a real firecracker - so active and funny on the stage. But of course not on this one, because he knows what this song means to his childhood-friend Tuomas. So this is rare exception from his live-presence. Emppu is a real cooperator and humble & nice lad, thank you for giving (also) him thumps up here!
Hello TECKreacts. Loved this reaction as I have loved all of your Nightwish reactions. Fun having your daughter pull the random songs. This is another of my many Nightwish favorites. And it was nice to see your first reaction to Kai Hahto (the human metronome) on drums. While not as flashy as Jukka, he is an absolute beast which comes out in many of their other songs. Kai was the drummer for Wintersun and still plays with them between Nightwish gigs. When you watch the 2015 concerts (Wembley, Tampere, Masters of Rock, etc) and later concerts, you will get a feel for how talented this guy is. There are some really fun videos of him doing his thing at some of his drum clinics. This performance is gorgeous by every member of the band and Floor is magic incarnate. Thank you.
I’ll have to check those out. He’s pretty solid!
Well done! But did you recognise Troy playing the E- Bouzouki?
For more Kai listen to Weak fantasy at Tampere 2015 and Devil and the deep dark ocean live at Buenos Aires 2018
I did not catch that!
It's just gorgeous
Tuomas is pronounced Tu-oh-mas. Tarja is Tar (roll R a bit) ee-ya. Emppu is the personification of what you said about less is more. We all know he can shred but plays what the song needs. Kai Hahto is a BEAST of a drummer. He is also in Wintersun. Nightwish is his relax time...lol. Check out Kai Hahto drum warmup and you will see
KAI IS A BEAST AND HE IS ALSO DRUM INSTRUCTOR AND FRIENDS WITH JUKKA
@@mikensonny1 Yes. He was Jukka's drum tech with Nightwish and Julkka gave his blessing for Kai to take over
You will find tha nightwish is an experience, not just entertainment.
Kai plays tradicional grip too, he is very good on jazz
Enjoyed sharing your first listen to this great song! I have listened to/watched this many times.....goosebumps every time! Very well written, interpreted beautifully!!
Thanks for listening
Yep, my fav Nightwish song I think. Never able to listen to this dry-eyed. BTW, we can't see goosebumps through your webcam (though you are not alone in trying to show them!
It's the piezo pickups in the bridge that gives his guitar that sound. Unlike regular pickups that work in a magnetic field, piezo pickups respond to the vibrations of the strings.
Lovely reaction as always!
If you like simplicity...try "how's the heart" live of course!
Have fun discovering Nightwish!
I'll check it out!
One of my favourites! If you like rock opera, you could check out ayreon: the day that the world brakes down!
Will do!
@@teckreactions You'll love it. One piece of advice: start with the official music video (Arjen, i.e. the multi-instrumentalist mastermind behind Ayreon, provides tons of trivia in it). After that one, you definitely wanna check the recent live version. We were there. One word: unforgettable! Cheers from Amsterdam!
Want to say that there is a lot of technique in using 2 hi-hats that Kai has here in his drum kit. Good reaction and knowledge once again.
Greetings from Finland ❤🤘
Greetings!
I recommend you also listen to the studio version of this one. It contains an additional section with some poetry, lines of which are projected in the background in this live version. But I find it really powerful.
If you want to listen to what Kai is capable of as a drummer, you can react to his other band, "Wintersun". For exemple with "Sons of Winter and Stars" live rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios.
That band is the project of the composer, songwriter, guitar player Jari.
He's accompanied by Kai on drums, Jukka on bass (who is now also part of Nightwish since Marko left 3 years ago), and Teemu on guitar (Teemu is the out of this world guitar player who recently gained the world recognition he deserves by replacing Kiko in Megadeth last fall. A quite reserved guy, but when it comes to precise and clean guitar playing, he's amongst the best).
And after MANY years of waiting, Wintersun is finally releasing the album "Time II" next august (Time I was released in 2012)
Please
Same concert
Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean
Amazing singing duel between Marco and Floor.
Some weird way it reminds me of the Meatlove song
And the drummer goes in overdrive:)
You will love it.
Tuomas sound like Too-oh-mas. Tarja sounds like Ta-rhee-ya.
One of my favorites, loving your reactions
good sir !!!!
Glad you enjoyed
UK Army popping in for a great reaction to a great composition... Check out the poet and the pendulum
I think you should check some Kai's drum cam videos of him playing Nightwish song, I think you as a drummer yourself will love seeing Kai in action.
Good job once again Ziva for pulling out such a sublime song. So beautifully put together and executed and as always, it's a pleasure to see and watch a musician appreciate it! I and many others of the Nightwish Army could watch or listen to this video a thousand times without getting bored - it is THAT good!😊
Glad you liked it... more, more.. we (you) need more NW 🤣
More to come!
Wonderful reactions to nightwish! keep em coming mister! :)
More to come!
Tuuomaas and Taarya i think like this ) And this is a personal Tuomas thing 💙💛
"Sonnet 71", Quatrain 2 - Shakespeare: "(Nay,) if you read this line, remember not
The hand that writ it; for I love you so
That I in your sweet thoughts would be forgot
If thinking on me then should make you woe."
Thanks for reacting to this brilliant song. It's a nice live version with Floor singing, however, I much prefer the studio album with Tarja.
"Wishmaster" was my introduction to Nightwish, and it holds great sentimental value to me.
Masterclass and beyond. ❤ Thank you. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
Many thanks!
This was painful thank you for you'er reaction and complete discectomy of the beautiful song.
Painful?
my favorite song.
Kai was Jukka’s drum teacher.
🤗🍒🤘🏻 great job again !
Thank you! Cheers!
Great reaction! Thank you..
No problem 😊
You have actually seen Troy already - he was playing the guitar in Dead Boy's Poem but he was mainly in the background.
Don't worry - you haven't seen the last of him.
If you like the pipes, My Walden might be the best next stop on your journey as it's also quite folky and Troy has quite a large part in that one (I won't say any more so as not to ruin any surprises). The most beautiful uillean pipe melody (IMO) is the intro to this very concert - Swanheart leading into End of All Hope. I like many fans would love to hear Floor sing Swanheart but I sense it's being avoided for some reason. Hopefully they'll make a secret recording that can be released for posterity after any personal sensibilities have been overcome or lost relevance.
This song is so beautiful! I don't listen to it all the time, want there to be a little pause between listener. So I can enjoy the chills and feeling it brings. And I love that you said they don't overdo it. They always plays what's necessary.
Glad you enjoy it!
@@teckreactions Always :D
If you feel like watching a Nightwish video, the more recent "Noise" is a great one to pick, I think.
I hope you get to the older Nightwish songs too with the First singer Tarja. Sleeping sun sung by Tarja is something magical. It is also a NW ballad. 😊
TUOMAS IS PRONOUNCED TWO-O-MAUS. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS FROM NIGHTWISH. DEAD BOYS POEM.
🥲🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯👍
Edit. Miljon thanks to fix that AV/mic issue 🤘😁👍💙🇫🇮
I know it's way too early in your Nightwish journey but I am so looking forward to hearing your breakdown of the music and playing on "The greatest show on Earth."
Coming soon!
If you do want more of a rock/metal opera there's always Ayreon. It's more of a project with kind of a who's who of the Netherlands and surrounding. Floor has been in one of the studios and sometimes sings with her sister, Irene as some of the back up. Anyways, they just dropped the live versions of The Day That The World Breaks Down and The Sixth Extinction, in the last few weeks.which have some really uplifting lyrics despite their dire name. Both are around 12 minutes. Might be worth doing one or both before Poet and The Pendulum and Sons of Winter and Stars to get you geared up for that sort of thing. Love this song. :)
Too-omas.
Thanks for this, one of my top 4 and Tuomas' most personal so g at the time
Perhaps The Poet and the Pendulum is more personal since then.
Tar-ee-ya.
For Kaitsu drums, one of the ones to watch is Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from later in this same show.
Here's what Tuomas' has said:
"Dead Boy's Poem' featured a child's voice. "I had an idea of a song with a young boy boy reciting reciting a poem", Tuomas says. "The trouble was that no Finnish so I had to find a
12-year-old could pronounce English so that it sounded right, so I had to find a native speaker to do it. My mother's Sister, actress Miitta Sorvali, knew [the English-Finnish director and writer] Neil Hardwick well, and my mum remembered that Neil had a son called Sam. I called him and asked him to do the poem, and Sam agreed right away.
It was just funny that when I talked to this 15-year-old boy he seemed like such a citizen of the worldand was actually familiar with our band too. Sam said he'd be free to record the poem anytime; I'd just have to give him a call.
He even knew where Finnvox was and promised to meet us there. The professionalism of young Sam Hardwick made a deep impression on Tuomas.
"When he arrived at the studio, had to ask him
to wait for ten minutes or so and he just pulled a book from his pocket and sat down to read".
Tuomas says, " I gave him the poem, and he read it through a few times. We did some editing and Sam just sat down on the studio floor and read his book, after which I asked him to read the poem a couple of more times."
Sam Hardwick was the reader in this song, son of Neil Hardwick. Tuomas asked him to read those text as he is english guy.
Most recent drumcam of Kai Hahto is: ua-cam.com/video/MZbOBN6k9Bg/v-deo.htmlsi=z19eGbHQ0ojoVjHL professionally made video.
I didn't know that drumcam, on a performance of '7 Days To The Wolves', one of my favourite nightwish songs! Love it, thank jou.
Yes please, do a double with the drumcam together with the song "7 Days To The Wolves (Live at Wembley Arena)"
Great to see the beautiful Ziva again. She chose one of my favorites. Tu-ohmas. Tar-e-ya.
This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. The small child's voice represents Tuomas inner child speaking.
When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..."
Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen. He is reaching out to implore them to take him with to the other side.
In archaeological excavations done in Karelia, a child was found and its body was laying upon a wing of a swan. In Finnish mythology and folklore, the swan was the divine messenger between the living and the dead. When a swan dropped its head below the surface, people of old times believed that it was communicating to the spirit world.
Killing swans was a terrible crime because it was as bad as murdering a human. Punishments for killing swans were severe, the usual penalty was death.
Swan song often symbolizes an artist´s last performance but for a long time all across the world all the way to the 17th century it was believed that swans only sang when they died.
A beautiful song filled with sadness from an unfulfilled destiny.
Here are the spoken words from Dead Boy's Poem.
"If you read this line
Remember not the hand that wrote it
Remember only the verse
Songmaker's cry, the one without tears
For I've given this its strength
And it has become my only strength
Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality
Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew
The sweet piano writing down my life"
"Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone
Show me love, hold the lorn
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me I
'm sorry
Time will tell, this bitter farewell
I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you
And you I wish I didn't feel for you anymore"
A lonely soul
An ocean soul
Thank you for your great analyse. I just joined your channel so whether you already have reacted to any other Finnish metal bands, I do not know. So
I would love to hear your analyses of the
Finnish symphonic metal band WINTERSUN - "TIME" (Live rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios) this masterpiece will blow your mind.
"Time" not only meets expectations, it confidently and thoroughly shatters them. Powerful riffs, triumphant orchestrations, grandiose choruses, soul piercing lyrics and heart-wrenching vocals. Jari is the singer/songwriter. Kai in drums joined Nightwish 2016, Jukka in base joined Nightwish 2021 and Teemu (green guitar) joined Megadeth last year replacing Kiko Loureiro.

Hi Matt, greetings from UK
That was another great reaction, thank you
I thought that it is meaningful when you see how sombre they all were whilst performing this song, almost as if they are playing at Tuomas' wake. Especially Emppu who is normally smiling and joking
You mentioned that you would like to know what pedals etc Marko uses with that double necked guitar (aka "The Beast") 😁
'GEAR GODS RIGGED' did a great video examining Nightwish's kit and it answers a few of that type of question. It is only 15 minutes long and well worth a look 😉

Darn, made me cry again. Such a beautiful song, and a great performance! As you say, do what's appropriate for the song - the shredding in _Romanticide_ works great, the lack of shredding here does too. Good idea to postpone _TP&tP_ for a while, I think it probably has greater impact that way. Really enjoying your reactions, thanks!
Thanks for listening
I`ve watched the complete concert probably 25 times this year and watched the video for this song even more times and I get goosebumps always. I for one was never really happy when Tarja was the vocalist because her voice was too operatic for my taste. Floor is to me the best in the world because she can sing all types of music from opera to metal. I love that you research the lyric`s as they are always mean something, Tumoas is a master at songwriting.
Haha you jumped my favorite nightwish song , everdream
