My townhome was involved in a fire 5 years ago. It took 2 years and 4 months for my house to be rebuilt. I live in Los Angeles County where all building materials are available. I can’t imagine how long it would take for these homes to be rebuilt. I feel so bad for these people and can totally relate to what they are going through. Thank you for sharing this video.
...If the voters in Hawaii, especially on Maui keep getting suckered by voting in WOKE Politian's, it will take a whole generation before Lahaina recovers...That is a fact...
Thank you again for the update. We have been to Maui twice since the fire in Lahaina, and have shopped local exclusively. Keep up the great work. Hope to see many more completed homes on your next video. MAHALO and Aloha.
Aloha Mai a me mahalo nui, Jesse. I am a Mauian in Kihei and a member of Lahaina Strong. I am very grateful for all of the vids that you do and the updates. Pōmaikaʻi a me aloha
Thank you for this update, Jesse. We just returned from Maui where we had a wonderful time. We definitely miss Lahaina but there are so many other places to go. We ate at one of the restaurants on Front Street that survived the fire. It was sad that one of the other restaurants is asking people not to ask their staff about the fire as many of them are survivors and don’t want to talk about their experiences.
So happy to see the clean up progressing & I hope the rebuild goes ahead quickly - love Lahaina & it’s people ❤️

Mahalo for all your videos since the fires. They are so informative and your good spirit and intent I believe is being well received. The videos do remind us of the tremendous tragedy but the huge cleanup efforts and rebuilding show the healing has begun. Wishing all the Best to Lahaina community. We love Maui and its people and will be visiting soon. Jesse, again Mahalo for your videos!
Thanks for the update. My husband and I just visited Maui, Hawaii in September. We had an amazing time visiting there. We supported a lot of the local vendors !!😊 Praying for a full recovery for Lahaina!❤
Thank you Jesse! My heart and prayers are STILL for Lahina and all of Maui. Still love her no matter what! Vote WISE my friends! ALOT resting on this election.
Mahalo Jesse for a great video. Sad and encouraging signs of delay and progress. We will see Lahaina rise from the ashes but time, energy and love will continue to be needed. Your non critical and non political videos are refreshing and needed for those of us on the mainland. Aloha
Thanks for the update. From an outside observer, it seems as though this recovery is going to take quite some time. Perhaps a decade or more. For a complete recovery. I hope somehow they can emulate the quaint nature of the shops and restaurants. My wife and I loved taking walks, visiting the shops. And taking in a sunset in one of the oceanfront restaurants. Thanks again. See you next time.
as a lifelong Lahaina resident and knowing what we are dealing with to try to obtain our building permit, you are absolutely correct. It will take 10 years just to get the residential homes back but Front street and the cash cow of the tourism industry in West Maui may never return. Lahaina will never be the same. I will miss living so close to the beach and miss the perfect weather all year long to grow my beautiful garden. a wonderful RED state is calling us to pay cash for a big beautiful home.
Thank you so much for all your updates. We here in 'Down-Under' Australia, just don't hear anything about what's going on up there in your world so it really is appreciated that you do such a wonderful job in getting these newsworthy pieces out to the world. Thank you very much.
Thank you for sharing this. I freguent Maui and love this beautiful town. My heart still goes out to everyone in town. We try very hard to be very respectful of those who have lost so much during this fire. We love the Hawaiian people. I wish there was more we could do to help.
Jesse, thank you so much for this drone tour and update! I really appreciate your extremely organized way of presenting the drone tour and your extremely organized speech as well. It's great to see that places are starting the process of rebuilding and exciting to see the framing and beginning of construction from the air. Thank you for addressing the question of "land grab". If anyone would know the answer, it would be you since you are a realtor who knows the neighborhoods and knows where to look for the data. I am super super excited when I see that you have put up a drone video. Thank you for being our window to Lahaina and THANK YOU THANK YOU for all your hard work! 🙂
Thanks again for the updates. After my first visit, Lahaina captured my heart. I’m praying for everyone there and looking forward to returning when the time is right.
Once again, thank you, Jesse, for this update. Those of us who live far away - but who keep Lahaina close in our hearts - rely on kama'aina such as yourself for accurate information, and we greatly appreciate your efforts!! Mahalo
Thank you so much for providing these videos! It still breaks my heart to see the extent of the fire, but your videos keep a hopeful look towards the future.
Thank you Jesse. We vacationed there last December in Hana, and strongly recommend it to help with the local economy. My wife has made donations to the local humane society. We continue to pray for your recovery.
Thank you Jesse for your dedication and diligence in keeping us informed with the latest news and situations regarding the Maui fire tragedy. I continue to support the Maui Food bank on a monthly basis and I hope that a spirit of gratitude fills the community.
Thank you for doing this updated video. It's good to see the rebuilding taking place. I still wince when I see these, especially where the Pioneer Hotel was. I stayed there a year before the fire. Lahaina will always have a spot in my heart.
Wonderful to see some progress on mostly cleared ash and debris of people’s property. Very much appreciate your time and quality of the videos. I’m in my seventies and always dreamed of one day getting the chance to see Hawaii, devastated at the awful fires, but really love seeing the progress now being made. Thanking you Jessie, Aloha, keeping on watching from Gozo in the Mediterranean. Well wishes to you all.
Thank you so much for making these updates!!!! I've heard that some of the resturants on Front Street (ie Kimo;s) won't be allowed to rebuild on the water. We will definitely be back to Maui!!! One of my girlfriend's favorite places on earth!!! 🥰
My wife and I will be in town for our 55th.anniversary. 16 days in Hawaii 4 days on 4 islands. Will definitely spend time in Lahaina to support local businesses
Thanks for the update. It would be lovely if your power lines could be buried. It would be expensive, but in the long run probably the best bet. Some may tell you it's too difficult to bury because of the rocky soil. You might look towards Iceland where they've buried almost all their powerlines and geologically it is similar to Maui.
Thank you for your update. Hoping that your next update shows more homes rebuilt and completed. It will be very interesting to see which businesses return and which new ones show up.
Thanks for the updates my family and I made Lahaina (aina nalu in particular) our regular vacation spot. Last time there was March 2023. Our hawaii visits now focus on Oahu but hopefully will loop back to maui in a few years.
God Bless You All...Aloha! Prayers are with You. Our Hearts are in Hawaii. We were married and had our Honeymoon there . We had a Son exactly 9 months later! His name is Sean . You are all in Our hearts forever. You will always be Our Paradise. Aloha Peace Hope to All.
Hi Jesse, I truly appreciate the wonderful videos and great information. I do have to offer a different perspective on your thoughts towards lower Visitors on Maui! As a couple that has been to Maui for many decades, the prices for Condo’s and Hotels are becoming too expensive (we have stayed at both). We used to pay about $240 night (just 4 years ago) and now the going rate is $450 Plus. In support of the Condo Owners and Hotels, the Islands rates for utilities, Insurance and many other Island expenses to these entities have exponentially increased. Now, New regulations by the Maui Government is planning to classify over 7000 plus units (starting in summer of 2025, from a prior video of yours ) as non rentals and taken off the market for tourism. This is ALL a Maui Government decision! This decision will again raise the over rates for the existing units. The Maui government is affecting the tourism industry and not the fire. Visitors are the key for revenue for Maui and First time visitors are wonderful! Though, it’s the return visitors that drives the upward continual tourism revenue dollars. Please share your thoughts. Thank you,
Only certain voltage types are suitable for underground distribution. The issue is the heat given off by the higher currents over a certain distance. Sometimes it's just bury the jacketed copper in a conduit, sometimes the conduit has to be filled with a special oil to dissipate heat. This also means more use of ground level transformers to replace the circular pole mounted ones.
Mahalo for the updated. Hopefully, Maui County will waive / expedite the SMA Major and Historical permits required for residents below the lower highway, as this is preventing everyone from beginning their rebuild. Unfortunately shoreline is still up in the air on what’s going to be done 😢
Thank you so much for your time and effort in hour video updates. We have been to Maui numerous times and love it dearly. We were shocked and incredibly saddened by the fire in Lahaina. Your videos are so thorough and enlightening. Mahalo❤❤❤
Thank you for the update. It is still so devastating to see what happened there. I have been to Lahaina dozens of times and stayed in Kaanapali. Somehow I missed how far the fire went up the hill crossing the highway. I look forward to seeing more updates. Mahalo
If I can feel the sadness from watching this video I ,I can't even begin to imagine how the Lahaina resident feels, it's still.Incredible how a fire could be this devastating on a Island! I still think they're being a land grab that we just don't know about!
Dear Jesse I cried when I 1st heard about the fire. My High School husband & I were married September 2nd 1973. Our daughter and family sent us on our 30th Anniversary to The Ohana motel for a week. I know there's a Church by it. Everyday we rented a car & drove to Kaannakapali Beach. I know I'm spelling it wrong. We were going to return on our Ruby 40th Anniversary; September 2nd but he sadly passed away to a SHOCKING stage 4 Colon Cancer on our 39th Wedding Anniversary; 😭💔😭💔 September 2nd 2012 (1973). I went into the fetal position when I heard of the fire. It felt like he'd died all over again...& my soul wept for ALL the people of 🌴La Haina‼️🌴 Every morning we'd walk to a shaved ice place & we loved eating one night at mixed plates. My heart ❤️ still breaks 💔 over the Beautiful people of La Haina. I don't think the truth is being told but THAT'S MY OPINION! I pray 🙏🏽 for everyone of La Haina, Maui Hawaii that they ALL get treated with the respect they SO VERY MUCH DESERVE. Can you please take your drone to the Beach by the Hotels; & by the cliff everyone jumps off of & goes snorkeling at Kaannakapali Beach. 🌴 I'd SO ❤️ LOVE❤ IT‼️🌴 Thank you ever so much for your video‼️ I'm glad you see progress in action‼️ It still hurts‼️ There's a PEACEFUL feeling though as I see the video. I'll NEVER be able to afford a return. I'm SO 🙏🏽 GRATEFUL my family sent us there when they did. It's THE O-N-L-Y VACATION we'd ever been on alone on‼️ Sincerely, Kayle Girvin
So glad I got out of Maui during COVID. The inertia and red tape of the county are on prime display in these videos. If the fires had happened in a town in, say, North Dakota, it’d already be rebuilt by now. At the rate permits are being issued, Lahaina should be back to normal around 2276 or so.
Just a curiosity question. Prior to 1998, I believe Lahaina was surrounded by sugarcane fields. In 1980 I took a dinner cruise on a catamaran at dusk, and the fields were being burned to remove the foliage prior to harvesting the cane, as the canes are so filled with liquid that they cannot burn. Is it a correct assessment that the sugarcane fields actually acted as a natural firebreak compared to the non-native grasses that came in after sugarcane production ended? And a follow-up to that: is there any other fire-resistant - or perhaps less fire-prone - vegetation that could be planted on the slopes above Lahaina? My heart goes out to all who live there and the loss they suffered from the fire. We were there in February 2023. Thank you Jesse for your thoughtful and respectful updates.
First 3 min most structures have something in common on these properties. All have solar panels. I'm not sure if this was all in place before fires but might be a sign of something that has the capability of not harming or contributing to these fires. Would be interesting to find out if these have been implemented for like the banks or other corporate owned stores or businesses and government agencies that also had very little damage. Yet a simple old wood box or straw ruff is without burns next to structures that were unrecognizable. So underground power seems to be protected and now look into how solar panels also might have provided services and helped contain fires beyond these points.
Would go to Maui every summer 1972-1992. There was Sugarcane all over. Very green everywhere. Went 2 years ago and was shocked that 100% of the sugarcane is gone, they put hideous white gigantic propellers on the mountains and totally ruined them! The entire island, except the Hana side, was full of tall yellow brush, dried up dirt. At 1:18 look to the right. The island is so ugly! Very poor management! Did sugarcane pull out because too expensive? Was not surprised Lahaina burned. Very bad brush up at the Lahaina bypass!
Hi Jesse. Do you know anything about the Baby Beach single family homes from Jodo south? Those lots were not cleared, and the announcement was made that 100% of residential lots have been cleared. That indicates those homes will not be part of any rebuild. Maybe a setback, even though the large homes on the Kai Pali cul-de-sac have been cleared and are equally close to the ocean.
Many millions of dollars has been donated and given for the Maui rebuild by people around the world. I am surprised it is taking so long to get things cleared up to rebuild. Permitting? Bureaucracy? Insurance?
Wow it sure is an impressive clean up.! Is they grey base material crusher fines or gravel..??? And where did all the debris go?? Buried or crushed ??? Hopefully many can afford to rebuild though it looks doubtful !!!!
The gray is gravel that is spread over the lots after clean up. There is a temporary dump site in Olowalu, just a few miles to the south of Lahaina. Eventually it will be permanently disposed of near the Central Maui Landfill.
...Very professional talk video about the recovery...AND! You are correct in mentioning the importance of voting in, the most honest people...Or! Lahaina will take a whole generation to recover...This WOKE movement in Hawaii and Cali. was and still is a total disaster for middle and lower middle-class people now relying so much on Gov. assistance programs just too survive.

the damage from fire is devastating, but I'm more alarmed by the apparent drought conditions preventing the land from recovering.
Yes it is always dry there around Lahaina. What is odd is the other end of the island around Hana highway is considered Rain Forest
Thanks much for your 'updates'. As a follower of these...'..unusual...events'...your footage is PRICELESS!!!
Thank you so much for providing these videos! It still breaks my heart to see the extent of the fire, but your videos keep a hopeful look towards the future.
Very good drone tour of how Lahaina is looking & recovering. Mahalo Jesse

Thank you so much for your updates. I’ve had the opportunity to visit three times while on cruises.
Thanks Jesse for the update. You are the best. I agree. The power needs to be underground also feel permits need to speed up

Thankyou for the work you do!! Wonderful to see so much progress
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. As someone who lives thousands of miles away, it has been my link to progress in Lahaina.
Thanks for your support !
Great job Jesse, best wishes from Australia 😮
Thank you for your videos. It’s still shocking to see the disaster area… prayers for Lahaina!

Wow, they really need to renourish those beaches and plant more palm trees.
Great video. Appreciate the updates🌺❤️
We came last year a few days after Maui reopened. Spent our money at local businesses as well as local artists. We had a great time.

Very well produced. I'm wondering where all that cleared fire debris was transported to. Do you know?
There is a temporary dump site in Olowalu. Eventually it will be disposed of near the Central Maui Landfill.
Great vid Jesse. Do you have knowledge about how many home owners had insurance and how many were granted full payment for their loss?
I'm not sure about that. Hopefully those without insurance will be made whole by the lawsuit.

I think that's a good ideal to put the electric lines underground. So sorry it's taken forever to rebuild lahina town.
What happened to the gentleman who was a realtor? He did so many good interviews.
Look him up.

The fires weren't from power lines. The power was turned off look it up.!
Thanks....what are you hearing relative to the TVR issue?
Many millions of dollars has been donated and given for the Maui rebuild by people around the world. I am surprised it is taking so long to get things cleared up to rebuild. Permitting? Bureaucracy? Insurance?
The supermarket with the blue roof survived but everything around it vaporized? Hmmm, very interesting?
Wow it sure is an impressive clean up.! Is they grey base material crusher fines or gravel..??? And where did all the debris go?? Buried or crushed ??? Hopefully many can afford to rebuild though it looks doubtful !!!!
The gray is gravel that is spread over the lots after clean up. There is a temporary dump site in Olowalu, just a few miles to the south of Lahaina. Eventually it will be permanently disposed of near the Central Maui Landfill.
@@JesseGWald Thanks Jesse,goodluck with everything !!!
...Very professional talk video about the recovery...AND!
What's sad too is, when they start to rebuild it won't be the cool old buildings. It will be modern
