Lived there for almost a year. Beautiful classic architecture and top level cultural institutions. KCMO is definitely under-rated. From a hard-core Angeleno.
I’m a native of the Kansas side of the viaduct. It’s great to see the all the positive growth and changes in KCMO. Every time I go home, I see something new! Thank you for sharing! 😃👏🏽👏🏽
I like KC Union Station more than Chicago personally. Its has charm and character I can't find back on Canal St. Also KC is the largest city in Missouri...
The WW1 Museum is one of the best I've ever been in. It would take a full day just to look at every item in there. The entrance alone is quite sobering as it is a plexiglass walkover of the recreated Western Front crater scape of 'no man's land' full of poppies. There are 9,000 poppies, each representing 1,000 deaths for the 9 million lives lost during WW1. And that's just the entrance-well worth a visit!
Thanks Jeff for showcasing our city in such a positive light! We don't come downtown or to Crown Center/ Union Station very much. It was nice to see how much it's changed in the last few decades! Great job!😉
Not many people on the streets at 11am in the morning, but beautiful city, never been there before, but plan to visit someday, awesome video, thank you for sharing again.
The NCAA Big 12 tournament is in the T-Mobile center. Has been in KC for like ever. And there is loads to do more than sports teams. And there is a whole lot more to Kansas City than downtown and the Plaza. You did our city a great disservice. The nickname is Cowtown.
As the narrator walks, I see downtown KCMO as it was when I was growing up in the 60s thru 70s. At the corner of 12th and Main where the POWER AND LIGHT building sits was THE JONES STORE. Adjacent to it was the KRESGE’S store, where I had my first slice of pizza and my first submarine sandwich. The white steps you see when he’s pointing towards the Missouri river lead up to the CITY CENTER SQUARE building at 1100 Main St, which opened in June 1977. I went in to look around when there were just a few businesses inside. On the corner adjacent to it was MACY’S. So many fond memories…..🌹

Kansas City has really fixed itself up over the last twenty years: I might do me a trip to KCMO in the future. Their barbecue is awesome. Gates and Arthur Bryant’s were delicious.
Oh you have to go out there for the Fall Crawl Jazz festival, it's insane. There's also a barbecue festival that's wonderful. And you need to visit the Nelson Art Gallery which is free on Sunday.
Thanks for the video. I lived in KCMO from 1973-1989. Fantastic city with tons of great stuff to see and do. You barely scratched the surface. I'd love to see you go back and do Westport, Country Club Plaza, Ward Parkway, Swope Park, Unity Village, and the zoo. I would probably live there now, but I'm getting old, and the climate in KCMO is hideous. I retired in fabulous Las Cruces, New Mexico, which is glorious. Love your videos.
The Midwest cities are so underrated. I hope they don't go the way of Nashville or Austin and get too gentrified. KC, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati are great American cities, but I fear if they get too much development they'll be unaffordable after a while.
It's already starting in Cincinnati. Have you been to Over-the-Rhine in the last decade or so? About 20 years ago, it was one of the poorest and most crime-ridden areas in the United States. Now it's one of the most expensive places in the entire state of Ohio to live. The same thing goes for the West End, which is right next to OTR. Since about 2007 or so, urban renewal projects have displaced a lot of historic buildings and longtime residents, and now that the soccer stadium was built there, gentrification in that neighborhood is spreading like butter on toast. And if I had to guess, Avondale is probably next if the seeds of gentrification haven't already been planted there as well. You can also include Columbus on your list. It is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and I believe the fastest-growing in the Midwest. And as such, the cost-of-living and home prices are growing along with it.
Hi, Thank you for the Video. I live in Kansas City metro area. This is a great city to live in. it has all amenities that you can imagine but in smaller scale. Great people. Fantastic museum " Adkins Museum of Art" great food, amusement park " World's of Fun", great gardens and most importantly no traffic. if you are sport fan, this is your city, Baseball " KC Royal", Football " KC Chief", Soccer "Sporting Kansas City" Also you should have visit Plaza shopping district. great architecture, great Universities close to Kansas City " University of Kansas", University of Missouri". City of Kansas City are investing greatly to bring people to live in downtown Kansas City and they are building new residential apartments and building a new Stadium for Women Soccer by the river. Before I forget City of Kansas City building a brand new Airport. they in the right track. The other reason I love Kansas City is whenever you want to visit anywhere in United States just fly anywhere in country within 2 +/- flight time. this is great. if you want to drive then, 4 hours to Saint Louis, 8 hours to Chicago and close to many other major cities. Also, read other people's comments that mentioned place such as WWI Museum, Union Stations and T-Mobile Center for big concerts and sport event. The Kansas City keep its residence entertained and busy.
Hope you got a chance to go through the WWI museum, it is truly world class. I'll never forget when the Royals won the World Series in 2015. And of course the Chiefs Superbowl in 2020. Lots of great music there too. You did a great job showing the sights.
Kansas City is actually the largest city in Missouri if you compare core city limit populations to St. Louis. Google is a fun tool!! KC pop is approx 505,000 while STL is approximately 293,000.
Summit Fair is another nice local place to walk through. And Downtown Independence has all the old architecture which is popular for photo shoots with some historical sites
there's actually a LOT to do if you have the discretionary income. you could keep yourself busy every single weekend doing something. It's easier if you have a group of social friends or kids, a bit harder if your single
The comment that there's nothing else to do in Kansas City except attend sporting events is just wrong. Within sight of the T-Mobile Center that includes the College basketball Hall of Fame there's the Kauffman Center for the performing Arts; the building designed by the same architect as the famous Sydney Opera House in Australia. It is the home of the Kansas City Symphony, and the Kansas City Ballet, and hosts numerous performers from Cirque de Soleil to popular music performers. There is also the Muriel Kauffman Botanical garden in the vicinity of UMKC, and the Nelson Art Gallery which has a sculpture garden that includes one of the original castings of Rodin's "The Thinker" and inside features works of the great painters including one of Monet's "Water Lilies" Union Station that includes Science City, The Liberty Memorial and WW I Museum; Crown Center that boasts a "Legoland" (Adults not admitted if not in the company of a child.) and that's just adjacent to the Main Street corridor from Downtown to the Plaza district that has shops and boutiques that accommodate the most lavish tastes. And Kansas City', Missouri's bus, and streetcar service is all free. Yes. Like in the song from the Broadway Musical, "Oklahoma," "Everything's up to date in Kansas City."
If you're only giving KC 2 days then you aren't doing 1/4 of the things that you can do. But by all means, keep thinking that KC is fly-over and that there isn't anything to do here and it will remain a well-kept secret. You've only scratched the surface.
I am sad that the KC Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum didn't make this list. Plowboys isn't the local favorite, although some do rank it up there on some people's list.
