I can’t imagine the feeling of going “oh they did a line about me” then “oh they did a few lines” then “oh my god like half of this song is about me” then another singer comes out to do like a reprise of her name that is insane
I mean, we (all gay men that ever existed) lived every minute of that with Laura Dern from start to god damn finish. KWEEN.
And then she won an Oscar the next day
Not sure about anyone else, but I feel like there wasn't enough Laura Dern.
There's never enough Laura Dern.
Is there ever??
Loving these threads - my pre-spring cocaine
I agree
We need more Laura Dern
I just love that I think this might be the most fun Laura Dern’s ever had.
Elizabeth Karn hahahahaha
If more award shows had moments like this, I’d actually watch them
I love that this happened and the very next night she won an Oscar
Might be the most fun other people in the room ever had too!
Oh I bet this is in her top 5 career moments.
there's something very unsettling yet validating about having my inner thoughts sung out loud by a gay men's choir to a crowd of famous people
That's representation
I love that the title doesn't spoil this.
Me too.
I love that even if the title had said the chorus honors Laura Dern, it still wouldn't have spoiled all this gloriousness!
yes!
There's no way Laura Dern was happier winning the oscar than listening to gay men sing about her
This is honestly better than an Oscar
You can actually see Laura Dern’s soul leave her body for a moment and it is beautiful.
@metube Lol yes that moment.
a bit of explanation for those who didn't understand why Laura Dern (besides bc look at her omg)
laura dern lost a lot of work and all the big producers stopped working with her during a lot of years bc she played the love interest on the ellen coming out episode. she's an ally and she's spoken (used her voice and privilege) for the lgbtq+ community lots of times. she's said she would do it all again bc of what it meant to so many people. it's an homage
Plus having a crush on her in Jurassic Park was a step in coming out for a lot of folks. But yes, mostly celebrating a true ally.
And just the fact that her character in Marriage Story is the true icon to every gay human
been a fan of laura dern since her david lynch films, there is something about her, some kind of performative femininity that is very appealing to gender nonconforming people such as myself...
But also the way she kicks her feet up on the couch.
and because in every role she feels like a gay rights icon
This further cemented her status as a gay icon.
Ace Edmonds she does have *energy* after all
And hopefully a guest judge spot on RuPaul's Drag Race.
Eat your heart out Katy Perry!!
It's ridiculous how much joy this continues to bring me.
yes
SAME! XD
It’s not. I have the same 😁
I watch it SOOOOOO MUCH
idk why but “Awkwafina Guggenheim rejection letter” is such an inherently funny phrase
What did that even mean 😭😭😭😭
@@MarinaAndTheDevil Awkwafina plays the main role in "The Farewell" (2019, great film) and her character receives a rejection letter from the Guggenheim Fellowship she applied for.
@@justaslovelyasyouare very gay indeed
I don't understand why it was gay.
@@kassiogomes8498 it just seems pretty gay
This whole clip makes me so happy. Love how into it Laura Dern got. Her reaction reaffirms why she deserved this delightful recognition
She's crying happy tears from laughter at the end haha
Samd her reaction is priceless! XD
She’s the best!!!🤍 [Cue Kate McKinnon as Hillary, “I can’t make you looooooove me 🎶”
She got blacklisted in Hollywood for being in Ellen’s sitcom when she came out. Laura loves us so we love her. So glad she’s getting her career back ❤️
It’s about time someone acknowledged Laura Dern’s obvious gay icon status.
Some communities thank allies with a plaque... the gays will write a fucking epic musical number proclaiming you a gay icon because we're just extra like that
Yes, and then we will call in someone like Alex Newell to belt out your name in ridiculously high notes and casually turn it into some sort of power ballad
Honestly how can you even hate gays? Most of us make life so fun
Nah
@@MarinaAndTheDevil nah there’s a reason
@@eye4104 that we turn you on?
-“LGBTQ representation in films is more important than ever”
-*Silence*
💀💀💀
Aubrey Plaza had to break her own neck for them to fucking clap 🙏 a gay rights activist ❤️
Give it up for straight people everyone 😬
Pause then a sound of someone farting in the audience
Interesting. I always read that gag as deliberate. Like it was a sarcastic evocation of the political urgency tag-on that seems to show up in every awards show speech and introduction. She kind of did something similar with the female directors joke in the opening where she made it more about playfully trolling paranoid conservatives than congratulating the voter body (which is usually what they’re for).
@@joshy_bish your comment is cringe 😬
@@tatehildyard5332great analysis!
its been 2 years but I hope this still brings Laura Dern as much joy as it brings me all this time later. she's truly a queen
Everything about this is so gay. Spirit awards, Aubrey plaza introducing an LA choir, Naomi Watts singing along to the name Laura Dern. This is a cultural peak.
This has got to be a better award than an Oscar cause this will never, ever, fade into obscurity
Barely anyone remembers this
@@eye4104 No one remembers who got the Oscar five years ago, but everyone will remember when THEE Laura Dern was cemented as a gay icon.
@@Nehmi lol no
i come back here every 6 months to cope with existing
I remember this moment every time I hear Laura Dern's name and it is glorious
I swear I've watched this 36 times and I keep getting chills! LOL
Same ^
My wig definitely flew onto the stage, Laura is everything.
“The title of the movie Diane” haha. I love this whole thing and you know at least half the room did not understand the concept/joke lol. Things gays love can be tricky to explain. But one thing everyone got: Laura Dern = Gay Icon
Still one of the most memorable moments in any awards history... I come back to it every once in a while...
If you done the gays good, you get blessed like this.
Cringe 😬
On top of everything else perfect about this video, the fact that Aubrey Plaza introduces it is exquisite
That was spectacular! My family came to check up on me because I was laughing so hard at the Laura Dern part.
Serena E hahahaha
I love it when family do that 😁
So wholesome.
Omg I waaaaas screaming with the end, and the fact that I've seen it so many times on Twitter before. Laura Dern is such a gay icon hahahaha
I think about this at least once a month. I hope it still brings Laura Dern as much joy as it brings me.
Totally agree! Laura Dern is a treasure.
The concept of a cursed bird...hahahah
Naomi Watts singing along is all of us @3:03 🤣
Nah
yesss shes my spirit animal
I want the Laura Dern part as my ringtone 🙌🏻
Tom Gwerzman 😂😂😂😂😂😂😍
also: aubrey plaza.
G Bradley hells yea
JLo wasn't having it. Her facial expression was so stiff. Laura Dern took it all in. Love her.
It's weird how over it she seemed. So strange!
Alex Newell has an amazing voice
the little artist prodigy boy in Parasite too, probably
I missed this show last year, but I adore Laura Dern, and had no idea this was coming. I've watched this 30 times in the past 4 days, and the joy that radiates from her fills my soul up to the brim. I LOVE THIS. What an icon, getting her true due after so long.
Yes!!!
I would have loved to see Idina's reaction too bad she was backstage 😂😂 she knows she's a gay icon
I always come back here. I feel so happy that Laura is finally receiving the love she deserves. What a queen!
Crying again because I'm such a Laura Dern stan. She's never let us down. 💙
I’ve been obsessed with Laura Dern since I saw Jurassic Park at four years old, wayyyy before I knew I was gay. It’s like gay men are just born to be Laura Dern stans.
Since Mask for me. The lesbians got it figured out.
IKR??? I was obsessed with her in Jurassic Park.
She’s been a icon since Jurassic Park in my opinion 🤷🏽♀️ and honestly when I watched marriage story those same scenes had me gagged like only a gay would understand ordering a kale salad 😊😎❤️❤️❤️
I’m gay. I don’t get the kale salad reference?
They could have done a thousand takes and not done any better. Love the choir and all their smiling faces and such an amazing voice to take it home. It all coulda fallen flat or mediocre but it was a home run knocked clean out of the park by Laura D's reaction. Nice to see people genuinely laughing and having a good time for a change.
P.S Aubrey P looking beautiful and funny in all her awkward ways. Love your work. Cheers
i now know for sure i'm gay, cause ALL i talked about after watching ''marriage story'' was LAURA DERN, i even rewatched blue velvet after, cause i missed her agressive 80's beauty
Sailor & Lula was my favorite movie ever as a teenager. I watched it over and over just to get more of.... LAURA DERN (I didn't yet fully understand what I was feeling but... LAURA DERN)
"aggressive 80s beauty". I love that phrase.
This is officially my favorite moment from any awards show, ever 💖💖
This is the most joyful thing mankind has ever produced.
Laura Dern is a global treasure, and it brings me endless joy that her montage (appropriately) climaxed with her David Lynch collaborations. Lula!!!
As a gay man, I can say that is very accurate. My life purpose will be fulfilled when I have a drink with this gay icon named Laura Dern.
I have to come back every year to this video to get my shot of needed serotonin
Still loving this 2 years later
😂 jlo not sure its a compliment or humiliation
Sean Domhnall O Sullivan lol damn how did she hurt you
She seemed very pissed off and in this ceremony
I feel like people of her fame level have a little voice in the back of their head that warns them of embracing weird things that might alienate their millions of followers (not referring to the LGBTQ+ culture element but rather this weird indie award show and its quirkiness) and I bet that’s why she looks a little cold and stilted
Title of my sex tape
Well, Renata Klein asked for it and the GMCLA obliged: they gave a woman a moment!
I've watched this video so many times just to see how happy Laura Dern gets
JLo didn’t know how to react 😂
well i am singing about Laura Dern in my head 24/7 why am I not getting a credit
i just recevied a rejection letter for an art school just like awkwafina and i never felt more gay in my entire life
This video is the reason I wake up every morning and face the world.
ps: Laura Dern. ✌🏼
This video lives rent free in my mind
Naomi Watts singing/mouthing Laura Dern added years to my life
I hope she thinks of this more than the actual award she won 😂
And that's on periodt! LMAO
The fact that Alex Newell sings the ending really makes it iconic
Gosh, I cannot believe I never realised how gay is Laura Dern...
Unique from Glee!! Gurl you Made It!
What people may not remember is that it was Laura Dern who played the out lesbian who helped Ellen come out in her television show Ellen in 1997. Oprah played her therapist.
It was also Laura Dern who was blackballed in Hollywood for over a year because of the choice to take the role back then. She had just starred as Ellie Sattler in the biggest movie franchise in the world but bomb threats were called in to the set of the sitcom because of the episode. She and Oprah were whisked off set because of a police sweep. The backlash was awful and she had to have a security detail for several years after.
So, to see this 25 or so years later? It’s definitely progress and definitely heartwarming, as I’m sure it was for her, but we cannot forget why it was so important for them to do in the first place.
Laura Dern, indeed. ❤
God I so wish there was a studio version of this
J we re is our studio dance track of it
ua-cam.com/video/X9gf_NUWzdE/v-deo.html
i come back to this video monthly
I can’t believe it’s been a year since this performance. A LOT has happened since! Still love this ❤️
Probably the happiest memory of 2020
This is better than winning an Oscar !! Any choir singing about you is the ultimate validation.
This is it, this is the best UA-cam video, everyone can go home now
This video gives me constant joy. The fact I only watched this because I knew Alex was in it-
I feel like this is Aubrey Plaza's definition of gay and I'm ok with it
This is the song in my head when the world is silent.
“Fka Twigs talking about snakes “ while Shia is on screen aged very well 👀
Is that Unique from Glee? 😲 #whatavoice
YES! Alex Newell, the actor, will star in "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist" on NBC starting next Sunday. ☺
Yessss. That’s Alex. He’s incredible!!
Sean Domhnall O Sullivan No, he did not.
Sean Domhnall O Sullivan Alex’s gender is fluid/limitless!
Kaji nope, Alex identifies as a gender-non conforming gay man

Literally lost it when the diva tongue popped. PERIODT.
I get chills every time I watch this!
this is my favorite thing ever
Yes! Finally someone says it! JLo Pole Dancing to Fiona Apple!! 20GayTeen thank you
That was the top gay moment of a very gay film.
That's true, we do like to go on vacation.
Full rewatch at least every other month & Naomi watts singing along towards the end is the most adorable thing
All of this, I repeat ALL OF THIS is just so perfect and makes me incredibly happy
the best moment of last year's awards season bar none
This is the first thing I think of whenever I hear Laura Dern's name. Bless
considering the 'RAM-DON' part (I was baffled, too …): "The term “ram-don” was invented for the film by subtitle translator Darcy Paquet, as the actual Korean name for the dish, jjapaguri-a combination of two types of instant noodles-was too difficult to translate for an English-speaking audience. Paquet figured audience members would, however, likely be familiar with “ramen” and “udon,” and so he mashed up the two." (source: Food52 blog) Thnx, Food52!
I didn’t get that part 😭
LOL You know you are the shit when our community immortalizes you in song.
2020 HAS BEEN THE WORST YEAR EVER... but also this song was made...
This is still my favourite thing of the year.
This video gets better every single time I watch it!
Ok i'm freaking out lol. This is epic
I’ve seen this maybe 50 times and it still makes me smile
can't watch it without crying
look how happy she is :' )
She has a place in gay heaven for sure
Heaven isn’t gay tho
for suree
@@eye4104they said gay heaven, not that heaven is gay. Different things.
That made my day! Why do we love her (and her mom) so much?!?!
Watching this just resolved my conflicted opinions about Scarlett Johansson - look how genuine her laughter and appreciation of Laura Dern is!
I have come back every week to watch this since I saw it. I love Laura Dern.
Love everything about this
Time to watch this again
This was the first video to pop up when I searched for Laura Dern.
This is genius.
