Hope Patrick and the family are well in this holiday season. No matter what he decides to do with the channel/etc, hope he remembers that he left so much lasting positive impact on how people experience wine - watching him discuss wine, family, and life at large was just so much joy for me and I will always miss that.
I’m 37 years old, started drinking wine at 21, which was primarily $2 buck chuck from Trader Joe’s while going to school in San Diego. After 10 years of California living I thought I had grown in wine knowledge which really just meant I drank Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast and Cabs from Napa. The past several years my palette has discovered the old world and a huge diversity of grape varietals and have started a collection in a modest cellar. Besides drinking these wonderful wines, it is the educational side of understanding where the grapes come from, the wine making process, and the history that intrigues me the most. Wine tasting has actually opened up my smell and tasting senses far greater than when I just drank the stuff to get drunk. It has really been a fun journey and I’m only scratching the surface. Saying all that because I wanted to share a piece of my story, because now discovering Pat, Peter, and Jay on UA-cam has really helped inspire me to further develop this knowledge. Appreciate all the work you do in putting these videos together. If I still lived in CA I would def drop by for a visit or a class and a glass :)
I really prefer old world. That may change, but I don't regret the money I spend on French and Italian wines. The latter, especially, have been a revelation.
Hi Pat. My name is Zach and I am a WSET Diploma student. I am happy to see you again on UA-cam. I did not know you had a channel. I was wondering why you were not with WINEKING anymore, but now I see why you are not. I think you are a gifted taster. You are much more precise than many other tasters that I see online. Please continue to make video.
Pat, for what it's worth you're one of my favourite voices in wine and I find it a shame that your content seems to have dried up somewhat. I hope to see more. Would really love some blind tasting content. Best wishes from Amsterdam.
Discussions being made @2:52 are why i went to him and Peter for info and got me so engaged last that last weekend i myself started going down the WSET path and completed my level 1.
Pat what’s the story behind the legs or tears of wine after swirling in the glass? Does it really indicate alcohol level? I’m sure you’ve mentioned it before in another video but I can’t recall. Thanks!
I agree Pat 120% in all the lines! Definitely nowadays finding honest scores is very difficult! However, often points work only for consumers that don't have an opinion!
As a marketing researcher, I'm intrigued to get my hands on some data to track wine scores (from critics), from crowdsourced scores, and outcome variables such as price/sales. I'm all for wine schools, academies, or clubs :) Sign me up! Absolutely agree that one should not be judgmental about a person's wine preferences.
I've found I look more at the information on the bottle and see If I can find it on a map first far more often than some kind of rating number. Its turned out alright for the most part.
Pat is so incredibly knowledgeable. If I was in California I might seriously take you up on the lessons or club idea. Do more Q&As! Teach us more about how to shop for wine at specialty stores! How about "Master of Wine goes shopping at Total Wine"?
Dear Pat. I quote: "My view on points...., b*llsh*t". That is a very clear statement! You don't make friends, i write with a wink. Fortunately, you nuance that statement. Sometimes you just need to be clear. Especially when it comes to point scores. And i agree with you, point scores are often subjectief. And opinions on a wine in general. They can serve as a tool, no more, no less! The solution, develop your own taste and opinion. What the beautiful story of Houston Haynes told. Worth mentioning. I have had chateau Meyney 1992 (difficult year, WS 83 points.) in my winecellar for 20 years. In one word, beautifully developed (For lovers of light & elegant old Bordeaux). By the way, nice jazzy music at the end of the video!
Where are you going to run your wine club? I'm in the bay area and wants to get deeper into wine. I'm a self learner with 10 years experience and really want to learn more!
Wine shopping in the state of Pennsylvania is really difficult. State run stores with only a handful being "premium" stores with better wine selections. Although I don't place a great deal of importance on scores there are times when I'm blind shopping with limited selections and it gives me a slight advantage to one over the other. The only other options are a Vivino scan or a detailed shelf talker.
Great video - thank you for your invaluable insight into this industry. I appreciate the honest candor as much as the detail. Please keep going for all of us fans!
I'm so looking forward to seeing your neeeeew contents again. As I heard you rejoined with peter lol. WoW It's hard to wait for the best wine content.😅
The unoaked Selyem Chard is good stuff. The 97 monte bellos are drinking beautifully. I got a case. Also MB 2013 historic vines 🍷🍷 I’d be interested in your wine school Dr. Pat.
Yes thank you Dr. Farrell!! Ratings are all BS. I remember a winemaker told me that you could send your wine to several reviewers and you can slap on the highest score and ignore the others.
Some wine rating experts will rate a wine at let’s say, 95 pts., based on drinking the wine 2-5 years from now. How can someone taste how good a wine will be in the future?
I can't speak about their advertising in-magazine but Wine & Spirits reviews samples blind. As far as wine ratings go from publications, I hold them in high regard.
at 7.40 the wife said somthing about you are the only one who is making objective comments and not trying to sell wine reveals she is not friendly with wine king any more. Such a strong comment clearly. And Why is the channel suddenly died around 1 year ago?
Since I am planning to move to California next year(for taking class for diploma), it would be great to join your club😋 'We can travel in time' I wish I can be good enough for tasting to catch them too(which is too toughhh)
I'm impressed you don't pursue commercial ad from wineshop or distributor! so you're not biased and I can trust your opnion. Thank you for your kindness. I'm from korea and I always watch your videos not wineking channel :)
You should reconnect with Jay/Peter, and bury whatever hatchet there is. All would win. Was curious why you weren't in Korea with Peter, you should go Doctor Pat.
I have followed your videos since the very first one you released, loved every single one but this one. WineKing basically gave you the audience you have & you're outright bashing him & Peter? Just sucks to see.
I must say, it seems there are many underhanded digs against Peter and Jay from wine king happening here. I found out about your channel by watching them and it’s honestly a bad look on your part to essentially copy their format then throw digs their way. If you have good information to share keep it objective and to the point however every time I tune in, which is less and less, there is a tone that comes off as condescending. Most people on the internet are looking for entertainment and knowledge. I hope you and your channel can do a better job of providing that moving forward and leave your personal relationships out of the picture.
The only person who looks bad here is you. You are assuming and speculating a ton here, and a completely unwarranted claim that he copied the format. Are you blind? In what way, does this channel copy the way wineking creates its channel, other than that it features a MW and it discusses wine? (Wineking is basically 90% blind tasting plus crapping on famous and overrated wines). If you are clueless and do not have anything nice to say, maybe just don’t say anything?
I don't watch many videos of this channel, but i didn't feel any jabs at least in this video. He always strikes me a bit as the teacher type of person, which might rub some people in the wrong way, so maybe that is your issue with him.
Hope Patrick and the family are well in this holiday season. It doesn't matter if the wine has a score of 89. All that matters is whether YOU like the wine. PERIODT

Hello Pat. I am curious to learn about how could you describe the aging potential of a wine.
I think finding a rating source that matches your tastes for the most part, can be a good guide. Same goes for movie reviewers.
The unoaked Selyem Chard is good stuff. The 97 monte bellos are drinking beautifully. I got a case. Also MB 2013 historic vines 🍷🍷
I’d be interested in your wine school Dr. Pat.

Sometime, I want to know infusion and fermentation comparing :-) because coffee industry they are using differently.

Love your content. Would be awesome if you made some tasting videos with Peter

That Kabaj Rebula is a wonderful wine (although it wasn't featured in this video)

Some wine rating experts will rate a wine at let’s say, 95 pts., based on drinking the wine 2-5 years from now. How can someone taste how good a wine will be in the future?
Its hard to predict that, but what you could potentially guess is the aging potential, based on levels of tannins, acidity, alcohol and body.

Patrick, are you still there? 🤔

Id love to also attending a wine school with you pat!!! I'm in Europe so would love to attend virtually

I too love Ridge Monte Bello and am in the Collector program. What an outstanding wine! Cheers 🥂
Video idea, “why I’m not on the winking channel anymore” boom! 100k… you are welcome
Where are you doc missing you
