Undoubtedly the best known grape varietal of the Hunter Valley is semillon. Undoubtedly one of the best known versions of semillon is the iconic Vat 1 from Tyrrells.
Jase and I were lucky enough to have a 2006 and 2017 Vat1 to see the crazy evolution of semillon over time and also how special it can be both young and old.
The Vat 1 vineyard is from 1923, pre-phylloxera, dry grown, hand picked to really represent the area on the Hunter. Stunning wines…. get in there!!!
