- This is the first of 2 shows the boys performed. New keys man Chris Fischer has been with the band about 3 months…sounded great. These songs “ Ruled by Venus” is one of Julio’s tunes while the second number is what the band played for their encore last year. This year they’ve included it as the second selection in the set lineup. Old San Juan and Heliopolis ( both are Beckenstein tune’s from the early 1980s.)
Where is Tom Schuman?
Tom decided to move his family to Europe, which is where he now lives. Emotions were high with this decision as he and Jay were the founding fathers of Spyro Gyra over 40 yrs ago. The separation was excepted with smiles and gratitude and hugs all around as Tom will be missed. Tom continues to make music. I’ll be at solo projects or projects with other musicians. Jay has always referred to Tom as being a genius and no doubt he is.

Jeremy Wall was another founding member who left. But he left quite some time ago, late 80s I believe. He went on to teach music I think. Anyway....this was a great set!! Very cool to hear Old San Juan live. A favorite!! Love Spyro Gyra!! 😎🎷
