Same here, friend... I was in Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when I came across this piece... what a strong impact on me... I still have the cassette tape with me, almost 40 years ago now...
This was my first Spyro Gyro Album . Love it so much that I went to see them live in Concert in Philly’a Mann Music Theater. Show was Off the Charts!!😎😎
This has been on my Top 5 Road Trip recordings, that I listen to while traveling, since the 1980's. Other songs come and go. But Old San Juan has never been taken off. 👍👍 10⭐& Countless 💖
I have been d fan n listening them for 30 years since my younger days...hv all d cassette.....d music touches my deep to my soul. Each time listening again brings back old memories.
@@bfdmudk Indeed. Just saw the band last Sunday at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano CA. Spyro Gyra nearing their 50th Anniversary were in top notch form and are still the best band on the planet. Old San Juan was presented in truncated form last Sunday. After the guitar solo, OSJ went directly into Heliopolis.
I just find out now that Spyro Gyra has a YT channel ... SJG! (Smooth Jazz God! lol) This track is my favorite from Spyro! A friend who died very young in tragic circumstances introduced me to smooth jazz in the early 80s and this band (r.i.p. my friend). So much water has flowed under the bridges now. Sweet 80s Nostalgia. Thank you Spyro for all emotion you shared with us. :)
The first time I was able to really listen to S.G. was when I moved to Miami in 1982. Incognito absolutely blew me away and no tune more so than Old San Juan. It is so lush and complex. Jay Beckenstein at his absolute best.
Now we're talking! Great piece with the latin groove! I don't now how Steve Gadd does it. I tried this on the drums and sort of got it, being I am nowhere nears a professional. There is a lot going on here but meshes so well. And love Jorge Dalto's piano! Yes Jay, and of course your killer sax! And great album with the best musicians out there! Thanks!
Jorge Dalto, Steve Love en la guitarra, Manolo Badrena, Gerardo Velez en percusiones y claro el dùo dinàmico Marcus Miller y Steve Gadd, entre otros. Spyro Gyra Incògnito de 1982
OMG! This is the music that made curious about Spyro Gyra. Masterpiece, masterstroke, sublime. Hardly anything beats it after all these years, even Spyro Gyra hadn't come up with anything hotter except maybe Pure Mood but that is more on the cool side not hot like this.
I'm sorry to say it but Spyro Gyra was the only band (of their type) consistently to release great music year after year. Contemporaries like Yellowjackets, Matheney, Jean Luc Ponty, David Sanborne, et al (and I love hem all) all had their moments, but EVERY SPYRA GRYA ALBUM RULES
Jay Beckenstein (a sax), Jorge Dalto (p), Rob Mounsey/Tom Schuman (synth), David Samuels (vib), Steve Love (g), Marcus Miller (b), Steve Gadd (d), Gerardo Velez/Manolo Badrena (perc) and horns in 1982.
Original song from MFSB. But this SG rendition blows my mind just fresh out of college. Jay B is at his best here. Let me practice those notes on my alto.
MFSB's "Old San Juan" is a completely different song, composed by James Herb Smith and Joel Bryant. This here, while having the same name, is an original Jay Beckenstein composition. But I agree: Jay is absolutely amazing here. Enjoy listening and playing!
You can't imagine the impact of this music when I have heard it for the first time 32 years ago. Still today it cause me goosebumps.
Precisely. It is getting on for 40 years for me. A friend got the LP and played it to me. My musical world changed that day!
Same here, friend... I was in Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when I came across this piece... what a strong impact on me... I still have the cassette tape with me, almost 40 years ago now...
me this morning in the car. when that 1 min mark. GOOSEBUMPS
Oh yes I can! (even after all these years, including the 2 years ago you posted this!) 👍
A mystery of life’s dream. Is all in each piece of ‘tis sound Goosebumps

What a lucky SOB you are. I've never got to see them. Bet they did this tune?
Growing up in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I used to drive at night in the streets of Old San Juan and blast this on my stereo. Those were good times!!!!!!
Holy shit that sounds amazing. Blasting this driving around anywhere anytime feels great, can't even imagine.
It takes me (a South African) straight to Old San Juan without ever having been there..beautiful piece❤️
I've always love spyro gyra since the 70s.
Ayyy Bendito Puelto Rico....Borinquen soy....This is to you,Puertoricans at heart, and at birth.
This joint is flawless from beginning to end! Standout joint from Spyro Gyra's Incognito Album!
This has been on my Top 5 Road Trip recordings, that I listen to while traveling, since the 1980's. Other songs come and go. But Old San Juan has never been taken off. 👍👍 10⭐& Countless 💖
This song takes you there without really being to Old San Juan. Beautiful!
I as well...the day frank Zappa Passed away.😍
I absolutely love this song, possibly my favorite from SpyroGyra
Sounds just as good now as it did in 1982.
Rock and occasionally salsa in Puerto Rico , but when I heard Spyro I got “hooked “ I play percussion I always apply this to my music .
Tengo 65 años y este grupo me ha facinado desde que lo oí a los 20
I saw this band in Puerto Rico for the firs time😊 on early 80's. Got most of their recordings
I admire them very much
I have been d fan n listening them for 30 years since my younger days...hv all d cassette.....d music touches my deep to my soul. Each time listening again brings back old memories.
운전중 듣다가 너무 멋진 멜로디에 감동받았습니다~
겨우겨우 찾아서 다시 들어 봅니다
At or near the top of all time SPYRO GYRA classics. It's been out of the live setlists WAY WAY TOO LONG!
They play it on the current tour!

I love this band. I first heard them in 2002 and fell in love with them. They came to Kyiv in 2009 and 2018 and I was there both times.
Jay Beckenstein was at his best here.

A friend stopped by to borrow my alto sax for a gig he had that night. He dropped the Catching The Sun album on me, and my life was forever changed.
My happiness n elation know no bounds right now. Thank you Spyro G for lifting my spirits.
My favorite Spyro Gyra Tune
Thank you Art Goode and Jazz Trax for introducing me to this group and this tune. Have loved this tune ever since it came out in the 80's.

Was cruisin in the streets of London and blasting this song in my friends car. TQ Fadzil.
I love your music forever
Jay wrote this song for his 30th birthday................. with a smile on his face....as he puts it, "That's a LONG time ago"
I play the sax still trying to play this well but I know with practice and God's help I will play this well one Day.
ALWAYS featured in live shows and full of improvisation genius from the guys!!!!
I adore Spyro Gyra especially this masterpiece ! From 1987 till now! it reminds me greek islands!
I thought caribe was my favorite song until I discovered this the other day it’s 2023
Epic piece
Jay kills on this!
One of the main songs that pulled me to Jazz. I could dream I was there!
Now we're talking! Great piece with the latin groove! I don't now how Steve Gadd does it. I tried this on the drums and sort of got it, being I am nowhere nears a professional. What a horn section and arrangement! Killer guitar solo as well. What production!
Jorge Dalto was a giant. It was a tragedy that he died so young.
Hiram Bullock on guitar . . .Say no more. RIP.
This is an all time favourite
I never love music before 1983, but Old San Juan took me in and out from jamming studio🎉🎊 you guys rock👍😎
Spyro Gyra Rocks. SS
This is just incredible.
That guitar solo is so evocative of Old San Juan! This song has it all. 🙏💥

This and "Oasis" are my favorite joints from Spyro Gyra's "Incognito" Album!! This is Modern Jazz magic!
Mucho bueno Spyro Gyra
Still the best - had it on cassette and then on CD and loving it
Amo esta música. Tão intensa, fala muito comigo. Adoro💖❤🥰

between marcus miller and will lee, SG's early LPs always featured such top-flight low end.
Nice, good harmonia and very fresh taim, groove smooth jazz, hard staff =

Check out some of the Japanese jazz bands. Casiopea in particular is full of great albums as well.
Makes me want to learn to 🕺 💃 big time !!!!!!!
Simply the best!

Remember You
Jerry Hey and The Seawind horns are as tight a horn section as you will get. They set it off on this track.

great song!
Lovely song about Puerto Rico's capital city. I think the good Puerto Ricans should have their indepence from the the USA.

I couldn't find this in Tidal, not in Deezer either.
SGが大好きでしたがこのアルバムを大好きだった昔の彼女がカセットにダビングしてプレゼントしてくれた
