Wow! What an amazing progress from the beginning. The detailed reconstruction of the boat and then within weeks ocean sailing. The culmination ( I have not seen all the movies) is around Lanzarote with the tour of the boat. What’s amazing is your stamina. You have brought us amazing drone footage, quite moving commentaries of times that have been very difficult, and with this confidence and acceptance of all that the sea throws at you. Inspirational! Obviously, and amazingly, you always knew you would be able to do this. You knew the boat would be up to the task in braving these huge seas. And what inspires me and perhaps many subscribers is your confidence, your very natural and informative videos together with your highly engaging style. We are following you and wishing you every success and thanks for enriching our lives.
My ketch is 2 meters longer but I watched your details and learned quite a bit. I’ll be adding solar panels soon and upgrading my electronics. I admire your Atlantic crossing and your organization. Good sailing...
Hi buddy, love your work! One piece of advise: Check the speaker installation, if they're not installed with a proper panel / box behind them they can become quite dangerous. In case a big wave crashes in the cockpit, the membranes rip out and the speakers become essentially big gaping holes.
It has been a very enjoyable journey to watch all of your hard work on shore, and now sailing the boat and watching you enjoy your labors. I very much align with your maintenance and sailing philosophies. I hope you keep posting videos of your travels.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I've really enjoyed learning about the refit of your boat and how you handle maintenance during your passages. Fairs Winds and Following Seas!
Lovely boat. I had a Catalina 27 which is a similar size. Damn it could turn on a dime and had incredible handling. Love your configuration. One thing that the Catalina had was shelves under the windows with slide doors. This was great as it gave you extra strorage without stuff flying about. It also covered the wiring looms. Maybe your next woodwork project ?? 😋
2 tips: Paint your shower bucket black and it will get quite warm. There is plastic black spray paint, no primer needed. When you coil your halyards, don't wrap the knot over the top, just tuck them between the mast and taught halyard. You will be able to drop a sail faster if necessary. Brilliant you have the storm jib. Really helpful to keep the nose up in heavy weather. I used one on my 21footer in 40 knots and it was great! Reduce sail early :-)
@@IrregularPineapples It’s a standard mast foot of a windsurf mast. Pretty robust, cheap and very useful. The exact term may be different but I am sure you will find it. I am sailing for over 2 years with this construction, no signs of fatigue. They are supposed to hold way more powers anyway…
Great video! I love how you've brought all the lines back to the cockpit and explained how your auto-pilot works. It seems like you outfitted your boat with all the important tools you see in bigger boats so that everything you need is close by without being cramped. To make an analogy with cooking, it is how a chef might design a compact kitchen with all the important tools close by yet still providing ample space for cooking and preparing food with no wasted space - except for the lack of enough headroom.. I hope while at anchor, the hatch opens far enough so you can stand while cooking as long as the hatch is open. Otherwise I'd want some way to be able to sit or kneel while cooking. Having to bend my neck would get old quickly. Have you seen "How to sail oceans"? Like yours, videos from that channel show the owner solo sailing his 30 footer. He has vast experience making ocean passages on his boat. He does it the old fashioned way. In fact his boat has no engine. Watching him maneuver his boat in close quarters in harbors with boats all around under sail or using a sculling oar is a treat.
Loving your channel, thank you. Great to see the tour of your boat, your mods are awesome. Great idea to use heavier grades of chain nearer the anchor, I must do that as I have a 26 footer with no windlass. Also loved your hybrid instruments that swing from cockpit to saloon. Lovely boat, so we'll done for all your hard work restoring and improving her and especially for taking the time share it all with us; you are truly an inspiration - Thank you!
Ah !!
I have been inching to get a 20 meter boat. But honesty I see now that I can do with much less and start living the dream now. Great inspiration to us all.
Great work mate - you're livin' the dream and documenting it well...love your boat and what you've done with it! I'm about to buy a KP44 to take my young family cruising for the next few years and envy how well you know your boat! Fair Winds ...
We have just bought an Ecume de Mer and are very pleased with it. There is a surprisingly good amount of space for a small boat with standing room. I’m glad that we waited for the right boat to come along⛵️ Cheers for the video! Darren
Nice, EdM are the best :) Maybe you know it already, but this website is great, all about EdM: amd.alio.free.fr/ukecumedemerFrame-1.htm and also the Facebook page Ecume de Mer Mallard World
A silly thought for you. Get a large flexible hose (wide) and couple it to your snorkel (you can get a cheap plastic fitting with a screw clamp) and then lock the topside of the hose to a couple of feet above the waterline. You can now do some SNUBA and spend time under the bottom of the boat doing repairs (like resetting the propeller and doing zincs and the like).
yeah, I though about this. Someone told me also that with this system it's important to blow the air outside the snorkel, and not inside, otherwise you end up breathing the same CO2 hehe
I've really enjoyed all of your videos up to this point. I have a Canadian built Contessa 26 that I'm refurbishing with the ultimate goal of long-distance cruising and your videos are motivating and inspirational! You're clearly a more experienced sailor than I am, but I have another boat (smaller) that I'm going to day-sail this Summer to get a bit more experience. Nice video! Boat set up just right it looks like.. I'm leaving three months heading South on US Coast. Glad to see another single-handed sailor. Have fun..
Hi buddy. Love your journey. I also tow a decathlon kayak. After about 500 miles of hard sailing the front handle began to tear. Attach a backup line to the mid kayak handles.
As usual, a really good episode. Personally I love the two tone paint - I'm not sure why so many people want their boats to just blend into the ocean. I like the idea of the smallest boat that's really safe to sail in the accidental big ocean....
Love your channel! I used to support Delos but they lost their way and lost my sponsorship in the process. Keep up the great uploads and stay true to who you are as your content is fantastic!
I just discovered your videos. Your work is fantastic on your boat. I am a professional boat builder from a long time ago and am amazed by the young generation now fixing these small boats. Wonderful job. Keep up the good work. I have a few videos myself you can see for some ideas for your boat. Thank you for the videos. PS, I am french also but my french is very bad. Jean Mondeau
Back again :) with a new perspective! Upgrading from my daysailer 11 footer zef from the 50s (a french boat :) - im keeping it around for fun) to a Hunter 27. Time to re-absorb your advice
Grear tour. I encountered this channel casually when vieweing other sailing video. On the related vids there was one like "crossing the Atlantic on a 26ft boat", and, hey, I had to look at that. Then, hooked, LOL. I started also to see SV Delos from chapter 1, only 8 viewed so far, I still didn' reach the "party point". But Sailing Frenchman is nice indeed I also saw several chapters from Erik Aandera channel on the North Atlantic, quite focused, I like them too, much more than Delos. As I have limited time to watch "TV" (UA-cam is almost the only TV I watch), I centered on Sailing French, Erik Aandera, and a bit of Patrik Laine (more from him later... oh, days should have 30 hours...). I think Delos is now at the rear of the train at this moment
Sooner or later you will develop neck and back injuries by having to bend over like you do. I can tell you having a curved spine that is now causing my neck to clasp rendering me disabled and in pain is not what you want. Best to up grade as soon as able for your well being. I admire your courage to get out and sail. Thank you for taking us along.

Fine ship sir. Well thought out. Recommend a vhf with GPS and AIS. Eg standard horizon 2200e. Less than £300, and might help you sleep better on passage. Fair winds
Love your lifestyle and sense of freedom. It is really amazing what you can fit into a small space and how you can simplify your life of you have to when chasing your dreams. BTW I have a Mavic and its awsome bit of kit as you know. Looking forward to more videos. You should get a handheld gimbal for filming too as it will make the footage easier to watch. Personally I get a bit nauseous when the camera jumps about too much. Stay safe and enjoy every minute of your adventures. Thanks for taking us with you.
Thanks a lot! yeah, I thought about a handheld gimbal, but it makes the whole setting much more complicated and fragile. I like the go pro session because I can just grab it and film, doesn't mater if there is water splashes...etc. But if you know about an affordable and simple waterproof gimbal, I'm interested to hear about it!
The Sailing Frenchman yes I get what you mean. Maybe this one. Not all that cheap but maybe something to consider for the future. store.feiyu-tech.com/products/feiyu-tech-fy-wg2-waterproof-wearable-gimbal-for-gopro-hero5-4-session-and-similar-dimensions-action-camera. Just for comfort I think I would be happier with a 32 foot or so. Hans Christian if I had a choice but your boat does well. Your photography is brilliant. Bon courage mon vieux.
I am very interested in how you are launching and recovering your drone. I'm a sailor who flies drones as a separate hobby. I have a 15' daysailer and have been trying to figure out how to take pictures of myself and my boat while sailing. Major props for figuring this out!
Well, it's all about risking it... and a good insurance. I just take off and land the drone with one hand, from the leeward side of the boat. I attach some floats to my iron so I can recover it. I have an insurance that covers anything since I don't lose it completely. It's a lots of adrenaline but its fun. I haven't crashed it so far (fingers crossed)
Ou parle Creole? Great video! This boat is very similar to the Offshore 8M built in the UK which is based on the lines of the Van de Stadt Bries from Holland. I have a Bries but it is a restoration project so it is great to see what you have done with yours. My boat is named Erzulie. The demanding lover of Agwe and Dambala whom you may be familiar with. Mesi!
@@TheSailingFrenchman Don't worry it's contextual. Last time I was in Haiti I was in a panic because I couldn't remember anything. Within 2 days I was chatting away. You are French you have an edge. Great videos!
A fantastic series of films of the realities of single handed sailing and congratulations on the restoration of your boat. She looks fabulous. As the mast is stepped on the deck did you check the fibre glass was solid when you were refitting the boat i.e. no flex or saturation of the biscuit/wood layer inside? Maybe I missed it but I don't think so. Bigger boats the mast goes down through the cabin to the floor. In your refit videos you didn't mention the deck save for painting the foredeck with anti-slip paint. Most was on restoration of the external hull. Did you have to replace any of the bulk heads as again you didn't show. Also I am guessing you must have renewed all the sea cocks? Ps I have an Achilles 24 which is a similar very pretty capable boat with safe long distance cruising like the EdM. Fair and warm tail winds to you.
Thanks a lot mate. The deck under the mast was in good condition, so haven't touched it, but you're right, it's a common problem on those boats. Regarding the deck, I've been sanding everything before painting everything again, undercoat, finish paint, and then anti slip paint. No bulk head replaces, al were in good conditions. And yeah, I indeed replaced all the seacocks
^^ Bon vent !
Theay spottet a white shark at the coast of Mallorca a few days ago. Don´t want to scare you and i don´t think he will be a real danger but i want you to know about that. So watch out while you are in the water and catch fish for dinner. I enjoy your videos and like the fact that you keep it real and simple. Wish you the best and fair seas! :)
looking for similar boats online, I found listed this actual boat. I must say that after all the work, time and money you invested on it, your asking price is really reasonable, almost a bargain. No wonder you are going to sell it fast.
Damn, man! My GoPro Karma would NEVER start from a huge metal ship because there would be a permanent "compass interference" error showing up. Anybody else have similar experiences? Great videos! You are actually one of the best english speakers among (probably) whole French nation ;)
Haha, thanks, Regarding the drone, I was indeed getting lots of magnetic interferences, launching and landing were tricky, you have to turn off all sensors, makes the piloting much more challenging :)
I'm no expert. But if special technique is what you're after, might I suggest a child's swing. Take the swing, and a couple feet of chain, add clips, and lean off the back. Rest your back against the swing, while sitting flat on the deck (arse off).Idk I've only sailed on a boat of this size one time. I think itd be nice

Sailors are the best they are so brave.
Nice boat !
Merci pour le tour du propriétaire !! Bravo pour le travail accompli
Thanks for the tour of your home!
Fine ship sir. Well thought out. Recommend a vhf with GPS and AIS. Eg standard horizon 2200e. Less than £300, and might help you sleep better on passage. Fair winds
Thanks. For the AIS I'm working on a receiver connected to my laptop and displaying AIS targets on Open CPN, will definitely help
Good idea. any ais feed using NMEA0183 sound work fine. Look forward to seeing your solution
Good tour of your boat.
very nice videos. I like the way you are sailing and traveling. Very authentic style. Thx.
Love the boat, I am looking to get into sailing great video
Thank you for taking the time, I have an EDM and will use some of your modifications.
EdM forever :)
Thanks for the boat geeking, great stuff.....
Nice To ear a french guy speaking english by the way. Sail safe
Great tour about the boat, many thanks good impressive. I like it your boat very much.
Great video.. where you learned everything about sailing?
Thanks for great boat tour.
Please tell what is your kayak - model and size?
Stay safe. Look forward to more videos.
Hello my friend, nice to see how your boat has laid out.
Just for comfort I think I would be happier with a 32 foot or so. Hans Christian if I had a choice but your boat does well. Your photography is brilliant. Bon courage mon vieux.
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!! I love the tour!
I very much enjoy your Channel and they way you create your videos .Thanks
You're totally sorted out, given me inspiration thanks!
Very Nice explained.
Mesi!
My creole is almost inexistent now :( but the name of the boat remained :). Erzulie does rings a bell indeed. Good luck in your restoration project!
@@TheSailingFrenchman Don't worry it's contextual. Last time I was in Haiti I was in a panic because I couldn't remember anything. Within 2 days I was chatting away. You are French you have an edge. Great videos!
realy nice boat! cheers
Merci beaucoup !
Genial, a bientôt sur l'eau alors!
Hal where is the listing? I’m curious

Great tour!
Some really neat features.
Thanks for the tour - really enjoyed it :) Take care and be safe!
It's my dream to live and journey in the little boat like yours. Jealous of u!!.
Fantastic boat how I’ve added so much in a small vessel u have a new subscriber and follower great job cheers mate
Damn, man! My GoPro Karma would NEVER start from a huge metal ship because there would be a permanent "compass interference" error showing up. Anybody else have similar experiences? Great videos! You are actually one of the best english speakers among (probably) whole French nation ;)
Haha, thanks,
Regarding the drone, I was indeed getting lots of magnetic interferences, launching and landing were tricky, you have to turn off all sensors, makes the piloting much more challenging :)
The Sailing Frenchman I keep my turned off permanently, as Karma doesn't have any sensors build-in, which btw is its weakest point ;)
Nice boat. Great video.
Where do you poop? And if you go over the side is there a special technique
Most boats have a toilet with sea cocks, a bit more comfortable then a bucket but same principle
@@HARDYSFISHINGADVENTURES We got a smaller version of a normal toilet :P
I'm no expert. But if special technique is what you're after, might I suggest a child's swing. Take the swing, and a couple feet of chain, add clips, and lean off the back. Rest your back against the swing, while sitting flat on the deck (arse off).Idk I've only sailed on a boat of this size one time. I think itd be nice
@@eshollen LOL
You time your rear end hanging over the side with the healing of the boat and of course wind direction
