Good Content. Just a comment /hack on the parking space requirement to register the car in another person's name. When you apply for the parking permit for another car, just tell the police station parking inspection that you sold the other car that was registered to that space. My friend had 7 cars registered to one space. And you can then rent a parking space for all your cars after you register the next one, and the next one. The first space has to be within 2 KM of your registered home address. Pretty funny that the police handle the parking space permits. Police are generally quite kind in Japan and there is no stigma attached to going to the police station. Heck, even people that sell "used cars" as a business have to register their business at the police station. They just earn "revenue" in different methods here.
Nice got my gtr33 from Garage Defend last year. Process was super ez. Brian and Doston are straight up guys. They handled evwrything over at GD. Once i got my broker here my car came staight to my city. Best part i didnt even need a twic card nor pay that crazy charge at the port. All i did was give them my papers they called me in and i inspected the car and drove it right out. Only down side was how rude the staff was at the port.
Heck yeah man! I love the crew at Garage Defend. They’re super knowledgeable and easy to get ahold of. That’s awesome you didn’t end up needing a TWIC! It seems like the port rules are fairly inconsistent. Somebody told me that Port of Houston doesn’t require one either. I asked if I could drive the car out but they don’t allow foot traffic so you have to drive in with a trailer at Savannah. 🤷🏻♂️ What are the specs on your R33 GT-R?

Ended up getting my deposit back and working with a US company as a broker who brought over my TopSecret GT-R. In the end I got a wayyy better car.
Really?? Congrats on the TS GT-R! That’s awesome! Weird you were having communication issues with Doston. He was always super responsive for me. He’d always call or text within a few hours. Given the 16hr time difference that seemed super reasonable.
You’re quite welcome! Hopefully it helps out a bit. The guys at Garage Defend are awesome and super helpful! Best of luck with the import to NZ! What are you looking to pick up?
I can spend $6000. I like small vehicles. I remember seeing a skyline about 10 years ago for $7600. It was an ugly color. Auto. I'm into funcargo or those vitz RS Turbos to Alabama. Daihatsu or Toyota. We might have a listed port in Mobile bay but I can get a trailer. Am I going to have to drive to Florida or Louisiana?
*I'm glad that people have left the Aristos alone! They are still reasonably priced at around 8k-15k to import, although the 2jzgte engine alone goes for around 8k-10k these days. Americans are crazy.*
Heck yeah dude! I’m excited for you! That’s going to be awesome! The import process is a lot easier than what most people would lead you to believe. It is very time consuming though. The key thing is patience. It’s not like buying a car in the US where you pay them and drive off. I wired the money to Japan in August and picked up the car at the port in November.
Super informative video, thank you very much but I have a quick question, did Garage defender was able to facilitate that parking situation part? Or how did you went about it if your car was from GtNet? Thank you again.
Garage Defend took care of the parking thing too. They made the whole process super simple. It just took time to get everything ironed out but they did a great job! 🤘
I’m looking for an ek9 type r or a small nice hatchback like the city or today (Honda) I jus don’t know if I’m searching in the right places have u came across any??? Dope video by the way u got thumbs up from me 👍
Thanks man! Glad you like it! 🍻 I haven’t run across any myself but haven’t been looking specifically for them either. If you’re having difficulty locating one it might be worth putting in a call to Doston so he can keep an eye out at the auctions for you.
I found a Nissan stagea for very affordable price but have ben stuck on what to do next. It's priced at 4k but I'm thinking the import will raise it by double but I've no clue
I’m looking forward to import a 91-99 NSX but in my Country vehicle imports are currently banned so I’m researching till then,Is it possible to find a 91-99 Honda NSX with an Automatic Transmission and without any repair history 7 million Yen? I’m confused because I found an NSX for 11 million yen while I found the same car in another website for 9.1 million yen.The option I’m looking forward to do is head to Japan and look at the dealerships for a decent priced NSX
So how does the payment process work with garage defend ? Is the only option to wire the money for car you’re buying ? Because I’m currently messaging them but they’re helping me source a vehicle on which I’ll have to pay a 10% service fee and pay for 2 years and 5 months storage until the car can become import legal here in the USA.
I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. Are you asking if they would take an overnighted cashiers check or if you’re able to make car payments while the vehicle is in storage??
It’ll cost as much to overnight the the cashiers check to Japan as it would to just wire the money and it would be available faster. If you’ve got questions as to how to finance the car while it’s in Japan, I did a video on that here which should answer most of them: ua-cam.com/video/bgPtlRvibSk/v-deo.html
Great question! I made a video that goes through a line item breakdown of all the costs involved. It’s fairly in depth. Let me know if you have any follow up questions. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/5fCcRnYMtxg/v-deo.html
I'm looking into getting a Honda/Acura integra as my first car the type r seems a bit too expensive so am looking for a type s something more cheap I'm just looking for now I'll be hoping to have the money for one in 2-3 years or so and get it from Japan right here to Mexico since there's almost no íntegras here, could you tell me how much would it be to get the car right here to Mexico?
I have no idea what the import laws are for Mexico. 🤷🏻♂️ You’d need to research that to determine what your back end would be after buying and shipping the car.
So is bpro a pretty trusted website? I’m trying to get an fd and I want to go the cheapest way I can and I’m finding good choices there I just don’t know if it’s like legit.
Reasons I love living in Canada: 1. It’s the friendliest county in the world (if you don’t count the French parts) 2. 15 year import law 3. My Nissan Stagea 4. My Nissan Pulsar GTiR 5. My Nissan Terrano R3mR Diesel 6. My Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo 7. My Nissan Skyline R34 GTR 8. The Mountains 9. Pepperoni and Mushroom Hot Pockets. If you want to do a show on any of them (minus the hot pockets) hit me up, they’re all fun rides! P.S - If Nissan’s aren’t your thing don’t stress- I’ve got a pair of 2001 Honda Preludes… one is Turbocharged and the other is running a Jackson Racing supercharger.

I have a question. My cousin’s wife has family in Japan and I wanted to buy my first overseas JDM legend. Since the market for some post-1996 cars are reasonable at the moment, I wanted to know if it would be cheaper to fly out to Tokyo, purchase a car through the auction, have the car refreshed/fixed where necessary and store it there until the 25 year rule kicks in and have it shipped? Or even if the car is 25 years old already, would it be cheaper and better to go out there and buy the car and arrange shipping out there instead of online? Thanks for the great video btw!
I ALWAYS recommend checking a car out in person if you can. I bought the GTR in the middle of covid last year and they weren’t letting anybody into the country that wasn’t a citizen else I’d have flown out there. As far as export, shipping, and everything else, I’d recommend working with an exporter unless you’re well versed in the export process yourself. It could be cheaper to DIY but if it gets messed up could end up costing you a lot of money in the long run. Great questions! 🍻👍
Hey this video was really helpful. i’m looking to buy an s13 coupe and i’ve seen importers all around where i live but i wanted the whole experience of going to japan and buying it myself. would that be more expensive than an exporter what do you recommend ?
Glad you liked i! 🍻👍 You’re going to need an exporter to facilitate the paperwork if you’re not living in Japan. Some will let you go to auctions with them to inspect cars in person and you can check them out at dealerships as well. Getting your own eyes on it if you can is definitely the best way to go though IMO. That way you can take in everything, ask questions, and don’t have to worry about grainy photos or videos.
I went through Spencer to help facilitate the import process. He took care of all the unloading payments, duty, port usage fees, etc all under one umbrella. He lives in SC and so that’s the port I selected for pickup. There are some that are closer to CO but I know, like, and trust Spencer so it was an easy decision. I’m sure he could knock out the paperwork for you if you’d like to pick your car up at another location.
Usually they’ll reply to an email with a WhatsApp number so you can have a phone conversation. The timing is a little difficult since they’re so far ahead but talking on the phone definitely makes things easier. Shoot me a DM on IG and let’s see if there’s a way I can do to help you out.
So is it better, more affordable to go this route vs going through someone like Top Rank? And what about financing being the car is not even in the country?
Sorry for the delay. I didn’t see your comment come through. It could be more affordable depending on who your exporter is in Japan. Mine worked out to be about $3k cheaper than if I were to buy the same car already state side. As far as financing, the only way I’ve found to finance a car overseas is if you’re active duty military with orders to that country. If you have orders they’ll accept a foreign title. If not, the bank will want the title within 30 days which means you’d need to pay cash up front and finance the car with an auto equity loan after it’s arrived and titled.
You could definitely do that too. The APR will be a good bit higher but it’s definitely an option. I ended up selling one of my Supra’s and rolling in some extra cash in order to swing it.
Maybe I missed it, but what are the possible ways to finance a car from goonet? My bf tried to get a loan from the bank, and they said no because the dealer is out of the country, so i’m on youtube and sites trying to see how to finance :/ are there different ways to go about financing a car in japan?
This will be a bit of a long explanation… Short version: you can’t finance the car in the traditional sense that you’re probably used to. When you finance a car state side the bank will want a title within 30 days of paying for the car. Since it’ll take 60-90 days to export, ship, and import the car they’re not going to do the deal. HOWEVER: If you secure a personal loan (at a much higher interest rate) for the total price of the car you can pay for it, get it here, get it titled, and then get something called an auto equity loan (at a lower rate) to payoff the high rate personal loan. If you do all those steps you have successfully financed and imported a car from another country. Alternatively he could enlist in the Air Force or Marine Corps. Once he gets stationed in Japan a bank will finance a car but he must have PCS orders to Japan.
It’s definitely easier to buy a car that’s already state side. I don’t think anybody would argue that. You’re far more limited on options when you do that though. If you want one in a specific color or trim you could be waiting forever. More importantly, if you’re dropping $70k+ on a car, why settle? Get exactly what you want even if it’s a little more leg work in the short run. The results will be well worth the wait. 🍻🤘
Goonet is like autotrader in the US. Any inspections posted are typically auction sheets from the individual dealers. If you can’t fly out there yourself to inspect the car, I’d recommend paying somebody **that you trust** to inspect the vehicle for you. I’ve seen lots of cars roll through auction that had substantial rust and were still graded 3.5 or 4. 😬 Given the amount of money you’re spending, $400+ is nothing when it comes to spending it right. Personally I’d rather drop $400 on an inspection and NOT buy the car than trust the auction sheet and have an expensive rust bucket. Hopefully that made sense. Feel free to hit me up with any other questions. 🍻👍
Can I get more information on why Japanese doesn't want American to import? I keep googling but getting results of why American cars don't sell well in Japan
You’re going to have to wait until 2024. Just because a certain model was sold in both countries doesn’t mean that emissions and safety standards are the same in both places. Consequently, unless you’re able to prove eligibility for a Show & Display exception you’ll have to wait until it’s exempt under the 25 year law.
Agreed. Lol One of many reasons I don’t live there. That’s not a CA law though, that’s a federal one. The additional stuff you guys have to do out there to be able to smog the car even though its EPA/NHTSA exempt is absurd.
Great question. The best place to find a broken one is either auction or private sale. The only caveat is that you’d then have to load it into a container which gets a little more complicated. I’m sure there are companies that specialize in that kind of stuff if you look around a bit.
Are you asking if you can finance a car that you’re trying to import? If so, the answer is yes but it’s a bit of a round about process. I actually did a video on it already if you want to know how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/bgPtlRvibSk/v-deo.html
I’m looking to get a different style car for import. I’d like to import a Toyota Hilux between the years 1985-1995. I live in California. Does anyone have a particular website to suggest to look for this car and any other details I’d need to know that our different than ones stated in the video
I’d go with Garage Defend personally. My car came from northern Tokyo and they were still able to facilitate the deal without issue. The main thing is using somebody you trust. It’s a good bit of money you’ll be putting in to any car so trust is paramount.
If you work with an exporter you’ll be fine. If you find one at a dealership that will only sell to a Japanese person, you’ll need to go through the same process I did and have an exporter that you trust facilitate the transaction. It’s not a UK vs US thing, some dealerships just don’t want to see the car leave the country at all.
Hi there, I Just saw couple of your videos, and I am curious if I can import a car from India, which is under my name in india to U.S in California at my house in bay area California address???
I wouldn’t use Japan Partner if it were my money to be honest. After watching this guy’s video and a couple others, I’d steer clear: ua-cam.com/video/dvWI0fXX8Co/v-deo.html
@@jermainecotton4406 I talked with him today. He’s actually getting the Evo back in the next few weeks and said he’d be happy to help with importing your car. He’s aware of your timeframe and possible port selection. DM him on IG and he can get you rolling. 🍻
I don’t know anything about Australian import laws. I can certainly answer any questions about finding and purchasing the car though. What is it you need help with?
Where do you live? Most coasts are going to have a port nearby. Houston, Miami, Savannah, NY, LA, Seattle, etc are all port locations. I’m sure there’s one in relatively close proximity to you.
That’s always a tough one. Spencer is a personal friend of mine and I trust that dude 100%. He and Doston have worked together before and he trusts Doston. Because of my relationship with Spencer, it made it really easy to have Garage Defend help with the inspection and export process. If you don’t have anybody that you know personally with a connection to Japan, it’s a bit of a gamble. My suggestion would be to start with someone that has a great reputation, talk with them and see how you like their process. If something feels off, don’t worry about finding someone else. You could also find 2-3 to inspect the same car and see who does a better job. The best inspection gets the remainder of your business.
The process is similar but a lot more strict. In Colombia the car has to be a current factory new production vehicle for permanent importation. The only exceptions are for diplomats, temporary importation, vehicles 35+ years old (imported as vintage), of vehicles 50+ years old (imported as classic). In order to bring in a 35 year old vehicle as vintage, it must be completely stock. Prior to importation you must obtain an import license from the local government and a certificate from the Colombian Automobile club for the specific car to be imported. After those criteria are met it’s just a matter of paying for everything.

My absolute dream car is a nissan s15 so im saving all my money (minus gas and insurance for my z) to be able to import one once they become available
Thank you so much , really want a jdm car so I wanna try garage defender and see if I can buy one and import it to nz
Didn’t those used to be like $6k landed for a nice one? Lol
@@2JZAddict Yeah about 8 years ago.
The 96 Suzuki Alto Works is legal for import. 😁 Very tempting.

Can I buy more than one car 25 years old as a private buyer from the website and I know they have an exporter.. and should I file an ISF form?
Cant wait for the evo 5 :)
Did you order one already or still on the hunt?
@@2JZAddict i just started looking also trying learn everything that entails importing to the U.S
@@2JZAddict I’m more impressed you managed to find a translator and a mule to buy the car for you. How did you manage that?
@@Tox1cAshes Doston facilitated that part of the equation. Can’t recommend those guys enough! They made everything super simple! 🍻

Excuse me sir how would I avoid being scammed into a bad car because 5 years down the line I wanna drop like 50-60k on a Nissan r32gtr.
@@2JZAddict awesome thank you, I already contacted them.

Thanks man! Glad you like it! 🍻 I haven’t run across any myself but haven’t been looking specifically for them either. If you’re having difficulty locating one it might be worth putting in a call to Doston so he can keep an eye out at the auctions for you.
If we buy from auction do we need to pay JCI?
@@2JZAddict yea that’s basically what I meant to ask .

This was great, what it isn't great is that we don't know anything about about Japanese hieroglyphics grammar.
Granted each state is different but how much in total fees + shipping did you have to pay from start to finish?

I have no idea what the import laws are for Mexico. 🤷🏻♂️ You’d need to research that to determine what your back end would be after buying and shipping the car.

Are you able to drive the cars away from the port, or must they be trailered?
Port of Savannah requires that it be trailered off the property. Driving to the car and driving it out isn’t an option.

What about importing a Kei Van?
We are JDM car company, currently exporting JDM cars from Japan to the USA and Canada. Do let us know if You want JDM cars at an affordable price!
@@2JZAddict wow this helped out so much thank you.
Did you find an importer in Colorado or the state you picked your car up at?
I went through Spencer to help facilitate the import process. He took care of all the unloading payments, duty, port usage fees, etc all under one umbrella. He lives in SC and so that’s the port I selected for pickup. There are some that are closer to CO but I know, like, and trust Spencer so it was an easy decision. I’m sure he could knock out the paperwork for you if you’d like to pick your car up at another location.
@@2JZAddict Great! Do you have any contact info or a website for Spencer?
I’ve been trying to buy a s15 Spec R from garage defend but they don’t respond, what’s the best way to contact them ?
Usually they’ll reply to an email with a WhatsApp number so you can have a phone conversation. The timing is a little difficult since they’re so far ahead but talking on the phone definitely makes things easier. Shoot me a DM on IG and let’s see if there’s a way I can do to help you out.
These supras and skylines were a few thousand dollars a few years ago. How come they so expensive
Do you know how and where I can buy and Import a car from Australia??
I don’t have an my export contacts in Australia unfortunately. Are you looking to buy a Ute or something?
@@2JZAddict Yeah I’ve heard of some guys getting an unsecured loan through LightStream and just paying cash to the Japanese dealer.
I can't wait to import my favorite car, the toyota celica gt-four.
Those are awesome!! Have you bought one yet or are you still saving up?
Definitely so much easier to just buy from a importer even though they’re doing all the leg work they’re making so much money!

Do u need to do the whole inspection and port stuff if u get it from goonet?

If the Celica was sold in US and Japan, does a 1999 Celica fall under the 25 year law?
I'm trying to get a 1999 Celica SSII in California.
@@2JZAddict Man California sucks ass. >:(
Agreed. Lol One of many reasons I don’t live there. That’s not a CA law though, that’s a federal one. The additional stuff you guys have to do out there to be able to smog the car even though its EPA/NHTSA exempt is absurd.
where do i go if i want to buy like a broken one and fix it up? or would it be cheaper going through this?
Great question. The best place to find a broken one is either auction or private sale. The only caveat is that you’d then have to load it into a container which gets a little more complicated. I’m sure there are companies that specialize in that kind of stuff if you look around a bit.
Where did you buy ur car from?

I found a car at a dealership in Tokyo, any recommendations for exporters in tokyo?
I’d go with Garage Defend personally. My car came from northern Tokyo and they were still able to facilitate the deal without issue. The main thing is using somebody you trust. It’s a good bit of money you’ll be putting in to any car so trust is paramount.
If i live in UK would they still not want to sell cars and import them? Or is it just in america?
If you work with an exporter you’ll be fine. If you find one at a dealership that will only sell to a Japanese person, you’ll need to go through the same process I did and have an exporter that you trust facilitate the transaction. It’s not a UK vs US thing, some dealerships just don’t want to see the car leave the country at all.
Thanks I’m looking for a r33

You’ll need an SSN, TIN, or EIN in order to record the import duty (tax) at the time of importation.
How do you even find your port for import
Where do you live? Most coasts are going to have a port nearby. Houston, Miami, Savannah, NY, LA, Seattle, etc are all port locations. I’m sure there’s one in relatively close proximity to you.
the 5,900,000 yen is actually $46,000 for anyone wondering.

bro how do you get a trustworthy buyer in Japan and who will inspect it for you
That’s always a tough one.

Can you help me buy a delica?
What specifically do you need help with?
Do you know how to import cars from Japan to colombia?
The process is similar but a lot more strict. In Colombia the car has to be a current factory new production vehicle for permanent importation. The only exceptions are for diplomats, temporary importation, vehicles 35+ years old (imported as vintage), of vehicles 50+ years old (imported as classic). In order to bring in a 35 year old vehicle as vintage, it must be completely stock. Prior to importation you must obtain an import license from the local government and a certificate from the Colombian Automobile club for the specific car to be imported. After those criteria are met it’s just a matter of paying for everything.
How does a US company get business lines of credit in Japan?
No idea. I paid cash for the car after selling one of my Supras.
Someone told me the car doesn’t come with the engine, is that true?
No - That is completely false. The car needs to be in running condition in order to use a RORO.
Thank you bro 🙏
