      Thanks. I had never imported a car before so it was all interesting. Although it was easier as I paid someone to do the paperwork.

    Very interesting & Thankyou for sharing your experience. Great you have exactly the Tanto you wanted, rust free & well looked after. I think I saw a similar car to yours on the A47 in Norfolk afew weeks ago. My import Mazda Eunos ( mx5 mk1 ) imported,10 years prior, to my ownership, has the mph decal speedo & ugly rear fog light, which I have left as it is part of the cars story.

      Yes if it was like that I would also keep too. Going to get the car done with Waxoyl underneath shortly. Thanks as always and see you soon at a show.

    Great video matey👍 would love it if we had kei cars in uk. Really love the Suzuki Alto Works latest model 4wd. But adding it all up not much change of 14k all in. Never mind I can always dream ✌️

      The Suzuki Alto Works looks amazing. I couldn’t have paid £14k either but sometimes see Kei’s for sale on the group for reasonable money. Thanks for watching and your support. 💪

    Although I am not in a position to import a car from Japan at the moment, I can certainly see the appeal, especially when they have many interesting vehicles which are not available in the UK. Very interesting to see the process you went through. I know exactly what you mean about making a contract with a company and handing over lots of cash, and you have no way of knowing if they are legit, or even a bit rubbish!
    Good to see you finally have the car you wanted, and a cracking job on the speedo!

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  Рік тому +1

      Yes really interesting cars and in Japan 40% of cars are Kei. We drove from Derbyshire to Bristol yesterday and noticed some people looking as they passed the car with that “what the hell is that?” I’m really happy with the speedo. Whoever did that really did a fantastic job. Thanks for watching and your continued support.

    Thanks for the video. I too hate boring cookie-cutter cars, so I'm currently just starting the process of importing a little Daihatsu Hijet Cargo kei car/van. It's an awesome little thing as the back seats can fold completely flat into the floor, leaving me enough room to load bicycles, one of my motorbikes, or even kit it out for a bit of car camping. I'm looking to get an nearly-new Hijet Cargo, as I really like the novel boxy shape, however, as it is well under 10 years old, I am wel laware it will need modifications for the IVA. I was really worried about the speedo conversion, but after watching your video, you have helped put my mind at rest. I'm still a long way off, as we're still searching for the right vehicle (I specifically want a 2WD manual, rather than the far more common 4WD CVT automatic). I hope your little Tanto is still running well and you're getting plenty of enjoyment from it. Best regards. Steve.

      @LivetoDriveUK  10 місяців тому +1

      Excellent. I definitely prefer to not be a lemming and follow the rest 😁 a Hijet will be great. I wanted the car to be standard and wasn’t sure how the speedo would look but with the right company it turned out as good as OE. All the best with your future Kei and thanks for watching. Paul.

    Interesting vid. I'd already been speaking to Patrick, but haven't yet gone through with it, so it's good to hear your good review.
    Out of interest, do you know what the actual sale price of just the car was in Japan (without any of the other fees), the price which a Japanese resident would have paid for it?

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks. I don’t and didn’t care as ultimately it’s the final price I thought about. Patrick made very clear what his fees were which was fine.

      @@LivetoDriveUK yeah, that's fair enough. I agree, it's only the end price that matters, it was just out of interest really. Hope you're enjoying the Tanto.

    Did you know uk and Japan has a trade agreement so if your car is made in Japan the duty is around 3%

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  Місяць тому +1

      Yes. ‘Import duty is variable, due to a trade agreement between the UK and Japan. If you’re importing something made in Japan and you can prove it, you’ll benefit from a preferential rate of 5 % import duty. If not, it’ll be 10 %. Import duty is calculated on the total of the FOB and shipping costs.’

      @@LivetoDriveUK yes just gathered. I thought I could defer the vat as I’m vat registered but been informed have to pay this upfront also and then claim back on my vat returns.

    more than 8k for a car that took a year to get on the road is a joke tbh, however you are a collector so that's fine i guess.

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  7 місяців тому +4

      Agreed. Shipping was not in a good place at the time as confirmed by a good friend of mine who has to try and allocate space and delivery schedules.
      I understand that it is now more like 8-12 weeks for a space on the ship, 6 weeks on the water and around 4 weeks for registration after any necessary modifications have been made. So at 22 weeks that would still be close to 6 months.

    • @lutherrhein7697
      @lutherrhein7697 7 місяців тому

      also, i am seeing many import cars on sale as well as on roads, therefore the price of import vehicles is going up fast. I think i will wait for another year or so before i make a move. I just hope the new Labour government does not go full ecomaniac!@@LivetoDriveUK
