I've been watching the auctions in Japan and very few cars are selling / meeting reserve so sellers have to get serious about whether they actually want to sell or if they are just there to cash in on the over-inflated values we've seen the past almost two years. That's why the lot is so full, nothing is moving because reserves are sky high!
That's a thing I learned that made my dream car less depressing. If you look at the reserve prices ect. its pretty depressing, but then I learned about searching the data on cars that recently went across the block. They're not selling for those prices at all! The no reserve ones are selling for around my price range too.
@@coopsnz1 I think you’re half right along with @Tom_K. Prices will surely drop, but I agree partially with you that they will never drop completely back down to pre-covid levels. Fine by me though, as long as prices drop close enough back down to earth to make them worthwhile again.
US as well. Spoon Ctr cluster sold for $1k two years ago due to the pandemic. Can’t find any Honda parts for good prices and most motors that are worth $1500 are going for $4500 just for the short block.

I think it was a popular craze during COVID and now people who were buying into the hype are now calming down. People are also more aware of rust issues and aren't willing to pay high prices for them anymore. Obviously, as you said collector cars will always stay high priced, but I think the extreme hype is over, at least until S15s and R34s become legal in the US. I put your videos on in my shop because you're one of the guys who "get it". So another point of reference for you... Love the video Sam! I've been waiting for an auction video forever lol 😂 But the black startlet you mentioned isn't a starlet it's a Mazda 323 hatch with a B6 or a BP engine in it just letting you know man keep up the great work 🔥

The conversion rate for yen to USD has actually been hovering around 100¥ to $0.75, so when that S2K sold for 31, it actually is closer to $23k-$24k USD, which is just DUMB cheap. It’s a great time for the US buying from Japan right now.
all assets such as houses, stocks etc are all coming down. people are holding onto their money with cost of living going up (fuel, inflation - we have no lettuce in Aus lol, interest rates), so naturally discretionary spending is declining.
