Great video. I would say it is impossible to express the magnitude of this problem. I used a reputable importer here in Canada @jdmconnection to go through the auctions. The dealer/broker prices are absolutly absurd. Literally 30 to 50 percent more than what they are worth. SBI/SBT/GLion/Jpanpartner/TCV and the 3RD Party sellers on Beforward are just mental. Beforwards own actual stock is very reasonable mind you.
In a world full of liars, Its time the smart people start telling the truths they found out and hold to it and help stop people from getting ripped off.
This kind of video and the way you treat your friends is the reason why you are definitely my favorite UA-cam channel. Also way to slide that Ron Burgundy quote in at the end 😂
I was stationed in Japan 2011-2017 and made friends with a couple legit importers and learned a lot about how many scammers there are even at that point. I can only imagine how bad it is now with the JDM hype bubble.
I’m also Australian and have lived in Japan for 15 years. My first 180sx was $1000 and my EK9 was $6000 and I was the second owner. I’ve seen the prices climb to unrealistic prices. Super annoying if you live in Japan and just want a nice car to play with.
My great uncle is in his 80s and we tried finding him a older (late 90’s) acty truck or van to move around his wheelchair and some furniture to make his house more accessible. (He wants an acty because he’s familiar with them and he’s very stubborn) Turns out every single used acty in Osaka/Hyogo gets bought by the exporters. The ones we could find with inspection they want almost ¥600,000 for a 20-30 year old can.
The other issue is once a car IS imported into your country, say the USA, the price skyrockets as well. There are people trying to sell imported 88-91 CRXs for $32k-$40k USD. When importing one, I’ve seen, cost less than $20k USD. Because people are afraid and don’t understand the process of buying and importing a car, they allow themselves to pay an insane “peace of mind” tax. I’ve heard of people paying $20k for a Honda Beat!!! There is a dealership ten minutes down the road from me selling them for $7k.
Great information you need to make this into a series and have guests to also relay info and schemes that has happened to them. Thank you for hard work that you have always put into your channel 🍺🍻🍺🍻👍
These are the times I'm so glad I was able to import my CR-X when it was 15 years old. She's been garage-kept since 2005 (and never winter-driven since I've owned her) and it really feels like there were a lot more honest exporters back then. I received every piece of paperwork, a price breakdown of everything, and it was all above board.
I low key thought he was talking about josh lol I’m glad you confirmed that cuz I’ve been watching kota and josh for a while now and don’t get any bad vibes from them 💯
They mentioned a long time ago they barely make any cash selling the cars. Like 1k-5k in profit. They go through the process of getting the cars in the states and once that is done they keep it until they want to sell it. When they sell it they only ask for a few thousands than what they paid for it. Well that's what they say right. Someone can say something but it can be false info you know. This was a long time ago so who knows how it goes now.
They have licenses. On Kota website you'll be able to find his company name. E_ought had his wifes mother help him get his business set up in Japan. He spoke about it in video before.
As many scammers there are in Japan car import business, there are just as many in the USA. These import cars are over valued. Even if you get a deal, someone made more money. There is a point where the car is and will be overpriced.
A sincere thank you for sharing this information with your listeners. I will share as it is so very important if one considers doing this. You get my gold star of the day!

In 2000 I got my 180SX imported to Australia the purchase price was 3k and all up with shipping and road worthy certificate was 9k and I still have it 23yrs later.
SAMMIT! This video genuinely confirmed so many theories ive had over the past 7 years. Absolutely love and appreciate the transparency! Awesome vid dude. I have recently started research on this to write an article on this subject. But it’s a lot better getting it from a reliable source. Everyone enthusiast needs to watch this
For everyone commenting shots fired as in shots fired towards e_ought or kota I don’t think that’s the case as the bogan 32 is a car he got from e_ought
I'm really happy to see someone talking about this straight on the face, no excuses, easy to understand! If the Exporter charges you the 10% tax, just stay away.
I’m very glad you made this video because the car market is crazy now that even a right Hand drive GS 300 which is a Toyota Astro is going for 30-40 grand crazy
TBH the pick of the bunch already shipped 15 years ago, and what will be shipped is the 3rd rate cars that so far slipped through the net, the enthusiast cars that people have been retained are not gonna move for chunk change. I saw an enthusiast who got scammed by one of these Russian exporters, the guy actually dissauded him from buying actual good listings from the auctions and said this is the best GTR he's seen in years. When it arrived it was an absolute bondo buggy they had concealed major structural rust with and cheaply sprayed over, dude was gutted..
As my family own 2 1989 Mitsubishi Starions in the states it’s interesting how the younger people think the Conquest Chrysler is rare but we have thousands of Conquest’s available but only a few hundred Starions
Between this video and the "japanese gangster" car you're going to end up in some trouble dude haha! Nah good on you for sharing this info man. I've been considering looking for a car over there to bring to South Wales so this has come at the right time for me. Big fan. Keep it up Sam!
@sammit raw Thanks for sharing. Great information. I have a house in Japan (with parking). I only have tourist visa....so no residence card. Can I buy and keep a car in Japan?
Good info, just last June I got misled by beforward , I paid for a 2015 model car and beforward sent a 2014 to me , I. Couldn’t take car from the costom because the tax on a car over 8 yrs is 250%
When I finally am able to buy and export a car out there, your the man to go to Sam. Been following for a long time and appreciate all the information and content you provide. God bless you bro
great content. I love the transparency of Japan's regulations regarding businesses. In order to sell used items as a business you have to register at the Police Station!
Same as the Ford cossies,rs turbo etc in the Uk… massive money nowadays… a black RS500 went to auction the other month and sold for £500.000 ( close to a million Oz)
For those saying that scalping and car trading are the same it's not. Scalping is taking the stock that would otherwise be available to consumers and holding it which is artificially reducing the supply and forcing up prices. Then as Sam said using FOMO to inflate those prices and play on emotions. Car dealers are totally different. They buy cars from the public, do trade-ins. Yes they source cars themselves. The listed price might be higher but there will be a fixed margin in there which you can talk them down to and then everyone feels like they are getting a good deal. Like JP exporters they benefit from moving larger volumes rather than extreme markup and have a going concern as a business rather than flyby scams.
Thanks a lot Sam! 👍😊 There was some information there that I didn't know before and will pay attention to when I want to have a car imported from Japan. Greetings from Germany ✌😁
If your mechanical savvy just buy a usdm clean shell with no rust and import a half clip it’s way cheaper and just do a conversion . You can get a half clip for a pretty decent price
I might be wrong but I saw a video you did with BeForward 2 months ago.... if I may ask how legit are they with checking the quality of their cars? I'm buying 2 Lexus is 2017 and 2013

I'm looking to import a nice Toyota from Japan and some include pictures of the bottom frame, how do I know if these car don't really have rust damages or how can you know if these photos real? I researched and found a legit car from Japan importer and I'm still weary about the pictures.
Thank you I have been looking for a car for two years and several dealerships had what looked like nice cars good price and my sixth sense said don’t I live in Japan for six years in the 70s. Thank you for a great information
Overhere a stock or slightly modified 370z is being sold for at least between 20-25k EURO. Thats imported ones with claiming they have 200.000 km driven on them. Prices are insane right now and as i just got into the car scene i feel like i just missed the boat by a year or two and now a simple r33 costs me 45000 euro...
After years of learning and wrench on cars with my buddy, the one thing which remained constant was always having Taylor Swift song playing in the background while we worked. Just imagine a JDM guru who know everything about Nissan, Toyota, etc and then Taylor comes on he starts sings along. Sam, that comparison you made fits my buddy and he would pay stupid money to see Taylor in Japan.
Amazing video Sam! Perfectly explained all my concerns about the process. I'm looking foeward to importing my dream S15 one day❤ keep up the amazing content🤙
It's also perspective. From my experience in the past year, a R, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 have differences in quality but to the people on the streets here in America (aka people walking up to me and talking to me about my various imports) all say the cars are in better shape than 5 year old cars in the states. My point is that while some will see those numbers and want a higher rating while a lower rating can be just as good. It's all relative.
i would love to see an interview between you and e_ought and even koda if he still exports cars! i feel like that would be a treasure trove of information
Was it whole old car tax and keeping them up to spec for /yearly/ damn inspections? Also MAD props for being honest and legit man! People flipping need to add those extra "dealer" bs prices on once the cars arrive to their own country and are ready for pickup. Everything else is indeed such a bs.
We Aussies are so lucky. My R33 GTR Is a direct import from Japan and it's a dream. Buyer beware and go through a legitimate exporter. Dodgy so Aussie. Like the Taylor Swift comparison 👍 Great content Sam. Sugoi jamata ✌️🤘🇦🇺🇯🇵
Im in Canada and a 60k km 240 is listed at $25,000. This jdm tax is getting ridiculous but I have no choice if I want to achieve my goals to owning one
I'm Superglad that my Subi Legacy arrived here in Germany without any trouble. But still thank you for making the Video. Who knows maybe I gonna want to import another car from Japan at some point.
I have seen many JDM Right-handed imported to Canada here, and I was planning on our Trip to Japan this coming; I would contact an Exporter in Japan and Buy one. My/our Subaru Legacy 1992 was very good until stolen last May 2023! There are many uncertainty in this kind of Transactions. We can be wrong or right? But I have seen a few Individuals bought these Right-Hand Steering. Perhaps, UK Drivers will benefit from the JDM... Cheers,
Thanks Sam in the mid 90s . So friend of mine had a Used car import license in Jamaica importing the vehicle from . We were one of the largest importer doing over 200 vehicle a month. I would love to buy a 90s car for the USA market. But the price are crazy. GREAT VIDEO . I HOPE to buy one without the high price

Rohab Kahn from Rnation... Sams homie
he could get sued for libel or defamation as japan is weak on that front.
@@josho225 defamation to whom exactly? he did not mention anyone
use common sense do your own research or dont import a car. its not rocket science. only ignorant people get screwed buy importers.

were they local or foreign people? I miss being stationed in Japan

i would love to see an interview between you and e_ought and even koda if he still exports cars! i feel like that would be a treasure trove of information
They both do export but I don't think they're registered (I couldn't fid e-ought's Behren's garage but I did find his buddy Jeff's Jitsu Motors).
