Most of the content in the store can be bought for ingame currency too, which you can earn from playing the game and trading. Stuff that costs money is often cosmetics (by actual players in some cases, which should get money for their work) or bundles of stuff you can just earn

Felt like Neo taking the red pill after going from D2 to Warframe. What blows my mind is watching some of the bigger D2 streamers every now and again play the same 3 crucible maps and 6 strikes and be like "the content is so good guys, don't worry Bungie is listening". Meanwhile in Warframe we get Dev shorts and Dev streams on twitch/YT with exclusive drops for watching them play/talk about the state of the game and have a good time with the community. Wish D2 was like this but everything they do is reactionary to negative feedback and ask for more money.

The warframe devs even give out free frames, cosmetics, items, gear, and other plat costing items for free during these streams, just in one tennocon, without paying a dime to DE themselves, you can get 1 cosmetic, 1 frame, and 1 weapon on average, from 1 tennocon, that can be over 6 to 7 hours of farming, and thats not including that theres so many cosmetics that you can get for free, like deluxe skins, colour palettes, armors, and syandanas, by in game trading, no one in their right minds will say a system like D2s monetization is worse than warframez monetization which is optional.

It's not like other games with microtransactions, where you buy $20 worth of in-game currency and it gets you a single item. No, in Warframe, $20 will get you multiple cosmetics, probably something off Trade Chat, and you'll have enough left to maybe grab a Forma pack and finish off dojo construction with the scraps. The fact they give you discounts on top is crazy.

Well, I love Warframe monetization, but... I always think that the discounted price is the real price for low spenders (5-10) and the log in 75% reward forces you into FOMO. "Hey, you have this superdupernice offer that only lasts 48h... Will you miss it out?"
Also the new players that see that doesn't know that you can get that discount (25-75%) every week.
I think that the offer should be a consumable ticket that you could keep and use when you're comfortable enough to spend your own money and that you could only own only one with the same % discount at the same time.

one thing i want to point out thats truely reflective of the 2 games and their develoopers attitude on the monetization front.
In Warframe, every month the Developers host a DevStream, going over every thing their working on and upcoming content and changes, its notable, that in these devstreams atleast 1 Lucky player is drawn in a giveaway to recieve 1000 Platinum. which is $50
and every year they host Tennocon, their big anual event to showcase their grand new content coming, in this event they select 1 Lucky winner to recieve 100,000 Platinum. which can we just stop to recognise is 5 THOUSAND flipping dollars worth in platinum?
like DE are giving away thousands of dollars in free plat to the community a year, and thats not including the free plat in free bundles you get fromperiodic bundles on Xbox.
meanwhile over in Destiny land, Bungie, who has 3 way monetization ($60 Expansion packs, $12 Season Passes every 3 months, and $5 to 20 dollar cosmetic shop) just got bought out by Sony for 3.6 billion dollars. refuses to give away even 100 silver to players (which is litterally $1)

I play warframe on and off since their closed beta and bought founders in the hopes that the game continued because I really liked what I saw from the start, there are some questionable choices they've made more recently but never once have their choices made me feel like they were trying to force my hand in spending money on the game, shits wild, and I still spent quite a decent amount, not because I had to but simply because I want to support the game, yeah I could grind and just trade plat with other people, or I could just go real big when I get those lucky days of 75% off plat coupons (and periodically spend a decent chunk on the highest tier pack of a prime access because I want the accessories and decided its been a bit since I gave them money). Never once have I felt any regret from doing it, even if I do it during times where I stopped playing like within a week, because I know I'll come back and play it again because I'm always hype for future content of the game.
TL;DR Welcome back to warframe, thats whats up

I've played both Warframe and Destiny for 5-6 years. Love both games. I play one when I get fatigued from the other. That said, I will say this: Warframe was able to keep all of its content that it ever made by compressing the data. Bungie could've found a way to do that for Destiny.
As for Warframe, I think their biggest letdown is the PVP mode. The rewards for it are great, especially the stances, but the mode itself has never been fun to play. I think if they upgraded Lunaro, that would move the needle so much in their favor.

Honestly. I think the PVP being shite in Warframe is a blessing in disguise. This made the game not competitive at all, so the community, instead of having a toxic competition, ended up helping each other out so everyone can experience warframe content the best way possible. In effect, this has been the nicest community to ever exist in gaming.

Even without Prime Access, though, a person could spend, say...$50 on platinum across the entire year...and still pay less money than a year worth of Destiny 2 just to get their foot in the door. And if a person is frugal enough, that $50 of platinum may actually last them more than a year. Add to that the long term value of item trading, giving people more reward for their time spent. The free Nightwave battle pass which also gives many rewards from the market like forma and inventory slots to further alleviate needing to spend immediately.
It's absolutely wild how anyone says Warframe has worse monetization. Wild.

No Warframe has a good monetization. You can either farm for weapons or Warframes, or you straight up buy it for real money. It’s Your choice to spend money in Warframe. In Destiny 2 they take content away from you that YOU PAID for!! In Warframe ALL the DLC is FREE! Want a Prime frame go farm relics or trade other prime parts for the prime parts you want with other players. Yes you can buy everything in Warframe for about 10k but you still need to level everything yourself! So people that cry Warframe is pay to win you still need to level the weapons and frames. I have over 1,000 hrs in Warframe and still play it. Sure you can buy mods with plat so that’s “pay to win” lmao sure get all the mods you want but if you don’t have the space on your frame you can’t install the mod so how are you winning? Also also if you suck at modding how are you winning?? Win at doing missions?? There are no leaderboards so no one ever knows how fast you do a mission so who cares if you can do a spy mission in 2min or go to level cap. Who cares if you can buy a mod if you don’t know how to mod a weapon or Warframe ex people putting healing aura on a Warframe 😂😂. DE doesn’t force their market or trading on you it’s there if you want to buy something! Where is the ship to ship combat in Destiny?? Where is the free customization in Destiny?? Why can’t you customize your ship in Destiny?? Why did you spend 60+ dollars on Lightfall?? Or preorder Final Shape just for Bungie to delay it after they got your money?? DE is way better as a developer than Bungie at this point. If you want PVP sure play Destiny 2 if you want PVE with more than a Hunter, Warlock, or Titan(lmao why only 3 classes) and have access to 50+ classes play Warframe! If you like story play Warframe!

I've done the plat math, without discounts it's 15 platinum per USD.
So from there you can make some "fair comparisons" to market prices
A fresh Warframe with slot (1$) and potato ($1.33) at cheapest 10$ and at most cost 20$. By default worse pricing you already have a 2.33$ discount already of included items. I seen games charge 45$ for a hero though they bundle it with a skin and flaire pack usually so it's fair to say it has a 25% discount in most comparable cases.
But here's where the gap widens, this is raw plat in worst package possible ever the zero bonus plat and zero discounts, throw on top that this cost... Is optional. So with best discount? Your looking not just at 75% off but your getting bonus plat on top. Making that 20$ Warframe a measily 2.50$ if your lucky but
For the most part a 4 to 5$ a Warframe if you are an average patient person with zero time to grind and by the half off plat when it pops.
Warframe has a hidden MMO subscription cost of 15$ a month, the prime packs are offered every three months and the unobtainable otherwise accessories are 45$ at the time of offering making it a 15$ a month deal for free goodies and boosters that last that long. Excellent deal for active players.
Major thing about plat, gameplay can net you a gauranteed traded 5 to 15 plat every 5 minutes. Just have to work market a bit more. And if you accidentally amass an inventory like I have, well it's easily possible to sit on an inventory worth thousand so plat. Finally got off my posterior and went to market for a day came back 1k plat richer.
In other words, you can go into this game with zero money, and obtain 50% (the other half of power equation has zero sale outlet of any sort ATM) of the pay to win methods and load out requirements without spending a single dime and buy majority of the non prime cosmetics.

D2 to a new player out the gate and want to try everything you gotta drop the credit card, you log into D2 amd get ads. People compain about D2 damn near every year and yet will still pre-order a DLC at 100$. They barely adveritse their game outside of DLC and gradually adds more things for you to buy
Warframe is free to play completely, you dont have to pay for anything, not story not weapons not characters. Theres a in-game trade system to make and farm premium currency. Primes? Free. Good guns? No grinding for hours for a perfect roll or weeks for an exotic just grind it or trade it. Every prime has its own trailer. We get trailers for an upgraded chracter and two weapons. Free battlepass and in game discounts are a ingame login reward. You dont have to drop a dime on warframe to experience and play the same things as everyone else. As a middle aged dad (of twin toddlers) with a job and a grass-touching hobby (fly fishing) that I love way more than games, my time is even more valuable than my money.
At least with Warframe, when I spend money occasionally I get to skip some grind by trading with other players who unlike me have more time than money. Now I benefit, the people I trade with benefit, and DE benefits and it all happens in a really fair way. I'm not a whale or anything but I do like one of the $80 Prime accesses each year because I get cool shit, it saves me a ton of time, and I don't mind kicking the devs a bit of coin for the otherwise free thing I enjoy.
In Destiny 2 I was constantly sinking in money for reheated content and was still expected to work that game like a part time job. Nevermind the slap in the face of switching to F2P money grubbing model AFTER me and a tons of other loyal fans paid full price for it.
It's a shame too because I loved the shit out of OG Destiny and felt way more respected back then. I didn't have kids back then of course but still I was minmaxxed like crazy for PvP and PvE running one character for like 5 hours per week. I added a second character and played more than 5 hours many weeks but that was because I wanted to have fun not because of fomo that I'd fall behind.

  • @alertArchitect
    @alertArchitect 2 місяці тому

I feel like there are 2 key differences when comparing D2 and Warframe's monetization schemes that have to be mentioned.
The first is that Digital Extremes goes out of their way to avoid predatory practices, such as gambling mechanics. For example, in NoClip's documentary on Warframe, DE Sheldon tells a story about the way you could get new fur patterns and colors for your Kubrows back when they were first added. You would do this by sticking in a little plat to re-randomize the fur pattern, which you could then trade to other players by taking an imprint of your Kubrow while it had that pattern. The idea was to give a way to be like "Hey I got a cool pattern, I'll let my friends make Kubrows that _also_ look cool!" The result was someone pulling that lever 200 times looking for either a pattern they liked or a pattern they could sell for decent plat, like a slot machine addict mindlessly tapping away at their machine hoping for a jackpot. DE's response was to immediately disable the feature and spend a couple of days fully removing it from the game and changing the entire system for how you can change your Kubrow's fur pattern and colors. From what I've heard, though this may be a rumor / hearsay / some form of speculation, they also apparently refunded the people who pulled that lever so much, though if that last part is true it was likely a plat refund and not a real money refund.
The second, and arguably biggest impact on the game as a whole in terms of why Warframe is constantly improving (to the degree that it is one of the _very_ few games I can say is better after returning from a long hiatus), is that the devs are fans of their own game. They actively play Warframe, and not just for their dev streams. It's not _that_ uncommon to see someone with a real DE username hanging around a relay, Maroo's Bazaar, Cetus, Fortuna, etc. or to run into them while just running random public missions - and the only reason it's uncommon at all is because of the game's pretty sizeable player base. It's part of the reason DE Pablo's reworks of various Warframes have been so successful - he actually plays the game, and plays the 'frames he plans to rework, so he gets an actual understanding of why current players enjoy a 'frame, what that 'frame's identity is, and how to improve it in a way that preserves the core of what that 'frame wants to do. You don't really get shit like when the Riot devs reworked Aatrox back in the day (this was before I quit like 3-4-ish years ago or so) and completely deleted any remnant of the old character's identity from the new version's gameplay while just straight-up not having any characters that fill the niche the old character did, meaning anyone who played the game because they liked the old Aatrox just got fucked because the character they liked no longer existed in any meaningful capacity.

Completely agree with you, man. That is simply absurd and whoever thinks D2 has better monetization and/or grind hasn't played either game enough... Coming from someone who has around 2k on each, 3 points that are extremely important that you mentioned but wanted to write them down for people to know are:
    - In Warframe, you CAN trade platinum (silver equivalent - what you get with money only) which is impossible in D2 and I wonder if it's possible at all in any other game.
    - In Warframe, you CAN continue to play any mission you want with any new update (unlike your light level preventing you from accessing missions your were able to do 10hrs ago if a new chapter is out - or season - and suddenly you are weaker because D2's devs want you to be.)
    - In Warframe, you CAN grind / earn / buy EVERY item, warframe, weapon, companion, and even costemics (if they cost plat) with your time. As in: without spending a single dime. As long as it can be either farmed or bought with platinum, you can trade your time for it. Even if it cost Platinum (silver equivalent), since you can trade items for platinum as mentioned in the first point. (PC-Tennogen, and prime accesories aside, *of course*)

Unironically if I could just keep grinding stuff like rep, or wasn't put into a forced wait for certain things in the hopes DE could get me to buy platinum to skip it, I could confidently say Warframe is the better game (outside of the gunplay, D2 has the best gunplay on the market no diff and Warframe's gunplay is kinda mid). But this game has some of the most atrocious hurry-up-and-wait design that I despise and it's littered throughout the entire game. Mastery Rank, weapon and warframe acquisition, reputation earning, Incarnon earning, Archon shard earning, subsuming, it all just sucks. It feels like the game is actively punishing me for wanting to play more of it

I don't begrudge anyone who plays Destiny and has no interest in Waframe, but I'm super glad you tried it and you're enjoying yourself. The storytelling is masterful. After 4000+ hours in warframe alongside my brother, we both have one major complaint. DE has a tendency to promise the whole damn world, but then we get railjack. Now with that said, it has improved but first impressions do matter. The only thing i remember about destiny 2 was the annoying color change items in the cash shop.....and the crap initial campaign that we breezed through in like 10 hours. I'm not going to judge destiny 2 to harshly though simply because I have so few hours in it.

Yea I remember that! I feel like DE doesnt do it on purpose. What they showed on that trailer was cool but impractical. Youd never be able to play railjack solo because of what they showed but it was SO COOL! I think they got themselves hyped with their own ideas and they just blow their own minds out of proportion until it settles in and then they realize what they promised cant be done like that. That joy of wanting to make something so COOL and shared it with us because they were so excited. NOW they dont show anything. Like with todays Devstream with the warframe Dante and warframe 1999. Pablo said he would tease us something then Rebecca said no. Because they learned from their previous excitement issue. Now they dont show things until about a month from release not 2 years lol

They just need to keep it tight and focused, and it's an easy win. Railjack was just too big and clunky for extended play. With any luck, 1999 will be polished and ready to go day one.

The ability to basically trade everything in Warframe is one of its best features, because it allows the players to set the price depending upon the time it took just to obtain it. While some may overprice the amount, it still is a great feature. Also the platinum are being exchange like real money and you can obtain them simply by trading, like getting paid from selling things that other players wants.

There's so much i loved in Destiny, it's beautiful and i loved the gameplay, but like you i just couldn't stand the pay wall and the gate keeping any longer, gotta keep paying if you want to play with your friends in the latest content. And don't get me started on the sun setting. But you know what is a lot of fun? going back and playing some Destiny 1 every once in a while.
Warframe might not have been the most beautiful game in the past but it certainly has it's moments now, and it too is just so much fun. You can earn anything in game, you don't have to spend anything if you don't want to. Now I spent money not because i'm forced to, but because i love the game and i want to. Spent way to much on skins like everyone else.
My best friend is still a hard core Destiny player, i don't see him ever stopping, but we still love hanging out in PSN chat and seeing what each other is doing, showing each other what cool stuff we're up to. We love pointing out the similarities and playing the which developer copied who game with every genre, lol.
All this manufactured gamer rivalry between these two games is just so tiresome, old and dumb, my buddies on both games are just so fed up of hearing it.
People, just go play the game you love, play both if you have the time or play neither, and only pay what you can afford, good luck to you all and have fun.
We're both gonna try and play the hell out of The First Descendant for a while too if it's any good.

to be fair even as a warframe player, warframe does have some pretty bad points of monetization ie inventory space for weapons/warframes especially for early game. the Necramech is an expensive wall to progress to the late game in this game and the grind for that is pretty damn bad. But even at its worst, warframes monetization is better simply because when you spend money for in game currency in warframe youre typically trying to expedite the grind for something AND get something you want AND have plat left over to use for other purposes and you can make platinum back by simply trading blueprints you dont need to someone who does. That said, warframe respects players time better and the game has gotten so much bigger over the years and it has steadily improved and expanded to what it is today.

    • @Meatwad787
      @Meatwad787 2 місяці тому

Adding to that: You can still trade for plat and buy slots and Necramech parts. Or grind the mech parts and wait for new Nightwave for slots.
You can also add slots to your wishlist and someone would actually buy it for you lol.
Then there is selling frames, weapons and companions for credits to free up space. Also subsuming a frame to free up a slot.
You can play at your own pace. While you're waiting for one thing, there's always something else to progress.

The only thing locked behind actual money in warframe are Tennogen and Prime accessories, One is money put towards the community creators creating skins for the game and the other is in direct support of the Developers.
And Bungie directly admitted their predatory tactics like a few years back and no one listened because those rose tinted glasses here bolted by truck sized screws. And they have the gull to say worse monetization, there's also the season pass back in season 11 i got as a gift and the difference between the grind with and without it is night and day.
In warframe you can farm relics with optimized set ups of 1 every minute. In destiny 2, it doesn't even respect your time without other die hards in both end game pvp and pve. Raids take 1-2 hours or more, Strikes can sometimes take half an hour, lost sectors around 20 minutes. All for what, a few guns/exotics.
The longest grind in warframe to my knowledge is Equinox/nidus compared to the longest grind in Destiny 2, it's so miniscule it looks like a scam for how little time Equi/Nidus takes to farm and then the circuit alleviates more of that grind by a TON shortening it from a 5-9 hour grind to less than an hour with decent pubs. And with the addition of Arcane dissolve in Whisper in the Walls, Eidolon arcanes are more accessible for people with less optimal set ups.,

In Destiny, without paying, there is a very limited amount of gear you can get. On top of that there is very little content you can access that isn’t very fun at all, not to mention the payed content isn’t that great either. Free to play you are limited to the core playlist, Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit. You can also play Prophecy, which has really bad awards for a dungeon and is the only one without an exotic (I wonder if it’s because it’s free…). There’s also the open worlds but you gain nothing from doing them at all.
Destiny is no fun without money, and once you pay it’s fun for a couple of hours, but then gets old very fast.
Coming from Destiny to Warframe has been one of my most enjoyable gaming experiences I’ve had in a while. While I have spent money, it felt worth it as it actually helped me get further in the game a bit quicker. Now that I’m further in, I have less reason to spend money. Warframe on top.

I would say the only really difficult farms are mostly the ones so out of the way you have to be actually gunning for it to even be bothered by it. Examples like Equinox/Nidus/Arcanes/Archon shards. Like you can literally get every prime in the game in just a few hours with the help of selling primes you already have to other players and buying the parts you need in the market.

I mean I agree with most of what you’re saying but when you said the moment you find something fun destiny nerfs and ruins it and to that all I have to say is we don’t have the same taste. I got super into warframe a while back and gave myself the objective to make hydroid (before the rework) viable after a while old hydroid became my favourite frame and I pretty much ran him everywhere. He basically became my main and I fell in love with his kit and found the oddest ways to make his puddle work. Then I hear about a rework I was super excited. When if launched I was devastated. They practically deleted hydroid from the game and replaced him with a generic no personality frame. buffing his most boring ability which is just and aoe barrage of corrosive and keeping the tidal wave that now synergies with nothing and replacing his puddle with a glorified offensive copy of hildrin’s shield absorb. So yeah let’s compare that to destiny. One eyed masked pretty much the most op exotic for a time that got nerfed to the ground. used to instantly give you an overshield when you marked people for vengeance now it gives you one that charges over time and the wallhacks got downgraded to a highlight of the target. It still feels like you’re using the same exotic. Or in the auto rifle meta when suros and hard light were the most oppressive things. They got nerfed to the ground but they didn’t turn them into scout rifles did they? Or lets talk about the subclass 2.0 we lost nothing. all supers intact, sun warrior became radiant and they basically just shared elemental buffs to all subclasses adding a number of possible builds to the game. Another rework buff would be precious scars they added an effect while keeping the one it had now you do a burst of restoration around you on weapon kills matching your subclass on top of the res overshield. Or Anarchy that got nerfed to the ground still acts the same still feels the same even tho it doesn’t do as much damage. Destiny might nerf something to the ground or rework something to make it better but they keep their core identity and the players affected in mind while doing it. Warframe doesn’t care about that or at least they didn’t when they did the hydroid rework. basically made a rework of a frame tailored for the metah players that didn’t use him ignoring people that actually loved him. And guess what Nekros is still a better farming frame and Revenant is still a better tank frame and there’s still better frames for ad clear as well. They could’ve just buff the puddle and tentacles making them mod able individually like excalibur’s blade. And that’s basically why I’ll always stick to d2 over warframe because I can know for sure that in destiny 2 exotic weapons or subclasses won’t get straight up deleted from the game to be replaced by generic metah. Like I mainly use 4th horseman in pvp. It started as a meme and grew on me. even with the special nerf that butchered my efficiency I can still make it work I basically get green ammo and treat it as a power up relying mostly on my primary. And before you call me a troll I have over 1500 pvp kills on it. To sum it up sure Destiny has worst monetization and stuff but Warframe’s balancing basically doesn’t care for the core identity of it’s content contrary to Destiny. And to me taking the time to find odd and creative ways to use something just to have it ripped out of the game and deleted unannounced isn’t respectful of my time at all especially after optimizing builds for different strategies. Anyway if all you care about is metah strats you’ll be well served in warframe but don’t get too attached to bottom tier frames like innaros because they’ll probably just delete hime and convert him into a boring movement, aoe, self buff boring metah frame. like the new dragon’s breath is completely different from it’s d1 counterpart and somehow still feels like dragon’s breath. Idk maybe it’s just me ranting at this point if you read all of this I hope you have a wonderful day and I left a like.

I have definitely spent a few hundred dollars on this game spread out over the years but each time I've opened my wallet, it was with a smile and delight. There's not one single thing in this game that is monetized it's just the things that can be bought with money is the devs giving the player an option to save time and effort if that player decides they want it.

  • @Gendor64

There's literally only a small handful of things i find are "poorly" managed in warframe. And even those have options to farm them, they just aren't new player friendly. Inventory slots are an absolute pain in the behind, only being given from nightwave rewards and free item drops like sevagoth during gameawards (give away/plat bought items always come with an inventory slot and a reactor/catalyst). And on that note, orokin reactors and catalysts. Farm duviris story mode for clamps, sorties iirc occasionally can give you a bp for them, and special occasional events like fomorians tend to give a catalyst. Otherwise, it's 20 plat. Which means either trade or spend if you need a substantial amount of them.
Both of those are quite a thorn in my side. Because especially the weapon/warframe limit resulted in me scrapping some good items not knowing any better at the time.

    • @Cornu341

@@Cornu341 You can doesn't necessarily mean you should have to.
New weapons are required to increase mr. You start with 8 slots? Like 4 slots and enough plat for an additional 4 by what i recall. And not all story weapons can be purchased. War and broken war are stalker drops. And orvius' parts are kuva guard drops iirc. Also, it's roughly 3 or more days of just simaris scanning to get one of the weapon bps. Which even with sp stealth scanning is not warframes most enjoyable time sink.
Is it something that'd kill warframe? nah. But it's annoying enough that it does lead to some frustrated sighs. Especially since it makes it harder to try weapons that you thought were bad early on. Since some weapons are real sleeper picks once you understand the game better.
